No sound or video through universal dock

My IPod Touch 4th Gen will not work in the Universal Dock.  I have purchased Apple cables.  No sound or video through my tv.  Can anyone please tell me how to fix?

I was using just a standard A/V component cable alone with my classic ipod and it worked fine, but since i have purchased the new Ipod touch I was only able to get sound through to the tv with the addition of a dock and standard AV component cable.  Purchased an apple component AV cable hoping this would fix problem and hooked it up to my ipod touch and dont get any audio or video now.  I am trying to play movies that i have downloaded onto my ipod touch.

  • S-Video with Universal Dock

    Hi,
I plan to order the 5G iPod and Universal Dock tonight. I will want to be able to play photo slideshows (both photos and sound), and videos, through my TV. To do this, I plan to place the iPod in the Universal Dock, then connect the Dock to the TV by a S-Video cable. As I have read that this method gives a clearer/better signal compared to using the Apple iPod AV cable.
Is this all I will need? Will both video and audio work/transmit to the TV via the S-Video cable? I'm assuming I won't need my laptop there either, as from what I understand, that set-up would be completely stand-alone...?
If a S-Video cable is all I need, can anyone recommend any manufacturers? I can not find an Apple S-Video cable on their online Store. There is a Belkin one though.
Could I get away with buying a bog standard S-Video cable from a local store, for say a few pounds?
    Thanks in advance.

Oh, drat! So you can either use just the iPod AV cable, which transmits both video and audio, from the iPod's headphone port to the TV, or...
... you can use the AV cable and an S-Video cable (in which case you also need the Dock with you)? With this second option, does the S-Video connection override the AV's capabilties to transmit video - so the AV cable is purely being used to transmit the audio??
Sorry to sound dumb, I have no experience with connecting an iPod to a TV.
Basically, what I want to know, is what I require to connect my 5G iPod up to my TV, to view photo slideshows and videos (both video and audio) - in the best/highest quality format possible. As I said above, I will be purchasing a Universal Dock.
Thanks for your help and quick reply.

  • IPod Sound Problems - Through Universal Dock

When my iPod is docked to my PC for charging it generates bleeping noises which mess up the sound of any playback.
Examples below are recorded from the Line Out of the iPod dock (which is usually connected to the aux in on my speakers) , The dock is connected to the PC by USB (The problem is exactly the same with firewire).
    Noise audible whilst charging http://www.chrismb.plus.com/Ed/charging.wav
Noise audible during playback - http://www.chrismb.plus.com/Ed/playing_connected.wav
Noise audible during playback - Firewire/USB cable is disconnected about 21secs in - http://www.chrismb.plus.com/Ed/playingconnecteddisconnected.wav
I don't have a clue why it does this - but it means that to listen through the dock I have to stop it from charging.
    Any Ideas?

  • No Video via Universal Dock and Apple AV Cable 5.5g iPod

I recently tried outputting video from my 5.5g iPod via the Univrsal Dock and Apple's AV cable. When the iPod is docked, I get sound through the TV, but no video. If I move the AV cable to the headphone jack on the iPod itself, I then get Video and Audio. Does anyone have any insight into this? I am using the iPod specific AV cable and not the iBook AV cable like on other postings.

I am sorry that this seems to have gotten confusing. I hope this makes more sense.
Only iPod AV cable (RCA video, audio left, audio right) from Universal Dock to TV = No Video, Yes Audio. No SVHS cable from dock being used.
Only iPod AV cable from iPod’s headphone jack to TV = Yes Video and Audio. No SVHS cable being used.
Is the universal dock supposed to be used with an SVHS cable and Audio via the AV Cable for connection to a TV? I did not try that as my SVHS port is taken, but I might give it a whirl. (The video settings were set correctly to TV Out = On and NTSC.)

  • S-Video + iPod Universal Dock supposed to work, doesn't

According to this Knowledgebase article, I'm supposed to be able to get video out of my iPod Classic using an iPod Universal Dock and an S-Video cable. (Scroll to the end of the article.) Doesn't work. When I try to play video, the iPod just puts up the "connect a video accessory" nag screen.
The KB article is quite specific about this configuration. Is the article incorrect, or is there some way to make this work that I'm missing?

    I'm having the same problem.

  • Why no iPod w/Video 60GB Universal Dock Adapter for UK?

I've got a 60GB iPod with Video, which I use in two locations (home & work). As such, I have two universal docks.
While the 60GB iPod with Video came with a single universal dock adapter, I need another adapter for my other universal dock. Unfortunately, only the 30GB adapter is available for purchase on the Apple Store (UK version).
Anyone know why the 60GB adapter has slipped off the map in the UK? It's listed in the US store.
Alternatively, can anyone suggest a place that might sell them?

[I hate to do this.. but.. 'Bump..!']
So, has nobody else in the UK needed to buy a 60GB iPod w/Video Universal Dock Adapter?

  • No sound on my home audio system with universal dock

    Hi,
I have 2 docks: the iPod dock and the universal dock.
If I use the dock with my home audio system I have sound - clear and loud.
If I use the universal dock I have no sound.
Does the universal dock only work with a remote?

If the home audio system is the same, the cables are the same, the iPod is the same, and the settings are the same, than I would assume you have a bad dock.

  • How do you get sound through the dock connector to a PC or Mac?

Where I work they have blocked the Pandora website. (Along with just about every other online radio site.) They don't mind if we listen to music, as long as it's not streamed online through their network.
I have both a PC & a Mac on my desk.
What I would like to do is listen to my Pandora app from my iPhone by plugging the dock connector into a Mac or PC. This would keep the battery drain to a minimum & allow for better quality.
When I plug in the dock connector the phone starts charging & iTunes want's to sync. I can run the Pandora app, but no sound comes through the computer.
Does anyone know how to get the audio to come from the dock connector & play through the computers sound card?

    You have several choices:
    1. Composite AV Cable: has a dock connector on one end and USB, RCA line out and RCA composite video on the other. It also comes with an AC Adaptor.
    2. Component AV Cable: same as the Composite AV Cable but with RCA component video.
    3. Universal Dock: has a dock connector socket on it and a line out socket.
    4. iPhone 3G Dock or the (original iPhone Dock): same as the Universal Dock but designed just for the iPhone.
All you need is somewhere to plug the line out into.

  • 5g nano no longer plays sound through (any) dock!?

I recently got a brand new dock, and it is, without a doubt compatible, with the 5G nano.
It played out loud through the dock with no problems for a few weeks, but it suddenly stopped transferring the sound through to the dock the other day, and instead, now, it just plays through the external speaker on the actual iPod. I tried it through my friend's dock too, and the same thing happened.
This is all to do with the internal connection, because when it first happened, I found that if i wiggled it around in the dock and held it at a certain angle, it played. However, that only lasted a few minutes and then it just stopped playing through the dock altogether.
It's strange because it connects to the computer fine through the exact same slot, and I can transfer music fine.
Saying that...on the day ot happened, the song I had just transferred from the comp onto the iPod magically disappeared from the device. That was weird. So I had to put it on again. And it definately went on the first time; I saw it in the playlist.
Anyway, all I can think of is that I have 'dislodged' something inside the iPod when connecting it into to the dock, or i've 'pushed something out of place internally' maybe...because I have not been using the dock adaptor (the iPod doesn't fit inside the adaptor because it has a plastic case over it). So maybe i've pushed it too far down into the dock slot or something?
Can anyone tell me if they've had this problem too?
Or if so, how much would this kind of thing cost to get repaired? Or have I mucked it up so bad I may as well give up now and get a new one (unless I never want to use a dock again)?

I just purchased my 30gb video iPod, and am running into almost the exact same situation. The only difference is that I don't have to reset it. It just won't play a movie at all. It starts the little "timer" thing that clicks around, but then goes back out of the movie. I know the movie is a good download, because I can watch it from start to finish within iTunes.
Anyone got any ideas? I really don't want to stay on hold for 1-2 hours waiting on a person to talk to with tech support!

  • No video using S-VIdeo cable and Universal Dock

We tried using our Universal dock and my husband's Video iPod to view iTunes downloaded shows on our TV for the first time, and despite trying two different S-Video cables, we weren't able to get video (sound worked). Of course the warranty was up three weeks ago.
Any suggestions? Is it worth buying the special Apple video cable?
    Thanks,

I had experience where I was getting only audio, reseated the iPod and got video.

  • IPhone & Universal Dock - No video out after resume from pause

OK - original 16GB iPhone, latest universal dock and Apple Composite cable, hooked to a 42" Sony LCD TV. iPhone is at latest revision.
Used to be that if I used the remote to pause a video, I could wander off, make a cup of coffee, and when I came back, even though the iPhone was locked, I could press play on the remote and carry on where I Ieft off. Recently though, when I try to resume from the paused state, I get sound but no video and I have to walk over to the docked iPhone, unlock it, and then I get video out.
I can only assume that this bug was introduced (or the previously working feature was removed) by a software update. Whatever the cause, it is a pain.
The cynic in me would assume that it is Apple's sneaky way of reducing the feature set to below the minimum expected so as to drive users to buy an Apple TV. The optimist in me assumes it is a bug and it CAN BE FIXED IN THE NEXT RELEASE!
    Anybody else experienced this issue?

I also believe this is a bug, but I found a workaround. I after starting the video you press the wake-up button, the iPhone screen goes off, but the video keeps playing. Now if you pause using the remote, you can also resume using the remote without having to unlock the iPhone.
The weirdest thing about this is that after doing it once, you can unlock you iPhone and be able to pause and resume as expected. As soon as you change the video (that is, you turn the video out off) the iPhone forgets what he just learned and doesn't resume from the remote again.
So as a rule I always turn the iPhone screen off after starting a video. So I'm able to use my remote nicely. I hope this works for you too... and that it gets corrected in the next SW version!

  • Will apple universal dock improve sound quality?

I use RCA plugs to hook up my ipod touch to my home stereo. Will adding an apple universal dock improve sound quality?

I've a 5th generation iPod 80 GB, the Composite AV cable, a Universal Dock, an Apple Remote, as well as a traditional headphone-jack-to-stereo-RCA cable I got from Radio Shack.
When I connect the Composite cable directly to the iPod, and then from there to my TV (no dock), videos play on the TV (with sound) and the iPod screen stays blank (as expected, since it re-directed the video to the TV).
When I connect the Composite cable to the dock first, then dock the iPod, I get USB power to the iPod, but the iPod does NOT see the TV - when I try to play video, the video displays on the iPod's screen instead. Also no sound. The Apple Remote works fine, however.
When I remove the Composite cable, connect the headphone-to-stereo-RCA to the 'line-out' part of the dock, connect that to a stereo, and dock the iPod I get sound, but of course no video. My Apple Remote still works as well of course. An interesting side note is that despite being labeled 'line out', I need to crank the volume to max for the sound to work correctly (a 'line out' should not be affected by the volume setting).
So... the problem appears to be the Dock. I'm gonna take my set-up down to an Apple store and see what they can do for me.

  • What do i get with the component video cable and "new" universal dock?

I've got the component video cable and the original universal dock. it doesn't seem to want to pass audio/video. do i have to have the "new" universal dock to pass the signal? i realize i can just hook up my 3G to the cable directly, but i am in the process of building a small home theater and i want to have a dock i can set my phone in. i like the idea of being able to use a remote as well.
also, what signals get passed. do you see everything as you see it on the iPhone screen? do you see album art on the tv? can you move through iPod menus with the remote looking at the TV?
    thanks.

You only see the video of the TV show or movie you are watching. You don't see album covers or any navigation. If you are playing music there is no video, just audio. You can also see photo slideshows.
You have to start the video on the phone. The remote will pause/play the video, change the volume out of the phone, move forward/back chapters of video, move forward/back songs playing or go fast forward/reverse of songs and video. There is no navigation of your songs/videos via the remote.
