No sound since download of Skype 7 and OS X Yosemite

Dear Community,I'm running a MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite and have downloaded the latest version of Skype (v7.0 653). Since then I have no sound on Skype - incoming or outgoing. I have checked the sound levels on the mac - these are fine and sound works for dvds and FaceTime etc. I have been to the audio-video settings in Skype and the indicator for the built in microphone indicates the built-in microphone is selected and is picking up sound. The volume levels are up on all of these settings. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype several times but this has not helped either.   Can anyone assist or is this a known software version problem that I need a bug fix for? Thanks

It totally jacks with my audio... does all sorts of crap to it. I run latest OSX and parallels - so I have audio from my VMs going - and it torpedoes audio in general and causes the VMs to crap out. I just close Skype now - I need a null audio device to tell it to use I guess - or something. I wouldn't use it if my clients didn't need it.  Maybe I'll just use it in a windows VM since it's apparently junk on osx.

    Does this only happen with the tracks you have downloaded from the iTunes Store?  Perhaps you should work the suggestions in this Apple support document first.

    I Think you have system sounds muted. Don't reset anything just yet.
    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7 or 8. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
    If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

  • I have lost my Norton log-in function and safe site feature since downloading the new, and not so good in my opinion, version of Mozilla Firefox, and I want theses features back so how do I get them back?

    I downloaded and installed the latest MF version, but now I have lost my Norton funtions in the bar under the address bar.
    Safe site and log-in. I want my Norton features back please so what do I have to do to get this?
    I'm not happy at losing these features and am not at all pleased with your so called improvements and wished you had left things alone, everything was working fine before.
    Help me get back my Norton functions.

    Norton Version 5.0 works with Mozilla 4.0 with a patch from Norton. I went to Norton help tab, chat line, and Norton assistant took over my computer, upgraded my Norton version 3.0, and installed the patch free of charge. all problems solved.

  • I cannot make in app purchases since downloading IOS8

    since downloading IOS 8 and subsequent updates I have not been able to make any in app purchases. I click to make a purchase, it asks me to enter my iTunes password, then asks me to confirm the purchase, all normal and as it should be. Then instead of the purchase going through I get two pop up windows. The first one says, "purchased failed, please,check settings and retry" The second one says, contact Apple support at www.apple.com/support/iTunes/ww/. Can someone,please,help me? Thank you

  • My wife and I share our Mac OS 10.6.8 since downloading Skype on her account she can not stay connected to any web site she pulls up. I removed Skype from here account but it stll happens. What can I do to clear this up?

    O.k. Thanks for the clarification. I poked around in my TimeCapsule router's settings (TimeCapsule is an Apple Airport Extreme router with attached hard drive for wireless backup/storage). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can disable multicasting with the TimeCapsule. I can change the multicasting 'rate'. Settings are Low, Medium, High. It's currently set to Low.
    I did a few web searches, and found an Apple.com article: <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3789?viewlocale=en_US> which explained how to disable Bonjour Service Advertisements. I believe this is the same thing as 'Multicasting'. The process is a modification of "/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist", and a restart of the Mac is required afterwards.
    I'm a bit concerned that disabling multicasting will interfere with my AppleTVs and iTunes music sharing, but I may try it next time I'm up for a computer workout. This task will require editing of system preference files, could require multiple restarts, might interfere with my AppleTVs, could interfere with my iTunes file sharing, doesn't have a documented relationship to my problem.
    This is way to difficult for something that should just work. Did you say you had read something about a relationship between this bonjour multicasting and smb connectivity? If it was online could you post the link?
    I'm currently able to connect to the drive using NFS, but I have to manually configure that connection each time I reboot (can't get the 'Disk Utility' configured to do it automatically). While it's working with NFS, it's not my preferred connect method (for various reasons).

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

    It sounds like your Mail application is not checking for mail automatically anymore after updating to 10.10.2. It seems to me that the setting for this may have reset, or changed at some point thereafter so I would check the preferences for the Mail application:
    General preferences - Mail Help
    Check for new messages
    When Mail gets new messages from the mail server. By default, the option is set to Automatically (Mail varies how often it gets messages, based on whether your Mac is plugged into an electrical outlet).
    An IMAP account may get messages more frequently if the mail server supports the IDLE command; make sure the option to use it is selected in the account’s Advanced pane in Mail preferences.
    If you set the option to Manually, click the Get Mail button in the Mail toolbar to check for messages. (Whenever you click an IMAP or Exchange mailbox, it syncs with the server, and shows new messages.)

    You are adventurous. Nothing wrong with your Mac. If I were you I would leave terminal and Console alone until you get familiar with your Mac. Even then unless you absolutely know what you are doing in Terminal you could end up with an expensive door stop. Play around with iPhoto, Safari Address Book, iCal. Read some Mac books from your local bookstore. Hang out at the forums. in short just have fun.

    I hav 2 mac's only 1 downloaded the Mavericks and regret doing it. Generally the computer is so much slower, where its suppose to increase the speed??  Issues to be more specific -
    Safari - about half the speed it was
    Time machine - use to automatically reset when reboot and does not do this
    Skype - after a period of time the sound cuts so that incomoimng messages are muted so i miss calls
    Google - apart from being slow it requires multiple daily retype of the password as it blocks gmail after a few hours, i get multiple downloads of dupl;icated messages.
    screen saver suddenly became very complicated to get my iphoto pics included in the search options
    I run Outlook for Mac 2011 which is a v good package and before Maverick was fine but is now super slow
    i am downloading all the upgrades hoping that fixes will appear but this maverick upgrade is a disaster...

    The question marks indicate the dock is pointing to an application that is out of place, the bottom ICONS are the DMG (disk image) when you installed them, after installation, just right click EJECT, since youre done with them,
    Solution
    These question marks in the DOCK occurs whenever an item in your Dock cannot be found. An item may not be found when:
    An installer replaces an application with a different version in a new location.
    You remove the item from your computer.
    The item in the Dock was stored on a disk that is no longer present or available (mounted).  This includes items dragged to the Dock from a previously-mounted disk image.
    If the Applications folder is renamed or moved when started up from Mac OS 9.  You should not rename or relocate Mac OS X-installed folders.
    .....open your APPLICATION folder and drag the APPS to the dock to replace the question marks.  Drag the question marks upwards until they vanish.

    I have this same issue! The button for to launch video chat isn't even there and when I go into skype to video in there I am able to get about 30 second of video then it freezes and won't come back.

    Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore.  Has any of this been tried?
    It is possible that dropping the device has caused the issue.... regardless, it's unlikely Apple would do a warranty exchange since there is obvious user damage.
    If basic troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, take it to an Apple store for evaluation... if determined to be a hardware issue and you ask nicely, they may be able to assist you, but they may also only provide the option of an Out of Warranty replacement.

    What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.
