No Sound What So E

I have no sound what so ever except for my Tower Beeping when there is supposed to be sound. I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall. Didnt work. Tried updating doesnt work. And when I try to update the driver it says its not installed. I cant find the driver installment software so is there anyone that can help me out or point me in the right direction. I have SoundBlaster Li've 5. model # SB0220

gimike,
Did the card stop working recently, or have you installed it new? It's an OEM card, so the drivers on the Creative site won't work as you've found. If you have the install CD, use that to reinstall. Otherwise, you may need to go back to the manufacturer of your computer. Here is one source for the XP drivers.

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

What do you mean it doesn't have sound? If it's a new machine call AppleCare, you have 90 days of support via telephone and can find the number in your owner's manual.

    Hi Brad,
when you use Streamclip to convert media, use the same name for the exported file (only with different extension). Then make a shell script calling
    touch -r origFileName.mp2 newFileName.mov
This will copy the exact time and date from origFileName.mp2 to newFileName.mov
The script may look like this (save the file, give an exec permission to it and call it in the right directory):
    #!/bin/bash
    for i in `ls *.mp2`; do
    NEWNAME=$(ls "$i" | sed -e 's/mp2/mov/')
    touch -r $i $NEWNAME
    done
You may need to adapt the extension names used (in the example above .mp2 is input file to get the date/time stamp from and .mov is the output file to stamp.
    Have fun and cheers

I purchased a HDMI cable to watch movies and slide shows from my mac book pro to my Sony Bravia TV. I get picture through the TV but no sound. What am I doing wrong?

Go to sounds in system pref and select outputs. When the hdmi cable is plug into the tv it will show as an option under output. Just select that option.

  • I'm getting errors - no drive, no sound - what's going on?

I've been using Tiger for months now with no problems at all, updating the software as necessary but with no other software additions. Yesterday I couldn't burn a CD, I kept getting the error message "error 0X80020025, disk drive not supported" This is the same drive that was factory fitted and has lasted four years so far... it took three attempts before it would recognise a blank CD or burn one, but after that I got the error message again.
today I had no sound on any application, and found that the audio had muted itself.
What's going on? How can I check the operating software, and more importantly repair it without losing everything? The most reliable OS I've ever had... don't want it to foul up now!
    Heather

    Hi, Heather.
    1. I'd not panic yet that something is going amiss system-wide. The Mute issue may have simply been due to you accidentally pressing the Mute key on the keyboard.
    2. The Error Code 0X80020025 was a known bug in 10.4.1 and earlier, corrected in 10.4.2. However, since you're running 10.4.5, there are some additional issues that can cause this problem. Assuming the burner in question is the factory-installed optical drive that came with your Mac:2.1. Corrupted Finder preferences: See my "Finder Issues? How to delete its preferences" FAQ.
2.2. PRAM or NVRAM issues: see "Macintosh: How to Reset PRAM and NVRAM."
Note that given the age of your Mac, PRAM/NVRAM issues may arise again if the internal battery needs replacement: the internal battery provides an infinitesimal amount of power to retain settings in PRAM:• The replacement battery for your Mac can be found in See "Macintosh Family: Batteries and Part Numbers, Part 2" for replacement battery part numbers.
    • The batteries can usually be found in-stock at Radio Shack stores in the US.
    • See "Power Mac G4 (QuickSilver 2002): How to Replace The Battery for instructions on replacing the battery."3. As a general checkup for your Mac, consider:3.1. Run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
3.2. Run the Apple Hardware test that came with your Mac. See my "Apple Hardware Test" FAQ for comprehensive advice on using the Apple Hardware Test in troubleshooting, including running the test in Loop Mode.Again, I suspect these are two separate problems, though if the internal battery is due for replacement, it can cause other issues, e.g. clock loses time if not set to a Network Time Server, issues with peripherals such as your optical drive, startup issues, etc.
Note that some of the information above is from the "Burning CDs and DVDs" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.

  • QEMU and SOUND: What's missing here?

This topic has been touched on before, but no definitive answer seems to have come up.  Various people have had consistant problems with getting their audio working within QEMU while running Arch as the host.  My research has lead me to believe that a functional .asoundrc file in the home folder of the user running QEMU is necessary.  Can anyone confirm this?  Also, how does this affect those using PulseAudio (such as myself)?  This issue has been lingering for years without a viable solution, and I'm ready to see one!
I hadn't thought about it, since I usually use QEMU for purposes that never require sound, but I'm running into issues with sound and a game that is not yet in the repos or AUR and figured I'd try running it within QEMU with ALSA so I don't have to destroy my PA setup in order to revert to ALSA on my host system and test sound for this game.  So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place and not sure which direction to go at this point.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated and I'm sure that everyone out there looking to have this issue dealt with in Arch, but not sure how to ask (or haven't gotten around to asking) in a different way than what's been brought up so far would love a difinitive answer just as much as I would... so ANY help would be great and I sincerely HOPE we are able to pool our resources together and fix this issue.  I'm just not sure what a fully functional .asoundrc file looks like at this point (especially one that is able to not interfere with a pulseaudio install)...

I've tested KDE, LXDE and XFCE on my systems with alsa default settings and had no sound problems with qemu.
What WM/DE do/did you use on he distros Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, or Unity Linux you tested and on archlinux ?
Do those other distros have a asound.rc in the users home folders and have you tried that asound.rc on archlinux ?

  • No sound what so ever in Windows XP.

Roughly an hour or two ago I booted my computer onto the Windows XP partition of my Hard-drive and Heard the familiar Start up noise thingy for Windows XP. I thought I would play a little Team Fortress 2 and started Steam and TF2. Once in the game I noticed that I wasn't hearing any of the usual menu music of Sound effects. I decided to quit out of the game and restart my computer, there was no log-off/shut down sound thingy. I restarted and re-booted into Windows XP and this time there was not Start up tone either. There was still no sound in anything in Windows.
I've checked and double checked all of the sound control panel and I've checked my speakers and everything is the same as it was when I was getting sound.
I've got the standard 2008 quadcore Mac Pro except that I have a Geforce 8800GT for a graphics card. I don't know how to find system information in Windows so if you need me to show you something else tell me what it is you're looking for and how to find it.

I have the same problem but my problem is on a literal desktop PC with win XPpro SP2. I installed the game and get noise from the video but then noise from the game menus or anything. After quitting it took out sound altogether on windows. I had to reinstall sound drivers but I still get no noise in game, but windows sound works fine even if I quit out of the game. Not sure what to do.

  • MacBook "operating sound" - what's normal?

Has anyone else found the MacBook to have a louder "operating sound" than the iBook?
My MacBook, when awake and just sitting idle, makes a soft whirring sound (like rushing air) that while not unpleasant, is quite noticeable. The sound comes from the upper right hand side of the keyboard, where the optical drive is.
My iBook G4, on the other hand, is totally silent.

I have a different query regarding "normal" sounds and operation--my MacBook suns virtually silent most of the time until I do something such as rip video to convert to iPod, view a websight that is flash-intensive, burn a dvd, etc and then the fan appears to kick in and it's as loud as any pc tower desktop would be.
I'm guessing it's the fan kicking in to compensate for additional processor heat with a heavier performance load but, seriously, this is normal? If it is, it absolutely totally 100% ought to be spelled out somewhere in the intro guide to exploring and getting to know a new MacBook. I looked everywhere when the fan first kicked in to find out what I did to make all that noise and have found nothing official from apple on it. If I'm wrong in my assumptionso f this being normal, then someone please correct me. If I'm right, then someone at Apple should make haste to ensure this explanation is disseminated to MacBook users.

  • IPhone 4 no sound, what to do ?

    Hi there,
I have a problem with my iphone 4. i bought it some month ago (last november) and this problem happened many time but now i'm sick of it...
The problem is that my iphone lost all sound (and it not the switch on the left side). When i try to listen some music, for example, the screen 'play' appear and it go back to the song selection menu...when i have this problem, i need to reboot the iphone many time (4-5-6 times and again...), when people call me, i can't hear them, and they can't hear me, when i try speaker, doesn't work (it like it became enable and 1 seconds after disable...can't activate it..)
I never dropped it, i never used it the wrong way. I tried restore, back up and still not working or work for sometime (1 week or less) before the problem come back.
Some people say that is a problem with the headphone connector, but it is not...when i up the volume "(headphone)" don't appear.
What can i do ? some people had this problem?
    Sorry for my poor english

I got my iPhone a week ago and noticed an intermittent problem which I initially attributed to newbie ignorance. This morning no sound whatsoever. I searched and found several solutions that worked for others but not for me. I even did a Restore. Finally I found this - press on the corner that has the antenna problem.
Now I knew about the antenna issue, but not which corner has the antenna so I pressed on corners (squeezing between thumb and forefinger) until I got to the bottom right and voila! Success! My sound has returned.
I will probably be taking a little trip back to AT&T/Apple to have a little discussion about this, but until then, I guess I know what to do.
