No sound on playback--conflict in 10.5 between Protools and GB?

I can't get any sound on GB playback. I installed 10.5.1 last week and GB '08. I have Allegro 2005 installed and ProTool LE 7.0 with and M Box. The Allegro (Finale) program seem to work fine. In contrast, the ProTools and its hardware the MBox do not work because they is not supported yet in 10.5.
When I first installed 10.5, the Garage Band icon would bounce in the dock but it would not load. On the advice of another forum I removed DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin from HD/Library/Audio/Midi Devices--after this removal to a folder on the Desktop the Garage Band icon stopped jumping and I could load the GB application. Next, I had problems with getting Garage Band to record via a microphone so I got a USB Cable Microphone connector (from Lightsnake) and now I can record in GB. Unfortunately, I cannot hear any playback from GB. I cannot hear anything I have recorded nor can I listen to the prerecorded sample tracks which come with GB (such as the track "Daydream")
I know that I can record to GB because I can see the audio wave as I speak into the microphone. I have already set my Sound Input and Output devices in the Preferences--the Output is set to "Headphones" as the "Built-in Audio" ( I know that the Output works because I can listen to music in iTunes through my Headphones). I have set Input to "Unknown USB audio Device" and the type of Input device to "USB". Even though the device is called "Unknown" the computer does recognize it. I know that this setting works because I can see the Input level on the Sound/Input panel move when I speak into the microphone which is connected through the Lightsnake USB connector--also the green light at the base of the Lightsnake connector pulsates on-and-off showing that it is working. I have already tried these Input and Output setting and the Lightsnake connected to the Microphone on another computer with GB band and everything works. The only differnece between these computer is (I think) the ProTools software (which of course is called Digidesign).
I want to use the GB because my Mbox is now inoperable because of the lack of drivers in 10.5. Also I think that Garage Band will do all I need to do which is to record duets of Spanish and Portuguese (fado) guitars.
Is there anyone out there with some suggestions.

I found the solution.
Of course, it is the simple type of solution which I had overlooked. Here it is:
although I had set my output and input Preferences-- I had only done so for the whole computer system; what I had failed to do was to set the input and output in the GarageBand Preferences.
When I set the output to headphones (builtin audio) my problem was solved right away.

Playback of clips only plays between 4 and 12 frames

Hi all,
I am fairly new to Premiere, have used After Effects CS4 to produce some clips, but need something that handles editing better, and I thought I would give Premiere CS4 a try.
Unfortunately, I can't get Source or Sequence preview working. I click the play button and the video plays for about 1/2 to 1/4 or a second (between 4 and 16 frames) and then stops, returning to the place where I hit play. Almost like I had selected an in and out of 14 frames and hit "play in to out".
The duration of the playback is random, but never more than a full second.
The computer I am on is:

I have done the following to try and resolve:
* Tried different source files (mp4, mov)
* Tried rendering a video in After Effects CS4 as MOV H264 and importing
* Tried putting still frames on the time line and playing those (no effects, no transitions)
* Tried playing no video, just music
* Ensure that "clear all markers" is done on the source and preview monitors
* Ensure loop is not playing
* Force in and out markers to a 5 second clip and press play
* Full deinstall and reinstall of all adobe products (I had some CS3 left overs that I cleaned out)
* Deleted all adobe application preferences folders before reinstall
* Deleted plugin cache
* Created new projects and tried all the above.
I have tried shutting down every other program before running Premiere, it is definitely not a resources problem, there is 3Gb of RAM free and CPUs sitting at 5% when I try this.
I am looking at buying Premiere, but if I can't get playback to work it's a bit of a waste
Anyway, any help or pointers would be appreciated!

Thanks everyone for the long thread and lots of comments, unfortunately I have tried them all.
I even purchased a full copy of Premiere Pro (as part of a Masters collection set) and this still has not fixed the problem.
The screen recording of my problem is exactly the same as the one linked to here: Screen Recording 2 720p.mov, and I am also going to open a support ticket with Adobe.
Another point is that it even does not work on a tiny video that I used (320 x 240px) Still same problems.
This is very frustrating.
It should be noted that After Effects and Encore both play videos fine in a similar situation, it is just Premiere that is bombing out.
See the first post for my configuration, it is still the same, except now I own a full copy of Premiere Pro as part of CS4 Masters collection.
Any further ideas?

[MRS] Conflict in Infotype 0001 between A and S object type

Hi,
We use SAP MRS on top of our HR box. (sorry, I am not a SAP MRS expert so bear with me please....)
As we activated PA-PD integration, whenever a Work Center (otype A) is assigned to an employee (otype P), it updates the Infotype 0001 accordingly (PLANS and OTYPE field) while also inserting a new entry into T528B and T528T tables.
This is consistent with what the RHINTE30 program does (look at the $plste [S] and Work Center [A]):
But, the employee is also assigned to a position (otype S)! It makes much more sense to have Position filled in the Infotype 0001 rather than Work Center!!
Thus, our first approach would be to deactivate PA-PD integration for Work Center (otype A) and only leave it active for Position (otype S).

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
If you are using a sound system/receiver, make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

IMovie '11: No sound on playback but volume on scrubbing

The subject says it all. I have iMovie '11, I get no sound on playback for audio from any source however I can hear sound if I scrub through the video. If I export the movie I get sound there too.
I'm running 10.7.x on an iMac.

I just found this post and I tried it, and it worked for me. I've been searching for 2 days for a solution to this problem, so out of kindness I am reposting this answer to questions that still are unsolved.
"I FIGURED IT OUT!!! All you have to do is create an event. Go to File and click "New Event". Label it and drag whatever clips you want to preview. They all seem to work as long as they are in separate events."
So create a new event (not project, event). Highlight whatever clips you want to play with and drag them into that new event. Then go back to your project and look for clips from that event, not all iPhoto videos, just that event. You will hear them, and can now continue on.

Sound during import, but no clip capture or sound on playback,

There is sound in iMovie 5 from computer when importing video from camera, BUT no clips on shelf and no sound in playback. No wave in extracted audio. Video playback OK, but pale. Any ideas?

Sorry if I came off a bit testy. I use the Apple TV daily in my work environment for background noise and the issues totally derailed my workflow this morning.
So, I tried adjusting audio settings for both Dolby Digital and Audio Out. No luck.
Last resort time. Hardwired (USB cable) to my laptop and restored via iTunes. Success, audio fuctional across all apps. Not the best of solutions because of the time required to restore accounts for the various 3rd party apps on the Apple TV but it worked.
Guess I will never know what caused the 'no audio" issue though I suspect a bad/failed auto update. As convenient as that new feature is, it doesn't help when things go wrong.
A final note, beta software is supposed to be buggy, I undertstand. Production stuff isn't. I've been a loyal Apple user for 20+ years now because of their quality control. I've used competing products too and felt very annoyed at the lack of QC (looking at you Google TV). I would love to see quicker addressing of bugs on the Apple TV OS because a bad experience is what drives less-technical users away. It is a real game changer device if Apple were to even attempt to give it the level of support that other products get. Anyways, that's my soapbox moment.

Clicking sound on playback so annoying on most clips that I mute sound which is not the way I want my video to play. When I contacted Canon teck support they replaced but replacement has same problem. Either a terrible coincidence or something I'm doing wong. Please advise.

Try setting the camcorder on a tripod or a flat stable surface, then turn the Image Stabilizer off in the menu under [Other Settings] > > [Image Stabilizer].
When you record new video after doing both things above, do you still hear the clicking noise?

Cracking sound on playback........iTunes appears on desktop constantly

I have spent 3 days transfering part of my cd collection 16.45GB - 4121 songs, to iTunes 6.0 and get a cracking sound on playback and iTunes appears on desktop and stop/play does NOT work anymore......

Sound on playback of iTunes music either on iTunes or Sonos stops.

Have had this problem for a while on different platforms but seems worse now.
Had XP on laptop and library on time capsule. The sound on playback of iTunes songs would quite, but iTunes still acted like it was playing. Sound would restart after a few songs went by or if you restarted the song.
Went to iMac partially because of this issue and now still have the problem. Have iTunes library loaded locally on the iMac. So then thought that it was an Airport issue. So I went with Sonos system and the problem persists. I see similar posts all over the web, but don't see solutions
I've been sold on the fact that Apple products just work, but that has definitely NOT been my experience with iTunes. Not even close.
Hope someone can help.

Black screen and no sound on playback

For some reason my whole screen goes black when I am trying to use fce hd 3.. That was just recently. Before that I couldn't get any sound on playback and none of the solutions offered for similiar problems has worked. The files were imported from imovie.

First trash your preferences and see if that fixes it.

Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI. Sample rate 42804 recognized. Check conflict between Garageband and external device.

Sometimes, while playing back my software instrument songs, I get an intermittent pop-up error message, saying "Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI. Sample rate 42804 recognized. Check conflict between Garageband and external device."
(Sometimes the five digit number is different, but remains a five-digit number beginning with "4".)
Simultaneously, the song stops until I press the "Okay" button in the pop-up window.
When I continue to play the song, the sound is jerky and clipped, and the playhead doesn't keep up with the song, and then suddenly jumps to the part of the song currently being played.
There's also a sound of static.
The issue seems to occur whether or not I have my MIDI controller turned on and plugged into my desktop Imac.

No sound from speaker port with X-fi, but headphones and line out are f

After going through a lot of driver updating yesterday, I encountered several bad drivers and had to do a system restore a few times. However, after I did that my Sound Blaster X-fi card stopped putting sound out through the speakers. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, updating the driver, reconnecting everything, running diagnostics, and looking at the system settings, but nothing works. Oddly enough, when it's either disabled or not used as my default playback device (apparently I also have a Realtek AC97), the speakers will play, but when I try using X-fi it doesn't. The odd thing is that the AC97 was one of the corrupt drivers (which I removed and returned to its original driver, don't know what the date was), but the X-fi didn't have any problems at all, but now it seems glitchy whenever I try to do anything with it, including trying to uninstall the drivers and looking it up in the System Information console. The Device Manager says I have the most recent driver for the X-fi right now, but even if I roll it back it still doesn't work. Can somebody please tell me what I should do, because this seems like a software issue to me. OS: Microsoft Windows XP Edition (Service Pack 2)System Model: Dell DXG05

EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM HERE!
I havent got another motherboard to test my x-fi xtreme music on, but it's a very frustrating problem, if i boot up from cold the soundcard is either not recognised or is recognised but there's no sound output.
My motherboard is ASUS P5E3 Pro,
Memory: 8GB OCZ DDR3 600
Cpu: x9650 extreme @ stock 3.0GHz
Psu: Coolermaster 850w modular
Gfx: HD 5770 (will be changing this to a HD4890 soon as it's rubbish)
Ive tried all sorts of combinations to try and get this soundcard working properly, stick of ram, etc... NOTHING WORKS AND IM ANNOYED!
Ive played about with just about every bios setting i can find (theres a lot on this board) and still no luck, i've got the latest bios flashed and everything is upto date, as a musician this problem is very irritating, having to reboot the computer about 3 times to get the sound working! even then theres problems with sound drop-outs.
Makes no difference if i use windowsXP or windows7 the problem still remains, i might ask asus to make a bios update for this problem because im not sure if creative have the answers.

I had ordered a Dell PC with Sound Blaster Li've! I double checked and made sure I have the correct Sound Blaster which I do. I have uninstalled and reinstalled sound blaster li've! and it still does not let me update my driver. I took the CD out put it back then tried updating the driver and still it says no Sound Blaster Li've found.

Dell .... try if you can DL Dell 'made' drivers from Dell Support.
