No sound on some Netflix streaming on apple tv?

I sometimes, can't get audio on Netflix streaming using apple tv2. But, the audio comes through using my iPad 1. I'M using century links 2 wire router.
Any help out there?

I didn't think Netflix was airplay compatible as it's natively on the ATV.

  • Does Netflix support the apple tv outside of the US and Canada. I can stream Netflix on my ipod touch in the Caribbean but wondered if the apple tv would be supported.

Netflix became available in the Caribbean and Latin America recently and I can stream it on my Ipod touch . I recently had a bad experience with a blu-ray player while trying to stream Netflix. I got a message saying Netflix only supports newer versions of this device outside of the United States and Canada. I wanted to make sure this is not the case with the apple tv before purchasing. Does anyone know for sure if Netflix supports the apple TV outside of the US and Canada?

"I got a message saying Netflix only supports newer versions of this device outside of the United States and Canada"
sounds like an error msg that the firmware of your blueray player is required for compatability

  • TS5150 With certain movies I have downloaded digitally through Itunes or certain movies through Netflix played through Apple TV, I am only getting partial sound.  I am missing one or more sound tracks.  Am I missing something in the settings for Apple TV?

Are you using a stereo receiver or surround sound system for the audio by chance.  What you are describing sounds like a receiver that is not setup correctly, or does not have the speakers connected to it correctly to support Dolby surround, 5.1 or 7.1.  Which is why it is only happening on some content.  It would only be on the ones that are encoded to support Dolby audio.

  • I have an early apple tv. Will it support netflix streaming? Also what is the size of the newest apple tv's hard drive? And, will my current apple tv be able to use the icloud services?

I have an early apple tv. Will it support netflix streaming? Netflix does not show on the internet tab on the AppleTV display.
Will my current appletv connect to icloud services, synch, etc.?
Also, what is the size of the current appleTV's hard drive?

    1. No to NetFlix and ATV1
    2. If you mean your ATV1, no.
    3. If you mean your ATV1, there are more than one hard drive size.  If you mean the new ATV2, it doesn't have a hard drive.

  • Do Netflix movies stream to Apple TV in HD?

Anybody know if the Netflix streaming to the new ATV is in regular definition or high definition?

As no one here has used one, hard to say. What I can tell you is that, using my Roku, some things are available in HD as long as you connection is fast enough. If it isn't, Netflix ratchets down the quality. Not everything on Netflix is available in HD.

  • New Apple TV and Netflix streaming

    Hi,
I have an "legacy" Apple TV running with iTunes 8.x
and am interested in getting the new Apple TV to give me
Netflix streaming access. (So I would have 2 Apple TVs
    running in my media room).
So, question is -- do I need to upgrade iTunes to v10
to get Netflix streaming support on the new Apple TV?
Or do I need iTunes10 for the new Apple TV, regardless?
I've been hesitant to upgrade iTunes as I have had problems
with upgrades in the past (playlists disappearing, AppleTV disappearing,
etc.) I have also seen several postings with people having
issues with legacy Apple TV when upgrading to iTunes 10.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Winston, you seem to be very knowledgable in the tv arena.
Maybe you can help me. My tv stopped connecting or is failing to connect to the itunes store. This occurred yesterday, for no apparent reason. There was absolutely no changes done on my end. I did query apple in regard to a movie that I rented that never appeared, but that was it.
All connectivity is working fine, I can podcast, listen to music, watch previews etc., I just cannot rent or download a movie, as it cannot connect to itunes store. I have deauthorised and reauthorised via itunes 10, and all seems OK, I can sync between itunes and my existing tv, but can no longer download movies or TV shows, as it seems to fail on handshake or authority or something...
Any leads would be greatly appreciated, as I have rented two movies, which I have been billed for, and they have been downloaded, just can't watch them...
    Thanks,
    Michael.

  • Apple TV Netflix Streaming & Other errors

Okay So I got Apple TV for Christmas. But Ive been experiencing very frustrating and upsetting problems. The following problems are very CRITICAL.
    1. NETFLIX STREAMING
One of the featured abilities of Apple TV was Netflix Streaming. At first I loved using it, but then I started noticing problems. Half the time I played a netflix video... the video would pause and buffer every few seconds. Time after Time I have to deal with this. And its not my internet connection, because my PS3 can stream Netflix no problem. This is the MOST FRUSTRATING THING ABOUT APPLE TV. A Deal Breaker. I use my PS3 now for Netflix, because I refuse to watch a movie or tv show and have to deal with pausing every few seconds. It ruins watching the show. YOU NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP!
    2. Error Cannot Connect To Netflix
Why is it one of the flagship features of Netflix has such a terminal error. Every week or so I have to disconnect (only found out this solution by googling this problem on the net otherwise I would of never found out how to fix Netflix on Apple TV) Apple TV, wait 10 - 15 seconds, reconnect, wait for it to load, and hope I dont get that ' Cannot Connect to Netflix Error". People say it may be netflix but its not. Apple TV cant access Netflix but yet my PS3, iPad, and iPhone can. Apple Please fix this.
THESE 2 PROBLEMS NEED TO BE FIXED ASAP. THEY HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTH WITH NOT A PATCH TO FIX IT. I didnt get Google TV, Boxee, etc. because I wanted Apple TV. Please dont make me regret my choice.
And the following are secondary concerns:
    1. Please allow us to access our Youtube Subscriptions and Favorites faster on Apple TV.
Everytime I select Youtube to watch my subscriptions and favorites ... I have to go through menus to do so. Can they not pop up as soon as Select Youtube. My accounts already on there just let it pop up on the first menu.
    2. Apps. Please include apps for Apple TV.
Apps where we can access Hulu, do skype chats, allow for keyboard integration. Allow us to do more with it.
Apple please fix these errors otherwise I have to stop recommending Apple TV and become a Detractor of the product and its support.

    To Apple and Netflix,
I have recently purchased 2 Apple TV devices and a Roku XDS and subscribed to Netflix.
The problem I'm having, along with many others in the various forums, is that Netflix is accessed and "Suggestions" and "Previously Viewed" items show up but when I attempt to play a selected item I get a message on screen showing "error 112" and no streaming occurs.
The ATV refers customers to Netflix and Netflix refers customers back to Apple. Which of course isn't a fruitful solution.
Having no email contact for Netflix isn't helpful either. After contacting them on the phone they would not generate a ticket number and would not log my complaint as the system can't record referrals to Apple. They also do not have employee identifiers so you only get a first name of the service representative, I can only assume Netflix wants no record of customer complaints and wants to wear you down by waiting on the phone. Apple support is almost as daunting. You better have your serial number handy or you are going nowhere. So if you are at work and trying to contact support… Good luck.
    My equipment:
    Zoom DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
Charter HSI Plus 2Mbps Up / 20Mbps Down
2 ea. Apple TV 2nd gen
    1 ea. Roku XDS
As a veteran film and TV post production engineer in Burbank, CA, I am a methodical trouble shooter and well versed in negotiating software and hardware from diverse products. I quickly determine my internet connection is solid and bandwidth is adequate (typically between 20 to 30Mbps and in the later hours up to 75Mbps). I check that other streaming channels on that device are functioning properly such as "Radio" and "YouTube". I can stream Netflix from the Roku. I can even stream Netflix from my second Apple TV device. But the other Apple TV continues to exhibit the same symptom "error 112". I can usually get around the problem with a couple of hard reboots of the Apple TV, but not always. The problem is not confined to one ATV, either device may exhibit "error112".
I will also be posting this open letter on Amazon and Facebook and hope to post your response and solution as well.

  • Why doesn't netflix stream on my apple tv when I can stream it on my macbook?

Why can't I stream netflix on my apple tv when it works fine on my macbook?  I get error msgs and sometimes it says netflix isn't available.  I've tried resetting and it doesn't work.  Makes me want to throw the **** apple tv out the window.  I got the apple tv because streaming through the blu ray was slow and now apple tv isn't working.  Why does it seem like each device works differently when streaming netflix?

    Hi Greg,
Are you using the Appl TV connected to the internet using wifi?
If so, try checking the DNS configuration on the Apple TV. It should be equal to the configuration on your wifi router. In my case it solved the problem.
    Good luck.

  • Why won't some of my MP4s stream to Apple TV (or iPad) via Home Sharing?

Hi all. I've been converting my DVDs, HD-DVDs, and Blu-rays to MP4, using MakeMKV and then Handbrake 0.9.9.5530 64-bit for encoding. I have been intending to play the files on my iPad, both transferring to the device and streaming via Home Sharing. I also want stream these via Apple TV (3rd gen, Model A1427) in the house via Home Sharing.
All the files sourced from HD-DVDs & Blu-rays seem to work fine. However, more than half the DVDs I've converted -- using the same Handbrake preset I've been using for the BRs -- will not play back on the iPad, or streamed to the iPad, or streamed to Apple TV. The files will copy to the iPad, but for both device playback and streaming, I get the error message "The operation could not be completed." On Apple TV, it's "An error occurred loading this content, try again later."
The files will play in iTunes for Windows, and they will play in VLC. (Files bought from the iTunes Store also stream fine.) There is no metadata in these files, but I am manually adding a poster image once I drop them into iTunes.
It seems pretty clear that this is a problem with the file itself, but since the only issues I'm having involve streaming, I reset my router for good measure. I restarted the Apple TV and quit all the apps on my iPad before restarting it, too. I've also made sure the firmware on all devices is up to date. None of that had an effect.
I compared a DVD rip (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adeventure) to a BR rip (Independence Day). Both feature exactly the same bitrates & sample rates for video and audio -- according to the Windows Properties -> Details tab, Data rate is 1499kbps, Total bitrate 1659, 23 frames/second, 2 stereo audio channels at 48KHz. The only difference is the BR frame size is larger (1920x812), and of course the run times & file sizes are different. But the bigger file plays fine, and a lot of these smaller files do not.
MP4s from DVDs that will stream: Toy Story, Dead Again, Clue, School of Rock.
MP4s from DVDs that won't stream: Ocean's Eleven, Escape from New York, Galaxy Quest, Robocop (Criterion). Shaun of the Dead, Team America World Police
Again, these were all converted on the same PC with the same software and same settings. If there's a common thread among the source material of the MP4s that will play and won't play, I don't know what it is, but I figured it would not hurt to list it.
My Handbrake settings are based on Handbrake's AppleTV 2 preset, with the following modifications:
Avg Bitrate 1500, 2-pass, no turbo 1st pass
    Framerate: 30, Peak
    Optimize:
    x264 Preset: Very Slow
    H.264 Profile: High
    H.264 Level: 3.1
Container is MP4, as is the file extension. (Since dragged-and-dropped MKV files default to M4V in Handbrake, I select MKV then re-select MP4 from the Container drop-down before adding to Handbrake's queue.)
Someone suggested I simply change the file extension to M4V, so I tried it, but that did not fool any of the stream devices.
I have been testing the output MP4 files on my PC as I go, and once they played fine in VLC after Handbrake, I have been deleting the MKV files. I can go back and rip them all again if I have to (these are all from DVDs I personally own), but obviously I'd rather not do that! So my questions now are:
    - Could this be related to the audio stream? I've been opting for the DD 3/2.1 stream whenever possible when ripping, and letting Handbrake mix it down.
    - If I run the MP4s through Handbrake a second time with a different setting, will it do a pass-through convert instead of a full re-encode? (I don't want to shrink the video if only the audio needs attention.) If so, which setting should that be?
    - Is there a way to repair these MP4 files without completely starting over with a fresh MKV?
    - If I have to start from scratch, should I go with Constant Quality over Average Bitrate?
Hopefully someone can spot my issue based on this description. I'm happy to send you my Handbrake settings as a .plist file and offer any other info I can, as I'm stumped as to what went wrong. There has to be a logical reason. Thanks!

I've continued tests on different films, and tried my entire collection. I've found about two dozen that will play fine on the PC, but will not cooperate when streamed to either Apple TV or my iPad. I tried several more tests with the audio, and that turned out not to be a factor -- I could not replicate that on another test.
I wonder if something in the header of these files is corrupted or a flag is set incorrectly or something along those lines, as the data appears to be fine -- it's just not "handshaking" with my streaming hardware and/or the Apple Home Sharing code that powers it.
Is there any way for me to "scrub" these files and amend their headers, or get into the file and tinker with that info by hand?

  • I own a powerpc G5 2.1ghz PPC and have itunes 9.2.1. Netflix through my Apple TV streams only Vol 2 of MI-5, even though 9 volumes exist. any solutions? or do i need a new computer meeting apple tv tech requirements?

do i need a new computer, or is there a work around

I don't think that is completely correct, Allan. Netflix streaming doesn't have anythign to do with your computer hardware. Yes, if you want to stream content from iTunes it must meet the hardware specs, but the OP isn't talking about that.
To the OP, scroll up to the top of the episode list and select the "other seasons in this series" option. Then you'll be able to see the other 8 volumes.

  • Netflix Streaming No Longer Working

I am no longer able to (Watch Instantly) Stream Netflix videos. I get a page that in essence says my computer doesn't measure up to Netflix's System Requirements. My Mac exceeds Netflix 's requirements - (OS10.8.2, Safari 6, Firefox 17, and the latest Chrome). Netflix says it's a problem with my Apple OS software, that either it's true or it appears to be true due to some corruption of my Apple software, or it's a communication issue in which my computer isn't giving up it's data.
Could it be a port issue?
This problem is on all networks I've connected to but our other Mac (same specs. and routers and networks) doesn't have this problem at all.
    HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!!
I connect to the site and account without any problems, just can't Stream.

ALL BETTER NOW..... after alot of calls... to Netflix, D-Link, Apple, and even Microsloth (Silverlight is used by Netflix) I had a brain storm.... I checked my firewall settings and viola!, I had made one setting long ago that doesn't get along with the upgraded version of Netflix's streaming feature. Once I changed the setting (unchecked 'Hide information about my computer and browsres') all was restored.

  • Why would Lightroom video capabilities/iTunes import/Netflix streaming/Photoshop all stop working at once?

    Hi forum --
Several programs all stopped working at the same time and will only work (briefly) right after I've restarted my computer including:
    - iTunes audio cd importing
    - Lightroom video importing and playback
Netflix streaming (on both Safari and Chrome) won't work and Photoshop (CS4) won't open at all.
Videos work without a problem in: Quicktime, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and Bridge CS4 and CS6.  YouTube also works without a problem.
Maybe the problems are conincidence, but this seems like it is posisbly a software problem with my computer, not my programs.
I have tried reinstalling Ligthroom and resetting the preferences files but they don't help.
The only things that I can think of that happened is that I:
    1. downloaded my own videos from my own YouTube acocunt after my external hard drive failed and maybe there was a virus?
    2. I deleted some programs with "Clean My Mac 2" and maybe it deleted some crucial file someplace?
I am running a 2009 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.53 Ghz processor and 4 GB RAM and Mountain Lion (everything is up to date).
    Thank you for any suggestions!

I had problems with streaming until I changed the WiFi channel that I was using.  The original one conflicted with my neighbor.  After that, MOST of my streaming problems vanished.  Occasionally, a movie would pause for more buffering and I eventually ran an ethernet cable from the Apple TV to my Apple Extreme (to eliminate the Wifi).  I have not had a single problem since then (except to repair the drywall after running the ethernet from one floor to another).  :-)

  • Why is local video streaming to Apple TV jerky?

Video streaming to Apple TV (v 3) has always been smooth. No matter what the online source -- from YouTube to Netflix -- the video is consistently good. Video streamed from Macs, though, is jerky to the point of unwatchable. Even when I stream it from a a Mac connected by ethernet with wi-fi off, the result is unwatchable.   I cannot think what the problem could be. My wi-fi signal is strong (from two bridged Apple Extreme units) so when I stream wirelessly network shouldn’t be the problem, and I’m just a few feet from both ATV and AE.

Seems that if it's network related, this is going to be a hard nut to crack.  I assume you can bring your Airport Extreme in to be checked out, but if you are using another brand of wireless router, you won't get much help there.  I know wireless interference can play havoc with signals and one of the things I'd check out with some sniffer software is that possibility.  Just sitting here in my kitchen I can see signals from 15 different wireless routers in my neighborhood.  Using 2.4 GHz channel selection can make all the difference between good and poor performance.  Granted those 15 access points in many cases aren't close enough to interfere, a couple are and I've seen performance on my Macbook Pro suck sometime because a close by wireless router pops onto or close to the same channel I'm on.  That's a lot why I bought an Airport Extreme and use the 5 GHz side as much as possible.  In the case of my Apple TV and all my Apple devices, I run on the 5GHz side.  Signal strength is good and when I get the slow downs when using Airplay, the reboots of the streaming devices usually resolve the issues.
