No sound when exporting movie to Ipod

I recently got myself an iPod video 30gb and i tried to export a couple music videos to my ipod. I follow the exact instructions on the web site http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html
But still when i get the video on my iPod i find that after the export there is no sound. Is there some way to fix this problem?
And one more question is it possible to export avi. files to your iPod?
Thanx

You CAN use mpeg-1 if you first convert it to another format with a separate utility. One that will do the conversion is the freeware VirtualDub. Open the mpeg-1 in VirtualDub and then use Save as Avi in the File menu. The default format will be uncompressed avi, which QT will read and from which it will export both sound and video. Uncompressed avi files are very large so you may need to convert is in short segments.
If you have the correct decompressor to play an avi in Windows Media Player then you can use VirtualDub to change the audio to a QT friendly format. Open in VDub, change the Audio to Full Processor Mode and set audio Compression to IMA or uncompressed (PCM). Set Video to Direct Stream Copy. Then save a copy under a new name. The video will be copied through unchanged but the audio will be converted to a QT compatible format so you can then do the conversion in QT Pro.

  • No sound when exporting videos to iPod

It blows! I have bought the new iPod with video. When I export videos to iPod format in quicktime Pro, after eternal times of waiting for small videos, it results that it doesn't export them with audio. Any ideas? Any solution to this problem? How to make it faster? I cant imagine how much it will take if I convert a movie or something... Any other free software for this?
    Thank you very much.

Are you attempting to convert mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 in QT? QT does not export the sound from those formats. QT Mpeg Limitations
If it is mpeg-1 you can use this freeware Windows app to convert to uncompressed avi. QT will read that format and will export both sound and video from it. VirtualDub
Open the mpeg-1 in VDub and then use Save as Avi in the File menu to save the new file.
As far as speed goes, you could try using mpeg-4 instead of H264 compression. H264 does nice work but is just plain slow.

  • No sound when converting movies to ipod in itunes

Ever since i received my ipod i was having problems converting my movies to ipod format. It takes a few hours to convert and then when its done i get no sound (movies are currently on my computer just not ipod ready.) I've made sure i have the latest version of itunes. Other than that i couldnt find any trouble shooting tips. I also tried converting using Quicktime pro. That was just a complete waste of time. It says it converts in about 4 seconds, when i go to open the file its just a snapshot of my computer screen instead my movie. (i go into export, pick the file, then select movie to ipod. also tried movie to mp4) Any ideas on what to do?!?!

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

  • No sound when exporting .mov

Can someone please look at these HBO videos and tell me why none of them will export with audio?
    http://www.hbo.com/deadwood/video/index.shtml
All the HBO online videos are like this, they have no audio when exported.

    You can't "save" streaming media.
Therefore you can't "export" the file.

  • Why no sound when exporting movie?

    Pretty new to Quicktime Pro.
When I try to export a .Mov file for email purposes (or any other setting) the sound option is greyed out and the movie exports with no sound?
    Quicktime Pro 7.04

How To Identify the file*, video and audio** format of a movie or sound file
    In QuickTime Player
    Open the file
Window menu > Show movie info
    Look in the Format: field
Note that QuickTime Player may fail to display any audio information for some files.
    In MPlayer OSX:
Show the playlist window if it isn't already visible.
Drag the movie file into the playlist window.
Select the movie in the list
Click the "i" button for info
    In VLC
    Open the movie in VLC
    Window menu > Info
Click the black triangles so that they point down
Note that VLC does not display the file format, only the format of the content (audio and video) within the file. A file ending in .divx for instance, is probably in actuality an avi file but VLC doesn't show that information - MPlayer will and QuickTime Player will - if - QuickTime Player will open the file to begin with.

  • No sound when download movies to ipod

I bought a ipod 80gig and tried to download a movie and a couple of music videos I had on computer. I import them into itunes7 and convert them then download to ipod. movie will play but no sound. I've tried resetting and deleting and downloading again but no luck. Any suggestions???
    Thanks, Todd

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

  • Settings that equal 'export movie to ipod (320 240)'

what settings can be used in the mpeg-4 export settings(h.264) and movie to Quicktime movie (h.264) that will duplicate those preset in the Movie to ipod (320x240).?
I believe the only way to make h.264 files for the ipod is be using the export movie to ipod settings.
    am I right?
The movie to ipod export setting works for me, but when i use the movie to mpeg4 - h264 - to convert the file I can not load the movie on to the ipod.
(the apple spec say h264 baseline up to 1.3 768kbs etc)
But when those settings are used, i.e.
    mpeg-4 export settings:
    H.264/ 650 / download
    custom / 320 180
    29.97
    automatic
restrict profile to baseline/ best quality.
will produce A file at 600kbs for me.
this file can not be transferred to ipod. (even though it matchs the ipod tech spec's)

The "specs" for video iPod formats:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
You can also export video (supported formats only) directly from the iTunes app.
    No need for QuickTime Pro.

  • Lost all my sound when playing movies and shows from internet

i seemed to have lost all sound when playing movies from internet.  i still have "system" sounds and beeps?

The speaker is not that good but maybe yours is defective if you have the volume fully raised.
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted and have a poor contact.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R" or "R".
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

  • When exporting, movie always tries to fade to black toward the end

when exporting, movie always tries to fade to black toward the end. trying to export just one picture, i realize that when exporting multiple pics to a movie it fades to black at the end, but im just doing one pic. settings are as follows, ken burns effect is being used, settings in slideshow, transition are "none". settings in "adjust" show transition as "none" also. this is my first post so hope that this makes sense. thanks.

    wcminor:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I tried to duplicate your settings and exported to a QT movie. The movie did not fade to black at the end. It does fade when played in iPhoto.
    My settings were:
    In the slideshow window:
    Effect: none
    Default transitiion: none
    In the settings pane:
KB is checked, transition is none.
It's the same whether there's music or not.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Lose sound when exporting MPEG with QuickTime to iPod format

I paid the $30 to be upgrade to QuickTime Pro in the hopes that I would be able to export MPEGs from my digital camera for viewing in iPods. The video comes out fine but there is no sound. Any suggestions regarding how to get the sound to export too?

    Thanks; the discussion is helpful.
When I downloaded the MPEG Streamclip software from http://www.squared5.com/; the conversion process was agonizingly slow. As an example, a single 6 minute Quicktime movie took hours to convert. After it was converted, then it not was recognizable by iTunes. So, MPEG Streamclip has not worked for me.
This seems like such a straightforward process that Apple would support. Basically, you can create iPhoto albums that synchronize with iPods; however you CAN NOT create Slideshows that synchronize with iPods. This is so frustrating since the slideshows have much more functionality and presumably would be what most people would find most useful. The process to get a slideshow to the iPod requires you to go through Quicktime and then Quicktime to ipod; this process only occassionally seems to work.
Anyway, Quicktime Pro, the $30 application, seems to sometimes work and sometimes not work for conversion of Quicktime files to iPods. I tried using non AAC protected audio files for the iPhoto slideshow sound and the conversion from Quicktime to iPod worked. In other cases, the conversion from Quicktime Pro to iPod did not work. I am at a loss to explain consistently what is happening when you use Quicktime to export to the iPod. When I open the Quicktime movie file the option to Export to iPod is grayed out. However, when I open the Quicktime application the option is black and available.

  • No sound when exporting for iPOD

Can someone please tell me why I am getting no sound when I export any of my quicktime video for iPOD use? The video comes out great, but there is no sound to accompany it. I upgraded to Quicktime Pro just for this purpose and am having no luck. I have tried a few different videos, but have had no luck with this sound issue.

  • [PE9] noise or no sound when exporting

I'm putting together a video from a trip. After a while, my computer started getting slow and Premiere Elements almost instantly showed a memory error when opening my project. So I arranged a faster computer to borrow for a while, which solved the memory problem.
Now I want to share/produce/export my project as a movie, so I can watch it and write down things I want to change. Rendering as an avi results in an "unknown error", other formats seem to work fine apart from the sound. I either get a continuous noise or no sound at all. I literally tested every output possibility in PE9.
I assume it's not the project itself, because I did preliminary exports before which looked and sounded fine. The difference is: those exports where made on my own computer, the one that got to slow in the end. So it's not the footage used, everything sounds just fine in PE itself.
The new computer is brand new, with barely anything installed except for PE9, Windows, VLC and Chrome. Is it possible the computer lacks the proper audio encoder(s)? I thought those would be installed with PE9...
    So in short:
    - old computer exports movies perfectly fine, but when I open my project PE9 exits immediately, due to not enough memory. I simply can't open my project anymore.
    - new computer can handle the load, but produces noise or silence instead of the sound.
I exported two very short clips, one in MPG and one in MP4, the export settings are in the filenames. Both clips are the same content-wise and you should hear a bit of Johnny Cash as the soundtrack. But you won't.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4832845/HD%20720p%2030.mpg
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4832845/iPod%20and%20iPhone%20-%20High%20Quality.mp4

Sorry, it's been a while since I had the time to dive into PE9 again. I updated the audio drivers and installed Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. That seemed to solve the problem briefly, because when I exported a short bit of the project, I had the correct sound. When I tried it again a while later, it was the old noise again. Very weird...
I continued my project in a new project (because the first one seems to be too much for PE9 to handle) and when I export bits of the new project, everything is fine. So it's probably a file used in the first project that causes the mayhem. Maybe one of the mp3's I'm using, although they're all self ripped from my own cd collection.
Still weird that it renders ALL of the sound useless when exporting. Also, PE9 doesn't indicate file problems (as I've seen in the past, with the little yellow danger triangle in the bottom left corner). I guess I'll have to split the project up in several smaller projects and see if I can isolate the troublemaker that way.
I didn't have the time yet to figure out the video codec used, but all footage is from the same camera and the mp3's used are self ripped. The computer has now been updated to the max.
I did however start the first project in PE8 and continued with PE9 later, when I moved to a new computer. But that shouldn't cause my audio to be messed up, should it? Using any of the standard presets results in noise or silence. I've tried them all
Also, when I export the new project (which was started in PE9), it exports to avi just fine. When I try avi in the first project (started in PE8, continued in PE9), I get the "unknown" error and exporting to avi or wmv is not possible.
