No sound using Leopard?

Hi, I am trying to use an iSight with my Mac Pro running Leopard to use Skype. The camera portion works fine but there is no sound. I have rebooted and I have checked the settings in system prefs. Is it true that Leopard doesn't support the iSight? Is there a fix?

Is it true that Leopard doesn't support the iSight?
No. Where did you hear that? My iSight works just fine in Leopard.
Is there a fix?
It's possible the Skype users may be able to answer that question for you. Check their forums - http://forum.skype.com/index.php?s=9f9dde4a0ebe390bd10240e5ba4be304&showforum=15

  • Can't record sound using the jack in/out on macbook pro 13 os x

    hi
i bought a new macbook pro 13' intel core i5 4gb with the latest os x version 10.8.2. mainly for sound and video editing
yesterday i tried to record sound using garage band and through the mini jack port. once i connected an mp3 player to the mini jack port, the sound prefrences window recognized it as headphones and not as input jack as it did on my friend's same mac with leopard os on it.
it seems like no matter what i try to do (changing instument set up on garage band, restarting the computer with the jack in or out etc...) nothing worked
i bought this mac just so i wouldn't have to deal with these kind of problems....suppose to be a very user friendly os and hardwear.
very dissapointing. please if any one has a clue what can be done?

i'm aware of my other audio interface options, but i would expact this machine to have the basic options every 20 year old pc has, a simple plug and play difault to get audio into my computer. i bought it at b and h in NY and in their specs it says that it's a 'combo kack' - meaning both in and out analog audio ports. after cheaking mac's site it says only headphones.
also tryied to connect a digidesign mini mbox2, through the usb port, and i had to unplug it, shut down the mbp, restart it again etc.. and it also doesn't always work propely and makes all kinds of digital error sounds.
although in this case i can't that the mbox is not damaged.
over all it's very dissapointing. it's my first mac and i figured it would be a much more idiot proof, user freindly work tool.
if you got any other tips i'd appreciate that
thanx alot for the focusrite link

  • No sound after Leopard upgrade PB 15 inch PPC

I recently upgraded my PB 15-inch PPC to Leopard. Installed upgrades to 10.5.8.  Now I have no sound in iTunes 10. I understand from reading other sources this is a common problem. Is there a permanent fix? Note.... PPC, therefore I cannot upgrade to Snow Leopard. Anyone tried going back to iTunes 9? (My next attempt to get sound back.) I honestly see absolutely no advantage to using Leopard. If there is no permanent fix for the sound problem, then its back to Tiger!

I'd just like to say I'm also experiencing this problem. So far the <ctrl><option>+pr reboot has worked for me every time it's occurred. Nonetheless I sincerely hope a fix will be available from Apple soon so that I (we) don't have to rely on clunky work-arounds anymore.

  • Can I use Leopard Server for a few things without a static IP/DNS mapping?

Caveat: I'm pretty capable at setting up and running macs, but not a crack server admin or anything like that. I don't write code and my eyes start to glaze over when you start talking about Kerbos and the like...
Question: I'd like to use Leopard server for a few things on my local network - with some vpn access to the same services:
    - iCal server (the most important feature) for 3 users
    - File server services for Time Machine (yes, base Leopard can do this)
    - vpn access into the iCal server for one user
Do I have to go through the headache of switching over from a dynamic IP to a static IP, setting up DNS mapping, etc? Or is there a simpler way?
    Any help appreciated. Thanks

  • Can I Boot an iMAC i7 Mt Lion using Leopard?

My 2009 iMAC 2.8 Intel Core Duo 24" 10.5.8 (Leopard) lost it's Fire Wire. (Long Story-my fault)  Shop told me it needs a logic board.  ($1400.-1500.00) Apple care is well over.  Otherwise the unit works well.  No wireless, no mobile devices.  Well as luck would have it, a while back, my wife had asked me to transfer all our home VHS tapes to Digital. (DVD)  About 12 of them. I finished 4, using iMovie 6, and added titles and other FX as well, before the FW died.  The camera that I use to transfer the analog to digital is FW 400.  So when I told her I couldn't finish the transfers, she told me to buy a new computer.
I want an to buy an iMAC 27" i7.  But I've been told by Apple and another vendor that the i7 (or i5 for that matter) won't boot using Leopard.  The reason why I want to stay with Leopard for this project and a few others I'm working on is: I'm used to iMovie 6 and other apps that won't run on the i7.  (I also spent a lot of money for iMovie 6 FX)  Of course I will eventually learn to use the newer iMovie and other apps and services that come with the i7, but I don't want to spend time learning them now.  I want to finish the VHS transfers and be done with them. I'm also working on 2 novels using Apple Works (both for 10 years - will I ever get them done?)  I've tried transferring the Apple Works stories into other various word processors, but the formatting doesn't hold. I have hundreds of pages finished on each novel so far.  I'm on disability and I'm pretty much home bound.  I was floored when my wife gave be carte blanch to buy a new Mac. I don't want to give up this windfall.
One thing I thought of was that I should be able to capture the VHS in the i7 into Quicktime.  Then save it on an ext. HD or flash drive and transfer it to my 24" iMac. (or network the two through the ethernet, which I'm not familiar with)  I'm running QT Pro 7.6.4.  Would this work?  I'm not sure what version of QT the i7 will come with.  But hopefully it won't matter?
Any suggestions or comments will be well appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • I am using Leopard but need  Mountain Lion for the Mac App Store.  How do I get Snow Leopard to be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I am currently using Leopard but need Snow Leopard to be able to get Mountain Lion. I can see this is no longer available from Apple.  How would I get it so I could then get Mountain Lion. I want the Logic 9 Mac App Store App as I don't want to have to buy the whole Logc 9 from Studio 8.
Some help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Adam

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $29.00 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS.

  • I am unable to get sound using apogee jam with my guitar. I can see input levels but no sound. What step am I missing?

I think I have done something wrong. I used my Apogee Jam on a guitar project with several audio tracks in Logic Pro 9. And while the Apogee Jam still was connected, I switched to another project with only instrument tracks (synths). I forgot to change the "Built In Input". After I did this, my guitar sounds like crap when I try to use Apogee Jam in the same guitar project, or also if I create a new project. I use Guitar Rig 5 (Native Instruments) as my guitar plug-in. But the guitar sounds strange even if I don´t assign Guitar Rig.
    Can somebody help me?

  • Using Leopards built-in fax

I'm wondering whether the built-in fax facility is going to be useable for me. I don't like this bit from Mac Help:
"The fax is sent as soon as your modem is available. For example, if you’re using your modem to connect to the Internet, the fax is sent after you disconnect from your Internet service provider"
My ADSL router never disconnects from my ISP but I do have another phone line and an old USB modem: will Leopard recognise the external modem and send/receive faxes while connected via another line to my ISP?
Like everyone I guess, fax is not a big part of my comms needs these days so I don't really want to spend money on a full-blown fax application if I can get away with using Leopard fax.

Does your disc look like *
If not, you are using the wrong disc.
Does it say Upgrade, DropIn, or OEM?
If it does, you are using the wrong disc.
Since your Mac is compatible with Snow Leopard, unless you have some pressing need to only be running Leopard, and not Snow Leopard, it is cheaper to upgrade to Snow Leopard with the regular retail box for Snow Leopard from the Apple Store. You do not need to buy the Box Set, nor do you need to buy Leopard to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
If you need Leopard for something not compatible in Snow Leopard, call Apple Support as they may still have the retail Leopard available. The online store does not, and only a few used and refurbished Mac shops still have the retail one available.

  • Images exported using Leopard are soft compared to Tiger.

I've been working on exporting images for client preview and noticed that the images I'm exporting under Leopard seem a bit soft. I checked my export settings and everything looks the same as it did under Tiger.
For comparisons sake, I exported several images that had previously been exported under Tiger and there is a definite difference. Side-by-side, the images exported using Leopard are much softer than the images exported using Tiger. The edits on these images were all previously done using Tiger.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
    I'm using 1.5.6 on 10.5.1.
    Thank you!

Everything looks fine for me from Aperture and LR. I did a clean install of Leopard and all my apps on a Macbook Pro. Are you looking at images in photoshop to compare them? Preview is not a reliable way to check for sharpness right now, since some rocket scientist decide it would be cool if you couldn't scale in set increments anymore, and the randomly scaled rendition can be very soft. As a follow-on to that thought, are the images on your web site displaying at the size you exported them at? If they're being scaled on the web page, and safari is using the same rendering engine as Preview, it's possible that it's making the images look soft.
    hope i said something useful.
    Hi Janet,
Hmmm, perhaps the fresh install is the way to go? I'm using Photo Mechanic view the exported images, not Preview or Safari. I only mentioned Preview in an earlier thread because in other discussions I've found, Preview appears to exhibit some of the same softness that myself and a few others are experiencing with our Aperture exports.
Here's a screen grab of two images rendered side-by-side in PhotoMechanic. The top image was exported using Tiger while the bottom image was exported using Leopard. The actual edits on the image (white balance, sharpness, etc) were done previously in Tiger. The only thing I did to the image in Leopard was export it.
    http://www.barbatto.com/misc/comparison.jpg
In this example, it's pretty obvious that the image exported with Leopard is much softer. Also note that the file size is slightly smaller for the Leopard exported image.
As for the images on my website, most of them were exported with Aperture under Tiger. Since I've upgraded to Leopard and have been experiencing soft images, I've been using Canon's Digital Photo Professional to export any newer shots I've placed on my site.
Regarding Lightroom, I installed the trial and its exports were flawless. They don't exhibit any of the softness I am experiencing with Aperture.
So, right now, I'm at a loss. I experience this softness on both my MacPro and MacBook Pro. It should be noted that both machines were upgraded. Perhaps I should take some time and do a clean install on one of the machines and see if my results are any different. Or keep my fingers crossed that 10.5.2 will solve my problems
    Thanks for your comments!

No sound using stereo mixer with speaker balance set between approx 95-100% of max to the right
Setup: good quality functional soundcard, fine when audio not routed via Skype, mixer enabled, Skype mic / audio auto disabled, issue present when tested using a variety of different systems, latest version of Skype was used on all machines being tested
Issue: When the speaker balance is set approx 95% to 100% to the right speaker channel using the Windows audio control no sound is generated. The issue is absent when audio is not routed via Skype. This would seem to be a Skype bug and would like to report the issue as a bug. Has anyone else encoutered this issue? Is there a resolution?
