No sound through usb soundcard

Hi there,
I am using KDE desktop and an external USB soundcard. Audio works through every program using the external USB card except for Chromium. There is one exception audio does work through headphones on chromium so I guess that cancels out flash.
I have read brebs threads regarding similar scenarios but from what I can find there are none specific to this problem.
I had the same problem when using Kubuntu Karmic on my laptop using the same USB soundcard and never solved it.
Is there anyway I can configure my system to direct audio from Chromium to my USB soundcard?

I'm not sure whether this helps but cat /proc/asound/cards list the following:-
~]$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel          ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfbffc000 irq 28
1 [default        ]: USB-Audio - USB Audio CODEC

  • [SOLVED] No sound through usb soundcard in Google Chromium

    Hi there,
Before switching to Arch I had used my external usb soundcard in Ubuntu and Kubuntu which worked almost flawlessly except for no sound through Google Chromium in Kubuntu. I thought this may have been isolated when switching KDE on Arch but I'm stilling having the same problem. All audio works through the external soundcard except for Chromium.
Does anyone know how I can change sound preferences in Chromium or other way to solve this problem?
    Thanks,

Not sure exactly what I did but I fiddled with the default soundcard configuration and now it works.

  • ITunes doesn't play through USB Soundcard

Hi, I am using a USB soundcard because the headphone jack on my laptop is really scratchy. However, playback goes through my built-in soundcard and then to the speakers, rather than through my USB soundcard into my headphones.
I've checked all system settings for the soundcard, and everything points at the USB soundcard even though iTunes is the only program that plays through the built-in soundcard.

That's kind of you to say so, Kim. Glad you got things sorted out.

  • System sounds through internal speakers but other audio through USB Soundcard

    Hi there,
I am having a bit of an odd problem. I have a USB sound card and when using it plugged directly into my Macbook Pro retina's USB slot all audio comes through the sound card however when using the sound card connected to a USB hub almost all sounds except for system sound come through the speakers (e.g. deleting a file in finder noise comes out the internal speakers or sending an email sound etc.). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get all the audio to come through the sound card or as to why this is happening?
I have checked system preferences and it says USB Audio Device is the output. I have tried changing it to internal speakers and back again but this hasn't fixed the issue.
    Thanks
    Ben

Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup; select the desired output device and click on the gear icon at the bottom, select 'Play alerts and sound effects through this device'.

  • Loss of sound through USB Soundsticks

I've looked through the posts about sound loss and lots of people who are having issues get a symbol appearing or problems even after a restart - I don't!
I've had Soundsticks working for some years now but recently (certainly since 10.5.4) they work for a day or so then suddenly stop. Changing to another sound output (like internal speakers) shows that they are working OK but changing back does not restore the Soundsticks. A restart always cures it.
This suggest a USB more than sound issue but no other USB devices (printers) are affected and System Profiler can always see the Soundsticks.

Having the same problem here, Soundsticks (version 1), just stop. Unplugging from the USB port and plugging back in seems to work, as does unplugging from the AC cord and plugging back in. A real PITA though. Seems to have started happening since 10.5.5, though I can't say for certain. System Prefs still see them, and think they're working just fine, but no sound. I can also switch back to internal speakers, then back to the soundsticks and the audio will return, but only for a few minutes. Argh!

  • My ipod touch 5th gen has no sound through usb hookup-car

I Have a kenwood ddx 370 touch screen HU installed in my car, and i can'y get sound from my speakers when its in ipod mode, and the wires are plugged in to the HU. I used to own a iphone 4, and a iphone 4s that both worked. now this issue is strange with not getting sound, as everything else works.
it charges, it is recognized by the HU, displays all the album art song etc, but just not hearing the sound.
my radio, xm radio cd and all that work fine. its strange how the phone does everything on the radio but have sound coming out of speakers. when i just use the aux cable i get the sound, but none from usb/ipod option. anyone familiar with this, and how to fix this?
i just got the ipod touch no even a week ago either, and it was brand new.

Does Kenwood say it will work with a 5G iPod (or iiPhone 5)?

  • No sound through USB to amplifier - Nobody seems to be able to diagnose

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 PSAGCA-09U01N running Windows Vista and can not connect to my Yamaha Amplifier via HDMI.  I have tried many ways to solve this problem and no-one seems able to assist, am about to give up as I'm not sure the Toshiba is up for the challenge ?  I have tried selecting a different output in the playback devices list but this doesn't seem to work, I am able to send video via a cable but not audio, however if I connect the cable direct to the TV I am able to send both video and audio after manually selecting the HDMI cable as the audio output.  I have also checked the input on the amp to ensure that it is not faulty and discovered that other devices can be plugged in with the same lead and the same input and both video and audio are available.  Please any help or even the right person to ask would be greatly appreciated.

Hi If I'm reading your post correctly, you are able to connect your PC to your TV with a HDMI cable and you get sound and vidio; however you don't get both when connecting to your Yamaha Amplifier. Have you asked the Yamaha people for assistance?? When you say other devices work, can you be more specifc. Maybe others here have a better answer.

  • Audio input either through audio jack or through USB.

I need to connect a device on my laptop that only has ONE audio panel (for a headphone AND microphone device).
This does not recognize my microphone only device.
Is there a driver I can download to use for it to recognize my microphone?
I also have a USB that I can connect instead, which driver should I download for it to record sound through USB?

    Hi Nikker,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I saw your post regarding the problems with the microphone. Most HP notebooks have a built-in mic to confirm that I will need to know your product number. You said it won't recognize your microphone but does it see it in Sound in your Control Panel. If it is listed there we can try to set it as the default recording device. This third-party link will show you how to do that about halfway down.
As for a driver that will let you record sound through your USB with a USB microphone there is no HP driver for that. There might be a driver from the company that makes the USB microphone.
Also what is your operating system?

  • Re: Weird noise coming through USB using Audio Mixer on Satellite C870-1EX

    Hello!
So, my sister has Satellite C870-1EX and she's using new Audio Mixer with intergrated sound card that sends sound through USB cable to the computer (computer recognizes it as external sound card/device). This is the device: http://alesis.com/multimix8usbfx .
Few weeks ago she started noticing a very weird noise, sort of high-pitched hissing noise, like very fast electronic beeping. Something similar to what good old internet modems did when they were connecting to the phone line, just not that loud and a bit faster.
Firstly, obviously, we tested every single setting on the Audio Mixer.
Then, we got new USB cable and swapped it.
After that we also took down the whole equipment, checked all cables, untangle them if needed, swapped power source, checked different recording software, even tried some other USB recording devices etc etc.
None of that helped. Drivers are all there as well.
Here's the catch. I used the same equipment with same settings on my computer and ... no hissing noise at all. The thing is, any setting we tried, that hissing noise stays the same, nothing changes.
Even if you pre-apply some sound FX that should either boost or reduce any kind of noise in the signal that is sent to the USB port of the computer, that hissing noise stays the same.
What worries me is that something is wrong with the hardware of my sister's laptop.
The noise does not appear if we use, for example, microphone that uses 3,5mm jack or laptop's built-in mic while recording stuff in the same recording session with same software and similar settings (considering some must be different due to different input).
However, the noise appears if we use any external USB recording device on any of her ports.
Windows on her laptop were reinstalled some time ago (now she's on Windows 7), but the problem appeared few weeks later.
As I said before, drivers are all there and up-to-date as well.
So, I'm hoping one of you will come up with a (simple) software sollution ... and hopefully we won't need to take her computer back to the shop.
However, as far as it seems now, the latest is more likely to happen.
Please, tell me I'm wrong :)
    Thanks!

    Hi
A friend of mine has had an similar issue using an DJ Controller : Traktor Kontrol S4
It was not a noise but he noticed some stutter and audio drop-outs.
The problem was the background processes which were running while using the controller.
In order to solve this it was needed to disable all possible devices in device manager like WLan, LAN, Bluetooth, etc
Additionally he had to disable the Antivirus software and firewall which was running in the background.
I dont know if it helps you but I think its worth a try
One further idea: try to reduce the CPU performance. This can be done in Win 7 power management.

  • Ipod touch no longer charges with USB nor does it output sound through the connector

2 problems after the latest iOS update:
    (1) my 3rd generation iPod Touch no longer changes when connected to the computer through the USB connection.  It says that the device is not supported for connection through USB.  My computer is running Snow Leopard and all software is up to date.
    (2) it also does not output sound through my clock radio nor through the built-in ipod connection in my MINI.
This all worked great until the latest iOS update.  Something broke in the latest update.
    anyone else seeing this issue?

You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If still problem then the iOS broke full compatibility. you have to then wait for either Apple to fix the problem in an iOS update or for Honda to fix it via a firmware update/
    Have you contacted Honda?

  • No sound when streaming audio through USB to car stereo *solved*

Short version: Many months ago my wife and I had iPhone 4s with AT&T and my phone would playing streaming apps (Pandora, Slacker) over USB to my Pioneer head unit and my Ford SYNC while my wife's would not. There was no error given, it appeared to be playing fine-- there would just be no sound.
Fast forward to present and I have a Verizon iPhone 4 and I am getting the same issues as my wife was having previously.
After much forum reading about iOS4 breaking this functionality for many people across the globe with many makes and models of stereos and cars I realized I was not getting the same error as all of these people. I was getting NO error at all; I just wasn't getting any sound out of these apps.
I read a post about how a random song would kick on when they connected their phone to the car, then it hit me. My old iPhone used to do that. Then THIS hit me. I do not have any mp3s synced to this phone. Nor did my wife back then.  So I threw a handful of songs onto my iPhone and sure enough it immediately chose a song at random, started playing it and then I switched to Slacker radio and it faded down the iPod song and started streaming the audio from Slacker.
tl;dr version: If streaming apps are not playing any sound through your USB cable. Make sure you have some songs synced to your iPhone.

I found a solution, reset all settings.  Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
Fixed the problem, now back to properly streaming music!

  • Sound Problems with USB Soundcard

    Hi,
i have some problems with my Terratek USB Soundcard. I use it for Teamspeak 3 and Skype. After a while the sound is going verry crappy and robotic. After that, i have to close all apps wich are using this soundcard and then everythings ok for the next aprox 20 minutes.
Two friends have the same problem with a Hama USB Soundcard. I think this is a Snow Leo problem.
Would be nice to have a solution...
I tested on my MacMini and my Macbook Pro.

  • No sound through internal speakers on HP Pavillion G6

I can get sound through my headphones plugged in through a USB slot but only intermittent sound from the internal speakers. Using Windows 7 home. Thanks!

    Hello!
I had huge problems with my soundblaster sound card in windows7 64bit. Everyone had problems with their products in -64 bit operating system. Do You have windows 7-64 bit sound driver from manufacturer?
There seemed to be very problematic to run the best sound cards on windows 7-64 bit system and those card that work where of porer sound quality. So i had chose to go back to vista or take out my hifi wireles sound card and go with poor soundcard included in the laptop.  (i refused to go back to vista so the extra sound card  (pcmia hifi wireless soundblaster) i gave to my brother)
This whas when windows 7 was RC so maybe now everything ok?
I dont know if this problem still existwith sound cards and windows7-64 bit. Did Your system come with win-64 installed or have  you installed it by yourself?
I should also advice you to uninstall all audio hardware and software on computer, then reboot and install sound drivers and software again. If that not work then maybe something is broken :/
    Hope i helped a bit!
    Have a nice day =)
    B.regards

  • No sound through headphones/microphone ALC892

I've been trying for days to fix this issue, and am lost.  I've got a new desktop and cannot get sound to come out my headphones, or take input from my microphone.  I believe my sound card driver is installed correctly, and that it is a pulseaudio problem.  I've gone through the troubleshooter on Arch's alsa, and pulseaudio wiki pages.  I do get sound through my monitor speakers when I use HDMI, but would prefer headphones.  I have tried Debian, Linux Mint, Manjaro, and crunchbang and none of them have had working audio for me.
where I see a problem is in pavucontrol, all my profiles, and input/output devices say (unplugged).  So in output devices, and next to Headphones it says (unplugged) when it is plugged in, same with my mic.  i see the visualizer playing to the music under headphones though.
    everything is unmuted in alsamixer.
I've tried both the front panel mic/headphone port, and the back panel.
    thanks in advance.
EDIT: i did get sound to play through my roommates USB headset, they have there own sound card. So sound does work, but I cannot always use these and still want to get sound through my headphones/mic.

Perhaps you have previous configuration files on your system (~/.asoundrc or similar)? You might want to look at you mapping of signal paths/jacks with hdajackretask found in alsa-tools (Frontpanel might be inactive on your particular hardware setup). Double check if correct module model is loaded for your card (line 36).
If you kill pulseaudio, does aplay produce sound?
To unload jack detection module this should work:
    pacmd unload-module module-switch-on-port-available
Some people have issues with pulseaudio since upgrade to 5.0, so checkout changelog for configuration changes, here in forum there are several topics on this matter.
