No sound or volume control in some apps

Hi,
Recently (last fews days) I have noticed that sound is not working in some apps. Also the volume up/down buttons do not seem to work in these apps either - the onscreen volume level widget does not appear.
The issue is usually video related content such as the sky news app.
Not an issue system wide as the native video app works. so does air video.
I have restarted the ipad. also tried updating to latest firmware yesterday but issue persists.
any assistance appreciated.
Jago

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound. Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • How do I get back sound or volume control that vanished as I was reading Canterbury Tales?

    Can you tell me how to get back sound or volume control that mysteriously vanished as I was scanning Canterbury Tales? I still have it for other sites. Any help appreciated.

    What is the operating system?
    In Windows Vista and Windows 7 it is almost identical.
    right-click in an empty area of the taskbar and select properties.
    Select customize. Now find the volume listing and select
     show icon and notifications as in the image as shown highlighted.

  • Are there any apps for having seperate volume controls for each app if multiple apps are playing at the same time?

    Are there any apps for having seperate volume controls for each app if multiple apps are playing at the same time?

    I don't think you can do that the volume is universal, but maybe turn down the volumes in the app settings?

    I don't understand what are you trying to say, I don't have any volume control on HDMI output, only at stereo output.
    EDIT: It looks like I have to implemement this: http://alsa.opensrc.org/Softvol
    this is my .asoundrc
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 1
    device 3
    but I don't get how to configure it with softvol... any examples or suggestions?
    this is NOT working for me:
    pcm.hdmi_hw {
    type hw
    card 1 # <--- card number
    device 3 # <--- device number
    pcm.hdmi_formatted {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm hdmi_hw
    rate 48000
    channels 2
    pcm.hdmi_complete {
    type softvol
    slave.pcm hdmi_formatted
    control.name hdmi_volume
    control.card 1
    Thanks
    EDIT:
    after some time, I've found solution. It is really simple, I had to define default pcm.
    pcm.hdmi_hw {
    type hw
    card 1 # <--- card number
    device 3 # <--- device number
    pcm.hdmi_complete {
    type softvol
    slave.pcm hdmi_hw
    control.name hdmi_volume
    control.card 1
    pcm.!default hdmi_complete

  • A volume control for metro apps?

    I can't seem to locate any way of controlling the volume of most metro apps in the volume mixer. Is this something known? I searched the forums and couldn't find a solution. A friend says the same issues are there in Windows 8.

    Hi,
    I checked my Windows 8.1 system, really same problem. Please post this phenomenon through Windows Feedback.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • 1st Gen iPod Touch No Volume control

    The volume control in all apps and music just disappeared the other day, so I have no sound whatsoever. Didn't do anything different. The headphones are securely attached to the jack, I tried the "Reset all" option. Nada. What's next?

    Hi,
    Does "Reset All" include resetting your iPod?  Try here for resetting your iPod:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430.
    Hope this helps!

  • Brightness and volume control keys not working with windows 7?

    brightness, volume control and some other keys keys are not working with windows 7 with macbook pro retina. Can I fix it?

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    Have you installed Boot Camp drivers? You need them to make your computer work properly on Windows, and to use your function keys as Play or Pause, volume and brightness keys.
    To install them, follow these steps:
    1. Press the X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X.
    2. Open Boot Camp Assistant and tick only the option to download Windows support software.
    3. Windows support software will be downloaded and Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to burn it into a DVD or USB drive, so do it.
    4. Start into Windows, insert the DVD or USB drive and install Boot Camp drivers. Your Mac and your volume and brightness keys will be working after installing the drivers

  • Volume Control

    How do I get all the songs on my Nano to play at the same volume control? Some songs are almost too loud while others I can barely hear.

    Use the soundcheck feature to level out the volume somewhat.
    Apply it in iTunes using the edit/preferences/playback menu (Windows).
    iTunes/preferences/playback (Macs).
    Turn it on on the iPod using the settings/soundcheck/on menu.
    After applying it in iTunes, sync your iPod to reflect the changes made.
    There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively (at least in my opinion).
    For Windows there is mp3Gain.

  • Help! The App Store was telling me to update my apps so I did an 'update all'. Half way through they stopped and now I have some apps that are greyed out and I cants open them or delete them. What do I do?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hey Pagevc86,
    Thanks for the question. It sounds like you might have some apps that seem to be stuck on "Waiting." The following is a past discussion that dealt with a similar issue and may help you as well:
    App updates won't download on my...: Apple Support Communities
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4111336
    Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
    Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
    If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

  • Volume control device wont come on plz help me

    i have a problem BIG problem with my volume control. i cant get the green light to light up on the volume control for some reason. the subwoofer itself still works cuz i took it apart and hooked it up to another speaker system that i have and it worked perfectly. i think it might have to do with the board inside with the subwoofer. i tried to wiggle the wires a bit to see if there was a shortage but that didnt seem to be it. its not the fuse either cuz i replaced it and nothing still happened. i dont really know so if someone would help me out i would really apprieciate it.

    KA-Pow,
    No green lights on volume control means no power. My guess would be either the volume control or the power adaptor that's probably faulty since you have mention testing the subwoofer and it's fine. I would think it's more on the volume control. You're best off contacting support to have it repair.

  • A505-S6014 Volume Controls

    Two questions:
    1.  Is it possible to turn off the sound the volume control panel makes on the laptop? (the beeping sound when turning the volume up/down, for example)
    2.  Is it possible to have the the volume control panel lit up but have other LED features (satellite logo, trackpad light) turned off?  Right now I have them all turned off as it was the only I could the Satellite logo and trackpad light off)
    Thanks in advance.

    Satellite A505-S6014
    I don't know exactly which settings that model supports, but you may find the lights here.
       Start > All Programs > TOSHIBA > Utilities > HWSetup > Illumination tab
    You may find the beep on one of those tabs too.

    I have lost sound on my iPad in apps unless I use headphones ,does anyone know how to get sound back without them .I have used the mute volume on the bar at bottom of screen and the slider volume control there only shows when headphones are plugged in !
    I also tried resetting settings all to no avail ...I looked up some advice and watched utube video advice on how to fix without success..
    The volume control button on side does not work ,I got the iPad last August and wonder if it is a fault that means I must return it for replacement from where it was purchased ?

    The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
    So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
    As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?
