No sound though microphone jack in Windows 7 (Bootcamp).

I'm having a problem where the microphone that came with my webcam is not working in Windows 7. The OS seems to know when it's plugged in and when it is unplugged, but it is not picking up any sound through it. I've tried enabling it, disabling it, rolling back the drivers (which makes the headphones jack stop working), and un/reinstalling the drivers. Importantly, the microphone does work in OSX Lion. I don't have another microphone to test it with, but I'm relatively sure it is not a problem with the microphone and rather is a problem with the Windows drivers. Here's the driver information:
Driver: Cirrus Logic CS4206B (AB35)
Date: 4/14/2011
Version: 6.6001.1.32
And here's the system information:
2011 Mac Mini 2.5GHz i5 with 4Gb RAM and AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics
Running Windows 7 UItimate 32bit on Bootcamp version 4.0
If there's more information needed, let me know. Thanks!

Audio device driver: Mini uses ? I know some Macs use RealTek and others have Cirrus so whatever you have, then RealTek is easy to deal iwth and install, Cirrus is harder to find and install.
Audio pretty much does not work w/o user manually updating

  • No sound from headphone jack with Windows 8.1 (Hp Envy 15)

    Hello all, I have an Envy 15 3040nr and I did a clean install of microsoft latest Windows 8.1 version plus all drivers. Everythink works BUT the headphone jacks. I had windows 8 before and everything worked.
    Once I plug a headphone in either jack (envy 15 has 2) the speakers stop as expected but I get no sound in the headphone. I tested two headphones that work just fine on my phone and other computer.
    I also checked if it was a hardware problem but it isn't. I boot with Ubuntu and both headphone jacks works perfectly.
    I installed several (at least 6) driver versions searching the forum but even when I get the speakers working the headphone jacks never works.
    Please help!

    Hello ArthurSilva,
    Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
    You stated that you are able to get the speakers working, but you have been unable to get the headphones to work. I would like you to get your speakers so they are working and then try the steps I have outlined below to get the headphones working afterwards:
    Step 1. Go to the Tiles menu and type "Troubleshooting"
    Step 2. Click on Troubleshooting
    Step 3. Click on Troubleshoot audio playback in Hardware and Sound option
    Step 4. Click Next
    Step 5. Choose Headphones and Windows will automatically detect the problem
    Step 6. Click on "Apply, fix" button
    This should resolve your headphones issue with Windows 8.1. If it does not please re-post for further steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi I/O - Windows 7 RC - Microphone jack not working

    Hey all,
    I've recently installed the Windows 7 RC and am running the Beta drivers on it. I have a weird problem with it where the Microphone jack is being recognised as line-in, but all of the controls for the actual line are in the microphone properties. For instance, I can enable the +20dB boost, which will affect the sound coming through line-in, but it still won't recognise the actual Microphone.
    Any ideas why this is? Previous behaviour in Vista was that the Microphone jack was recognised as one and I could control the recording settings from there...

    Sorry fffcmad,
    Everything you said in your post does not apply to the Titanium.
    The mic shares the line-in on a channel called FlexiJack. There is a tab in the "Settings" window in which you can switch between the two. You can find that window by opening the "Game Mode" window and click "Settings" on the bottom of that window. However, the problem is that mic detection is very unstable and you have to have luck to get it to work. The next step is to select the "Microphone" channel by clicking the arrow above the right-most fader in the "Game Mode" window. However, for some odd reason that option often fails to popup there. Often you'll find "Microphone FP" (note the "FP" in the name and it stands for "Front Panel") which is only available in the version with the front panel! The FlexiJack one is called "Microphone" (with the "FP" in the name). Rebooting might help, but often it doesn't. Changing input devices and changing them back might work, but often it doesn't.
    Also, the Titanium has no mic boost. That is a real problem, because the mic volume is extremely low.
    The short answer: The Titanium's drivers are unstable.

  • Route sound output to microphone jack?

    Hi,
    I have a 5.1 Soundsystem I want to use.
    My Notebook has 2 headphone jacks and one microphone jack.
    Is it possible to route the sound so that micropone jack outputs front/center headphone1 gives front and headphone 2 gives rear with ALSA?
    I already used the board search and found a thread that links to this page. But I did not really understand what's done in this .asoundrc file.

    You will have to experiment with ttable entries, to see if it will work - see upmixing examples.

    After you install Apple driver to enable the audio chip, YOU then need to manually download and install (Cirrus or Realtek audio depending on the Mac).

  • Microphone Activity Level at -1 even though Microphone.getMicrophone() is called, why?

    Hi There,
    I'm setting up an application where I need to record users' voice every so often during the course of the users' interaction with the application.  Recording is fine, and the quality is fine, but now my issue is understandng how Flash handles the microphone when it gets attached to a stream for publishing.
    Basically, the problem is that when I "publish" my stream, the voice gets cut off (clipped) at the beginning.  So, I initially thought this may have to do with buffer settings on the FMS server side, but it wasn't.  Then I investigated client side stuff.  For some reason, my internal mic .activityLevel property is -1 even though I have called Microphone.getMicrophone().  According to Flash's documentation, this shouldn't be the case:
    activityLevel    property
    activityLevel:Number  [read-only]
    Language Version :     ActionScript 3.0
    Player Version :     Flash Player 9
    The amount of sound the microphone is detecting. Values range from 0 (no sound is detected) to 100 (very loud sound is detected). The value of this property can help you determine a good value to pass to the Microphone.setSilenceLevel() method.
    If the microphone is available but is not yet being used because Microphone.getMicrophone() has not been called, this property is set to -1.
    Okay, I understand that fine.  So, here is my code.  I am using a timer to investigate the microphone .activityLevel property every 50 milliseconds:
    package
        import fl.controls.Button;
        import fl.controls.TextInput;
        import flash.display.Sprite;
        import flash.net.NetConnection;
        import flash.net.NetStream;
        import flash.events.NetStatusEvent;
        import flash.events.MouseEvent;
        import flash.events.Event;

           private var recID:String = "userVoc";

                nc=new NetConnection();
                   nc.addEventListener (NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS,checkConnect);
                   rtmpNow="rtmp://www.fmsurl.tv/app";
                   nc.connect(rtmpNow);
                mic = Microphone.getMicrophone();

                   trace("Speak for file:" + recID + ".flv");
              private function stopRecord ():void
                   ns.close ();
    Here are the trace statements from my output window when I run this program.  My question is why the level is at -1 at the time of publising the stream?  I already called everything I needed to in order for the client machine to attach mic data to the published stream.  I'm at a loss here.  I want to be sure that the user's voice does not get clipped at the start.

    Okay, after more investigation, I'm still getting clipped audio recordings even when the silence level is traced as 0 instead of -1.  Has anybody ever had the problem of clipped audio recordings after attaching mic data to a publishing stream?  Any tips as to how I might fix this?

  • Microphone jack not working

    I have an HP G60 Notebook PC and whenever I want to feed something into the microphone jack it records badly. What I'm trying to do is directly feed audio into the microphone jack. I can get it to work on another laptop perfectly but for some reason when I do it on my HP it sounds like its playing back underwater. Its distorted and the volume varies. Any help would be awesome.

  • I want to safely connect a Radio Shack 4-channel microphone mixer to my notebook's microphone jack

    I am trying to cobble together a low-cost teleconferencing setup for a 20x20 foot room using microphones I've scrounged from old computers and a Radio Shack 4-channel mixer (cat# 32-2056).  I am putting together an adapter board for the mics going into the mixer by following the notes in the "Multimedia microphones to normal microphone input" section at http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/microphone_powering.html but I am not sure how to deal with the mixer to computer interface.
    Ideally I would like to see the schematic for the Pavilion microphone jack circuit so that I can verify the input levels, impedance, and so on.  The specific model number I have is dv9610us.
    When I plug a Y-adapter (3.5mm stereo plug to two RCA jacks) into the Pavilion's microphone jack, the voltage readings I get on both RCA tips is +1.88V which is not what I expected based on what I was seeing at the above URL.

    Hi,
    Good luck with the project.
    Finding a schematic for an OEM laptop is definitely looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack.
    If you search a bit more you will find what the impedance range for generic sound cards are with ease.
    Consider an external sound card with isolating transformers to reduce the ground loop.
    You will probably have better luck getting schematic info on an external usb audio interface than you will on the laptop audio circuit. There is always the option of searching for details on the laptop audio circuit through the sound chip manufacturers (Realtek and others)
    BTW...is this teleconferencing setup going to be audio/visual or just audio?
    regards,
    erico

  • Microphone problem on Windows XP running on Macbook Pro

    I just bought a Macbook Pro with a built-in Realtek HD audio card, and I have a problem using the microphone on the Windows side (I've installed via Bootcamp a Windows XP Home edition service pack 2). For some reason Windows doesn't recognise the microphone at all (although I have no problem with the loudspeakers). I tried downloading the new driver
    Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file) R1.89 2008/3/18 25421k
    from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24& Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false and ran the driver,
    but it didn't help. Right now when I'm trying to detect the microphone using the Control Panel wizard an error message comes up, saying that there's an error code 0x80004005
    what should I do?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Is it possible to get ReadWrite Mac HFS+ drivers for windows 7 so I can manage my Mac formatted Backups through windows bootcamp?

    Hello!
    I was just curious if there was a driver or something I can install so that I can read and write my mac OSX formatted [HFS+] external drives in Windows 7,
    using the windows file explorer [the equivalent for finder].
    This is essential for me because I need the windows explorer copy/file transfer dialog box with all it's options and functionality.
    Any suggestions relating either to windows bootcamp, or running windows through vmware fusion next to mountain lion [I would much prefer to be able to do this with VMWare Fusion, but either way is absolutely fine.]
    I need this because I need to do HEAPS of file management,
    and I find finder's file transfer / copy dialog box to be totally inadequate, hopeless and almost useless, [a nightmare in fact] next to the excellent functionality of Windows 7 file transfer dialog.
    This has been my most hated issue with OSX for years now.
    File management is a total nightmare in OSX.
    I may make another post / feature request detailing my hatred of this lack of functionality, because it kills me every time I have to manage and backup large folders filled with lots of files and subfolders.
    Sorry for the end-rant.
    Thanks so much for any help! (:

    Hello Alberto and Woodmeister50,
    thank you for both your answers.
    I have to try and remember to state things I have tried previously or am aware of; my bad!
    Alberto:
    Thanks for your ideas.
    I'm aware of ex-fat format.
    Unfortunately, my external drives are quite full and a reformat or EXFAT partition is out of the question.
    I'm formatted them OSX extended journaled a couple of years back before I was aware of exfat.
    I could buy yet another drive, but I don't really want to do that until SSD's come down in price and expand in size.
    [also, while not a big issue, I hear EXFAT can't handle files bigger than 4gb. Not that I have many such files, so that's not really a big concern].
    So doing my file organization through windows explorer is, to my knowledge, the best option,
    if it is possible. [I hope!]
    This would be a perfectly satisfactory solution for me if I can use Windows Explorer through VMware to manage and organize the files and folder on my HFS+ external drives.
    I'm not sure if paragon HFS+ or Macdrive allow you to use windows explorer to manage files?
    Or only through their own file manager and dialogs?
    A costly gamble if they do not, and if their file/folder transfer dialog also happens to be inadequate.
    Woodmeister :
    Thanks.
    Actually, my problem is both HFS+ / windows compatibility AND that I hate finder
    [the HFS problem being a result of the fact I hate finder]
    I have tried Pathfinder [the demo version though, maybe it has limited functionality],
    and I have found it's file transfer dialog / options / functionality to be very totally lacking as well.
    Others I have tried.
    Mac Explorer.
    MoveAddict doesn't seem to work for me presently, although I hear it might be good.
    Total finder is fantastic for other reasons but does nothing for the copy dialog.
    Um.... there were a bunch of others I tried, but all no good.
    So I guess my question is still the same, with a bit more specific information now
    For a very in-depth review/analysis of the hatred of finder's lack of features in this area,
    there are many threads on many forums, such as can be found if you google for the thread on this forum
    GOOGLE : MacRumors OS X: how to merge folder contents, not replace
    Please ignore the fact that some ex-windows people are just not used to the fact that "replace" in finder means to replace a whole folder, as this is not the issue.
    The lack of functionality is, and there are many pages of mac-loving people complaining about it.

  • Disk repair failed after using osx with hibernated windows/bootcamp with macdrive

    hi,
    i just realized i did something really,really stupid.
    I forgot I just closed the lid of my MBP the last time I used windows/bootcamp (instead of shutting it down) and that triggered hibernation.
    The next time I powered my MBP on, OSX startet automatically and I opened some of the same files that "were already open" in the hibernated windows (on osx main/boot partition, using macdrive in windows).
    That (or resuming the hibernated windows later) probably led to some data corruption that prevents the osx volume from booting and neither the automatical repairing during booting nor disk utility (external hdd or recovery partition) is able to repair it. (not sure if there is any difference).
    Booting in verbose mode shows the file names that were double-opened during repair attempts.
    After booting osx from an external HDD, Disk utility fails mounting the main osx volume straight away, but succeeds with mounting it after a failed repair attempt.
    I only have read acces then, though.
    bootcamp partition is still working fine, btw
    1. I wonder if it is possible to gain write access somehow and if deleting just those "double-opened" files/the containing folder (which is saved on dropbox btw, so I really wouldnt mind deleting them/it) would solve the whole problem or if i really have to reformat everything and spend 10+ hours to revert everything to the state before the data corruption. ?
    2. if I have to reformat + reinstall, using migration assistant and the corrupted volume as source isn't a great idea, i guess? are there any options to exclude some specific folders of the user folders?
    3. will the bootcamp partition work after reinstalling osx or do i have to winclone-it somewhere? checkdisk says the volume is OK btw.
    many thanks!

    Hi 3tc, thnx for a tip.
    One more question - did procedure solve also "file already in use" problem on win bootcamp?
    thnx
