No sound sr1630nx 32bit winxp home ac'97 or diamond xtreme 5.1

Hi, first time I've had a problem that I couldn't fix by just reading.  This computer was brought in for service to add wireless pci cards and a router at the customer's house.  First installed the wireless card in all three pci slots and the system wouldn't recognize them.  Remembering that the customer had indicated the sound wasn't working and seeing that the ac'97 was also on the pci buss, I ordered a new motherboard.  Installed it today and sure enough the pci slots all work fine now, except the sound still doesn't work.  Went to office depot and bought a $19.99 sound card by diamond and followed proceedure and still no sound.  Have installed the drivers for the ac'97 20 times and for the diamond xtreme twice.  Tried bios setting the onboard sound device off and auto.  No luck.
Please help.  The mobo on this computer is the asus a9ae-le oem board.  Can't find any posts here that seem to fit.  I had installed winxp service pack 3 thinking that would solve the ac'97 problem, but nothing has helped.
Thanks for looking!

I've not encounter any sound loss problems likewise of your case since most cases are dealing with standoffs and front panel jumpers or improper installing of drivers
Likewise I've mentioned in my last post. Since you are already not getting any sound output from the system, you can at least give it a shot and trial and test as you have nothing to lose. Mine is only a suggestion, you can of course choose to drop the idea as any other users may also choose to do so, not that you've to stick to what I've post.
There are many unbelieveable things that have a seemingly impossible workaround but still works, one simple example is the VGA drivers and Optical firmwares. It's only up to whether the end user using the that certain hardware wants to give a try or stay put only.

  • P965 Neo-F - GOTCHA! WinXP Home install tramples JMicron driver

    Noticed a couple of "gotchas" when doing clean install of WinXP Home SP2B from OEM CD - thought I'd share my experience in case it helps someone else avoid the same trouble...
    System hard/optical drive configuration at install time:
    Four hard drives all on SATA ports controlled by Intel ICH8
    2 x Maxtor 6B250S0 on SATA3 & 4 ("primary master" & "secondary master")
    2 x Seagate ST3320620AS on SATA6 & 7 ("third master" & "fourth master")
    Optical drives on PATA port controlled by JMB361
    2 x NEC (Optiarc) AD-5170A, 80-wire cable, drives set for cable select
    Nothing connected to JMB831 SATA port (SATA1), JMB361 set to IDE mode in BIOS
    Gotcha #1
    With default BIOS setting and all hard drives unformatted, WinXP setup was able to boot from CD. However setup could get no further than choosing the disk on which to install the OS; whichever disk I chose I then received a misleading error message that no WinXP compatible partition existed (despite the fact I had just (apparently) created one.
    The solution to this "gotcha" was to start again, but load the JMicron driver from floppy (F6) at the beginning of Windows setup. FWIW I was unsure whether to choose "JMB831 RAID or JMB831 AHCI from the choices on the driver floppy; since my BIOS is RAID-capable (even though disabled) I chose the JMB831 RAID option.
    Windows setup completed and newly-installed OS launched with no errors.
    Gotcha #2
    While installing the hardware drivers (Intel INF, graphics, Ethernet, sound etc.) I noticed that DVD drive access was very slow. I looked in Device Manager and saw that the JMB3xx "SCSI device" was not present, and that Windows had instead trampled it and installed a "Standard Dual PCI IDE Controller" in its place. The advanced properties of this device showed that the primary and secondary channels were locked in PIO mode.
    The solution was simply to reinstall the JMB831 driver; because I had no intention of ever attaching a hard disk to the JMB831 SATA port or running RAID mode I had no need of the Raid tool (or any desire to have it loaded at all and cluttering my system). I chose to install the driver manually; in device manager I right-clicked the erroneous "Standard dual PCI IDE controller", chose "update driver", chose to "search for driver files in a specific location" and specified the JMicron\Driver\x32 folder unpacked from the downloaded driver ZIP file.

    ((a) First "gotcha" might well be down to a bug in Windows XP setup - for example not being able to handle more than 2 active IDE controllers; installing the JMicron driver by F6 hid that IDE controller by turning it into "SCSI". BTW, my boot drive is already on SATA4.
    (b) I believe that the cause of the second "gotcha" is because Windows did not need to hang on to the JMicron driver as something critical for boot-up; it just lets the hardware detection phase do whatever it likes - Windows finds the nearest match it finds ("standard dual PCI IDE controller") that sort-of-works but my DVDRW drives were still stuck in PIO mode even with 1.6 BIOS.
    Hmm ... very strange.
    I didn't know Win XP HOME Edition is so bad (compared to Win XP Professional).
    Quote from: rculpan
    (c) FYI the four hard drives are because the system will be used for video editing with a lot of 2-camera work
      i. HDD1 = boot, I want to keep this drive clean & tidy; I don't want any video files there
      ii. HDD2 = drive where all rendered temporary files, created DVD images go
      iii. HDD3 & 4 are where the source (DV) video goes; for smooth editing when there are overlay/picture-in-picture effects I can put the two video sources on separate drives.
      iv The two optical drives are to facilitate disc copying; the AD-5170A's were so cheap that it wasn't worth bothering with a DVD-ROM and only one writer.
    (d) Stock Antec PSU in Sonata-II case (Smartpower 2.0 450W) seems well within its limits; the whole thing is only drawing about 300W from the mains (crude measurement by timing disc revolutions of electricity meter with a stopwatch), the case temperature is mid 20's deg.C and the CPU goes between 45-55 deg.C depending on load (stock Intel cooler). So I am not anticipating imminent demise of my power supply.
    If you're a Maxtor fan, a wiser solution (in your case) is to replace those 4 HDDs with 2 x DiamondMax 11 (6H500F0).
    Create 2-3 logical partitions on each one and your PSU is gonna be very happy.
    cheers

  • How to set classpath in WinXP Home edition

    Hello everyone,
    Recently I have try to run the HelloWorld java code, but it come up with a error. (Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: HelloWorld)
    Java programming Code:
    public class HelloWorld {
    public static void main (String args[]) {
    System.out.println("Hello World!");
    I also try to compile another simple program, and it come up with the simpler error, (Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Add16And23)
    Java programming Code:
    public class Add16And23
         public static void main (String[] args)
              int sum;
              sum=16+23;
              System.out.println("The sum of 16 and 23 is " + sum);
    HOW CAN I FIX THIS, I read other threads before, it say some about class path.
    Do anyone know how to set it, in winXP?
    Do anyone know the whole path that I should put in, in winXP?
    What should I type in the (User variables for windows) and (System variables).
    I have :
    * (j2eesdk-1_4-dr-windows-eval) downloaded and installed;
    *WinXP Home edition Version 2002 Service Pack 1
    * My current Java path are (C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin) in the (User variables for windows).
    Please help!!!
    Thank you all!!!

    I'm also windows xp.
    fllowing example:
    java_home=c:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin
    classpath=c:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\dt.jar;c:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\tool
    .jarThis won't fix a thing.
    When you run, do it like this:
    java -classpath . HelloWorldNote the "dot" after -classpath. That tells the class loader to look in the current directory for the .class files it needs.
    Read about how to run the javac.exe and java.exe tools in your javadocs. You'll have to learn about CLASSPATH. - MOD

    I think that you can' do that before both devices shares a same anthena.
    At least you can use an USB 3G adapter, which has built-in anthena.

    Hi again, i know what you above mentioned .. but if that would be easy to get the hidden OKR part direct on a stick and would be recover to original factory state !?  .. i promised that would be pinned at first above so there is no direct solution..but if you want a factory restore ...
    Backup  is a way to go ... trueimage backup fits on 8 GB (needs 7,8 GB) or with free Easeus To Do Backup (with BartPe and included plugin) will do same way on 16 GB memory stick  (needs 8,6 GB)

  • [SOLVED] no sound with 32bit prefix wine

    Hello,
    I am trying to play Ultra Street Fighter IV and I am running into a few issues.
    My standard wine prefix is a 64bit one.
    With it, I can play the game, hear the audio fine, but the videos/cut scenes don't appear at all. They're completely skipped.
    Looking around I found someone on wine db saying wmp9 fixed it for him, and so I tried.
    Unfortunately for wmp9 I need a 32bit wine prefix.
    I created one, winetricks wmp9 and yes the videos did play, success! But alas now the game has no sound... the in-game-videos do but not the game itself.
    Running winecfg on the 32bit wine prefix, I can hear the test sound, so I am not sure what the problem is.
    I have a wine-git build from the 14th September.
    I have also tried with a 1.7.24 csmt build and it was the same.
    I do not believe the issue is in wine itself, but who knows.
    I have tried setting Windows to XP or 7 and the result was the same.
    I have tried playing with winetricks settings but no result.
    I am running on Arch Linux 64b.
    I believe I have all the packages needed but again...:
    multilib/lib32-openal, multilib/lib32-libpulse multilib/lib32-alsa-plugins multilib/lib32-alsa-lib multilib/lib32-alsa-oss
    With a default wine command line, I do not see any particular error related to audio.
    I tried WINEDEBUG=+all, but it's way too much stuff... no clue what is important or not.
    The command line I use:
    WINEPREFIX=/home/<32BIT_WINE> WINEARCH='win32' wine-csmt SSFIV.exe
    I do not have any lib32 gstreamer installed, but I believe wine doesn't use gstreamer anymore so it shouldn't be a problem right?
    I am using pulse and checked in pavucontrol that there is no stream for the game.
    Thanks for any help!

    Good guess!
    I have some xaudio files in the 64b one but not the 32bit one.
    I have no clue where that came from. Let's try copying them.
    How did you even know about that?
    olive wrote:For 32bit audio you need to install lib32-mpg123. But maybe the problem is with your application. Does it work with other 32 bit applications? In wine, it's best to include all the optional dependencies to have everything working, please do pacman -Qi wine and ensure that the optional dependencies are installed (unless you know you do not need something).
    I already have that library and all the optdepts of wine as well.
    Now as for another app it's a good question, let me see.

  • How much do you care about sound quality in your Home Theater?

    Many people sweat over the smallest details when getting a video device (TV, projector), but do not think much about the integration of a sound system in their room.  Too many people think that a large TV with an off the shelf sound system will make a great home theater system.  Unfortunately, many stores can't even demonstrate the integration of video and audio as evidenced by the huge wall of TVs and a small section devoted to surround sound systems.  How is a consumer to build a home theater if you can't hear and see what is possible.
    So my question is, how much do you care about sound quality and what have you done to get the most out of your system?  For instance: Have you applied sound absorption materials to your walls, have you sweated speaker placement, have you plotted your room's anti-nodes, have you controlled your light levels, have you calibrated your speakers, etc.
    Believe it or not, your room's acoustics and the proper type of audio equipment and speakers play a much LARGER part in your enjoyment of anything that you watch.  You just can't throw some speakers into a room wherever you want and expect to have an engrossing experience.
    The reason I ask is that I don't believe that many people care about sound quality since a large percentage of the population think that portable digital audio players sound fine.  I would like to be proven wrong.  My other goal is to raise everyone's awareness that you need to think about more than just a large TV in order to build your home theater.
    I do not work for Best Buy and am not affiliated with them in any way. I like HT and want to help people improve their HT experience. "There is a LOT more than just having a TV to make a home theater"

    It really depends - I am working since the last 2 years on an very large Applet (~650 classes / 1.5mb classes) which had design-time comptibility with MSJVM and Netscape-1.1.5.
    Now 2 years later the applet is still not finished although I am pretty sure we would already be shipping if only our managers would not had been that stupid to decide 2 years back to support obsolte jvms.
    Since Netscape-4.x is dead and MSJVM useage really decreases dramatically (I guess it won't play a role in 2-3 years) I only can recommend to not target to the msjvm any more.
    its really ugly and its buggy, whereever you look bugs, bugs, bugs.

  • HP Pavilion A1429.UK - No Sound On Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hey folks, got a wee problem.
    I have recently put Windows 7 Home Premium onto my computer.  The install worked perfectly but every time I install the drivers for the X-120 speakers that came with the computer, after a few hours it disable itself and no sound plays.  And I have to Re-Install the drivers each time this happens.
    What can I do to stop this happening and to stop me installing the driver each time the computer disables the driver?

    Your PC has not been certified by HP for Windows 7 or VISTA.  Putting that aside,  I suspect the sound driver needs an update. Go to www.realtek.com and look for a newer driver.  Why do you need speaker drivers since the on board audio should do the job?
    Go to Device Manager and look for yellow exclamation points, yellow question marks or red Xs.
    Try this procedure:
    Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. Plug your PC back in a give it a go.

    Uh, there's TONS of options, depending on what inputs you have on your stereo.But most often (and the simpelest) is a minijack on the output of your soundscard to a a RCA input on your stereo most often labeled "Aux" (which in most cases has a White and Red female RCA receptor) to connect a minijack-to-dual RCA cable).

  • WinXP Home install problems on Mac Pro

    Hi,
    I have a brand new Mac Pro Dual 2.66GHz. It came with a second GeForce 7300GT installed. I installed additional 2x 1GB FB DIMMs. Everything worked fine, and I installed all new updates, including the new EFI Firmware update Apple introduced yesterday. After the OS X setup was complete, I downloaded BootCamp 1.1.2 and followed the instructions to create a 30GB partition for Windows XP Home. I insert the WinXP CD and let BootCamp restart the computer. WinXP boots and the blue screen appears and a bunch of drivers get loaded. After that I get the first install screen, and on that point the keyboard is not responding anymore. I can press "return" as often as I want, the install does not start. It also not responds to F3 or R as written on the screen. Its the first time Windows gets installed on this Mac Pro. I also tried to connect the keyboard directly to the computer (before it was on the cinema display hub). I tried to remove the RAM to have only the standard 1GB RAM installed. Nothing worked.
    Anyone have a hint to get this done? Thanka a lot on advance!
    Marty

    I already thougt about that, but Apple put a note on the page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd12.html
    "Note: This CD cannot be used to return an Intel-based Macintosh computer’s firmware to a previous version if a successful update has already been performed."
    So because I did a successful fimware update, I can not go back to the old firmware! There is no way back!

  • Recording a surround sound cd/dvd for home theater

    I am trying to burn a 5.1 surround sound cd/dvd with different audio in each channel.  I have created the file without any problems and it will play on my computer in surround sound.  When I burn the cd/dvd (I have tried both) all of the audio plays in all channels. How do I burn the file onto a disc so that it will play correctly as surround sound in my home theater?

    I know this question was asked ages ago, but I'm sure others are probably looking for an answer too (as I was over a year ago, when I started working with Audition 3).
    In my experience, there is no way to directly export a functional 5.1 file from Audition.  You can surround mix a file using the surround panner, but you can't export in the file format used by most home theater systems (.ac3 - Dolby Surround Sound).  My solution was to track down a standalone encoder, although there may be pugins available to allow Audition to do this.  After surround mixing, I export to 5 mono wav files and then drop them into this absolutely ancient program called Soft Encode, which creates a single, interleaved .ac3 file out of my source files.  Then, I take the .ac3 file, create a blank video the same length, and use my video editor to burn them to a DVD.
    From what my research turned up, the reason Audition does not have the capability to export in .ac3 is because of the expense of licensing with Dolby.  I would love to see a more sophisticated surround panner in AA4, as well as the ability to natively export .ac3 files, but by the same token, I don't want to see a skyrocketing price, so I'm waiting to see what happens!
