No sound on X-Fi XtremeGa

Hey, I bought an X-Fi XtremeGamer and it just came today. Previously, I had the following hardware setup:
Asus Maximus Formula w/ some SupremeFX HD Audio onboard sound card that it comes with.
Also using the Razer HP- headphones.
The rest isn't that important as far as I know. Anyway, I unplugged everything, took out the sound card the motherboard came with and installed the X-Fi into one of the open PCI slots. Plugged everything back in and went directly into the BIOS. Disabled the 'Onboard HD Audio' option, save/exit, booted into Windows. No sound, of course, so I installed the X-Fi driver cd for Windows XP. After installing all of that, I restarted my computer when prompted annnnd... no sound. At all.
The X-Fi is listed in the device manager and appears to be working properly but I can't get any sound with anything. I tried the Control Panel\Sound and Audio Devices and it says there is no audio device. I went to the Creative site and got the latest (to my knowledge) drivers for my card (October 06?), restarted, still nothing. None of the applications that come with the driver cd pick up any audio device but I'm sure it's securely connected to my motherboard (triple checked). I'm kind of out of ideas (tried other headphones as well to make sure it's not a headphone issue but that yielded the same result). I also tried a clean boot.
Could someone please give me some insight? Thank you.

johnsguns, have you disabled the integrated soundcard from you Asus M/B first? Try that and see if it will work. Hope that will help you.

  • No sound out of my Xtremega

I've bought a brand-new computer not long ago and I'm having problems with my Xtremegamer ever since. I only get sounds out of my speakers at random times, not all the time. Sometimes there is no problem at all with the sound but almost all the time when I turn on my computer I can't hear anything. Everything is normal on Sound Devices and I have the right soundcard in there. My speakers are connected properly as well. I see no problems on my Device Manage and my onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS. When i connect my speakers to the onboard sound there's no problem at all. My drivers are also updated for the Xtremegamer and I've reinstalled it already. Any ideas before I call my manufacturer and replace the card?

Try plugging the headphone jack in and out of the headphone port half a dozen times or so. There's a tiny switch in there that may be stuck. Is there a red light showing in that port?

  • No sound with X-fi XtremeGa

I hope someone can help. I built a new system with the Asus P5AD2-E Deluxe motherboard with the 775 socket and Cmiedia cmi9880 audio built in. I just bought a x-fi Xtremegamer sound card. Installation went good but no sound. I reinstalled and same thing. So I tried my Boston Acoustics Digital BA7500G system in the digital output... Nothing. I put a cheap set of speakers in and I had nothing but white noise. I was reading that the Boston acoustics Digital speakers that where used on a Gateway system used a soundblaster Li've card. Sound blaster say I have to download the drivers from Gateway. Its not a gateway system just using the digital speakers. an anyone please help. I'll buy new speakers if the Bostons don't work but I can't get the cheapys work ether. Thank you.

  • Sound Blaster X-fi XtremeGa

I have recently been having a few audio issues with my PC. My speakers started acting up not to long ago (one speaker goes out from time to time). Then I was listening to music relati'vely loud and my sub went out. Distraught, but not worried, I let the issue stand as I would like to upgrade my speakers anyway (they still played fine, just 0 bass, and minus one speaker). Then my sound just stopped working all together (unless I turned the speaker to full blast and everything on high, then it played quietly, but definitely audible).
Myself and a few of my buddies are into building our own PCs, so we have (by every standard) very similar PCs. This is all happening on my Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Gamer sound card. My body has an identical one. I put the card in his PC and it worked fine. I then switched the PCI slot that it was in with the wireless adapter and the adapter works fine in that PCI slot.
I then had an older, but not too old, computer lying around. I put the card in and installed the drivers. It worked just fine again. I know that it cannot be the sound card because it works in two other computers. I don't think it is a PCI slot because I swapped it with a known good slot. I decided (since I had wanted to anyway) to reinstall Windows. I did that and it is still the same. Any ideas at all? One guy on a different forum said that it could be the resource allocation in the bios or device manager. The device manager says no conflicts and this is the info from the BIOS:
    PCI IRQ Assignment - Auto
    ----- Display Contrlr
    ----------- Bus 2 Dev 0 Func 0
PCI 2 IRQ Assignment - Auto
    ----- Network Contrlr
    ----------- Bus Dev 7 Func 0
PCI 3 IRQ Assignment - Auto
    ----- IEEE 394 Host Controller
    ----------- Bus Dev 4 Func 0
PCI 4 IRQ Assignment - Auto
    ----- Multimedia Device
    ----------- Bus Dev 9 Func 0
Thanks for any help, I know this sounds like a messed up problem. I am just hoping someone has experienced this before and will to take the time to read all of this. But anyways, thanks for the help!

When you updated to Vista; did you use the option to keep some things installed or did you have to re-install everything If you chose to keep some things from files and programs when upgrading it may have keep the XP stuff for XFi card. You also might want to look at the cd for the XFi card. I have that same card that you have and also the Fatalty card as well. Neither of mine are Vista ready. Meaning none of the software or drivers on the cd well work with Vista. It might be best to try and just use the Drivers, Utilities, and Software from the the creative download site. You also must want to make sure that you manually uninstall the sound driver from the computer when upgrading. I overlooked this very simple fact recently. It is not hard to overlook it either. The easiest way is to go into the Device Manager and select sound, then uninstall from their. You should or might even have to restart the computer after doing so before you try to install the new driver and software.

  • Lock ups and sound looping!

I remember reading something here about people having trouble with their systems locking up and then getting a loud static noise then a sound loop when playing games.
I am getting this about 2-3 times a night now and it is driving me nuts, I do not have temp problems of any sort and I have all of the latest drivers for everything on my system.
      Any ideas?
    Specs in sig

Set your PCI/AGP Freq to 66.66/33.33MHz.

  • My downloaded text sounds do not show up under the sounds tab in settings after installing 8.1.1. can someone help me please?

i downloaded a couple text tones and since installing 8.1.1, they will not show up under the sounds tab. in fact, they do not show up in my recent purchases on itunes, but when i go to buy them again, it says that i have already bought this tone. I just want to use the tones i paid for as the tones on my phone. not asking much.... thanks for the help. i hope someone can help me get the tones working. thank you.

This was happening to me too but only for some of my songs. I have a mac so I dunno about PCs, but for most of my ringtones I had to create an ACC version in itunes to make them short enough then turn that into a m4r and those all worked fine. But if the song was already short enough and I didn't create an ACC version and just turned the original into a m4r, then it wouldn't appear in my itunes.
so if you're on a mac:
    1. go to get info, options, pick when you want the song to start and end.
Has to be pretty short to work, 30 second or less is good
if it's already short enough that's fine
    2. right click and click 'create ACC version'
a copy with the length you put in will appear, drag that into a folder or whatever and just type in m4r where m4a would be
still make an ACC version even if it's the right length
    Hopefully this helps someone else.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Loading sound clips in my swing application

I have searched all the forums, din't find what i want.
I have many small sound files to be played in my application. Even on mouse Pressed, Drage etc etc....
Now I was looking for a better way of Loading the Sound files in memory as the application starts.....
If I use the Clip Interface of javax.sound and initilize them and open a stream, invoke the open() method, and store it in hashmap. So that when ever i need that file i will lookup for that clip and trigger the start() method which actually plays the sound. IS the approach the right approach, will not the Cip object keep the IO handle open, I have nearly 40 Clips to be loaded.
Can any one suggest me the better way of implementing this.
    TIA
    Zoha

As far as I know, there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
Check it in the later releases of JDK.

  • Help with sound to LCD TV when using HDMI

I would love any assistance with a problem I am having. I have a new mac mini with a 40" Proscan LCD. I am using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and am getting great video - 1080. My issue is that via Keynote I need to get sound to the LCD TV. It is coming through the mini speaker - what do I need to do to get the sound over to the TV? Any assistance would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The user guide which came with your TV should cover the issue in the different connections available for your unit.
DVI is video only. HDMI is audio and video. If you are using an adapter to connect DVI to HDMI there is no audio because of this. So to connect a Mac mini with a DVI to HDMI adapter you will also need an audio cable to run the audio from the mini's audio outport to an audio inport on the TV. This is why I refer you to the user guide for your unit, because it should point out the correct port to use on the TV, as well as point out if you have options for using analog or digital audio. The mini's audio ports can do both.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter problem: no sound.

I couldn't find a more suited thread to discuss my issue so, this can be moved in deemed necessary. I recently purchased a DVI cable, seen below, but all I can get is the video to work. When I use the appropriate yellow cable for sound, the TV won't pick it up. It really seems like this is something that can't be fixed, but I figure it is worth asking about. Thanks.

The yellow cable is likely not an audio cable, but an S-Video cable, useful for some projectors that don't have a VGA or DVI port, or many TVs which only support S-Video. If you want audio separate from the computer, most speaker systems at least support RCA Red/White left/right channel sound into the 1/8th inch audio port found on most Macs. Some Macs and sound software as outlined here offer additional channels for sound:

I've never seen a yellow colored cable used for audio.

  • How to connect sound or audio to my tv using hdmi adapter. I tried to connect thru sound settings but my tv is not found.

how to connect sound to my tv set using hdmi adapter. Im using 2009 macbook pro 13". I went to sound settings then output and it shows internal speaker built- in, it wont locate my tv set. pls. help, thanks

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.
Check your MacBook Pro model year against the list in this Apple tech note:

  • What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

    I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

i have one of the old macbooks and wish to hook it up to my tv. do i need a mini dvi to hdmi adapter plus a 3 rca phono lead with a jack for the sound. please help as im useless at this stuff. cheers

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.
