No sound, probably due to IDT Audio Codec

There i s no sound at my laptop. The loudspeakers are on, Windows says they are working fine. All the volumes are high, sound is not muted etc. But I have no sound anywhere. I uninstalled the drivers on IDT Audio Codec, reset the values in my bios to their original ones (if they even weren't to start with). I have been running the audioplayback diagnosis from windows. Moved back to old version of my registry but nothing seems to work.
I went through this forum and did what some of the people adviced but still it is not functioning. Although windows says that IDT Audio Codec is working fine, I get an errormessage Not able to play test tone (or that is the translation from Dutch). Also Windows Media player doesn't work and lands me on the page with error C00D11B1. Also playing a DVD doesn't work. And when trying to update the IDT Audio Codec driver, it says it is up-to-date. Also put all the sound settings (like sound quality to standard settings).
I think that I removed the driver when cleaning up with CCleaner so that is probably the reason. Also after checking with this forum I launched two driverpackages SP59291 and SP6355 but unfortunately that they didn't work and they probably not the right version for my setup. Alhtough the letter of the two did bring back windows system signals during start-up etc.  The current version of the driver is 6.10.6329.0. I checked the HP-website to find the specific version for my laptop but couldn't find it, anyone any idea what I could do? Many thanks!

  • Sound recordin midlet and custom audio codec.

    Hello,
I'm working on a voice-mail application and I would like to use my own audio codec. (not because it's better than AMR, for example, but this way I can use my on codec on a large variety of phones that does not have a native sound compression engine).
Anyway the problem is that, not all phones supporting sound recording, supports RAW / WAV recording as far as I know. Is that true?
On the other hand, most of the phones supports WAV audio playback. Is that also correct ?
What do you suggests in this case?
    1. quit the project.
    2. do not use my codec; record sound in any format; decode audio data on server side and re-encode in a compatible format, depending the destination phone.
    3. find a list with phones and all supported audio formats, and restrict the usage of the application depending on that list (is there such a list available, at least for nokia, sony-ericsson, black-berry).

  • Recording distortion with IDT audio codec

I have 3 DV7s (2x 7250us, 1x 7259us).  They all have the IDT codec (6.10.6418.0) installed.  Using Windows Sound Recorder, recordings are badly distorted (sounds like old Single Side Band, but worse).  I have tried the various versions of the codec and have reinstalled the previously referenced version to no avail.  Recording is virtually useless.  I have tried 3rd party recording software... useless.  I have tried external mikes.  Same results.
I need a codec that I can record with.

Hi Curt2020, welcome to the HP Forums. I suspect with multiple notebooks doing the same thing, that it is probably performing properly. I do not know of a CODEC that will improve your recording performance. I have found a few pages with various tips which may help.

  • USB AUDIO CODEC PROBLEMS

A few days ago I bought an USB Microphone (Samson G-Track). I don't know why It doesn't work. When I select in Sound/Preferences/Input the "Usb Audio Codec" but It says that there aren't input controls in the device. I tested it at Garage Band but It didn't work. I thought that the mic was defective but when I tested it in my mother's pc (Vista) It worked.
It's says that you "plug and play" in Garage Band. I bought this microphone to record my music work at home.

    Hi Rhea91-
Your English is indeed very good
Are you plugging the Mic directly into a USB port on your Mac? Are you certain there are no Mac-specific drivers? "Mac compatible" can mean many things. Is the device OSX 10.5.2 compatible?

  • Loss of sound after updating IDT High Definition Audio Codec.

HP Support Assistant said a new IDT HI Def Codec driver was available so I downloaded and installed 6.10.6417.0 after which I have no sound output. I am not sure what driver version was installed before the update but I have since downloaded and installed 6.10.6330.0 and rebooted but still have no sounds. The device is enabled and Windows says it is working properly (which it isn't but then it is Windoz).
I am now totally at a loss as to how to proceed other than a clean install of Windows which for obvious reasons I would rather not do.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53281.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • L channel sound comes through both L and R speakers after installing IDT High Definition Audio Codec

I noticed a sound problem on my laptop. The R channel works as expected but the L channel is split between the L and R speakers. After checking several different possibilities I narrowed the problem down to the IDT High Definition Audio Codec that I downloaded from the HP driver support page for my notebook model and operating system.
I uninstalled the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and restarted. This forced Windows to resort to using its generic "HD Audio Device" default. When I did this the sound was equally split between the L and R speakers as I would expect - L channel 100% though L speaker, R channel 100% though R speaker. I then re-downloaded the IDT High Definition Audio Codec from HP (sp59654.exe), re-installed it, and restarted. Immediately the sound problem was back - while the R channel comes 100% though the R speaker, the L channel is split between L and R speakers.
Please note this has nothing to do with adjusting speaker "balance". Both L and R channel volumes were set to 100% while investigating this problem. It's definitely some sort of incompatibilty between the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and Windows 8 64-bit or the sound hardware in the HP Envy DV6.
    Here are my details:
    IDT High Definition Audio Codec
    Publisher: IDT
    Date: 8/19/2012
    Version: 6.10.6425.0
    Notebook
    HP Envy DV6-7200
    Windows 8 64-bit

Here is what I would recommend you trying. Go to device manager and uninstall the audio driver. Once it is uninstalled, go to the device manager toolbar and select "Scan for hardware changes". After it completes, reboot the computer. Once the computer is rebooted, test the audio and let me know if that helped.

  • No Sound after updating IDT High Definition Audio Codec on my HP Pavilion dv6-6154tx laptop

I recently ran Advanced Driver Update to check and updated my audio driver (IDT High Definition Audio Codec) on my Windows 7 laptop. However, after the update, every time I boot up the computer, there is no audio output. I checked the volume control options and they are all fine, showing "all devices are playing sound". But there is no sound. Even the 'test sound' option does not play any audio, although the computer says that it is working fine. I read some posts on this forum and came across an answer - to uninstall the current driver from Device Manager, and manually install IDT HD Audio Driver for Windows. This works and I am able to get back the sound. However, I have to do this every time I start my computer after shutting it down, and this is proving cumbersome. Can somebody please help me with this and suggest a solution? Thanks.

  • Re: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (NO SOUND PROBLEM)

    Hello,
I have found a thread on this topic for other HP laptops on the Support Forum and have tried some of the 'low level' solutions but without success.
    Here's the problem:
I have a Compaq 615 notebook running Windows 7.  When something is plugged into the headphones socket (e.g. external speakers or headphones) the sound volume is either extremely feint or zero with all the volume controls turned up to maximum.  This applies whatever software is playing the sound file (e.g. Windows Media Player or Audacity or a DVD).  However, the 'Test' sounds work ok in the headphones.  The on-board computer speakers work ok too.
Going into Device Manager>Sound (etc)>IDT HD Audio CODEC - says it's up to date.  Here's a screen shot of the panel:
I have downloaded the following from the HP site but haven't installed it as I wasn't sure if I should or how to (even after creating a restore point):
Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59291.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow thisand then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Start the notebook and let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.
