No sound when burn movie to dvd (premiere elements 3, sony vaio, vista)

Hi,
When I burn a movie to DVD using premiere elements I end up with no sound.
Analyzing the VOB with avicodec reports it has no audio track - and I get the same problem if burn to a folder or direct to a disc.
Exporting to mpeg or other formats works without problem.
Also - when I try the burn, I find a large .wav file in the temporary files folder, which seems to match the sound the DVD should have.
But for some reason PE isn't combining it into the VOB?
My current workaround is exporting as mpeg, and importing this to moviemaker and burning from there - but it's a pain to do this.
I saw some posts about this topic from last year - and mentioning VAIO as a common factor - but none of the sugggestions there have worked, and I can't find any solution/new info. Apologies if I've missed something in the forums.
Any info/suggestions would be much appreciated!
cheers,
Mark

Sadly, we see a number of problems that are unique to the VAIO.
Sony is notorious for rewriting the operating system to fit their needs. Still, you'd think, if Premiere Elements came bundled with it, it would at least work with the system.
I highly recommend manually updating the operating system and firmware (these things become outdated weekly, and outdated firmware can really wreak havoc on your machine), clearing off the junkware, optimizing Vista and making sure you have the latest version of Quicktime and, if you're using Premiere Elements 3, that you have installed the 3.02 patch. These links to the FAQ library at the top of this forum will show you how.

And, if all that fails, it might well be worth a call to Sony, since they supposedly built and tested their machine and software before they sold it.

  • Error when adding .MOV file to Premiere Elements 10

Im trying to add videos taken on my ipad to a new project in Premier Elements 10, but I get this error:  Add Media Failure = The importer reported a generic error.
I've read that .mov is just some sort of container and I might need to download a codec of some sort.  Has anybody already solved this problem and can just dumb it down for me?  Im new to all this - its just a hobby, so Im not very technical.
    Thanks!

If you open the MOV in Media Info or G Spot, what does it show as its resolution, frame rate and codec?
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
As you've said, the MOV suffix itself doesn't tell you much. Inside that package could be any of hundreds of possible codecs, most of which won't digest well in Premiere Elements.
Meantime, are you on a Mac or PC? What operating system are you using? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime on your machine, per the program's requirements?

  • Flickering distortion when burning movies to DVD

I've noticed that regardless of the source of the movie/photos (digital, scanned, different cameras/camcorders) when the project is finished on a DVD and plays on TV (whether old-fashioned or HD) there are always some sections that have a flicker or shimmer distortion whereas other sections are smooth. I assume this is par for the course and has to do with the conversion process (it plays without distortions on the computer). Is there any software or hardware that can create a more perfect DVD?

I recently downloaded Picasa, not too familiar with it, but will try your suggestion with my next project. Incidentally, just got a DVD re the recent birth of my great nephew, done professionally. Many still photos with Ken Burns effect done as a movie with music. I noticed, the quality was perfect, no flicker distortion whatsoever. So why we have such a problem here? Guess, the processing software for iMovie and iDvd are not up to snuff. Wonder if Final Cut Express Pro and iDVD pro will produce better results. I have both of these programs but I'm too intimidated by their complexity. I might try it if I knew I could get better results. Anyone knows?

  • Elements 9 Projects plays fine on computer however when burned to a DVD it drops the last part

    Hello,
this is my first post and first Question ever on Adobe site. I hope thatt someone can help. I have used Elemenys 3.0 for a number of
years. I have now upgraded to Elements 9. I am having an odd problem with a project that I am working on. Everything seems to be OK on the EDIT
and on  the DVD PREVIEW mode ; However when burned to a DVD, I am loosing the last part of the project, and the laat  scene button does not take me to the correct scene, It takes me to the one just BRFORE it. When the burning process is done, it shows that it all went well. No error messages. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what is causing this?

    hi photonutguy,
Since your question is about burning your video to a DVD disc, it is actually an Adobe Premiere Elements question. This forum is specifically about Photoshop Elements and is frequented by people who use Adobe Photoshop Elements for their photos.
there is a separate forum for Adobe Premiere elements where you will find the people knowledgeable in the video process for burning that DVD with menus at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements
So  I recommend that you post your question at that Premiere Elements forum .

  • Lost all my sound when playing movies and shows from internet

i seemed to have lost all sound when playing movies from internet.  i still have "system" sounds and beeps?

The speaker is not that good but maybe yours is defective if you have the volume fully raised.
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted and have a poor contact.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R" or "R".
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

  • I am trying to edit a .mov video in Premiere Elements 12, but the video and audio do not sync.  They work fine when played in Quicktime.

    Hello,
I am trying to edit a .mov video in Premiere Elements 12, but the video and audio do not sync as soon as I load it into the program.  It appears to work fine in Quicktime.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. This is the plan.
Open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to the Expert workspace.
In the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, select the project preset
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD LITE 720p30
OK out of there. In the New Project dialog that appears, note that it has your new project preset named.
Be sure to put a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". And, then OK out of there.
Back in the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, use Add Media/Files and Folders to bring your video
into Project Assets. From Project Assets drag your video to the Timeline Video Track 1/Audio Track 1.
Is there an orange line over the content in the Timeline. See screenshot for orange line to which I am referring.
There should be no colored line over the content if the project preset matches the video properties. But, if you do see
that orange line, then render the Timeline content by pressing the Enter key of the computer main keyboard or press
the Render button above the Timeline.
Do your video/audio now play back in the Edit area monitor in sync?
Please let us know the result, and then we will decide what next.
    Thanks.

  • How do add .mov files in Premiere Elements 11 with Windows 8? I get a generic error message.

How do add .mov files in Premiere Elements 11 with Windows 8? I get a generic error message.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your quick response. The original movies were taken on a Canon ES970 (1990's). I don't know the resolution but things were not as high tech back then.,.. I used a Roxio software to convert them on my MacBook Air. I didn't realize that I could use Adobe Premiere Elements to do that or I would have. However my old camera did not have a cable to attach it to a computer and the Roxio software came with it.
I then saved the recordings on an external hard drive. I did not make movies from them using iMovie or edit them in any way. They are simply .MOV files and they can be played on my Mac. Upon realizing how much memory it takes to work on videos, I decided it might be easier to burn DVD's on my husband's  new Dell desktop that came with Windows 8. I downloaded Quicktime as suggested and still the movies can't be added to Premiere.

  • Premiere Element keep crashing in vista

is there a way to avoid Premiere element keep crashing on Vista Home edition?
My project has about 700 video clips and I am adding about 150 clips in the timeline and adding some transitions. I don't think I am doing some crazy editiing. However, it just keep crashing and close the application. does anyone know how to avoid it or any work around?
Right now i have to save my project every 5 minutes to save my work, this is like going back to 70's.

And make sure you have Vista SP1 and at least 2 gigs of RAM and that you've optimized the operating system so that you're not wasting resources.

But Paul's definitely right. Particularly if you are editing other than video from a miniDV camcorder, your project is excessively large. The FAQs at the top of our forum tell you how to work on a large project in small parts.

  • Exported QTmovie doesn't play properly when burned on a DVD AS a QT movie!

I exported my video using export>QT movie and "saved" on my desktop. Its 5 minutes and 1.1GB. When I drag from my desktop to my QT movie applicatoin, it plays perfectly. HOWEVER, if I take that same movie and burn to a DVD as a QT movie for others to just play using their QT players, the movie on the DVD starts and then the video stalls and then starts and stalls etc. I tried seveal times and even used different computers to try it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

dvd drive can only read so much data per second. data is terms of bytes, mega, giga, tera etc. the rate at which data is exchanged is referred to as the bit rate. doing crude math one can determine the bit rate of your video or you can right-click the file get info and see the bit rate. It's not the entire size of the file it's the amount of data that is transferred per second.

  • PREMIERE ELEMENTS 7 CLOSES WHEN BURNING PROJECT TO DVD

Hi - I am a new Premiere Elements 7 user. After completing my first project, I attempted to burn to a DVD. I clicked on Share - then Disc. A message came up saying there was a problem and Premiere had to close. I tried this several times.
I did post this problem on Muvipix.com, and received several suggestions from Steve and Chuck, but none of them worked and I'm not sure if they really understood the problem although they did try very hard to help me.
I switched over from Pinnacle because of all the problems I had with them, and I was hoping it would be a simpler process with PE7, but this supposedly basic function isn't working.
I have a brand-new Dell Computer (one month old) with these specs:
    Intel Core 2 Processor (2.33Ghz, 1333F SB) w/Quad Core and 4MB Cache
    6GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1067 MHz
ATI Radeon HD 4850 XT 512MB
    750GB Hard Drive 7200RPM
Vista Home Premium Operating System (64-bit)
    16X DVD+/-RW and 16X DVD-ROM
    So it's a loaded computer.
I would appreciate any help I can get to solve this problem.
    Thanks.
    BOB FLEISHMAN

    Bob,
I found that by removing everything except Windows, re-starting, installing latest version of Quicktime, re-starting, installing Elements 7, re-starting and then re-installing the rest. It's very time consuming but it eventually works and one can export mpeg as well as burn DVDs.

  • Video clips lost its sound when burned from idvd6

HELP! I created a 55 min. imovie and when I burn it using idvd6 some of the clips loose their sound completely. The clips play in preview mode both in imovie and idvd. It's after its burned and played on my TV where the sound is gone on only some of the sclips. On others it's fine.
The clips came from VHS tape dumped on to a Hi 8 tape and then imported through a firewire into imovie. But again I stress some of these VHS clips play just fine. Any ideas? I need this for a High School Graduation party (which is going to be the main entertainment) for July 7. Thanx

I've also got same problem. Interestingly enough, background music added to DVDs title page plays OK on the burned CD (everything previews perfectly). However, go to 'play' the burned DVD, and while the video is there, the audio tracks are silent. Source material is an iMove project, and audio tracks are all AIFF files.
Also tried physically burning the DVD with Disk Utility. DVD burns OK, but on playback (both on home stereo DVD player, and on Mac), title slide and background music works fine, but after selecting to play the movie, the audio tracks are all gone... only silence This is with burning directly from iDVD, or by saving the project as an img file, and then burning it to DVD via Disk Utility.
    Any clues appreciated!

  • How to burn movie onto DVD???

I have made a movie that is about 5 minutes long. All I want to do is burn it onto a DVD so that it plays like a typical DVD movie. In other words, when I insert the DVD into a computer or DVD player, it just plays.
I tried making a Quicktime movie out of it at full quality but when I burned it onto a DVD, all of the text in the titles came out badly jagged. I tried sharing it with iDVD but it wanted me to create themes and other stuff that was way more complex than I wanted.
How do I burn my movie onto a DVD so that it just starts playing on a DVD player or on a computer?
    Thank you!

It sounds like you have a burning application besides iDVD. You can skip the Export step by using the existing Quicktime version of your movie to see if that helps your titles (right click your iMovie and Show Package Contents; look in the Shared/iDVD folder and drag that Quicktime movie to the menu area of Roxio Toast or whatever you're using). Small fonts with curly elements don't work well; try a san serif font like Arial or Helvetica and make it large.
Converting video into a format for set-top players is fairly complex work for the computer and some of that requires user decision-making. One idea is to get one of the "Missing Manual" series by David Pogue. You'll get lots of ideas and his explanations are decent. A number of people post here wanting an autoplay DVD -- iDVD can do that, but menus can add another level of enjoyment to your project.

  • Burning movie to DVD after it was already done

Created a movie in iMove HD6, burned it to DVD. All is great!
Days later, I need a few more copies, and iMovie wants to do the long rendering process again.
Since it was done once, is there a way to expedite the process?

No, you will need to do the long rendering process again, because you burned directly from iDVD. But, as long as you have to re-encode again, instead save your iDVD project as a Disk Image (an option on the File menu) and burn your DVD from the Disk Image using the Disk Utility application on your Mac. The rendering process will be done only once, when you create the Disk Image. After that, you can burn as many DVDs as you want, in as many different sessions as you want, from the Disk Image with Disk Utility without any more endoding. Takes about 1/10th of the time.

  • Very Poor Quality when burning to regular DVD

Can somebody tell me why when i burn to regular dvd the quality looks like a vhs video which is out of focus ?  When i burn to blu ray its crystal clear !!  I dont expect great great quality but i would expect something that is watchable !!

Well if you are working with Premiere Elements 10 or above and want high Blue ray Quality content on DVD discs, then you have got the option of AVCHD disks in Share->Disc->AVCHD.
But due to high bit rate, the amount of content that can be burnt on to AVCHD disks is much lesser than on to DVD disks.
You can change the bit rate and increase the amount of content that can be burnt(but that will once again start diminshing quality)
You will have to manage this quality-size tradeoff.

  • Aliasing When Burning 16:9 DVDs

for weeks, i've been trying to improve my HD to SD conversion. the MPEG2 always looked great on my computer monitor, but i saw aliasing and jaggies on my television when i watched the DVD. i now think i've discovered that my downconversion is fine, but it's the 16:9 aspect ratio that is making my DVD look bad.
on a hunch, i created a "matted" 4:3 version of my HD timeline, and burned a 4:3 DVD (with black bars on top and bottom embedded in the video), and it looks great! but why is that? i've tried multiple TVs and multiple DVD players, and every anamorphic DVD has jaggies on the text and angles...but when i burn a matted 4:3 of the same timeline, it looks perfect. any ideas?

No, that is not the way it should work. This may help:
