No Sound Production

Hello;
I am an experienced linux/unix user and I've never had this problem before, but I'm rather desperate because I can't find a solution, upon STW I came to realize that many people have this problem, but none have a solution applicable to my system:
Running Arch Linux with Enligtenment (e17) on an older (2005) Asus Laptop Intel core with Centrino. The webbrowser in question is Firefox 13.0 and I'm running a very recent version of Adobe Flash.
Upon trying to run multimedia, such as that found in Youtube or on online television network sites, I find that the video and everything runs fantastic, smooth, not choppy except when the buffering rate slows down, however absolutely no sound is produced by the machine, not through my in-laptop-speakers, or in my headphones. Other applications such as Gnome MPlayer and Adacious seem to be producing sound as normal. The problem may be that I'm running OSS instead of another sound, but I haven't seen any preferences on my enlightenment or Firefox which allow me to specify sound agent, so I don't believe that is the problem, as, like I said above, everything else is running great (note: along those lines I did have to set preferences to OSS, but that is done in my enlightenment settings now and I don't see any in Firefox which are to that effect, or to sound effect at all) This was a very long winded explanation of my situation and problem in hopes that it provides all the information necessary to offer me assistance.
Desperately trying to run sound;

Hi, I have an update.
Whilst testing out the Dropbox syncing side of things, I looked at my MacBook and the piece of audio I'm having trouble with and realised it's Apple audio, therefore not something I've imported myself. What prompted me, was that when I opened Logic on the MacBook I was asked to download additional content.
That was when it triggered the 'ahhhhhh, of course!’ moment.
So, I downloaded all available additional content onto the MacBook and then expected it to work. However, it still doesn’t play.
I can eliminate Dropbox syncing issues, as I copied the Logic project file from my home iMac onto the MacBook, and the sound still doesn’t come in - it’s simply not being picked up at all.
Heading to Logic Pro X > Download Additional Content shows that I’m fully up to date.
So the same file, on two different machines with full content updates on both copies, is still resulting in one piece of audio not playing back on the MacBook copy.

  • Sound production advice

right her i go so please bare with me.
im a film maker and like having awesome sound on my films etc.
i did a music production course a few years ago which taught me the very basics to Logic, so im looking for more advice on being able to reprocess the recorded audio through both hardware and software to make it all much more PRO really.
i got a 8 channel soundcraft mixer and a MOTU 828 FW soundcard and Logic studio
im looking for either some forums which i can find more info on connection of kit and what other kit i should use like gates, compressors,EQ, etc
any help would help, links, pics, etc anything really to make things better
    kind regards
    adam

My honest advice would be :Team up with an audio guy who knows what he's doing, and concentrate on film making.
Learning how to make good films and how to do good audio for films will keep you busy for a lifetime. Each of them, that is.

  • Leopard and Adobe CS3 Products. Design and Video Production a must read.

    Adobe posted this pdf. http://www.adobe.com/support/products/pdfs/leopardsupport.pdf
Should answer any questions on compatibility.
Web designers are safe if you use CS3. Studio 8, your out of luck.
InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3 is safe. CS2 your out of luck.
After Effects CS3 must use update.....slated for December.
Acrobat Pro 8, and any of Adobe video and sound production apps the same as After Effects.
    Regards,
    Ed

    Hello,
Thank you very much for the answers, but for me it is already to late. I tried to install Tiger again, to be able to install Adobe Photoshop CS3 and then upgrade, but my iMac won't boot from the Tiger DVD even though it starts from the Leopard DVD. I have no glue what I am doing wrong. I pressed the "D" key during the boot - as stated in my manual and nothing happens. The machine just start Leopard from hard drive again.
I also tried to insert the Tiger DVD while Leopard is running and then choose the Tiger installer, but it tells me, that it can not install on my machine. I do not understand anything.
As far as I understand from Adobe, there should not be any problem to install Adobe Photoshop CS3. Nevertheless it definitely does not install on my machine (only the "shared components").
    Kind regards,
    Cornelia

  • Improving Sound Quality, Drivers?

    Hello, I just bought a dv6-7007tx pavillon..
noticed the sound very metallic and crude...
would i be able to better the sound productions?
I have tried to search for "sound drivers" but cant get anything listed in the forums.
Please advise how to update the drivers of my notebook?
PS: in dell, there is a webpage where you enter your PC model and all latest drivers are updated there for downloading... do HP have this site please?

    Correct, both are the same

  • [SOLVED] Multiple sound cards don't work with Arch

Before you post, make sure you do not list any of these programs that I should use, to configure everything:
    alsamixer
    alsaconf
    kmix
    xfce4-mixer
edit: I need to specify what my default sound device is as I have 2 different sound cards, a Logitech ClearChat Comfort, and a TurtleBeach AK-R8.
    Websites of my sound products:
    http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/akr8/home.aspx

I use Windows for gaming (in virtualbox) on America's Army, so good audio is a must when you play against the best.
The reason I state that is because those lack the features I need. I am trying to find gnome-sound-properties and since I needed sound working very fast, and a distro that already has it installed, I am currently on Ubuntu (please do not harass me or insult me about this as I hate it very much and I need to get back to software development) since all I need to do is go to System > Preferences > Sound. Is a picture of what I am looking for:

Solved. all i needed to do was turn up the center and surround thing in alsamixer. works now in true 5.1

  • Creating 5.1 surround sound out of stereo audio

    Hi,
I'm new to surround sound editing, so for the past few weeks I've been searching through internet how to create suround sound for my movie. I have a whole movie already done in Premiere Pro 5 (every scene in it's own squence). In these sequences I have stereo audio clips that  create a complete stereo sound, but since this movie is going to go on film festivals I have to create surround sound.
Through my reasearch I came across many explanations of how to create it, but the more I read the more it confused me so I decidet to ask for help on this forum.
    1. Is it posible to create surroundsound directly out of stereo audio (I know that the sequences that you are working in has to be set to surround sound) that I have in first, second and third chanel, that have  surround sound controls above them in Audio mixer?
    2. I know that  in 5.1 chanels you can only inport 5.1 surround sound tracks. My question is, do I have to take each stereo clip, transform it in mono clip and then create a stereo clip out of that mono clip?
    3. Did I completly miss the whole concept of creating surround sound and that I would have to do it diferently?
    Thanks for helping out, Jaggarjack

To output to DD 5.1 SS, you will need an Encoder, like the Minnetonka Audio SurCode DD5.1 SS plug-in.
You can also use Audition (do not know about SB) to create 6-channel files (usually WMA w/ either 5, or 6 discrete channels, depending on how you handle the LFE). Still, to use such a set of files with Audio-Visual material, you will need an Encoder. Minnetonka Audio has others, like the SurCode DD 5.1 SS stand-alone and the DTS stand-alone.
If you have disassembled the original audio streams into mono sources, you can create faux 5.1 SS, and with a little work, it can be quite convincing. The 5.1 controls in a 5.1 Master Project, can be very useful for "creating" your sound stage. You can also use those to feed certain frequencies from other sources to the LFE, and to the Center channel. With good stereo in the Front speakers, you should already have a decent phantom Center, and can punch that up even more.
I would recommend starting with the Help File for "Surrond Sound," to get the basics down, plus the mechanics in PrPro. HERE is a little sample. You might also want to see the links in this PrPro-Wiki Search for more material.
The Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers' Recommendations for Surround Sound Production is useful paper.
    I recommend three books:
Surround Sound, Second Edition: Up and Running, Tomlinson Holman (cannot find my copy for ISBN)
Instant Surround Sound, Jeffery Fisher, CMP Books ISBN 1-57820-246-9
Basics of Video Sound, Des Lyver, Focal Press ISBN 0-240-51561-7
That would be a good start.
    Happy reading, and up-mixing,
    Hunt

  • MSI calls gt780 a "sound machine" but it has bad dpc latency and ground loop

Good quality sound on a laptop is governed by two things, freedom from ground loops and low DPC latency.
Ground Loop Hum: this occurs when manufacturers use poorly isolated power supplies (CHEAP POWER SUPPLIES).  How it manifests is when you plug your laptop into an external sound production system (Stereo or headphones or mixer, etc).  Well when you turn up the volume you will notice this weird humming/slightly screetching noise.  It often will change pitch as you move mouse etc.  Its a ground loop.  It comes from poor isolation and ALL PROFESSIONAL audio equipment is designed to eliminate this.  Even a cheap ghettoblaster is  But not this "sound specialized laptop."  Aweful.  You will know it is a ground loop because when you hear the noise unplug th epower supply to the laptop and Poof!  its gone.
DPC Latency  Where as ground loops will just give you poor sound output, DPC latency is a far more sinister problem for a person who is going to use a computer for professional sound.  It is related to something called an IRQ request and it occurs on laptops that are not designed to prioritize audio.
Download this tool and run it on your gt780.  http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml  You will note its mostly green but occasionally it will have red spikes.  Those red spikes represent audio drop outs so if your hope was to use this computer for professional sound capture or production (protools, abletone, cuebase).  Think again.  Those will be big "POP!!!!!"s when they occur during actual audio manipulation.
Sometimes manufacturers release firmware or drivers that help with DPC.  Lets pray but as for the ground loop.  That is not and will not go away unless they get it their hearts to use a proper power supply.  Shame on you msi for touting this as an audio laptop when its audio simply sucks crap.  Basically you threw a few loud speakers and you call it made for sound??? HARDLY.
Other then that its fast.  What a waste...

Ok, I have found out the "sleep mode" kicking in was one of the major culprits.  I dissabled that and latencies are a lot better.  No red spikes in over ten minute but not yet under any load.  If any one else is trying the program please post your results.

  • Firefox not responding to any changes, is "way" off...

So, I've got my sight built, fixed all issues with IE (as far as I know), but my site on Firefox is still completely jumbled.  In fact, over the last several weeks, as I've made changes and reposted on my server, Firefox hasn't "responded" at all and still looks the same as the first time I put it on my server.  It not only is not in my left side bar, main content, right sidebar structure, but some of my text is a whole other class then I made it, and the borders are missing around my LSB, MC and RSB.  And instead of the 915px width the site has, it is not constrained (you should be able to see how it is supposed to look on IE).
I hope the code below is helpful.  I need this site up asap, in full working order, so any help would be apprecaited.  Anyone know why it's totally different on firefox?  FYI, all my links are working, so it's all structure at this point. I realize that this is alot of code, but I don't know what else to do. Thanks for any avdvice/help and I apologize for my "newbieness", as it were.  I'm a businessman trying to build my own site, and believe it or not, am enjoying this.
    My site is, monkpromotions.com

    Hello guys,

Every time I want to start the Software it quits with the error message that there is a problem with C++ File  (\...\...\Src\Win\WinPathUtils.cpp -504) that seems to be corrupeted.
Here some sys-spec for further Infos:
    Asus P6T WS
    core i7 920 @ 2,67 GHz
    6GB DDR3-RAM
    Nvidia Quadro FX 3800

I attach the error-log, because i don't have a screenshot at the moment.

OK....does anyone have an answer for this?  I have contacted Adobe and receive no anwer yet.  I am running Vista with latest SPs.  My CS4 applications are on a Quad 64 bit machine with plenty of RAM and storage.
I was using Premier Pro to edit a project and it suddenly began to re-conform and index the timeline clips.  Everything at worked fine previous.  Also when trying earlier to make a sub-clip the sytem kept looping the sound track with a small portion of the file.  Then the system froze up.
After restarting I get a splash screen and then the debug screen that indicates [..\..\Src\Win\WinPathUtils.cpp-504].  At that point the splash disappears and nothing starts.  Since this I have checked the following other Adobe products:  SoundBooth, After Effects, Media Encoder, and they have the same issue.
This is rediculous I have used Avid Liquid Edition for years and not experienced anything as frustrating as Adobe video/sound products.  If I did not have so much money invested I would dump them in an instant.  I am traveling and don't have my Liquid computer with me so I am stuck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I don't know where to start other than shutting down and re-booting which did not help.

  • Advice on audio interface  and monitors for I-Mac

My setup is a basement studio. Mac pro, logic pro, Mackie control, motu 896, unitor 8 channel midi, line 6 pod xt pro, lexicon mx 400. Allen & heath board 16.2 wizard, Amps, Drums, Mics. The list goes on. Networked with my I-Mac in my office 2 floors up. So I copy My project folders to my I-Mac. Im very comfortable in my office so I thought I would do my final mix and master in my office. So my question is what would be a decent 2 channel audio interface no midi, and near field monitors maybe 3 to 4 feet away to mix and master. Reasonable. Thanks Bill

I'm quite impressed by Apogee Duet. 2-channel & no MIDI (still does provide some control function with its single knob) which sounds like it suits what you're looking for. Very simple & elegant design, the sound quality is supreme considering its cost.
Near field monitor of my choice is KRK V8's. Nice natural sounding set of monitors. In comparison to competitors at the price range, these sets 'breathe' & provide a bit more air in sound production without exaggerating any particular freq.
When it comes down to choosing monitor speakers, go to a local pro audio shop & try out a bunch so you can compare. Just remember to bring test CD that you know well what it should sound like.
    Good luck!

  • Looking for a comprehensive place to learn FCP from ground up

I am from the radio side of the tracks, doing sound production on PCs for the last 20 years, but I have now started my own mobile sound and lighting service *which I had done on the side of radio for the past two decades
My wife and I have decided to add video production to our services when we can finally use the FCP software efficiently and professionally:)
I am just looking for a good resource to get up to speed with these programs. I bought the FinalCut Pro 2 Upgrade kit and I had FC4 from years ago to upgrade from. I am also using Logic's entire suite on a current Mac Pro.
So...we have the hardware, we have the software, but lack all of the knowledge. My wife and I are sponges for new hobbies and we are both computer savvy and highly efficient in sound editing programs like Cool Edit Pro/Currently Adobe Audition...SAW, some Dalet and a ton of Prophet/Next Gen experience.
Anyone that could point me to a great website (I realize this one is phenomenal, but you guys are so far above my head) but it does lack an ABC type tutorial. Also, a good publication...There isn't much in the Mac section at Barnes and Noble and nothing on FCP.
Thanks and I will be a frequent looker on the forum for a while.
    Jeremy and Tracey

If you prefer books, the Apple Pro Training Series is, I think, the way to go. There are some duds in the series every now and then but all the Final Cut Pro books I've read are nice. Like many books on the subject, they include footage for you to work with.
If you're into video-based training, I'm a big fan of Ripple Training. I'd have no clue how to really work Color otherwise.

  • Create a beep at specific intervals

    Hello,
I was only introduced to LabView today and must create a program that will produce a beep sound at (random) intervals and then repeat the cycle for a behavioral experiment I am conducting.
In other words, I have to create something with the following trial pattern: 3s silence, 1s beep, 2s silence, 1s beep, 5s silence, 1s beep (repeat cycle).
I got as far adding the beep.vi and making the necessary adjustments according to this tutorial: http://www.ehow.com/how_12122458_create-sound-numbers-labview.html
but another issue I came across is the lack of synchronization between the Boolean function and the sound production from the beep (It will continue to beep after pressing "stop"). Additionally, changing the frequency values did not change its tone...and a single beep.v's frequency would not be adjustable for the trial pattern I have mentioned above.
I would greatly appreciate any help (visuals would be much appreciated as well). I am a complete newbie to programming and my ineptitude has been stressing me out all day.
    Thank you!!!!

    Hi unevolved,
Sorry, I forgot to add another question. May I ask what LabVIEW version that you are running on?
Based on what you mention on the first point: following trial pattern: 3s silence, 1s beep, 2s silence, 1s beep, 5s silence, 1s beep (repeat cycle), I believe you'll need to use something like a state machine. I believe this might explain about state machines: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/7595/en/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyJxNrgABsI.
I have created a rough program based on your cycles. The below screenshot is what i can think of based on your requirements. Presuming that you have read about the state machines from the link I have provided, I'll explain the code
Basically, I have created 3 states, cycle 1 (3s silence, 1s beep), cycle 2 (2s silence, 1s beep) and cycle 3 (5s silence, 1s beep). First and foremost, you'll need to create a basic state machine structure which consists of a enum (with the state names - http://labviewwiki.org/Enumerated_type), while loop, shift registers (which passes the value from the current iteration to the next) and case structure (each with their own state).
As you can see, I have a main case structure which controls if the loop operation and within it is the nested case structure which is the state machine itself. For each case, I have an array of enums (which I have specified the names to be Silence and Beep) and a for loop which contains the case structure which does both silence and beep.
As you noticed that the for loop has a indexing tunnel. This allows the for loop to run 2 iterations. On the first iteration, the 1st index array: Silence will be as an input for the case structure and executes Silence case state. On the second iteration, the second index array: Beep will execute the Beep case state.
The below is the silence state for the 1st for loop iteration:
The below is the beep state for the 2nd for loop iteration:
For Silence, I have used wait(ms) to provide the pause before it goes to the next state "beep".
The whole operation will basically repeats from Cycle1 -> Cycle2 -> Cycle3 until you hit the stop button. If you hit the stop button, the main case structure will be as below:
Which should stop the while loop.
    Hope it helps.
    Warmest regards,

  • To know the basic

    Hi,
    Good afternoon,
I have some basic in ,Unix,C++ especially in Oops.
But I have so many basic doubts in C++.
I frequently heard the lines of Unix,C,C++.
    what they mean.
that is which c++ they mean, which C++ is compatable with Unix.
will you please give me the name and version.
Because I want to install that softwares in my pc.
Another one doubt is if any type of softwares what are they using for GUI.
In java there is Swing or AWT.
If I want to buy Visual Basic CD, no problem I buy MS-Visual CD.
If I want to buy Java CD the same.
But Now I want to install C++ in my PC(My PC is with windows XP)
I do not know which cd i have to bye.
Will you please help me to solve errors.
Though I have some basic in C++, I am in a confused stage,
I think your lines will help me to out from this confused circle and become high in C++.
I am a programmer in VB but not in CPP
    Thank you so much

Because I want to install that softwares in my pc.
Another one doubt is if any type of softwares what
are they using for GUI.There are a large number of libraries that you can use to develop a GUI. On Solaris, some of the more common ones are Motif, Gtk, Qt and wxWindows. I can vouch for Qt being a sound product, but the commercial licences are not cheap.
But Now I want to install C++ in my PC(My PC is with
windows XP)If you want to write unix software, you will have to install unix. You may be able to use some form of virtual PC like vmware, otherwise you will have to install Solaris and dual boot. This is beyond the scope of this forum.
Alternatively you can install a compiler on XP. If you want to write unix style software under Windows, then this is possible with cygwin. Otherwise there are numerous C/C++ compilers for Windows.
I do not know which cd i have to bye.You can download Sun Studio 11 for free. gcc is installed with the OS.

  • Urgent! Music player error/bug

my n95 8gb's music player has some kinda error. i downloaded a mp3 file, the artist name was ACDC. i renamed it to AC/DC, but the ACDC artist name wasn't deleted. i opened it, nothing was there. i tried to delete it, but a pop-up message says General: Feature Not Supported. Can anyone here help me with this? coz i have to sell my phone so i can buy an electric guitar. Please help..
    Regards,

This is a normal case with the phone
on firmware 3.08 you often get General System Error
on firmware 3.26 you would get an never ending Searching for Music
on firmware 4.13 you would freeze up your music playing by using the original head set after playing 2-5 tracks
I have to add that the music player is the major flaw in this phone with its series of bugs.  It has issues when updating library after adding new songs too, in addition to its low sound production.
I have tried the phone soft reset but this is never a permanent solution
The phone is a good phone still but Nokia seems to neglect its users.

  • Pdf's and hotsync

I just want to be able to read the pdfs I'm "notsyncing" to my tx.  I've got the latest version of software.  I synced PalmPDF and several ebooks but I cannot find the software or the books on the palm tx.  The hot sync dialog says "hotsync session completed with errors".  I can click on the backup folder link and see what I synced also but nothing shows up on the palm.  Even when I push the hotsync button it says its syncing those things but they never show up.  What can I do to make this work?
FWIW the palm tx appears to be a functionally sound product with a decent web browser and nice display but it appears as though the hotsync software was written by third grader...

Most of us prefer PalmPDF, but the trick to it requires you to put the raw PDF files onto your SD card yourself using a Card Reader attached to your PC.
Once the files are on the card, they will be read by the program using the "Open" dialog from the menu.
