No sound vs low volume

I recently experienced the loss of all sound on my phone. It began after I unplugged the ear phones. I could not hear it ring and I could not hear anyone on the line although they could hear me. It was basically dead for about 4 hours or until I plugged the ear phones back in causing something to reset or whatever. It works fine now and Apple asked that I call when it occurs again so that we can try and trouble shoot and narrow the problem. I may have a defective phone.
I do not think this has any correlation with the "low volume" problem that everyone is talking about. I will agree with another writer that the volume is low until you activate the speaker but I have been using the speaker/hands free since the first day so perhaps that is why I have never experienced low volume. I think if the speaker is activated everyone will experience normal sound volume.

I installed the Audigy 2 ZS last night. Updated everything, all of the drivers. I plug in my speakers, and nothing at low volume. I turn on music, and theres nothing. If I turn the volume all the way up, theres distortion, white noise, and a bunch of static, but I can hear the music very faintly. I've disabled the onboard audio, and followed the FAQ, but nothing. Any ideas?
Output volume is set with "Wave" and "Master" controls. Max the Wave and control with Master.
In many cases if PSU is weak --> you get issues of this type. Try to remove (temporarily) devices like CD/DVD, floppy, etc. (just remove power/data cables) to see if PSU is the culprit for your issue.
Also, have you checked/tried
- audio HW acceleration and SR conversion quality --> set both max
- audio codecs --> reinstallation can be helpful
- muted all other sources but the one(s) you're using (i.e. all other sources can be muted if only playing audio files)
- digital output only set properly (speaker settings/THX console)
- speakers connected as should (2/2. --> green jack, etc.) and plugs properly pushed in
- speakers set correct (2/2., 4/4., 5., 6/6., 7.)
- used different output device drivers on audio players (DS/MME/WDM/...)
- ASIO capable player --> shows if you have sound driver issue (creative/windows)
- reinstalled directX, WMP (updates audio codecs)
- etc.

  • Hp 2310 monitor low volme high pitched sound - whining - low volume

My monitor makes a low volme high pitched sound
But only if I go above 1400 x 900 resolution.
    Below that it is okay
    2 years old.
    Otherwise not a problem.
    Brightness 45
    Contrast 100
    Backllight hours 12259

It's not totally unusual that as electronic circuits age a high pitch whine will develop depending on the monitor's settings. Additionally, some people's ears are more sensitive to higher frequencies.  It happens.
    ======================
Is the monitor safe to use in the meantime while it whines?  Sometimes I have to use the higher resolutions.
Right now, it is not a big deal.  Since I use 1440x 900 and  have it set to where there is no (or an imperceptible) whine [That can alter with brightness or contrast changes] ,  am I safe to use the monitor?
At 45 for brightness, and 100 for contrast,  a 1440x900 resolution is okay - no noticeable noise.
Can  safely run the monitor with the whine, on those occasions when I have to change the resolution.
At what point should I get a new monitor?
BTW:  Changing Brightness and contrast can alter the whine,  but what works for one resolution will not work for another.
So I leave the brightness and contrast alone, and tolerate the whine if I temporarily have to change resolutions for my graphics work.
Because if I reduce the whine on a higher resolution, it will screw up my 1440x900 resolution.
    What causes this?

  • Computer freezes, then a low-volume, high pitch sound

    Hello there,
My trusty 2002 MDD is randomly freezing on me for the 1st time! Disk Warrior nor Disk Utility form external boot-ups detect anything wrong. Thus, it doesn't seem to be a hard drive issue. Memory status on System Profiler checks OK.
Once the beach ball appears I can't do anything but press the power button to shut it down. I've noticed that while frozen a very low-volume, high pitch sound can be heard. ???
Thanks a lot for any feedback that you may provide,
    Jacobo

    Hatter,
Thanks for the prompt reply. Like you proposed, I've started from my FW drive (not after a freeze though) and everything drive-related checks OK.
Yes, my video card (Radeon 9800) does have a fan. I've though about this and the PSU as well. The latter is the quieter, less powerful one.
My drives are less than a year old and seem to be OK.
I’ve run Applejack (w/ memory check) and all is good.
Can the Apple Diagnostic CD pinpoint any of these issues?
My MDD has been incredible when it comes to reliability. She has not given me ANY problems whatsoever while stressed to its limits.
    Thanks again for your time,
    Jacobo

Why is the Lumia Icon's (929) ringtone lower than when previewing the ringtone in settings/system/ringtone+sounds? (The volume is set at 30 in all cases.)

    Hello Lena,
    Yes, tried all those things.
After going back and forth with Verizon's "tier 2" technical support over the last 2 days, a chat session with Nokia, no call-backs-as-promised by your technicians, then having them reinstall the phone's software -that didn't fix the problem. So they are sending me a re-manufactured replacement phone. But not a NEW ONE, because I didn't realize the problem within 14 days. You see at first, I just figured the phone had lousy volume, until I was previewing ringtones when setting the alarm clock. The phone is about one and a half months old. I have expressed my desire that a NEW phone be sent, but NO says Verizon.
I've spent enough time, in good faith, Verizon would solve this matter, but in the process of their re-installing the software they've screwed up Backup Assistant.
    Thanks.

  • Sound is very low volume

I've done a search but can't seem to find any info re the sound volume on my bw G3. The sound out of both the front, built in speaker, and through the headphones, is very low volume output, almost but not quite muted. I've searched and adjusted the controls but to no avail. Could this be a hardware problem or software? There 'is' some movement when I adjust the volume slider but it takes the level from what would normally be 2 of 10 down to nothing. That is, there is no way for me to get the sound to levels that within normal limits. It's like the output is being blocked somehow but is still leaking through enough for me to make out the particular sound (song in this case) that I'm listening to.
Any help would be appreciated. It might not be worth puttiing any money into and I'd like to at least try.
    Michael

    Michael,
Sounds like you are ahead of the game on testing with headphones. External speakers would not make much of a difference without an amplifier.
"(is there another place to check sound output?)" If you had an AV output you could test sound out of that card. Finding a card might be cheaper than any repair bill and give you a definative answer on if their is a system software level problem.

  • Emu 0404 USB - No sound thru headphones at the front - and very low volume

I can't get sound thru the headphones at the front of my Emu 0404 USB to monitor playback and recording. At the back, however, I can connect my headphones and also obtain sound but at a low level.
In sound settings the volume option is greyed, so no help there. I am using the Emu Asio ....otherwise the card seems good quality.

Do you mean you can't control volume in your software or system master volume controller at all? This normally means that you have not selected the system audio play/recording devices correctly or you have set output mode to bit-matched.
    Also,
    - you have a switch for Direct monitoring on top of the 0404 box
    - w/ Some software, you can't enable direct monitoring in siftware settings

  • 7.6 low volume of sounds

ever since updating to 7.6.80.103 the sounds have a low volume since previous versions.
for example when wearing headphones, and i receive a message i would hear the sound very loud in my ears, now  i can barely hear it.
everything is in max setting in both skype and in windows volume sliders.
did you lower the volume of the sounds?

    Hey themky,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like a problem with the receiver on the iPhone. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • E7 - "Metallic" sound and low speaker volume. Anyo...

I have now been using my E7 for a few days and I love it, but there is one thing that strikes me. Compared to my N8, where I have crystal clear sound in the speaker, my E7 has low volume and a "metallic" tinge to the sound. I just now made a Skype call and it was the same there. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Why is the sound quality and volume in itunes so different than when I use other media players

This is an issue which has been vexing me for some time. I've researched it all over the web and have not found a worthwhile answer. Some other posts on these forums have asked similar questions without successful answers. But, none the less, I will try...
I have spent a lot of time over the last two years trying to get my itunes library organized as well as getting good digitized versions from my vinyl records as well as CDs. I was pleased with my results and then I added the songs to itunes. I could not believe how inconsistent the sound quality was. Invariably the volume is always lower. [Please do not post a reply such as: Check the volume controls in itunes proper as well as in itunes preferences (i.e., Sound Check, Sound Enhancer) & the Volume Adjustment in the Information pane under Options for particular songs.] I tried all of those means of adjusting volume. They do NOT work.
There is something more insidious at work in itunes which prevent good sound reproduction. I will give an example. I have played Frankie Valle and the Four Season's song "C'Mon Marianne" on the OS X system sound (i.e. clicking the play button to the song file when selected on the desktop or wherever it resides) as well as in Amadeus Pro. The song sounds great. When I play it when it's in the itunes' library the first part of the song is too lound and then when Frankie Valle starts singing his voice is at a significantly reduced volume.
I have edited the foregoing song in Amadeus Pro to a very high volume (i.e., Effects>Amplify), reloaded it into itunes and it still does not inprove the volume of Frankie's voice in the song, even though the rest of the song is somewhat louder. I have played with the Equalizer in itunes to no effect. It just does not work.
Now, I would glading move away from itunes and use another media player. However, I have other Apple devices through which I listen to music. And the only way I know of to listen,e.g., on the iphone is through itunes.
The other related problem with itune, or should I say iCloud, is icloud match. The icloud Match has taken great sounding music and given me back music of an inferior quality, even though it is a Matched AAC format.
I'm am sorry if I am a little peeved about this issue. If anyone has some suggestions or input to a solution, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks a bunch.

    fbuerg,
You are welcome. Glad my good fortune was helpful to you.

  • Guitar audio drop-out at lower volumes

I have tried out mainstage on a friends macbook pro, to check if it will be worth an investment into Logic over Garageband, mainly as an effects emulator for my guitar so I don't need to worry about amps in my small flat.   I connected through an Edirol UA-5 USB audio interface and while there were some issues with this interface anyway due to the fact I could only use input-1 rather than the Hi-Z Input-2 that I should use, I wanted to check some audio problems I had and see how to fix them.
Basically, at full volume on my guitar it seems to work fine, but as soon as I turn the guitar volume knob down there is literally no sustain anymore, I can hear a brief note and then it just cuts out, no gradual loss just stops.   If I only plug the interface in without mainstage then the monitor channel gives me the full volume control I expect and I tried my guitar on a proper external amp and it seemes to be fine so i've eliminated my guitar as the problem.
Anyone experienced this or have any suggestions to try to get it to work.
Also, if I use garage band I don't hear the output fromt he amp/effects simulators, only raw guitar and I only hear the final version if I record it and then play it back.  Is there a way to get Garage band to act as a amp/fx simulator in a live mode like mainstage does or is the fact mainstage is playing back through the interface what might be causing the problems in some feedback loop??   Beginning to think an iRig would have been a better option......

    Hi
Sounds like you may have a Noise Gate in there somewhere?
    CCT
yeah I thought of that but couldn't see anything, and think my knowledge of what a noise gate would do is slightly rusty since I assumed that at louder volumes it would clip and at lower volumes it would be fine....i'll have a play next time I am over my friends and see if I can spot anything.
    Thanks for the quick reply.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen sound really low when playing movies/tv shows from video app

I just bought a ipod touch 5th generation for my daughter so she can watch her movies and tv shows that i purchased on itunes. On my iPhone 5S, I have no problems with the sound... Loud and clear. However with my new ipod touch, those same movies/tv shoes have really low volume. The sound while using Apps, Games and playing music are all fine. While playing from the video app, headphones are ok too... My problem is the sound from the speaker. I don't understand why all the other functions on the ipod that use sound is OK.
I have already reset my ipod and reset all the settings too... still didnt work. Please help! Thanks

The speaker is not that good but maybe yours is defective if you have the volume fully raised.
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted and have a poor contact.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R" or "R".
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

  • Seemingly low volume for X-Fi Xtrememu

Today, the second time I booted up my computer I began to receive an interesting problem. My audio worked to some extent, but the volume was exceedingly low. I had to put my ear right next to the speakers to hear anything. I pulled out my headphones and plugged them in -- Same result, low volume. When I disabled the X-Fi and enabled my onboard audio, the volume was crystal clear and worked perfectly fine. I didn't change any software, drivers, hardware, or anything of that sort within the two reboots either.
I checked the obvious and made sure my volume was high in the X-Fi configuration panel, the windows panel, and my media players. Everything was maxed out. When I turned up my volume to the maximum on my speakers I could hear things better, but it was horribly distorted and sounded as if they were being over dri'ven. Normally I never have to increase the volume on the speakers much to hear anything, their usually on about 20-30% and I hear them perfectly fine.
I posted about this before on another site and It was recommended I try installing the latest drivers. So I decided to do an uninstall of the X-Fi drivers for good measure and, after rebooting, I installed the drivers and rebooted once more as it prompted me. The same exact result as before: sound that seems to have very low volume. After this, they recommended I try a different PCI slot as it may be damaged. I tried the other PCI slot and I had the same exact results as before. I did not want to install the card into the slot right next to my video card because it looked like the fan would be right up against the PCB of the X-Fi and that it might impede air flow and cause both cards to overheat.
Does anyone know what might be the problem? I'm using the latest drivers I saw (September 9th I believe) and the X-Fi has worked great for the past week and a half. I really don't want to have to own a $00 paperweight and revert to onboard audio.
Edit: If it helps any, I'm running on the following:
    Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe
    AMD Opteron 70
    X-Fi Xtrememusic
    GeForce 7900 GT
If you need any other info, i'll post it.Message Edited by Sagekilla on 0-22-2006 2:9 PM

Bump.. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've made a list of all the fixes I've attempted
    - Checked the volume in Creative's console, the Windows volume control in my tray bar, and in the Control Panel under "Audio and Sound devices"
    - Made sure default device was the X-Fi
    - Made sure the speakers was plugged in the right spot
    - Made sure the speakers weren't faulty (I tested with a pair of head phones and on my iPod)
    - Made sure I had the latest drivers
    - Did the diagnostic, didn't help
    - Did a system restore that made things worse
    - Switched the PCI slot the sound card was in
    - Tried onboard audio and found the audio there worked fine (I don't want onboard audio and a $00 paper weight though)
    - Made sure onboard audio was uninstalled and disabled
    - Posted on the creative labs forums and got no replies
    - Safe Mode doesn't even recognize the Sound card
I'm pretty sure this isn't something stupid like "Is the volume turned up?"

  • My low volume button doesn't work on my Iphone 4, how can I fix it?

Okay so I dropped my iphone in the parking lot garages of my apartment complex and the ground was cement, when i picked it up the screen wasn't cracked or anything so i thought it was okay but once i started listening to music and I wanted to lower the volume and so I pushed the low volume button but nothing happen....The high volume button works fine but now the low volume button so if you want to lower the volume on my phone now you have to do it manually....Also after the drop i turned off silent mode on the side and the clicking sound wasn't there and I checked in the settings, it said it was on and the volume was on but I heard no clicking sound!!! How can I solve these two problems? Can I go to an Apple Store and let them fix my iphone if I don't have AppleCare?
