No sound on Windows XP Pro

Because the banks will not guarantuee internetbanking under Windows XP I have installed Windows 7 on two of my Pavilions. Because I am comfortable with XP and do not want a plethora of operating systems I have rolled my Pavilion t3710.nl back to XP (Pro SP3) from Vista (a clean installation). Although I use this PC as a file server sound is not really an issue but I find it very frustrating that I cannot get it to work. The MB is equipped with a ALC888 soundsystem from Realtek, but no matter which drivers I install, I cannot get it to work. I have seen on multiple forums that this is a known issue, yet no one seems to have a solution. I have resigned myself to the fact that I cannot get it to work but I will give it one last ditch attempt through this forum.
As the MB uses an AMD chipset, I have first installed the AMD Radeon 200 Express legacy drivers. Maybe additional drivers are needed. But the computer says that everything is working correctly. I have also made sure that the speakers are not dampened. There is sound though the headphone socket on the front of the computer but there is no sound from the rear socket which worked fine under Vista.
I may be missing the obvious, but I have no idea what.

Hi JHvW,
I have read your post on setting up audio for your speakers in Windows XP, and I would be happy to be of assistance!
To better identify the drivers that will be needed for the realtek speakers, please take a look at this link on How to Find Hardware ID. The hardware you are looking for should be labelled "Realtek" under Sound. You may be able to find compatible drivers that will work with this hardware.
Please re-post with the hardware ID of your Realtek speakers and I will diligently follow up with you!

  • Qosmio F30 - no sound on Windows XP Pro

    hello,
first i have install Windows XP MCE, but few day ago i install Windows XP Profesional edition, and lose sound in my notebook.
    What was happen?
    How I can fix that?
Someone say that is becouse Qosmio F30 cannot support Profesional edition. Truth?

    Hi
The notebook support Win XP MCE and XP Pro!
The XP MCE supports some additional features but its the same OS!
I think you should firstly check if the sound driver was properly installed (check device manager). Check the sound volume control and the sound settings in the control panel!
    Do it!

  • Satellite L655 - Sound not working on fresh install of Windows 7 Pro x64

    Howdy all,
I purchased an L655-S5111 from Newegg that was on sale, put an SSD into it, and then installed a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I received from my current employer (I'm an IT guy). I've updated to the latest BIOS revision (1.70), and I've got all Windows updates installed, all drivers installed, including the correct Conexant HD Audio and ATI HDMI Audio drivers. Unfortunately, sound does not work. Sound worked briefly when I first installed Windows 7, then I muted it until I could get it set up with headphones. When I unmuted it, it had ceased to work.
This laptop is less than 3 weeks old at this point, and I get no audio over headphones or speakers, although Windows clearly shows no issues with the drivers, they're the latest version, on a fresh install, and I can see the audio in the mixer playing. The microphone built-in to the laptop does pick up sound as well. I believe that this is most likely not an issue of physical interconnection, but more likely a software level issue, I'm just having trouble identifying where it is at.
I also have no related error messages anywhere in the event logs.

I have two problems with installing the recovery image:
    1) I didn't get a copy of the recovery media with the system
    2) The recovery media would install Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit which is what came with the laptop.
Since I have legitimately licensed copies of Windows 7 Pro/Enterprise 64-bit, I would much rather install that. Since I used the drivers and software from the Toshiba website for this particular model, it should be working. There should be no functional difference between the recovery media and a fresh Windows install from the Microsoft-provided Windows media and Toshiba provided drivers from their website.
As you can see in the sysinfo (I'm assuming Keany the respondent is the admin that approved my post and edited it, thus had access to the data which was removed) I have all the Toshiba software and drivers installed, identically to if this was the recovery image, I just have it on a different edition of Windows 7.
I'm open to any other suggestions, but unfortunately it is not possible to do the above.

  • I installed Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, now there is no sound.

I have a HP 620 Laptop pc, WZ257UT#ABA. I installed Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, now there is no sound.
I tried all the downloads, including hard reboot. Defaulting bios, etc.
Any possible solutions? I need this going by DEC 24.
Everything else is working fine that I can tell.
    Thanks in advance.

More than likely it is a driver compatibility issue with Windows 8.
Did you purchase your notebook before or after October 1, 2011? If you purchased it prior to this date HP will not be producing drivers for the notebook, but the hardware manufacturer may. If the product was purchased after that date you'll just need to watch the product's software and driver page for the drivers to be released.

  • No Sound HP 655 Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I have no sound but I have stumbled across a slow unsatisfactory workaround.
I need help getting this fixed correctly.
    OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 6.1.7601 SP 1 build 7601
Prod Name: HP 655 Notebook PC
    PN: (prod number) : C1B96UT#ABA
Whenever I power-up the system after a shutdown. I have no sound.
I found that doing the following gets sound working
    1. boot system
    2. login and go to Control panel->Programs->Programs and Features
Uninstall "Realtek High Definition Driver" (it is version is 6.0.1.6577)
A Pop-up says you must restart computer to have the setting take effect
        So I click "YES"
    3. After the restart
login and after a minute or so a pop-up says:
"Realtek High Definition Audio, Device Driver installed successfully"
The same "Realtek High Definition Driver" Version 6.0.1.6577) is what got installed again.
    4. Now I have SOUND.
I can now restart the system any number of times and the sound still works.
BUT if I shutdown then there is no sound the next time up.
I have gone to hp.com/support to look for latest driver and it is 6.0.1.6577.
Any help getting this fixed properly will be appreciated.

Had the same problem with HP 655 mentioned here by DFCD and others. Reinstalled the computer (W7 32bit and also 64bit, too) and even without doing anything, the scheme was always the same - first start after turning off = audio does not work (s/pdif only, speakers "not plugged in"); first and any subsequent restarts = all good.
So tried to flash bios to a different version  - I had F29, flashed to F27. Now everything works as expected.
Hopefully, it works for you, too.

  • Please help me! WIndows XP Pro x64 can't setup sound card

My system is Lenovo N200 0687 U28, Windows XP Pro SP1 x64, I tried many time to setup Conexant-Audio-Driver and never  success. May Anyone can help me, or tell me someone or some where can implement this problem.
    THanhks alot

BDaqua's suggestion to turn off WEP or any other encryption is like saying
    Q. "I need a secure home so I got a new high security lock fitted on my front door but the key is a bit stiff and I can't always unlock door'
    A. 'Well don't lock the door leave the door unlocked and you will have no problem getting in or out'
My answer would be to try a different lock.
WEP is insecure so you may as well leave the door open. So any articles about bootcamp and WEP problems you can ignore.
Try setup your network to use the former WPA standard setup a WPA-PSK (pre shared key)
Try using WPA and not WPA2 to getinto your network from windows XP.
Also have a look at this article from microsofts knowledge base.
Does the Airport/Wireless hardware in the MacBook Pro not work with bootcamp?
I am using bootcamp and can connect my macbook running XP to my wireless network using WPA.

  • The sound on my macbook pro is not working

The sound on my macbook pro is not working. When I increase the sound, the icon appears as if everything is working, but no sound comes from the speakers. Earphones don't work either. I have tried a PRAM reset but at times, this doesn't even work. It's really frustrating having to restart my computer every time I want the sound to work, and even when I do that, theres a 50 50 chance of it working again. It generally happens after my laptop goes to sleep and I wake it up. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it or even know what caused it?
There are a lot of discussions around the earphone jack but I have checked that. I've tried a PRAM reset which hasn't worked, and my sound output is set to Internal speakers.
    HELP!!

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

  • USB MIDI not working in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

The problem is that even though my devices are recognized in Control Panel/ Sound and in Device Manager, no MIDI data actually flows and I cannot sync my keyboard to the Yamaha software that edits it.  The error message in the Yamaha software reads
“The following MIDI ports can not be opened at this time”.   At first, MIDI was working and I could sync up, but after about a week, right around the time I uninstalled and re-installed a MS Lifecam, it failed and has not worked since.
I have been working directly with Yamaha tech support on the issue for some time. I have a Yamaha SX70 XS keyboard, which is recognized by Windows as a connected USB device. It is self-powered, not powered by USB. I am using the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver version
3.1.2 for Windows 7 64-bit (the latest driver). And the latest versions of all their editing software for Win7 64-bit. They assure me that those work for other users of Win7 64-bit. In my case though, everything shows up in Windows, but MIDI doesn’t actually
work. And I cannot sync to the keyboard due to the above error message.
Yamaha tells me that their USB-MIDI driver is installing fine on my machine, except that it’s missing a windows driver at the bottom of the driver stack. (You can see this in Device Manager, Properties/Driver tab, then Driver Details. The missing driver
is ksthunk.sys, which I think handles kernel streaming. Sounds like that would relate to MIDI data. They have never heard of this driver not showing up there, and they cannot reproduce the problem. ksthunk.sys is on my machine in c:\windows\system32\drivers\
and in the registry the image path is \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\ksthunk.sys
All devices are “working properly” in Windows Device Manager, despite that missing driver. Yamaha MIDI Driver is shown in Control Panel/Sound, and it can be worked with there (opened, closed, configured, etc.).  I have also tried three different USB
cables (but those shouldn't be an issue since the keyboard is showing up in Windows).
I was also advised by Yamaha to edit registry key  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32  and remove all midi, midi1, midi2, etc entries, then uninstall and reinstall all drivers. Which I did, but it didn't help.
So far, no amount of re-installation, event viewing, uninstalling devices, numerous reboots, etc has fixed it. On this machine, that driver just doesn’t hook up to the Yamaha MIDI driver and show up in the stack.
So it looks like it may be a Windows 7 config problem on my machine, and I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice on how to fix it. The Microsoft forums contain a fair number of users reporting similar problems, some are audio and some are webcam
related. I've followed those threads, and done several of the suggestions, but haven't found a solution to this one.
This is a Dell XPS 8300 Windows 7 64-bit PC with all the latest updates, only about six weeks old. I've been struggling with the MIDI problem for most of that time.  I'm an IT professional (network and systems admin), so you can be fairly technical
    in your response.
Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am so glad I found keyman7's description, since I have exactly the same problem.
The problem is not related to MIDI output! I have it with a pure USB-MIDI-input device (keyboard), whichs produces "unknown externeal error" every time I try to select it as input. The same thing occurs with a USB-MIDI-Cable.
I compared the driver details from my system (Dell T1500 windows 7 pro 64 bit) with those of another windows 7 pro 64 bit. On that other system the device works like a charm (so it is not the hardware, either).
On the other system I find ksthunk.sys in addition to the modules that are listed on my system as well (beeing \windows\system32\drivers\drmk.sys, ..\prtcls.sys, ..\USBAUDIO.sys and \windows\system32\SysFx.dll, ..\WMALFXGFXDSP.dll).
Can it be some other USB driver is interfering with this driver stack? I have no idea how to figure out which one it could be. Or, it has been suggested in other threads with somewhat similar looking symptoms, ksthunk.sys has been removed as  UpperFilters
    entry?
    Help - please!

  • How To Use The Same Library - MacBook Pro's And Windows XP Pro?

Background:  I have a fully configured MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.3. Also, I run Windows XP Pro SP3 using Parallels Desktop. My primary iTunes Library and all content is stored on an external hard disk and the iTunes is "pointed" to that location by setting the iTunes' Preferences' Advanced Settings to the full path where the Library is located. Everything I have inside iTunes works perfect - the size if the Library is over 225GB!
BUT, when I install and use iTunes on my Windows XP Pro operating system (under Parallels), the contents of the Library SEEMS to work okay (while I'm in Windows) but the Windows' iTunes Library location in Preferences' Advance Tab is NOT THE SAME LOCATION AS IS THE MAC's LIBRARY LOCATION! It is not at the same location as my main/primary iTunes Library is "pointed to".
The problem occurs when I close Windows and return to the Mac OS X and then try to use my primary iTunes. All of the contents (and any content) within iTunes no longer work! When I attempt to play ANY song, movie, TV show, music video, audiobook, etc., a message pops up saying in effect "Location of 'x' can't be found, do you want to locate it?" I can then click 'yes' and navigate to the Library file that contains the song's file and it will then play fine, as it should. BUT, ONLY THAT SINGLE SONG WILL WORK - THE REMAINING 225GB STILL DON'T WORK!!!
So, I am forced to go into iTunes' Preferences' Advanced tab and click on "Change Location" then navigate to the proper library file (NOTE, THE LOCATION HAD BEEN CHANGED TO THE LOCATION FOR THE WINDOWS' LIBRARY LOCATION!!!)! Doing this corrects the primary iTunes functionality, but only after being forced to deleting the "iTunes Media Folder", quit iTunes, restart iTunes and Consolidate the Library - a whole bunch of steps and time to get back to "normal"!!!!!
Again, this all happens by going into Windows, opening its iTunes, then THAT triggers the entire scenario I've described above - EVERY TIME!
Thus, I avoid iTunes when I go into Windows, but I should NOT have to avoid using iTunes inside Windows! I hope I have described the problem/issues well enough that someone of you experts can provide a practical solution for me.
A potential remedy I've thought of is:  Go into Windows' iTunes then go into its Preferences' Advance tab and change ITS location to be the exact same location as the primary Mac OS X's, click OK, then immediately close that iTunes.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE IT WILL WORK - I.e., USING THE EXACT SAME LIBRARY LOCATION FOR BOTH iTUNES?????
IF THIS WOULD WORK, WHAT ELSE MUST I DO TO EITHER iTUNES OR TO BOTH iTUNES TO USE BOTH iTUNES
              USING THE SAME LIBRARY???
Thank you for any suggested solutions - VERY MUCH!
    Larry

Note that sharing a folder between different OS that use different file paths is not recommended as some files can have an absolute path or other OS specific data.
You can click the Choose Folder button if you want to create or use a folder in a different location.<br />
Make sure to select an empty folder (you need to create this folder in advance) and not a folder that already has files as Firefox will use the specified location in this case.

  • Downgrade From Windows Vista Home to Windows XP Pro Dutch on Satellite P200-15N

Not knowing where I really should put this .. I put it in this forum part too :)
    So :
    Hello,
I bought a new laptop with Vista Home and two Partitions... I would like to install on the Second partition "Windows XP pro" (with official key & SP2 included) !! But when I run the XP Cd I get an error that the HD is not recognized ... So I searched on the forum here to see if there's a possibility to passby it..
    So What I did :
    1) I download the "Intel Storage Drivers" from ->
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OS FullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs= 44&submit=Go%21
    2) Than I used the Floppy Maker, to make a floppy with the needed drivers (also on the above site)
    3) I downloaded a freeware copy of "Nlite"
    4) I also downloaded extra drivers from the "Toshiba" Website itself (Lan, Storage, ...)
    5) I Made a map "Xp Pro P200-15N" and put all the drivers into it .. Including the Exe I downloaded from the above link Named "iata76_cd.exe"..
    6) I made a new bootable Win XP CD with "Nlite" & added all the drivers I've downloaded and followed the given procedure by "Nlite". It made a new bootable CD (with all drivers and .exe's and .inf's, etc...)
    7) Then I boot my laptop with the CD, but it still give an error on the sata-drives .. (that It can't be found) ..
So my question is .. What am i doing wrong and what other Drivers should I download to make it work ?? I've got an external USB-Floppy Drive.. If additional Drivers should be added ... So I hope there Is someone Ho can help it..
I install XP for business reasons .. Stuff that the Vista Home can't handle ...
Hope I got a respons soon .. Cz it's like really URGENT..
thx in advance and excuse me if there are errors in my writing (I still Am From Belgium )
    *** UPDATE ***
The above method didn't work for me .. So took my USB-Floppy drive and put the drivers on it (hit "F6" on the startup, added the drivers found on the above link, he installed it)...
Then I was able too choose a partition ...
So far everything ok ... It asked me if wanted to format or not .. I said ok ..
Then When he wanted to start copying, I got :
Insert the CD-rom or Floppy with the name
    Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver
    In station A:
    * Press ENTER when Ready ...
And know I don't know what I have to do .. Cz hitting enter doesn't do thing :s
So what Am I doing wrong it's getting really ANNOYING and frustrating ... I did everything they said in the link, did the method with f6, but still now reaction :s .. Anyone ???
    Kindly Regards,
    Frederic

    Hi,
Knowing I went trough a lot of trouble installing my Windows XP on my P200, i'll show you how I did it :) (Cz you need the SATA drivers to have a good install)
    1) First of all you need a legal copy of your "Windows XP" OS
    2) Go to -> http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OS FullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs= 44&submit=Go%21 and download the drivers.
    3) Download "nlite" and run the programm
    4) Nlite will ask you to insert a working copy of "Windows XP", there after it'll ask you a folder where the new Updated XP should be installed (create one like "My P200 Win XP"..), then add only the driver that you need for you SATA drive and burn the new XP
    5) Normally after that, you'll be able choosing a partition and install Windows XP together with "Vista"..
    6) Install all the needed drivers on XP (don't worry if you can't choose your old VISTA)
    7) After you installed, if you would like a "DUAL Boot" with Vista you have to install VistaBootPRO to install a correct Bootloader
    8) After that go on VISTA and install "EASYbcd", you'll have to assign XP the correct Drive letter (you can change the name from "older version" to "windows XP".
    9) Normally you'll be able booting XP and VISTA
But now, i'm still searching how to make my sound work ..
Sorry for my bad english :p I'm dutch-speaking
Hope this little tutorial will help some people who are having the same problems as I did
