No Sound! Only Headphones Work Sometimes!

My iPhone was having issues with the power button and this same headphone issues. So I swapped mid frames with an old phone. The power button issue was fixed but it still has the headphone/no sound issue unless someone calls me. The speakers still work fine it's just doesn't work for sounds from apps or texts, my phone just vibrates. I had heard this could be the phone thinking it's in a dock. I've cleaned the headphone jack, dock connector, blew in them, and any other suggestions on the interenet but it hasn't helped at all! I've ordered a new midframe to replace this one and was hoping that this will fix my issue. Does anyone think this will fix my issue?

I had got it from my friend a few days ago.?When I had restored the phone iTunes had asked to update that's the only time I've had to update it. As far as i know when he had the phone he didn't have this issue.

what the hell is going on??i tried anything but doesn´t works

Is "Do not disturb" activated in the Settings?
Did you try to set up the phone as new device without using the latest backup?
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Also try these steps:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • [Solved] No sound (only headphones) on Thinkpad X200 Tablet

A few years ago, I installed Arch on a Thinkpad X200 Tablet, and everything was fine until a few day ago the HD had to be replaced. I was happy with system and the only think I remember being a headache was the touchscreen.
With the new HD, I decided to reinstall and not keeping config files, for a complete fresh start. One of the first things I did was setup sound, as it was really easy and worked just out-of-box with ALSA. After that, I installed some apps and the DE (Gnome this time, I've been previously working with only a WM, Awesome). I remeber even watching and listening a flash video with no problems.
Today, I keep installing some tweaks: GDM, laptop-tools, HDAPS, setting a console font... and suddenly, I noticed sound was not working anymore. Looked at alsamixer, and everything looks fine. Booting on init level 3 the problem persists, so it's not a Gnome issue. I tried blacklisting the more recent modules and daemons, but no sound. I tried plugging some headphones, and hey, the headphones work!
After reviewing the Arch wiki, Thinkwiki, googling, and trying several workarounds (most of them settings at modprobe.conf, and unmutting everything), I'm still with no sound, and very puzzled for the situation. I would greatly appreciate any help on this, or any clue to keep researching.

Hola joseperezc, thank you for the recommendations.
    Installing alsa-oss -> Nothing changes.
    pcspkr is loaded by default:
    $ lsmod |grep pcspkr
    pcspkr 1367 0
I also tried blacklisting it, but no results.
    I also tried this conf:
    $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
    options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel model=auto
    options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
    But still no sound.
    Btw, atm I have:
    $ pacman -Qs alsa
    alocal/alsa-lib 1.0.24.1-1
An alternative implementation of Linux sound support
    local/alsa-utils 1.0.24.2-1
An alternative implementation of Linux sound support
I also tried muting the SPDIF channels (I read that sometimes if they are enabled, the conflict with analog output), but no changes. And the sad thing is that it was working before... I'm thinking on uninstalling everything step by step...

  • Why does my sound only come on sometimes when i get to the log in screen for World of Warcraft?

    Product: HP Pavilion dv9628nr
    Operating system: Vista
Error Message: (i dont know if it is an error message) "No Audio Output Device Installed"
All I did was play the latest content for World of Warcraft (Patch 4.3). I hit the mute button and it turned red. I hit "exit" and "exit now" after i was done playing and it took a long time to exit. After it was back to the very familiar screen with all the icons the sound was gone. The mute button was blue after a restart, then it started saying i didn't have a sound card when i tried looking for it. The next day i turn on my laptop and and the mute button is red when it's starting up. After it was done I unmute it and sound worked fine, but for a while. After that the sound only comes back on a few rare occasions when i get to the login screen of world of warcraft. Then after a while of walking around doing nothing, the sound is gone again, but the mixer is still there (the mixer disappears after i restart). It also doesn't let me successfully uninstall the sound driver. I restart and go to reinstall the driver on the website, but during the download it says that it's already installed and if i want to overwrite, when i hit "yes to all" the lap top beeps LOUDLY, and says the installation failed because it didn't find the device. What's going on?

The boot ROM is static unless Apple issues a firmware update. I just checked and they never released any such updates for the eMac. Without a firmware update available, I know of no way to overwrite the current version.
What did the serial number check show? Don;t post your serial number, just whether it fell within one of those ranges.
The logic board issue was specifically bad capacitors. Look at some of the pic posted here:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/gdegagne/EMacCapacitorReplacement#
Open your RAM door on the case bottom and look inside. The third picture in the web site is the view with that door open. You can see only two of several possible bad caps through the RAM door but, if those two are leaking brown goo like those in the image, I think you will have found your problem.
I just realized you are in Tacoma. That makes the closing of the repair place I mentioned all the more sad, as your shipping costs to Eugene OR would be much less than for an eMac owner living several states away. Heck, you could have driven it to Eugene!
Really, I'm not in the habit of preaching 'gloom and doom' but, in your case, we need to deal with the logic board issue first to be able to provide you with worthwhile help should your computer not have the "bad cap" problem. If bad caps are the problem, there is not much we can offer other than to refer you to Google to search for self-repair instructions, or to Apple Customer Relations (1-800-767-2775) to consult regarding a Repair Extension Program that was apparently shut off too early.

  • I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13 with no restore disk; it has OS 10.8.4 I believe there is something wrong with the OS due to I can not install flash player to view Youtube videos and the when we plug in a Bose headset the sound out will work sometimes

I bough a used Macbook Pro mid 2009 that came with OS 10.8.9 it didn't have a backup restore disk with S/N W8******66D
When trying to view some youtube videos; a window would pop up saying "it needs adobe flash player is required for video play back get the latest flash player" but after downloading the file and during installation would have errors and will not installed.....tried to reboot and install again.....but still the same.
The othe thing I had noticed is when using a good Bose headset with mic the sound output would noticed the headset and then switch from headset to Internal speekers and headset.....thinking that there might be something wrong with the plug in port of the computer or the headset.....the headset works with no issues on my iPad so there must be something wrong with the computer.....tried to move the plugin around the port but no change....while the headset is plug in can hear a short clicking noise and the sound would get lost and back again......but with nothing plugin to the port there is no issue with the sound or mic.
Thanks for your feed back......it looks like I have two different issues one is a software issue and the outher is a hardware issue

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • IPAD Sound gone , Headphone works Please suggest

Suddenly my IPAD sound is gone , None of the application is giving any sound , But when i plugin the Headphone it works .
I went to the Apple store and showed the  IPAD and they said the Speaker is blown out . and to fix the issue they will charge 300$
But i am having the hard time to beilive it ,as i was researching on the GOOGLE and found out if you have some dirt or something in the charging hole it may cause the sound to be gone , i tried to clean it and yes it was back for some time it showed the Volume control in the task bar (controler)
but again it went off after i played it for minute and two .. .and after that i cleaned a lot and it never came up .
I tried reseting the IPAD rebooting several time and nothing works ...
seems like i was robbed .. i bought the IPAD for 600$ and now as new ipad is cooming 500$ they are asking me to pay 300$ to repair it .
I feel like its better to avoide expensive apple stuff if there is no gaurantee .

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • No speaker sound. Headphones work, but not speakers.

This problem is driving me crazy.  I simply cannot get speaker sound.  I've even used recovery discs to return to original factory condition.  My computer is six months old, HP Pavilion dv6 3163cl.
    Please help!!

Do you get sound from the speakers in any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not games/notifications ? If you do then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • My iPhone 4s has no sound. Headphones work and Siri makes sound. Any ideas?

iphone 4s. Makes no sound. i can hear through headphones. Siri does make sound through speaker. I've done the factory reset but no change.

we've made sure the switch is not on silent. one more tidbit, when pressing the volume buttons the word Volume appears on the screen but the volume bars do not appear.

  • Internal speakers suddenly will not unmute.  My headphones work, and there is a red light coming from the headphone jack

I put my volume on mute a few weeks ago, and I don't know if I have used it again since then or not, but now the volume will not unmute.  There is a red light glowing out of the headphone jack.  Sound through headphones works.  I've tried updating and restarting my computer.  Help?

    No, not forceful - gentle.
    A PRAM-reset might also help:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Try this a few times.

  • Main speaker stopped working. Phone does not ring, sound only through earpiece/headphone. What to do?

main speaker stopped working. Phone does not ring, sound only through earpiece/headphone. What to do?

I spoke to the reseller today and they aggred to exchanged it. They didn't elaborate on the actual cause but thought that it had to be a hardware issue.
It could either be the issue that Euvix suggested or it could be as simple as the outer speaker is simply not working.
Anesi, did you use the phone before the upgrade? Looking at what you've written I take you didn't so I would go back and get it exchanged.

    Absolutely!
If you are taking your $500 electronic device to the beach, I recommend you get a case that completely seals the iPhone from the elements (ie. waterproof).

  • Sound only works on headphones?????

I can only hear sound through my headphones. I used to be able to hear sound out of my built in speakers. I tried going to system preferences then sound and output. It said im using a digital out. Can someone tell me how to get sound without headphones or change my output selection to internal speakers???

Do y meand the speaker does not work?
    If so:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • Headphones stopped working after update, sound only on left side.

I have a good set of Bose headphones that have worked great for my MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPod. I noticed after I updated the software for my MBP, sound would only come out of the left side of the headphones. I checked for mono vs. stereo, balance, all the other stuff I could find, but had no luck in finding a fix. I gave up and just used the headphones for with my iPhone and iPad...until I updated those to iOS 8.2 and the same problem happened: sound only through the left side. The headphones still work with other non-Apple devices and even with other apple devices not upgraded to the most recent OS.
Any suggestions on how to fix? Not a fan of my $200+ headphones being useless now just because of a software update.

    Try a NVRAM reset:
