No sound on some imported files

I placed all my music files in one folder on my computer and imported them into Itunes. One particular albumn, Coldplay Live 2003, has SOME files that play and SOME that act as if they are being read, but there is no sound. I am assuming all the files on the albumn have the same file format, so why do some files not have sound?
TIA

I found a way to convert an AVI file which I made from a small digicam, WITH the audio. Its a bit complicated but it worked. Downlload "ffmpegX". Download and install the necesssary components for it. Open the AVI. Set the video settings to "MPEG4(MOV). Set the audio settings to "AAC(MOV,MP4,3GP". Convert. Hope this helps

Im interested to upgrade my Mac to  OS X Mountain Lion.
If I do so, will OS X Mountain replace my deleted files?
At the moment I'm running Mac OS x 10.6.8

Yes, if it is something that was installed as part of OSX to start with.  If you're missing Onyx, well that isn't part of Apple's software and you'll have to get it from the source.
Depending upon the significance of the application there are ways do a custom installation of software rather than the whole operating system.  I use a much older operating system version so I cannot be very reliable on the specifics.

  • No sound when playing imported files...

Hey all. Super noob with garage band, but searched around and couldnt find the answers.
After opening the audio files, and dragging in a song, we hit "PLAY" button and can see the track progressing, but hear no sound. What are we doing wrong?
    Thanks.

No waverform that I can see, if you mean some visual measure of sound. I do not think the track is muted, the volume is turned up both on the track bar as well as the main time measure bar. As far as output, just fooling around I opened up Preferences and for audio output it had identical options, one on top of the other. They were both titled Built-in Output, so I switched to to other, and no luck.
If I select the Garage Band samples, they will play though.

  • Lightroom 3 - some imported files corrupted

I recently discovered a strange problem. Every once in a while I find files imported by lightroom from my CF card are getting corrupted. Maybe corruption isn't the right word because the files are still readable, but they aren't the same as the file on the CF card. See the example screenshot below of a RAW file that shows this problem.
When I discovered this file in lightroom I went back to the CF card and copied the same file to my hard drive and imported it into lightroom and there was nothing wrong with it. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me and it is something I have only noticed within the last couple of weeks. I haven't done any updates to lightroom recently. I'm using lightroom 3.2.
To make matters even worse I just discovered today that the lightroom import is also corrupting video files only with video files it is not immediately obvious until you play them from start to finish and discover a split second smearing or glitch during playback. Just like the RAW files the damaged video files were fixed by simply copying them from the CF card and overwriting those imported by lightroom.
I compared sizes of the corrupted RAW file and good RAW file and the corrupted file was about 90 kilobytes smaller. With video files that was not the case. They were identical in size.
Is anyone else having this issue? Logically I don't see how lightroom would be causing this problem as I suspect it is only using operating system file copy functions to perform this operation, but with the corrupt versus good RAW file sizes differing it certainly points to something not being handled the same way when imported by lightroom.
Some additional details regarding my setup.

    Hi,
I have discovered the same or a least a similar problem on my PC. LR3.3 says in my translated words " Photo aapears to be corruped" (Das Bild ist anscheinend beschädigt).
When searched through the Win7 foren there seem to be more people having that problem - but very little idea of a solution.
On ma PV I worked with the built-in card reader when expirienced the problem first. A short period later the system did not accept 16 GB cards. I used  an external reader and everything works fine. But the problem with the corrupted files came (back) infrequently. Now I have to restart my PC before I can read CF cards and import them to LR3. Very strange.
Is there anybody haveing a glue what happens?
    I would appriciate any hint.

  • I may have deleted some system files from my computer due to my antivirus and now my imac won't start. Actually it does, and then there is a blank screeen with the apple logo and it shuts down right away. is tehre a possibility of recovering my files?

    Hello
I was having some problems with my Imac, for a while it was slow and often disconneceted from my wifi, while this one worked perfectly (tested with other devices)
I thoug i might have a virus, so i downloaded an antivirus (mac keeper) and started checking.
I also did a scan of my computer using Console or something from the utilities, and then a folder popped witha  file I had canceled a while ago. I canceled the file and then my Imac continued to be slow.
i then restarted my Imac, but when it started, the usual grey logo of Apple appeared, and then it shut down suddently.
I tried to reboot it holding the command key and R but nothing, and then i tried holding the shift key and a bar appeared, and at half of the bar it sut itself down again.
I think it is probably a preoblem because I may have cancelled some of the system files from a folder called "private" in the "documents" folder.
Is there any way I can recover some of my files? maybe all of them? I hope so because I have some important files there
Is this a thing I can do myself or do Ineed to go to a MacStore to repair it? Will I need to change HD or just to format it and reinstall? also if there is any way i can recover some of my files that would be great.
    Thanks
    Ludo
P.S. problems appeared when i installed the Mavericks version.

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • I think I've deleted some essential files.

Thanks to 2 hours of sleep, a glitch in WhatSize which led me to believe the files were something that they were not, and my genius, I may have deleted some important files. My OS X Tiger installation disc is in the U.S. and I am currently in France. I have also not yet restarted my computer after deleting these files.
I went back into WhatSize and had it 'reveal in finder' the 'private' folder from which I deleted various files. I'm not sure if this is in any way informative, but there are some folders whose icons have small 'Do Not Enter' signs in the bottom corner. If these are of any significance, I have them written down.
    I believe I've deleted several swap files. In WhatSize under private/var/vm I see 3 files: sleepimage (1GB), swapfile0 (64MB) and app-profile (0 bytes).
My big question is what do I do now? If the answer is to reinstall OS X, will I need to back up my important files on a separate hard drive before doing so? If I turn off my computer will it turn back on?
    Thanks in advance.
And, yes, I now know not to delete ANY files unless I am 100% sure what they are. Double-check and triple-check. I blame the sleep deprivation.

Thank you very much for your response. I see what you are saying, but the sleepimage and the 64MB swap file are not what I deleted- they are what remain after deleting god knows what. Then again, I imagine that if I had deleted something truly essential to the functions of the computer, I would not be able to write this. I'm just nervous about restarting the machine for fear of losing 90G of music (of which only 60G is backed up- I know that's bad, but I'm saving up for new external & internal hard drives). That's really my only concern since I know I can reinstall OS X if need be.

  • Not enough space on my new SSD drive to import my data from time machine backup, how can I import my latest backup minus some big files?

I just got a new 256GB SSD drive for my mac, I want to import my data from time machine backup, but its larger than 256GB since it used to be on my old optical drive. How can I import my latest backup keeping out some big files on the external drive?

    Hello Salemr,
When you restore from a Time Machine back up, you can tell it to not transfer folders like Desktop, Documents. Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures and Public. Take a look at the article below for the steps to restore from your back up.

  • ? After updating my iTunes match, I noticed that some music files were no longer listed on my cloud on my laptop.  They are still listed on my iPhone. These are files imported to the cloud from legitimate CDs.

Just updated iTunes Cloud.  Noticed that some music files are missing, entire playlists.  They were here a few hours ago, now they are not.
But they are still on the cloud menu on my smartphone.
Files uploaded to cloud from CDs, legit, no boots or anything like that.
My iTunes is 10/7.0.21.  I have the newer version on a desktop and don't much care for it, so have resisted updating on the laptop, which is my primary computer.
I've rebooted the computer, turned off iTunes Match and turned it back on again.  No change.
Lots of questions.  How can my cloud catalog be different on different devices?  How can I get this stuff back on my lap-top cloud?  Anyone else having problems like this?  I'm trying to trim my physical collection by importing stuff to the cloud and discarding the physical media.  Am I shooting myself in the metaphorical foot?
    Suggestions much appreciated.

You might want to post this over in the iTunes Match forum.

Unfortunately, that drive is long gone, probably back to the mfr. Drives are not returned when they are exchanged. You can go by and ask them, but the chances are slim to none.

  • I have some audio files on my previous phone which I would like to export to my new iPhone 5. I am told that you can only import files from iTunes. Is that true? If not, how do I import files from my phone - or my Macbook pro laptop-to my phone?  Thanks!

iTunes will only import music from your phone that was purchased from the iTunes store.  To transfer music from other sources you have to use 3rd party software, such as PhoneView.

  • Why do my imported files or created titles always go to some random bin and not the one I want?

Everytime I import a file via right clicking > Import. It will always go to some random bin that I don't want it to. Each project it's a different bin. Even if I right click > import on the bin I want it to import into, the file will still go to some pre determined default folder. Usually one of my Footage folders a couple of layers down.
This same thing happens when created titles. I usually have to do a search to find the files. When I used CS2 and 3 I never had this problem.
Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to not have it go to a pre determined default bin? Or can I change that Bin?
Currently the only way I can get a file to go into the folder I want via importing is when I drag and drop it from my explorer window. I don't use the CS5 media browser because It doesn't have thumbnails.
    Thoughts, solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Close.
With this specific bin structure, if I import as you described the file imports to the Reception Bin. I tried the same proceedure with highlighting>righ clicking> and importing,  files to all bin levels even to the root level not inside a bin and it still goes to the reception bin. So for what ever reason for this project I am working on now the Reception Bin has become the default bin.
This holds true for titles as well, they get created in the reception bin.
I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I presort my footage into folders then "import folder" into the footage bin. I thought it might have something to do with the last bin I created or imported became a default bin but in this scenario. The Receception bin is the second to last folder I imported/created.

  • I am not being able to play sound when I import a .MTS file from my folder

I am not being able to play sound when I import a .MTS file from my folder on my sequence bar of my Premiere Pro CS6. Even if I use my Media Browser to import the file, the video plays fine, but the audio is disabled it seems. I don't know what to do since I have used .MTS files before without hassle on CS5.5. It is quite frustrating. What can I do?

    Hi debesh05,
Please mention the Operating System that you are using and also make and model of the Camera that was used to capture those clips. Also, try to make another folder with the same name in the same location where the .MTS files are and move all the clips into the new folder and then try to import the files again using Media Browser in Premiere Pro CS6. If this doesn't work then make a copy of one file and rename it as .M2TS and then import that single file into Premiere Pro CS6. Please update if either of the solution works for you.

  • Why do some imported jpegs, psd files show as black rectangles?

I recently scanned a dozen B&W 8x10 prints, plus a color  book dust jacket, into Photoshop, saving all to my desktop variously as jpegs, TIFFs and PSDs, then attempted to import the images to my iPhoto library. Some showed up fine but most were simply black rectangles. With Get Into I could see the file size and the format, but that's it.
One failed import was a 20MB jpeg, so file size might be an issue. But all other other failed imports were in the 2.7MB to 12MB. Suspecting file size may be the problem, I used PS to change the image size from 600dpi to 300 dpi, dropping the size to 5MB or so, and that worked. Question: Is there a size restriction on importing files to the iPhoto library? Any advice much appreciated. Thanks!  John Grissim.
    MacMini dual-core Intel, OS 10.6.8, iPhoto 6.0.6, CS3 Photoshop

Black and white photos scanned as grayscale are not supported by iPhoto.  Actually it's the color profile, Dot Gain 20%,  which is used that causes the problem.  CMYK color mode photos are also not supported by iPhoto.
For PSD files if you have an alpha channel that can cause problems in iPhoto.
With iPhoto size does'nt matter.  I've imported 100 MB files without a problem. In resizing you mighty have changed the profile or something that made it usable.
Scan all b/w photos as color.  You'll get the same result but they will be iPhoto compatible.
If you want to conver the current b/w scans without rescanning you can try one of the conversions apps available at  Toad's Cellar.
