No sound on my HP Pavillion p6000

Up until recently the sound on my HP Pavillion was fine. Now nothing. I can hook an external speaker to the headphone jack on the frount of the machine and get sound. But not from the rear jacks. How can I be sure its not the monitor with built in speakers or the PC. What is the easiest least costly solution if it is the PC.
Thanks for any help. When responding please remember I am a self taught computer illiterate human.

Hi,
Can you post back with the following.
1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of your g6 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation.
2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

  • Need sound drivers for a Pavillion dv8309us running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit OS

Need sound drivers for a Pavillion dv8309us running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit OS. I'm getting "no audio output device is installed" error after trying various different drivers. Sometimes the driver will install and I'll reboot, but to no avail I end up with the same error and a red X over the speaker in the system tray. I've tried Realtek drivers and Conexant drivers from HP. When I run Windows upgrade advisor it recognizes the problem, but Microsoft doesn't offer a compatible driver. At this point I'm very desperate considering everything else works fine and I don't want to go back too XP Media Center. If there is anything you can do to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I guess this one isn't even 64 bit but it is the one on HP's site:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-46818-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
I never tried to force a driver but I think it can be done.  I seeing that in some threads.

     Hey chrisarnold738,
Try installing the latest audio driver for your system:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=5278397&lang=en&cc=us...
You also mentioned that system restore is not working; if you are trying to go back to Windows 7, you may have to use your HP Recovery Media.

  • The sound on my HP Pavillion DV6-6B57SA has stopped working

The sound was working fine on my laptop up until a couple of weeks ago. It would work through headphones but any time I unplugged the headphones, the sound would not work.
Just recently the laptop start-up sound is audible but any other sound such as music or videos cannot be heard.
Since yesterday, the sound has stopped working completely; through the headphones or otherwise.
I don't know what to do...

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58001-58500/sp58226.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

  • Sound problem in HP Pavillion dv9810us Notebook PC

    Hi :
For last more than 8 months I am having this problem.  First  problem started with skype call.  My laptop lost its speaker and showed a red X mark next to sound icon.  I couldn't find any thing to fix the problem, so I did system recovery to factory setting.  After that my computer downloaded windows update and security updates for vista.  It upgraded my vista service pack 1 to service pack 2.  In middle of this downloading stage several times I lost sound and then again got back it and again lost.  I couldn't find any good solution.  It is so frustrating that I can't view any videos in internet explorer which is upgraded to 9 now .  I tried to watch videos in FIREFOX or Google Chrome.  But no sound after few minutes watching.  Every time I lost sound I tried to fix with microsft system restore or sound hardware restallation or total system recovery to factory setting.  Nothing solve my problem permanantly.  I contact with Microsfot vista forum, but no solutions actually fix my audio problem.   At this moment my sound icon has red X mark .
This morning when I started my laptop it was ok with sound, I watched one news on Yahoo.  But after that the same sound problem.  In the mean time my computer downloaded vista updates automatically and installed it.  When computer restarted  my sound icon got red X mark.  I don't understand why with some windows updates take my sound off.  If I don't want to install those updates, still the sound went off when I watch videos on yahoo or Youtube.  It says Yahoo is not responding, sometimes it says internet explorer is not responding.  I followed all kind of solution that I got from microsft vista forum but nothing worked out.  I don't know how I can fix this problem.
    This question was solved.

Quick and easy fix is to buy a cheap USB sound card (it resembles a flash drive).  Just do a google search and you should find one for $2 to $3.
I had the same problem where my sound disappeared and would intermittently work when I rebooted until finally it quit and rebooting wouldn't help.  It seemed to have happened after a windows update AND after having errors with the QuickTouch On Screen Display. Upon research, I discovered many people had the exact same problem with this model.
I used Restore Manager to restore the drivers for the QTOSD and for the sound card and although I stopped getting errors for the QTOSD, it did not fix the sound.  My quick and easy resolution to my sound problem was to purchase a USB sound card online for $2.49 at Overstock dot com.  I also bought one from a local computer store, MicroCenter, that I liked better (because it had a long cord) for $10.  My sound works perfect now; HOWEVER, I just realized tonight that I NO LONGER HAVE A DIAL UP MODEM EITHER.       You should check to see if yours is still visible in Device Manager or in your dial up connections if you have one.  I suspect the problems I had also killed my modem beyond detection because it's also a Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP (the sound card driver is also Conexant HD).  The Restore Manager won't reinstall the drivers because it doesn't see the device.  It's too expensive to repair the motherboard and I don't have to have the dial up modem so for now I will just enjoy sound and my laptop for as long as it continues to live.
Again, just buy a cheap USB sound card (it looks similar to a flash drive) for a quick and easy fix.  I hope this helps.  Good luck.  I hope you don't have other issues resulting from this as I did..

  • Sound not working on Pavillion g6

Hey, so the audio on my laptop is completely down. The video is fine, there just isn't any sound. The laptop is only about a year old.
I have checked the volume controls, everything is turned on and as it should be except for the forementioned problem. Troubleshooting hasn't given me any results, and the laptop is telling me there are no problems with the speakers.
Really stuck here, any help or guidance would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Pavillion P6000, model#P6510f Hangs at start-up

When I start up, it loads to the blue HP screen where I have options for Diagnostics, Boot Menu, Recovery, etc. with the F keys, then it hangs no matter what F key I press. I removed the battery inside, and put it back in to clear the cache. When i restarted it, i was able to get past that screen and use the F keys. The diagnostics said my processor, memory and hard drive were good.
I then tried to boot from the recovery disc in the dvd drive, and Windows started to load files. That is where it hangs again. I now have a black screen with a bar across the bottom and it shows as windows loads files, but then it stalls and that's where it sits. (it does exactly the same thing if I boot from the hard drive.)
ANY suggestions would be appreciated. It is 10 days past the 1 year warranty so I have to pay for extended warranty $99, just to find out if it is software, hardware, or even fixable for that matter. Thanks in advance if anyone can help out.

  • Pavillion G

Having problem with the sound system of HP Pavillion g series Corei3  any help

    Hi philm2014,
It would be easier to provide more specific answers to your questions if we knew which specific model PC's you were talking about.  If you don't know the specfic model PC's that you have, check out Finding Your HP Product Model Number to see how to find out what the models actually are.
"Is it possible to transfer the hard drive from the Pavillion to the Presario?"
Well, like many questions in life, the answer is maybe.  It is likely that you would be able to physically install the Hard Drive (HD) from the Pavilion into the Presario (though I can't say for sure since I don't know which specific models you are using).  However, the Operating System (OS) installed on the Pavilion HD is licensed and tied to the Pavilion PC, and will probably start to complain about being installed in the Presario relatively soon, assuming it even boots up (there will almost certainly be driver incompatibilities and other issues).
What I would probably recommend is to first do a full recovery of the Presario, that should take care of the virus and get the computer ready to use, just like it was when it came from the factory.  See Using System Recovery, Factory Reset and Minimized Image Recovery Options for instructions on performing a recovery.  To get access to the data on the Pavilion HD, I would remove it and install it in an external USB HD enclosure (you should be able to pick one up for $20-$30), then you can plug that drive into a USB port on the Presario to get access to any data on the Pavilion HD.
    Good Luck!

  • HP pavillion Error Code: BIOHD-8

I have an HP pavillion p6000 desktop with windows 7 with an AMD Athlon II x4 635 processor. I recently downloaded C cleaner to clear up some space, and may have deleted something important. I went to reboot at a point, and my computer would get to the loading screen for windows, an then just reboot over and over. Running the startup repair did nothing, sat there for hours and hours. I accessed diagnostic tools in start up - it scanned my CPU and memory and they passed but the hardrive failed with these details :
    Error Code: BIOHD-8
Error: A SMART test failed on the drive.
How can I resolve this issue?

    Hi,
That's not a good news, the HDD is having big problem. Please do a HDD self test again:
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Keep tapping the F10 key when the HP logo appears. This will take you to Bios Setup Utility.
    3. Select the Diagnostic tab.
    4. Select the "hard drive self test" option and press enter to perform the test.
Note: This test may take up to 40 minutes or more.
Pass - The hard drive is not damaged.
Fail - the hard drive is damaged and may need to be replaced.

  • Why does the HP screen remain on so long when I boot up my computer? (It started this recently.)

When I first bought my HP Pavillion P6000 Series computer (Model No. 6680t), running Windows 7 64-bit, it booted up quickly. Recently, after downloading HP updates, the HP screen remains on for several minutes before Windows boots up. My questions: What is the computer doing while the HP screen is on, and How can I get around this delayed boot-up?

    Hello,
I would like to strongly recommend that you update your version of Flash Player to our currently released version (17.0.0.169) and enable auto updates.  The version you are using is insecure and opening your computer (and all of your data) to being easily exploited by bad guys.
As for the error you are receiving, this is most likely a restriction from the website.  Each developer is able to specify what the required minimum version of Flash and require their users to have at least that version installed.  The detection that is occuring and the message that you are seeing on the website isn't part of Flash Player, but instead part of the website's code.
If you go to this page and click the "Check Now" button, what is displayed (OS, browser and version number)?  Do you see the "tree" animation playing below?

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
