No sound thru iPhone 3G playing music from iPod section

My wife's iPhone 3G (version 3 software) is experiencing a "no sound" issue in certain circumstances. The phone rings fine (and alerts chime), but there is no longer any sound from the iPhone when she tries to play songs from the iPod section. If she connects headphones or connects to a music dock, the sound plays fine. Further, the volume control slider does not appear at the bottom of the screen while a song is playing thru the iPhone (it does show when headphones are connected).
Also, in Settings, Keyboard Clicks is turned on but no clicks are heard when typing on the keyboard. And no sound is heard when turning off the device.
Any ideas? My same iPhone with version 3.0 installed is not exhibiting these symptoms.

I had the exact same problem the other night. I tried the reset and restore options but found these did not help.
I deleted the applications I had added since i last has sound and i found that bingo the sounds worked again. (i had added shazam and a couple others) I was able to add these back again (withouth paying again for them) after the sound was restored. Maybe if you have this problem again try deleting some apps and see how it goes.

You may need to do a Restore in iTunes.
Clicking sounds from an iPod that has a hard drive is probably not a good thing.  It is possible that your iPod's hard drive is becoming unreliable.

  • How to play music from iPod through Windows Media Player

I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence .... but just in case anyone hasn't yet figured it out, here's how to play music from your iPod on a computer that does not have iTunes installed:
On your computer, connect the iPod to iTunes and click on it's name. Then under the general tab, check "allow disk use". Your iPod will then act as a USB hard drive and will then show up as a drive in My Computer. Now all you need to do is to create a Music folder on it and then copy all your music to it!
Your iPod's USB hard drive should show up under My Computer on most Windows computers. Therefore providing the computer has Windows Media Player installed, you will be able to play all your music on it! This saves you having to bother with portable/travel speakers, some of which sound terrible anyway!

  • ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO PLAY MUSIC FROM iPod without iTunes

Hey all. I'm gonna post here an alternative way to play songs/videos from your iPod on PCs/notebooks without iTunes installed.
Let's say you're at work and wanna play music from your iPod but your workplace's PC/notebook has no iTunes and installation of any programs are not allowed. Well, what you can do is:
    1) Connect your iPod to the PC/notebook
    2) Enable viewing of hidden items/folders by going to Folder Options, click on the 'View' tab, next click on the 'Show hidden files and folders' radio button. Click OK.
    3) Go to the drive of your iPod, you should see a folder called iPod_Control.
    4) Open up the folder, and you'll see a few folders called: Artwork, Device, iTunes, Music and Tones. Open up the 'Music' folder.
    5) In the Music folder you'll see a few folders named Fn (where 'n' is a number). Open up any of these folders and you'll find your music files in it.
That's it. 5 easy steps to play music without iTunes. However, when you wanna upload songs to your iPod, please use iTunes. Hope you all found this useful!!

Right. Forgot to mention this part. I'm guessin' you tried this method. And obviously you've seen that the music files have weird file names like FZYA and so on. iTunes automatically changes the file names when you transfer your music to iPod. To know what are the title and artist of the songs are, right click on any blank space of the folder, View -> Details. If Details shows you nothing, click View -> Tiles. Hope that helps you all.
Dang, shoudln't have marked this post as a question..... -_-"

  • Play music from iPod to Mac

Is there a way to use an iPod 5th Gen as an input device on a Mac?  I've tried it with a cable on all 5 of my Macs with no luck, the sound pref panel doesn't see it as in input device.
I ask due the recent death of the network drive iTunes lib was on.  Yep, backed up but due to some time constraints there's been no opportunity to switch the source in iTunes wait while it updates the library then go in and rebuild everything. When ever I've upgraded iTunes or restored from backup iTunes looses track of everything with 4Tb of media, well you can guess. So I want to play whats on the pod through the mac till I get time to do the iTunes shuffle.
    Wordy yes, hope clear.

  • Can't play music from iPod

iPod iOS4, iTunes 9.2.1(4) and now all the music (and other content) on the iPod is grayed out in iTunes. Doesn't matter if its purchased or my own. Doesn't matter if the computer is authorized or not.

Are you saying that this is a change from previous version of iTunes as it worked before?

UPDATE: Must be that setting (Summary>Options) becomes unchecked with the iTunes update. I have checked it and Applied and now the music is accessible. What the point of that little annoying "feature" is I have know idea.

I would like to play music from my iphone 5s on a sound bar with an iphone 3 dock. Is there an adapter available that will play audio please?

The genuine Apple adapter works for me, most cheap knockoffs do not support sound ,it is usually in the micro print at bottom of the ebay offerring
It is pricey by comparison but it works and the knock offs usually don't pay the patent  licence fee hence they guess the technology that is in the lightning plug
    and charge a minimal price

  • IPhone 4S won't play music from internal speaker

My iPhone 4S is having an issue with the internal speaker. Originally, I was able to play music from iTunes, Pandora, videos, etc. w/out having headphones or an external speaker system connected to the audio input. Now, the phone isn't playing back sound from the internal speaker, unless I have headphones/speaker connected. Keyboard clicks and text message alerts are also not coming through, even though that option is turned on. The Ring/Silent button is on, the volume is on high, and I've also restarted the phone a few times. The only way I've got the internal speaker to play w/out having an external speaker system connected to the audio input is if I test different ringers; then it will playback, but not for any other audio format (videos, songs, keyboard clicks, etc.)
Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I'm out of ideas...Thank you!!

iWeb is an application to create webpages with.
It used to be part of the iLife suite of applications.
iWeb has no knowledge of the internal speaker on your iPhone.
You may want to ask in the right forum.

Success!! There truly is a light at the end of the tunnel. Apple support really did come through and I am successfully back into my account. Ready to purchase more music. I followed the instructions, with patience I thought I lost, submitted my problem, someone emailed me back within two days and all is now perfect. Thanks again Apple.

Hi, we have two iphones with two accounts.  The apple tv automatically syncs with one account to play music from the iphone to apple tv.  How can I use my iphone to do the same?

Our experience is a little different, we have different iTunes accounts for different family members, each family member has their own iTunes library on their own mac, each mac uses my Apple ID for homesharing and we are able to play purchased content from each library on the Apple TV.
