No sound on youtube or any other webpage

When I go to a website such as youtube.com or any other site that plays sound, it only plays through the speakers on my monitor. The speakers in my monitor do not work very well, so i bought a Edifier Surround Sound System. The surround sound works with
my Windows Media Player but not with webpages that play music or videos. I've already went through my Internet Options and the multimedia settings are checked, nothing is muted. Im so frustrated! Help!

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.
Did it work before? When did this issue begin to occur? If it works before, system restore can be under consideration.
Please go into Internet Options>Advanced tab scroll down to Multimedia and make sure that "Play sounds in web pages" is check, click Apply/OK.
If it is already checked, uncheck it, click Apply/OK then go back and recheck it, click Apply/OK.
Meanwhile, does the sound work in the following website?
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/windows-7/videos-tours.aspx
Meanwhile, it seems you have two output devices, please go to control panel-> sound->under playback tab, set the other device as default to test
the issue.
Best Regards
Magon Liu

Videos won't play.  Not YouTube or any other videos (just started today).  I also have no sound, keypad clicks, shutoff click, etc.  Are these common failures for a three year old Gen 2 iPad?

For the issue with the videos that will no longer work, try closing all apps and then reboot the iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
For the issue with sounds, you have system sounds muted.
Check the side switch above the volume rocker on the side of the iPad. Flip it the other way and see if you get sound from the apps, keyboard clicks, etc.
If not, double tap the home button to bring up the task bar at the bottom. In the task bar swipe all the way to the right. Look on the far left side and see if there is a speaker icon. If there is, tap it and see if the sounds on apps come back. Then tap the home button.
You can change how the side switch works to either lock screen rotation or to mute system sounds. You can go to Settings>General>Set Side switch to Lock Rotation or mute. If you choose mute, the switch will turn off apps sounds. Otherwise you use the task bar as described above to mute those sounds.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Getting sound to load on any other computer

I've never really been great at sound in flash, because it
always struck me as being fairly complicated, but this is the first
time it's legitimately not worked for me. I used the following
    code:
    var soundthrust:Sound = new Sound();
    soundthrust.loadSound("cannister_loop.mp3", false);
    var soundhit:Sound = new Sound();
    soundhit.loadSound("explode_4.mp3", false);
to load two mp3s and later play them as sound effects when
certain things occur (one's when the user presses a key, the other
when a spaceship collides with the ground. Unfortunately, these
sounds do not play on other computers, as I have loaded the
executable file published through flash to the web here:
    http://valinet.com/~sheldon/climateorbiter.exe
I even tried uploading the mp3s to the same folder online,
assuming they might not be included in the executable, but alas,
there is still no sound. How to I get sound to play on other
machines? Is there a different way to create sounds (I can use
wav's or anything else if those work better) or a different way to
publish the flash document (although I dislike how viewing normal
documents in browser lets the user see the area around the stage,
unlike an exe) that will make the sound work? Thanks for the help,
    and sorry I'm a bit of a n00b.

    Thanks!
Ok, I looked at it again.
To be able to control volumes of sound objects separately you
need to attach each object to a separate movieclip, otherwise your
volume control for the thrust sound will also affect the
explosion sound. When you release the up arrow to let the lender go
    down
the thrust volume goes to zero so the explosion sound can't
be heard either. Secondly, if you don't use a preloader and someone
pushes the arrow keys for the thruster before the thrust
sound is completely loaded from the server you can get a missing
    sound.
That doesn't happen on your local computer because the sound
loads so quickly. The slower loading of the external sounds across
    the
    Internet makes a big difference.
Either add a preloader or import the sounds into the library
and use a linkage name and attach sound instead. Since you are
    short
on time, that's what I would do.
Also the two mp3 files are pretty small.. 47k and 25k so it
won't add that much to the file size.
    1) import canister_loop.mp3 into the library
    2) right click on the sound in the library
    3) choose 'linkage' and give it a linkage name like
    'thrustSound'
Make sure 'Export for Actionscript' and 'Export in Frame 1'
    are selected
    4) import explode_4.mp3 into the library
    5) give it a linkage name of 'explosionSound'
    6) create two empty movieclips to attach the sounds to..
this.createEmptyMovieClip("one",10); // create clip 'one' at
    depth 10
this.createEmptyMovieClip("two",11); // create clip two at
    depth 11
    7) attach the sounds to the movieclips...
soundhit = new Sound(one); // soundhit belongs to movieclip
    'one' now
    soundhit.attachSound("explosionSound");
soundthrust = new Sound(two); // soundthrust belongs to
    movieclip 'two' now
    soundthrust.attachSound("thrustSound");
Now when you set the thrust volume to 0 for the thrust sound
it won't make the explosion sound volume zero too.
Hope that helps. I tested it and it works fine. How come you
can't test it? Don't have Flash at home?
I put the file on my website for you to test it.. click once
to activate before using the arrow keys.

  • Firefox will not allow me to play any videos on youtube or any other websites. If I go on Google Chrome I can watch videos.

It's not just youtube but any sites where I want to watch tv shows or movies also.

  • Cannot hear any sound from WMP, youtube, or any other videos

I use a Vista SP2 HP Pavilion dv6 laptop.  Yesterday suddenly, all sound died on me.  The previous day, I had downloaded flash videos from a website called www.auditchannel.tv (this is a website run by the Institute of Internal Auditors, a
global organisation), and was able to hear the sound.  I muted the speaker at that time.  Yesterday, I tried to listen to the same flash videos after unmuting the speaker, but could not hear any sound.  Tried playing videos on Youtube, other
videos that I had downloaded earlier, but even there no sound was audible.  Then tried playing my mp3 files on windows media player but got the error message saying "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional
    assistance, click Web Help."
I've tried everything listed on Microsoft Support sites.  This includes:
    i) going to Device manager and ensuring that all the sound devices are showing as working correctly, and all related drivers are uptodate
ii) downloading Microsoft Fixit exe files for AudioPlayback and WinMediaPlayer, running the exe files, which reinstalled WMP...
but the problem was not resolved !
Would appreciate your help to fix this issue.
One more point - Day before yesterday night, some automatic updates were downloaded by Windows Update overnight, and when I woke up my machine the following morning, I noticed that it had actually shut down and restarted.  But it seemed that the auto
update files had not been fully installed.  So, yesterday night, I ran the Windows Update manually, and installed all the pending updates fully.  Not sure if this sound problem could have been caused by this event - ie. partial installation, then
running Windows Update again ??  The auto updates were the following:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista
    Security Updates for Windows Vista...various
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - December 2013
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 for Windows Vista
ZTEMT Corporation - Bus Controllers and Ports - ZTE...various
Synaptics - Input - Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
    Definition Update for Windows Defender

The internal speakers started working after uninstalling the sound drivers and restarted the machine, after which the system reinstalled the High Definition Audio Device driver, which was hitherto being used for the Headset speakers.
Today, the external speakers (the ones used by the headset) stopped working. Both the internal and external speakers
have the same High Definition Audio Device driver. Both are showing "device is working properly", but when the headset is plugged into the two jacks (in and out), the sound does not come from the headset earpiece, but from the internal speakers (ie the loudspeakers).
    Any solution for this ?
My wife's machine has been having a similar, though not identical problem, since the last couple of weeks. In her
case, when the headset is plugged in, there is no sound at all, neither from the headset speakers, nor from the internal speakers.
Just to eliminate the possibility of the headsets malfunctioning, I tried using another headset, but with the same
    results as above.
All these audio problems started a couple of weeks ago, after a Windows overnight update, as detailed in my opening
    post under this thread.

Hi, thanks. Well the fact that you could see the animation means you have Flash Player Installed correctly and the latest version. However, I would like you to Use IE and go to Tools, Manage Addons. Then look for "Show"(very light text) and look in All Add ons for Shockwave Flash Object and make sure it is Enabled. It should also say vs 10.1.82.76. -->
    ***MINE IS: IE 10.0.32.18 ***
Then use FF(Firefox) and go to Plugins and look for Shockwave Flash vs 10.1.82.76 and make sure it is Enabled.
*** MINE IS: FF: Shockwave Flash 10.0.82.76  AND Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82 ***
I so not know if these answers (above) apply completely to my problem, they were very simular!
PLEASE Advise? I am not even sure if the problem is with Adobe... feeling stupid! -- Understanding all of this is difficult for me to absorb!
I would Appreciateany help you can provide, I haven't had sound in a long time. Other sounds from my file work fine.

    This is SO FRUSTRATING!
I have had no sound for a very long time now. Not your problem, mine! - I should have not waited in dealing with this!
Restarted the computer.. here is the current info. after reinstalling:
    From   http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Windows      Internet Explorer (and other browsers that support Internet Explorer ActiveX controls and plug-ins)      10.1.85.3
Windows     Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera (and other plugin-based browsers)     10.1.85.3

    Linux     Mozilla, Firefox, SeaMonkey     10.1.85.3
    Solaris     Mozilla     10.1.85.3
At least their all using the same version now, IE and FF were using different versions when I checked last time!
I also visited the website you suggested for checking my  Adobe settings, I found it interesting but have no clue as to what I am supposed to do there? I read the entire page,  and went through each of the different settings, but don't understand how that applies to my no sound problem!
***  I am also not getting any of the Windows start up sounds, or closing etc. Does this make a difference for helping to identify the problem / SOLUTION any further?
I read Microsofts help pages,  they suggested looking at my device manager, everything was okay there (so far).
I thought I had read in one of the Adobe Forums to check for Driver updates...? Do you know for which Drivers?
I did check the  Realtek website -  As I am using: Realtek Semiconductor Corp AC97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller  Dated:  12/28/2006   this date has to be wrong!

i have an ipod tough 3g and its like about 4 to 5 years old it works perfectly fine except the home button is abit messed up and the ipod sometimes crashes. but other than that everything is fine. so i was watching something on an app and then al of a sudden i dont see the video i can just hear it. i then think its just the app but when i go on youtube the same exact thing happens. you click to watch a video and you can hear it perfectly but you cant see anything. the screen is just black when u ONLY watch a video. this happened last night so yea.i really hope somebody can help me figure out how to fix this and whats wrongwith it:)
thanks for your time and help!
                                                                                                                                                       Noor .T.

When it goes black do a very short press of the button on the right upper side of the phone and the screen will reappear.  Make it a very short quick press.
OTOH, if you are using the speaker so you can watch the screen as you are talking when it goes dim touch the screen anywhere that it is blank and it will again go bright.  On long calls you have to repeat this.
Many folks have had the same problem you described and what I have told you is the best and ONLY way around the screen going blank during a call.

  • Safari problems.  not updating java or adobe flash.  now lost sound in youtube videos.   other apps and programs are fine as is Chrome.

How do I remove and reload safari?   Do I have to reload the operating system?

Install Flash Player in Safe Mode.
    Shut down the computer.
Press the power button. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be pressed as soon as possible after startup, but not before the startup sound.
Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo on the screen. Startup will take longer than usual.
Login to your account. Launch Safari.
    Install Adobe Flash Player.
Type in this address in Safari address bar manually.
        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Install Adobe Flash Player.
Once done, quit Safari and restart the computer from  in the menu bar.
Once back in to the normal mode, make sure that plug-ins are allowed.
    Safari > Preferences > Security > Allow Plug-ins.

  • Xine codecs installed. no video on youtube or any other site.

Using suse linux 13.1. Installed xine codecs. Firefox is aware of this according to the "tools -> manage content plugins" list, and "edit -> preferences -> applications" list. I am at a complete loss as what to do. I really need to get this sorted otherwise I am going to have return to windows which is not something that I want.

Flash Player is usually required to play videos on most sites, including YouTube. It looks like you already have the latest version installed (it's listed as "Shockwave Flash" in the Add-ons Manager, Plugins category). What happens exactly? Do you get an error message?
    * [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems]]
Alternatively, if you have the right packages installed, you should be able to play videos in HTML5 format. According to bug 972638,
The backend right now depends on the following gstreamer modules: gstreamer, gst-plugins-base, gst-plugins-good, gst-plugins-bad and either gst-libav or some 3rd party h264 decoder (I believe Fluendo has one, but there are also others).
If you meet the requirements, then to play videos on YouTube in HTML5 format, you can
    # Disable the Flash Player plug-in by setting Shockwave Flash to "Never Activate".
    # Install the following add-on.
    # Some insist that [https://www.youtube.com/html5 joining the HTML5 trial] also works, but it's never worked for me and others.
To play videos on other sites in HTML5 format, you can
    # Install Greasemonkey.
    # Install the ViewTube user script.
Note that not all sites have videos in HTML5 format, and those that do tend to serve only Flash videos to desktop browsers (which is why the above user script is necessary).
