NO SOUND / S-Bracket or On-Board / 865PE FIS2R - HELP!!!

Hi everyone, I need some help PLEASE!!!
I have a HUGE problem, the machine I have has been running really sweet. Everything is new except the old sound card I was using (Sound Blaster Live Value), anyway the machine worked perfectly as was assembled but my brother-in-law called me and told me he really needed my sound card. I was like cool, I'll give him mine, install the S-Bracket and use the on-board sound for 2 or 3 weeks then I'll get a really nice sound card like an Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum or Pro. So I went through the manual and check list. I removed my card and installed the S-Bracket. I've done everything correctly but am getting no sound. I made sure to enable Audio 97 in the BIO but still nothing, I also removed the jumpers recommended by bio when installing the S-Bracket
I haven't even been able to install any drivers and now am unsure if I'm even using the right disk that came with my 865PE. There's 2 disk, one called the Super Pack which has Photoshop, WinDVD, etc . . . so I'm assuming it's not in that one. Now the other one is the MSI Drivers and Utilities Disk. Under the MSI menu I can't find anything for sound. But if I explore the disk I find a sound folder. Well I've tried installing every driver listed but am getting the ERROR (Not equiped with this Audio chip, etc . . ) IF ANYONE has had a similiar problem or seen a very similiar post please let me know. I REALLY would like to get my on-board sound working. I don't have the cash right now for a new sound card.
THANX, Guru

Weird, well while waiting for a reply from MSI Support I decided to update my BIO from 1.7 to 1.9 Machine restarts and BAM! I have sound. So now I put the driver and utilitie disk back in and there are a few more options including C-Media software and drivers. So guess I'll install the software and ready to rock. Weird if you ask me that the bios upgrade caused it to realize the S-Bracket was on and that there was an on-baord audio chipset.

Before you send it for repair, try different RAM chips or HDD in it, if you have any sitting around.
I've had heat issues on my Dell @ work whose RAM stick went bad and new stick fixed it.
In any case, Apple technicians @ the store are helpful and they run diagnostics (for cheap) before doing any repairs, so you may have them do the diagnostics and repair it yourself afterwards, if it truns out to be just a bad RAM or HDD.
I hope you get out of it cheap.

  • Buffalo 3700 RAM detects as 333MHZ in 865PE FIS2R

I recently bought the MSI 865PE FIS2R board with an Intel P4 2.4Ghz 800FSB CPU.
The problem that I am having is that my Buffalo 3700 DRAM speed is detected as 333MHz. Is this correct? Sandra says that I am only using 166Mhz per channel.
I am not able to get the RAM to be 400Mhz dual channel.
However, when I used my bro's OCZ 3200 RAM, they detect at 400Mhz.
I also tried the beta 1.52 bios, but it doesn't fix the problem. Does anyone have any insight in this?
    Thanks.

Assaf, I am still not able to change the DDR Clock(MHz) setting from the Frequency/Voltage Control menu.
I went into Advanced Chipset Features, then DRAM Timing Settings and disabled "Configure DRAM Timing by SPD." My timings are set manually to 2.5, 3, 2, 5, and 8: CAS# Latency, RAS# Precharge, RAS# to CAS# Delay, Precharge Delay and Burst Length respectively.
I am aware that I could change the DDR Clock(MHz) setting indirectly by overclocking the CPU Bus Clock(MHz) setting above it.
However, I am more interested in how I could get this Buffalo 3700 DDR RAM to detect with a 400 MHz DDR clock like my brother's OCZ 3200 DDR RAM.
If there is a way to change it manually differently that what I have described, perhaps you could elaborate a little more?
    Thanks.

  • I have a 3rd generation wifi iPad and there is no sound in the device. Can someone please help?

I have a 3rd generation wifi iPad and there is no sound in the device. Can someone please help?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

    Hello Kishore1022,
It sounds like you have a new album downloaded and the tracks all have a very low volume. I recommend checking to see if Sound Check is enabled in the Music settings.

  • Does this sound like a bad logic board?

    Howdy everyone,
Tried searching and troubleshooting but I'm at a lost for answers so maybe someone who has experienced the same thing could chime in.
Our 2009 MBP started experiencing random beach balls a couple months back that gradually developed into full-blown lockups. Eventually the system refused to boot up so I figured it might be a hard drive problem.
I tested and verified the hard drive by:
    1) using disk Disk Utility to verify and repair the drive (completed without any issues and S.M.A.R.T. is 'verified')
    2) by installing the hard drive internally on a 2008 MB to see if it worked (booted up and worked just fine)
    3) hooking up the drive to the MBP via USB enclosure and booting up as an external disk (again also worked fine)
Next I figured it would be the hard drive ribbon cable so I ordered and tried two different ribbon cables, one from an Amazon reseller and one from iFixit.  I get the same result with both cables.  The drive is recognized in Disk Utility but the system refuses to boot and gets stuck at the logo page with the spinning progress indicator.  Booting in verbose mode revealed nonstop disk0s2 i/o errors.
I've ruled out the hard drive and the ribbon cable at this point so is there anything else that could be the culprit or does it sound like the logic board?
Thanks in advance for any input you could provide.

    Hi Neurotic
You maybe in luck, that 24" with the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT is rare and unlike most other iMac's can be refitted and with a new graphic's chip. Unfortunately the iMac is very difficult to open and work on, plus you may need an Authorized Apple Service Provider to locate and order the proper graphic's chip.
For a service provider in the US see > http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
For service provider elsewhere see > http://www.apple.com/uk/buy/locator/

  • NO SOUND OUTPUT MS 6373 Nvida Board FIX

Recently assembled Nvida MS 6373 MB and went nutz trying to get the sound to work and discovered new info listed in Tiawan FTP site Motherboard manual that was not explained in the old manual that simply explains that you need to jumper JAUDIO2 Jumper set which is just to the right of the CNR Slot at the bottom left hand side of the board and jumper 0 0 0   0 Pins 5&6 and 9&10 to get rear audio output.
           0 0 0 0 0
Pin 5   9  are just to the left and right of the Jumper that is skipped and jumping them will get analog sound output. Download the English Tiawan MB manual it has new info.

Were you trying to get on board sound or are you using an audio CNR card?? Cuz if you are trying to get on board sound then you don't even use the jumpers that you mentioned, you use JA1 and if you want front and back sound then both sides should be shorted.

  • Sound & Video stutter after logic board replaced?

About 9 months after having my MBP, my logic board died. I went to the mac store, and the replacement went fine.
Only two days after getting my MPB back, I noticed problems with the video and sound. If I would have both iTunes and Photoshop (or illustrator or Cinema4D) open at the same time, both my video and sound output would "lock up" (freeze) for about 10 seconds, stutter for a minute or two, and then run rather sluggishly.
Since this was not normal operation, I figured I would compare the framerate I got in World of Warcraft to my old framerates. With the original logic board, I was able to pull down 40-75 frames per second and have all the sliders in the middle. With the new logic board, I have to bottom out the video settings to get a whopping 6-9 frames per second. Again, something was not right.
I brought the MBP in to the Apple store and spoke with a "genius". I was able to recreate the problems (Both the itunes/graphics heavy program and WoW fps) and was told that "your computer is working as intended. You could buy a newer one, that may fix the problem but there is nothing we are going to do." Needless to say, I left rather angry.
Since there was allegedly no hardware trouble, I decided I could fix the problem by throwing another gig of ram at the computer. This did not fix anything. As of now, my sound will degrade to a 2-second bleat of static that repeats, even after closing any sound application, and the video will stutter and freeze even when only using that one program. The MBP has also started emitting an intermittent, high-pitched "whine". This is not acceptable, and since I am using these programs daily, I need this computer to act as more than a $2000 paperweight.
    What I need help with:
    A) Is there any diagnostics I can run to figure out what is causing these issues?
    B) Is there a specific thig I should ask the people at the genius bar to look for, to ensure that the problems will be fixed?
    C) Any other ideas to keep me from throwing this computer in a tub of water?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all geniuses are really geniuses. You might want to try talking to a different person, maybe through Apple Technical Support on the phone. You might be able to talk to a more senior level person that way. The difference in frame rate are striking, and it argues that there is still a problem somewhere.
Do you have 3 year Applecare? If not, you might want to get it since you are having problems. In any event, if you are close to the end of the warranty period, then you need to get a case number. With a case number, you can prove that the problem first occurred under warranty, and Apple will honor the warranty until it is fixed.
As for diagnostics, have you run the Apple Hardware Test or the Tech Tool Delux hardware test? The AHT should be on install disc #1, and the other comes with 3 year Applecare. It's possible there is a hardware issue that is causing problems. If so, you will get an error code, and that is definitely something you can take to the genius.
One thing that can be done is to reinstall the OS--a lot of trouble I know, but it eliminates the possibility of corrupted software as a contributing factor.
As for the whine, it could be either a fan or possibly the hard drive. You could download "iStatPro", a widget from the Apple site that will allow you to monitor the fans and see if the whine occurs when the fans speed up or something like that. You can also check your CPU usage, and verify that there's no background process running amok and contributing to your problems. And if the hard drive is making the whine, maybe it has a problem and is contributing to the slowness. Back up your data, just in case.
Hopefully, the more experienced and knowledgeable members of the forum can make further suggestions. But I think if you can go to Apple and tell them what you have tried and done, and maybe even eliminate some things as possibilities, it will help them to help you to zero in on what is wrong. As time goes on, these machines become ever more complicated, and not easy to diagnose.
    Good luck!

  • New Neo2plat problem occured: buzzing sound not due to on board sound tho

Right, it sounds like a small static zzzz zzz sound occuring, i have only recently heard this happeneing tho, and i have been conencted back to 10meg for 2 weeks, i didnt notice it before
i dont want it to be my PSU tho, its an antec trupower 550 so ample power is coming from it to the mobo, but theres no ruling it out either...
i do have my pc connected for massive amounts of time, days on end...
its only recently developed, but i have got the ethernet connected to the nvidia lan rather than the gigabyte
plus i have activated spread spectrum and the noise is slowly coming back even now
i have only really noticedf it since the alst time i took the side off my case aswell tho...
i might take everyhitng out the case and tie everything up just in case a cable etc is rubbing against a fan :S
    :(

Have ya cleaned the dust from it lately?
And have you bothered to try to isolate where the sound is coming from?
You could do that with some 1/4 inch neoprene tubing and a small funnel.
Put the tube in your ear and point the funnel at various points, it works, really
Reminds me of my days as a kid working in a garage, and the customers would come in and attempt to mimic the noise thier car was making

  • PT880 board problems, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

someone please help. so my computer is running totally fine. i plug in my usb cable for my wifes digital camera like normal, but it smelled funny.................   strange cause she has used this so many times. anyways at the boot up screen it checks memory and pretends like it is going to boot up but does not. it just locks up. i cant boot from a floppy disk, cd or anything. the leyboard wont even work. i have had the board for almost a month with no problems. i tried to force update the bios, reset the bios and reset the cmos and nothing is working. can someone please point me in the right direction? thank you in advance.

Oh dear that doesnt sound good, does the fans and CD rom lights come on ok? I ask because from the sound of it the best thing would be if it was just the powersupply that had blown.  Try reseatin all components and booting with the mimimum, e.g CPU, mem, graphics etc.  If not then....... well i think you know

  • 865PE FIS2R Problems

I just built a system that includes a P4 2.4c cpu, the 865PE Neo FIS2R motherboard, Corsair 1 GB Twin 3200 C2 ram and an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card.
Most of my problems seemed to stem from the ATI card. But now, I can't even download Adobe Acrobat Reader from the web without getting file errors.  I tried installing a game and received similar errors.  I have already reinstalled Windows XP twice. I did flash bios to 1.3 and perhaps that is the source for the instability.
I've decreased my Bios setting to "SLOW" and upped the DDR voltage to 2.7.  I came across a thread that stated Corsair C2 ram had problems with the 865P chipset and that they recommended their LL modules.
I think I'm going to have to RMA both the MSI board and Corsair ram and replace them with more stable products.  I'm not really trying to overclock but chose this board from the many reviews I've read, including the review from Tom's Hardware Guide.  I'm even tempted just to buy the Intel board for stability purposes.
For the time being, I've dropped the memory clock to 333mhz and will probably try OCZ 3500 ram instead.

I'm not quite sure what you want in terms of system specs, but I'll state what I know.
    MB:  865PE NEO FIS2R BIOS 1.3
    CPU:  P4 2.4c (Not overclocked)
    FSB:  800mhz
Ram:  Corsair 3200 C2, 1gb @ 400 mhz.  Times as listed by SPD were 2.5-3-3-3-8.
    Bios:  Slow setting
OS:  Windows XP SP1 and with all recent updates
    Video:  ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
    HD:  WD 80 GB 7200rpm ATA100
The reason I would consider returning the Corsair ram is that I shouldn't have to step ram speed down to 333 mhz when it's supposed to run at 400 mhz.  I came across a thread on this website that Corsair has known issues with the 865/875 chipsets and that they recommend low latency ram instead of the C2 ram.  I've noticed OCZ 3500 seems to run well at 400mhz according to posts in the MB vs ram thread.
While installing Red Alert 2, I received several errors which said that there was a problem writing files.  I've had this harddrive for over 6 months now and never had a problem with the P3550 Asus P3B-f system I was using.
While doing the 2nd install of Windows XP, I had file errors as well.  This leads me to believe the RAM is unstable at 400 mhz because I don't see any other explanation for that behavior.
As to whether stepping down to 333 mhz has solved the problem,  I plan on doing another install of XP today now that I've stepped down the RAM and will hopefully end up with no errors.
When I first setup the system, the MB Bios was 1.0.  I didn't feel I was having problems until 1.3.  The reason I had done a 2nd reinstall of XP was related to the video card and once i found out Red Alert doesn't work with HT on, that issue seems solved.
