No Sound on my HP Sleekbook

Hi everyone,
I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b002ev with Windows 8.1. I experience the following problem. Sometimes I have audio and sometimes I don't, without a particular pattern. I may watch a video with no problem, but on the next video the sound will be off. I have tried everything. Uninstalling the IDT codec and re-installing it and un-checking the exclusive mode. The same thing happens even after installing the latest IDT Codec (6.10.6425.0). When audio is off, I'm trying to test the speakers and the message that this device is being used by another application, is appearing. I don't know what to do. Please help me.
Kind Regards,
John

  • Sound on touchsmart 14 sleekbook gone

The sound just all of a sudden went out on my son's touchsmart 14 sleekbook. The built in speakers and headphone jack are not working. We just bought this a month and a half ago. I have seen on the forum where others have gotten theirs to work again but I did not know if I should use the solustion if it were a different model.
    Thanks

    Hey Ashperry2288,
Try to uninstall the driver manually then force Windows to reinstall it. Follow the steps below to do that.
Step 1: Open Device Manager and open Sound, video and game controller section.
Step 2: Right click on your audio driver and select Uninstall.
Step 3: Restart the computer. Windows will then force in the driver on startup.
The last troubleshooting step is to try creating a new user account to see if the issue is only affecting the one account. This can happen is something has been corrupted in the one user profile. This HP support document Managing User Accounts and Logins look under the section Creating a new account in Windows 8.

  • HP Pavillion TouchSmart 14 Sleekbook - No Sound

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14 Sleekbook.  I am having an issue with the sound not working. You can touch the buttons to turn the speakers up and down and the volume icon comes up but there is no sound. I ran the test on the speakers and it says can't test, there is another program using the speakers but there isn't. My operating system is Windows 8 64 bit.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

I saw your post regarding the problems with the sound and I will be happy to help. This third-party link will show you how to make sure that exclusive control is turned off. Now it is for Windows 7 but the most of the steps on the same. To get to Sound you will need to search for Control Panel on main tile page and once you are in Sound the steps are the same. You can also try this HP document No Sound from Speakers which includes how to use the built-in Windows troubleshooter. If none of that works please let me know how it went and post your product number.

    Hi brokerbizwash,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are using two monitors, but not getting any audio on either one when connected to your HP Envy m6 Sleekbook.  I will try my best to help you with this issue. Although you have two monitors the audio should be working from your Sleekbook. Has the audio been working and now has stopped.
Here is a document for No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8) that explains how to use the Troubleshooting tool to check your audio.
I hope this helps, please let me know how it goes.

  • Audio sounds different since 8.1 update

My concern is with a HP Envy Touchsmart m6-k015dx Sleekbook. I don't use this laptop for too much because I mainly do light schoolwork on this and leave most of my other tasks to my more powerful notebooks. I first noticed something different since i left this at a friends house and his little bro managed to update this to windows 8.1. Luckily, none of my work was affected but i immiediatly noticed a difference in sound( i am very "attuned" to sounds i guess) and it just did'nt sound the same. I checked the settings and equalizers and everything was set exactly how i had it. I know the built in speakers are already bad but when i hook it up to speakers, it also sounds different and my friend agrees with me. When i check for driver updates, there are none. And recently(like 2 days ago) ill hook my speakers up and the song will play wierdly and start stuttering whenever heavy bass starts playing. I hooked my speakers up to my Envy 15 and Razor and i do not encounter this problem. Im wondering if it's just a driver needing an update or if my audio card is shot somehow. Pls. tell me i can fix this, i mean it's not that big a deal but i hate when things dont work!

  • Sound not playing via HDMI.

I have a HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k074ca Sleekbook running Windows 8.1. When I connect it to my TV, the picture works fine, but the audio will not play on the TV. I have gone into playback devices but there is no option for playing through the TV. I have checked "Show Disabled Devices" but nothing shows up. I have tried this with different HDMI cables and TV's, so I know the problem is with the computer.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

    Hi there @mcbronson
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
If the HDMI audio does not appear as a playback device, you should try out this page:
High Definition Media Interface (HDMI) Icon Disappears from the Sound Properties in the Control Pane...
Troubleshooting HDMI Display and Sound Issues
Another possibility is that the driver needs to be updated or refreshed, and possibly the BIOS as well. You can find the most current HP customized drivers here:

  • No audio HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 14

My HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 14  has no audio.

    Solution:
In the device manager locate the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC under sound, game and video controller.
    Right click and select uninstall.
Restart your computer and open up the device manager again.
In the same spot under sound, game and video controller where the IDT CODEC used to be listed there will be something else listed.
Right click on that and select "scan for hardware changes" this will reinstall the IDT CODEC but I believe it is the updated driver which is actually compatible.
It has been working for me so far, but I will keep you updated if it fails again. For now  I would try that!! good luck

  • HP Pavillion 14 Touchsmart Sleekbook smoking

Hi I just recently bought a HP pavillion 14 Touchsmart sleekbook and for some reason it started smoking really bad near the on button. it started melting the plastic around it so  I immediately shut it off. I tried to restart it again but as soo as i turned it on a lot of smoke came out from the on button! How can I fix this?
    thank you

    Sparkless, welcome to the forum.
Please stop using the computer immediately.  It sounds like there may be a short or at least a component that is overheating.  This could cause it to fail completely.  You should contact the dealer where you bought it for help.

  • Headphones plugged in, but sound is coming out from both headphones and speakers

My laptop has had this problem for quite some time now, it first materialized when I updated to Windows 8.1. I had recently upgraded to Windows 10, and the problem fixed itself. But when I used the laptop the next day, it reverted back to playing from both headphones and speakers, so it's not really a problem with the hardware. I've also restored the laptop multiple times (using restore point), and the problem gets fixed for a day, then comes back the next day. I've tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, but no luck.
Laptop does not recognize the headphones even when they're plugged in.
    Any other solutions?

    Hi @Alpha_ ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 14-b017c  Sleekbook and not playing sound correctly. Here is a document on troubleshooting sound.
Here is another step to try.
    1. Right click speaker icon (right hand corner)
    2. Select Playback devices
    3. Right click Speakers IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio is your default.
    4. Enable it and set as Default
    5. Click Apply/Ok
Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues as headphones or speakers.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
Hope this helps with the sound.
    Thanks.

  • My HP Sleekbook stereo volume only works intermittently

I never had any issues.  Last week I had a standard update for Windows 8 and I also plugged in earbuds to keep noise down where I was as while using my laptop.
Since then it keeps turning on and off.  I ran all of the device trouble shooting test in the Control Panel and I checked the the IDT sound device was enabled.  It says the driver is fine.
When I run the trouble shoot test for the Hardware it actually turns the stereo volume back on.  The F11  does not have the orange light either when I press it when the volume stops working.
When I click on the icon for the speaker and go to mixer it shows volume control for device or HP speakers,  applications or system sounds, and HP Connector Remote user.  I also Noticed when I was listening to audio via the internet it would display that as well so I could adjust the volume.
I have the HP TS Sleekbook 4
    Serial Number CND3122588
    Product Number D1A99UA#ABA

As a follow up I also noticed that I constantly get the message that the device is in use when I run the speaker set up configuration test.
    Thanks

  • Sound from both Speakers and headphones at the same time

    I have a Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b003ee
recently i have a very annoying problem anytime i plug in a headphone on the sound comes from both the laptop speakers and the headphones
    I tried the following
1- Changed the driver tried both versions on the HP support
2- changed the headphones tried 3 of them and the same problem
3- tried the Microsoft HD Audio driver (no sound could comeout from the headphones)
4- tried disabling the communication device from the control panel while the speakers is on and vise versa
    5- A system restore
still the same problem and i think it maybe an malfunction from the hardware or the headphones jack port on the laptop but how does the sound still come out from the headphones ?
I thought of buying a USB headphones but the laptop is no more than 3 months old so i think i still on warranty and such if it is a hardware problem , I am currently in Egypt bought the laptop from Egypt also
