No sound through headphones, only from iPad speaker

When I plug my headphones into my iPad, I get no sound, and the music continues to play through the iPad speaker instead.  The same headphones work fine with my iPod.  Is there a setting I need to change to shut off the music from going through the iPad speaker and send it through my headphones instead?

Is there a solution?

  • No sound through headphones, Only works with dock

I've had my iPod nano 4th gen. for about two years, and have had no significant problems with it until now. When I have headphones plugged into the iPod, no sound comes through them. The wheel can be heard "clicking" through the external speaker as normal. This problem is not a headphone malfunction, as the headphones work fine with all other devices.
I have a boombox with an iPod dock, and the music plays fine through that. I believe the iPod headphone jack is broken or loose. Is there any way to fix it on my own? And if not, how do I go about sending the iPod in for refurbishment?

  • HP dc7600 sound through headphones only

I have a HP dc7600 running Windows XP Pro. The other day I plugged in a pair of headphones to watch an online video. Strangely enough the audio still played through the internal speaker with the headphones plugged in. Since that incident, I now have audio only through the front headphone jack. The other jacks and internal speakers seem dead when playing windows audio (through the control panel and volume panel). All volume levels are up and unmuted.
I've also gone to HP's site and downloaded the latest version of the Realtek audio drivers. No luck.
Any suggestions on getting this fixed? Or am I stuck to plugging in a pair of speakers to the headphone jack?
    Thanks,
    Bob

I'm running Windows XP Pro. Is there an XP alternative to the screen shot you provided?
I don't have external speakers. I only have the speakers built into the desktop box. Nothing is plugged into the back ports. The front headphone jack still works. My suspicions are growing stronger that this is a hardware failure. I may have to pick up a cheap set of speakers to plug into the headphone jack. :-(

  • Sound Through Headphones Stops

I have a Pavilion Dv7-6b01TX and recently I have been experiencing an issue where after a while, the laptop refuses to play sound through headphones, even when there's a pair of headphones plugged in. I've seen other problems like this, and the solution is to reinstall the sound drivers, but I have already done this 3 times. The only solution is to restart the laptop, but that is purely temporary and only lasts a couple of hours, at most.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I assume the guitar has electronics? If so, you must have some sort of ground loop. However, recording an acoustic using the electronics will not give the best acoustic sound, if that is what you are after. A mic on an acoustic will give a much more pleasing acoustic sound.

When headset is inserted, why does sound continue to come from the speaker?

Sure your inserting the headset into the Headphone Out port and not the In port..?
    Also what headset....?
Most PC based headset with built in mic's will not work without using a device like the Griffin iMic.

  • IPad making pulsing sound through headphones

For a while now, whenever I plug my headphones into my iPad, I can hear a faint pulsating sound. It happens no matter what. Even if I have the iPad asleep. When I dont have earphones in everything sounds normal. If I plug them in then pulsating begins and if I have sound playing the sound will go in and out at the pace of the pulsing. It's getting very annoying. Any help?

Do the Music and Videos app still play through the iPad's speakers ? If so then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • TS2634 No sound through headphones with iPad mini

My iPad mini will not work with headphones. It worked once and now the sound still comes out of the speaker when the headphones are plugged in. What am I missing to make them work?

if the sound is still coming out of the speaker, it's not recognizing that the headphones are plugged in.  Make sure they're plugged all the way in.  There may be a bit of lint or something pushed down into the headphone jack that keeps them from going all the way in, use a flashlight and see if you can see anything...
Are your headphones going all the way in when you plug them?

  • Sound comes only from internal speaker in earpods?

Or the last month my apple earpods were working fine, now the sound is coming out only from the internal speaker ( the one on the side of the earphone )
What can I do to fix it ?
    Thank you in advance !

You really cannot repair earpods, you need to replace them as there is damage for some reason...provided you have checked to see there is nothing clogging the ear holes such as ear wax.  Take them to an Apple store if they are still within the one year warranty period.

  • No sound through headphones or speaker

My sound works fine at first, then i plug in my headphones and sound still works but when I pull out my headphones i lose sound in headphones and speakers on my 13" macbook pro.  only a reboot (as far as I know) fixes it.

    1. Try Reset PRAM.

    2. Try Reset SMC.

  • Certain sounds on headphones only

Hi there are some apps I can't "listen" to unless I am using headphones. I get a  message that special effects are headphones only. How can I change that? It didn't used to be like that! But... I don' know how this setting changed nor how to reverse it.  I've looked under settings and I can't find an option for headphones.
For example, the videos available through the weather channel app, the disneyland explorer games and videos, can't be hear without headphones. Thanks in advance

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • X-FI 3D positional sound through headphones with CMSS

    <FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>UPDATE: To Creative employees
<FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>Please respond to this thread and try to sort this issue. Is bad sound from "headphones"+CMSS On due to a limitation of the hardware (is the sound quality degradation compared to "2/2. speakers"+CMSS On due to a much more complex algorithm of 3D positional sound mixing)?
<FONT color=#ff0000 size=4>Is there a way to adjust the speaker angles in Calibration tab of THX Console to more than 60 degrees (I would definitely consider a hexediting hack as a viable solution, whatever works)?
I have this problem with X-FI Fatalty. Maybe someone knows what to do about it... I'm trying to get 3D positional sound to work through regular stereo headphones using CMSS 3D. The way I have it set up is as follows:the win xp Control Panel is set to 5., X-FI audio console is set to "headphones" or "2/2. speakers", and CMSS 3D is enabled at default settings. It does work - the 5. sounds from, say, a game is downmixed to stereo with 3D positional effects mixed in (sounds coming from behind are of a different tone, and actually sound like they come from behind). There are problems however. With "headphones" setting, the sound quality is atrocious - the sound is muddy and boomy. The 3D positional audio effects work great - I can pinpoint every direction from which the sound is coming fairly accurately. Note that without CMSS 3D, the "headphone" setting sounds great. With "2/2. speakers" setting, the sound quality is normal (sounds great on my HD555 headphones), but the 3D positional audio effects are not good - audio control panel in X-FI software allows only a maximum of 20 degrees setting for the angle between the speakers, whereas 80 degrees would be required to simulate 3D effects through headphones (X-FI software has two settings for that actually, (+/-)60 degrees maximum for each speaker, with the reference angle of zero degrees being directly in front of the listener - directly in between the two speakers). So my questions is this. Has anyone figured out how to either improve the quality of the sound with "headphones" setting, or increase the angles of the speakers to (+/-)90 degrees (80 total) with "2/2. speakers" setting?<!-- / message --><!-- sig --><SPAN>

The only possibility that I can think of is that 2/2. mode is NOT as simple as headphone mode with crosstalk cancelation. Perhaps the HRTF only kicks in for sound sources outside of the arc directly in front of the listener. If that were the case, you wouldn't percei've any distortion for sound sources in front of you.
Also, you are wrong regarding DirectSound3D. Keep in mind that Direct3D and DirectSound3D are not the same. The whole point of OpenAL and DirectSound3D is that they present an API to the programmer through which there is NO specification of the number of speakers. When using OpenAL or DirectSound3D, the only thing a programmer can do is specify the location of a mono sound source in 3D space relati've to the listener. The speaker settings for your DirectSound3D or OpenAL device will then determine how this sound is "rendered" by the soundcard. It is not under control of the game. For example, if you have 5. speakers and the 3D position is behind you, the SOUND CARD will make the decision to use the rear speakers. If you use headphones, the SOUND CARD will decide to apply an HRTF to create the illusion of a rear sound source. The point is that the game does not have control over how many speakers you will get sound from.
However, to further complicate the situation, there are SOME games (HL2 is an example) where DirectSound3D is used, BUT the sound output of the game itself IS a function of the Windows speaker settings. This is not how programmers are SUPPOSED to use DirectSound3D. I've written about this countless times. There is a good post on [H]ard|Forum about this. Do an "advanced" search with my username (thomase) looking for the terms "hl2" and "cmss".

  • ThinkPad T430s No Sound Through Headphones or Internal Speakers

My laptop is unable to play sound through both headphones/earphones and its internal speakers.
I downloaded and installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from the following site: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t43... .
As a result, the Device Manager shows that the HD Audio Device is working properly.
Also, there is a green check mark over the internal speakers icon and headphones icon (when I plug the headphones into the jack), which was not present before I installed the Realtek Driver.
However, there is still an "X" over the audio icon in the taskbar.
When I click on the audio icon, the following window appears, stating that the audio device is disabled.
I have went through various forums and solutions, but none have been helpful so far.
Thank you so much for your time and help for this issue!

The Unknown Device seems to have disappeared from my Device Manager when I restarted my laptop. However, the HD Audio Device is still there.
My audio stopped working around December 23, 2014. Since then, I have tried to find solutions on various other sites. But, when I search for the System Restore, it only brings up a recent Windows Update.
Roll Back for the HD Audio Device is greyed out.
Also, after uninstalling the HD Audio Device and rebooting Windows, this dialog appears, mentioning that the Unidentified Device is something that was unplugged, which I think are the headphones. Also, there was a Failed installation for the Audio Device.
Thanks so much for helping me look into this problem.
