No sound when changing to guitar driver in Logic

I just bought an M-audio Fasttrack so I could start recording with my guitar. Works fine in Garageband: When I want to use my guitar I go to the audio preferences and change the audio input to "Fasttrack" instead of the "Built in input".
When in Logic Express however, things doesn't work as smooth as up above. To get my guitar working I have to change the driver under the "Core audio" preferences to "Fasttrack", much like in Garageband really. Then I select an audio track and I change the I/O input from 1 to 2. Now I can't hear what I'm playing, unless I connect my external speakers to the Fasttrack (then I can hear my guitar on them of course), but I can see the parameters down in the left corner moving, indicating there's "life" so to speak. And sure enough when I record something and change the audio driver back to "Built-in input" I can hear what I just played - but then I can't record with my guitar!
Basicly the problem is, that I have to switch between the drivers in Logic to first record with my guitar, and then when I want some sound coming out of Logic (anything at all) I have to switch the driver back again :S

I'm having a similar prob. Check my post at

  • Buzzing sound when plugging in guitars

I've been getting this buzzing sound when I plug in any electric guitar or bass into my computer's audio input. This used to happen only when I used my telecaster, and I figured it was just the make, but now it's happening with my other electric and to basses to... it also varies in volume depending on the day.

Buzzing and hum can be caused by a lot of things. Your tele was probably getting the buzz from a single coil pickup.
First make sure it's not your guitar cable, it's a long wire just like a antenna and can pickup stray noises from RF and electromagnetic devices.
Bad ground in your guitar or bad solder joint guitar or cable.
Move things around lights, speakers, TVs, computers and just about anything electrical can cause noise.

  • Update of links in Indesign CS6 when changing asset via drive

    Hi,
i am having an issue regarding the integration of Adobe AEM with InDesign CS6 via Drive:
I have a indd document that has a link to an image, both are stored on a Adobe AEM 5.6.1 server and accessed via Adobe Drive 5.0.2.
Now i tested the use case that the asset is changed and replaced on the AEM instance. I expect that InDesign tells me that the link has updated when I am opening the file the next time and the new asset is shown.
Unfortunatly this expectation occurs very unreliably and I managed to update the image only a few times.
However, if i link to an image on my local hard drive and i change it, InDesign reacts immediatly. So i think that Adobe Drive is the responsible part.
So my question is: does anyone have the same experience when integrating InDesign with AEM via Drive and does anyone know a best practise to reliably update images when the target of a link has changed?
    Best regards,
    Holger

While writing I made a mistake... It is true I could become aware of the Scorpio incompatibility.
I also tried the same identical procedure with a Seagate one. This disk and the same procedure was performed by some people I know on many MacBookPro Mid-2010 and everything was OK.
We do not understand why this problenm occurs.
Furthermore, If I installed the system on the broken HDD (that works, but sometimes it fails so badly and makes the system experience kernel panic) I could boot from it.
I guess it is because of the **** Apple FIrmware written on the label.
Is it possible that I cannot manage to boot from my new HDD because it has not a "special" feature on it that makes it compatible with apple??? Why making things so **** difficult my god a closer world like Apple one is impossible to imagine.
However Shootist007 thanks for your message, but given what I said I do not think is a cable problem.

  • Very low sound when I connect guitar

    Hello
When I connect my guitar to logic via fast track ultra I can barely hear the sound, it's so low. Instead I have to use logic plugins make it sound at normal volume. How can I get this normal?
    Kind regards
    Frankensten

My guess is you're not plugging into a Hi-Z input.
In other words, when DI recording a guitar, because the signal is naturally very quiet, a line level input is no good. Many interfaces these days have a designated Hi-Z input, so check (I'm not familiar with yours). If you don't have this option you can buy cheap units (DI Boxes) that do the job.
This should solve your problem and give you the right amount of gain.
(Again, don't rule out volcanic ash)

  • No sound when changing formats.

    Hi there,
appologies if I'm being a total retard about this, but when I export from quicktime pro to change the format of file, the new file never has any sound.
Is there some really obvious setting I have overlooked? If not I can provided more info about my system versions and settings etc.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

appologies if I'm being a total retard about this, but when I export from quicktime pro to change the format of file, the new file never has any sound.
This usally happens when the source file contains a "muxed" stream of audio and video data (e.g., MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, some AVI formats, some MJEPEGs, etc). The problem stems from your attemt to mix two different technologies. QT Player/Pro is a "frame-to-frame" synchronization application. "Muxed" files, on the other hand, contain a single stream of data in which blocks of video data are interspersed with blocks of audio data in order to mainatain synchronization. The normal solution in this case is to use a hybrid application like MPEG Streamclip (free), iSquint (free), etc. MPEG streamclip is a more general solution in that it can convert "muxed" files to any QT compatible format (or any format for which you have a QT compatible codec component) but requires you have the MPEG-2 component ($$) or use the KL QT alternative tools package (free) which includes its own MPEG-2 component. Other application like iSquint were designed for conversion to iPod, PSP, or similar target formats and, therefore, may be more limited in scope than you desire.

  • Windows media player does not recognize new CD when changing CDs in drive

I have a ThinkPad R61i that was purchased with a preinstalled downgrade from Vista to XP professional.  Whenever I rip CDs using the built in DVD/CD player/burner, WMP doesn't recognize a new cd when I put one in.  I am running WMP 11 for XP.  The first CD is recognized after some switching around between tabs and, after it finishes burning it ejects the CD but when I put a different cd in, WMP acts like it still has the original CD.  It will play the new CD and rip it but it rips over the original CD's file with the original CD's track listings.  Anyone have this experience?

  • Headphone sound only when changing level or balance

    Hi,
I have a weird problem with my Logitech B530 USB headset.
I have configured it as the main input and output device in system settings, but I only hear sounds when changing sound level or balance. So if I e.g. start some music in iTunes I hear nothing, if I then increase/decrease the volume I hear the song, but the sound quickly fades away and there is no sound again. The same thing happens if I change the device balance.
Has anyone experienced anything similar and/or have any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks,

  • Fuzzing Sound When Bouncing

When i bounce to an MP3, I am getting a strange static-y buzzing sound. I don't know that much yet about mixing properly, but so far, with all the songs I written, I haven't had this problem when bouncing. I don't hear this sound when listening to the song in Logic, just when it's bounced. Any suggestions? Is this related to the mix, to something I might not know about yet?
    Thanks!
ps. What is the standard way that people communicate back and forth. When I make a post and someone responds and I want to say thank you, is it standard to post thank-you replies on the board? OR does that clutter up the postings?
    Thanks much,
    Sarah

If you're new to mixing, the best advice that I can think of is to mix down to a basic AIFF to get the feel of it. I have discovered that I haven't had any difficulties mixing down to an MP3 as long as I have an AIFF as well. Ensure that your PCM checkbox is checked and set it accordingly when you bounce.

  • No sound or strange sounds when trying to record guitar

    Hi!
I'm new to Logic Pro, after having worked with garageband for many years.  I've just been trying to record guitar through my audio interface, with strange results.  I've set my audio in and output source as my M-Audio firewire solo, created an audio track, and selected the guitar sound I want.  At first there was no input, then when I deleted the first track and created a new one, I could hear the guitar through the monitor and it was being input, but it had a horrible distorted and out of tune sound - and that was how it sounded when I recorded it too.  Then I tried it again and it seemed to be working fine for about 5 minutes - it sounded fine through the headphones and the recording was right - but then went back to the strange sounds again - without me changing anything!
I'm using Logic Pro 9.1.8, on a Macbook Pro running Mac OSX 10.8.3, and have a M-Audio Firewire Solo audio interface.
I'm very frustrated right now - so I'd be grateful for any help!
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Hi stephenhis,
If you are having issues with imput audio in Logic Pro, the first place to start would be with some basic isolation troubleshooting to see if the issue can be localized. That should provide a good basis for further troublshooting should the issue persist.

When using the HDMI output (from my iMac, into my Lenovo laptop) my default sound output preferences are being changed since upgrading to Yosemite.
I have an external sound card for my monitor speakers. the sound card is my default in and output.
When I insert the HDMI into my laptop (and use the iMac as an external monitor for my laptop) Yosemite changes the default sound output to the iMac internal speakers.  I've used the keyboard to (cmd + F2) and toggled between the laptop external display and iMac home screen and can see the sound output changed to internal speakers)

Any ideas if there is a work around for this?

    Hi,
Please try this first to enable Speakers in Playback devices as follows:
    1. Right click speaker icon (bottom right hand corner)
    2. Select Playback devices
    3. Right click HDMI sound
    4. Enable it
    5. Click Apply/Ok
