No sound when playing mpeg files

I can't get quicktime to play sound when I try to play videos that are mpeg files. I already downloaded mpeg-2 playback as well as Perian 1.0 but it still won't play sound. Any suggestions?

Solution
1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities/), then check the Audio Output setting.
2. Change the Audio Output setting to 44100.0 Hz.
3. Quit Audio MIDI Setup.
KB article - No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4)
Another trick: If you have GarageBand installed, open it (maybe open a GarageBand document) and then quit out of the application.

  • Cannot get any sound when playing .avi files

    Hi All
I am running QT version 6.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.2.8 and cannot get any sound when playing .avi files but the picture is perfect.
I have installed the following: M-Peg 2 playback component, AVI Components and AC3 component.
Does anyone know if I am missing anything or how I can fix this?
    Many thanks

Download and install Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

I've looked through the forum and downloaded Perian and DivX and tried deleting the DivX files out of the Quicktime folder, but still no sound when playing one of all my AVI files. If I click on the icon for the video, I can play it through there with sound, but when I actually open the file in Quicktime, there's no sou

But there's no sound when actually opened.

Did you try both Quicktime applications?  There is also Quicktime 7x which is located inside the Utilities folder.

  • No sound when playing .pps files

I occasionally receive .pps or .ppt files from my mother but usually can't hear any sound when playing these slide shows. Most recently, I took the same inaudible presentation she sent me, renamed the file and sent it back to her and the music accompanying the renamed slide show played fine for her. Any idea what's going on?? My mother does not create these files but just forwards them along to me. She uses a Windows XP machine and I use a Mac if that makes any difference.

I'm having the same problem. Evidently, the Mac does not include

I visited my local Apple store, but nobody was able to help.
    Very disappointing and frustrating.

  • No Sound when converting MPEG file to MOV - Quicktime Pro

    Hi Everyone,
Just got my first Mac (MacBook Pro) which I love but I'm having a problems importing MPEG 4 files from my Sony digital camera. They play fine through quicktime in the sony format but when I import into quicktime (or imovie for that matter) then export in a .mov file all the sound is lost.
I see some people have reported problems with sound similar to mine but none appear to be the same?
    Any ideas??
    Many Thanks

I am having a similar problem and I see this was never persued any further. I am trying to convert an mpeg file to a mov file using quicktime pro. When I do there is no sound.
Movie info for mov file is: Format is H.264 Decoder, 320 x 240, Millions, FPS is 15, Data Rate is 256.21 kbits/sec.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to quicktime and frustrated from spending hours trying to figure this out! Thanks in advance!

  • No sound when played mpeg movie on ipod

I converted mpeg movie files to ipod format thru Quicktimepro, when i played this file on ipod then the sound did not come, only video was coming.....can please someone tell me what should i do?????

QuickTime Pro (and iTunes) doesn't export audio from muxed formats (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash).

  • No sounds when playing MPEG-2

I have been pulling some video off of my TiVo and converting it to mpeg-4 to watch it on my iPhone. I'm using Elgato's Turbo H.264 to do the conversion. The resulting mpeg-4 plays great in Quicktime and on the iPhone. My question is about the original mpeg-2 from the TiVo. These files play fine in VLC (video and audio). However in Quicktime the video looks fine but there's never any audio. I've seen references to Quicktime not supporting muxed files, and when I look in the Movie Inspector window the TiVo files are definitely listed as muxed. Is there a plug-in which will play mpeg-2 muxed files in Quicktime? I just spent $20 on Apple's mpeg-2 quicktime component and that didn't make a difference. Feeling kind of cheated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Russ

Is there a plug-in which will play mpeg-2 muxed files in Quicktime?
There is and you already have it -- i.e., the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20). However, this is a video codec not an audio codec. QT does not support AC3 audio which commonly used with "muxed" MPEG-2 content. If you want to watch "muxed" MPEG-2 content in QT, then use an application like MPEG Streamclip to change the AC3 audio to MPEG-1, layer 2 audio which is "muxed" as an MPEG (MPEG2/MP2) file which is playable in the QT Player. Another alternative is to "Demux" the file to elementary stream files (M2V video file which resources a separate AIFF audio file) which are also compatible with the QT Player. In both of the cases the original MPEG-2 quality is retained since the video is not re-comppressed in either work flow.

  • No sound when playing ,mov files ?

I converted a .avi file to .mov and when playing it in quicktime I have video but no sound. If I uninstall quicktime and use quicktime alternative + media player classic, the .mov files play perfect. But when I install quicktime again (which i have to have for my iPod) there is no sound. I cant figure out how to fix this.

I have same problem. I have a law lecture CD with .mov files. It plays perfectly in Classic with QT 6.0 but with OS X QT 7 Pro the audio will not play. I called Apple, but got no satisfactory response from the help line.

  • No video but sound when playing .mov files

I'm trying to play .mov files on my computer and I get sound but no video. I've installed the latest verson of QT and no help.
The computer is an older MBP.

I should explain better. The mov files are exports from a 2-year-old MBP using FCP and exporting the files as self-contained movies. They were exported to use as an archive and saved on DVDs. Now I'm working on a 4 year-old MBP with FCE and trying to open the files with quicktime after downloading them from the DVD archives. I get the sound but no video. Please help me resolve this.

  • Crackling sound when playing video files with X-Fi Elite

    Hello,
I have a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro running on a Windows Vista Ultimate system that have the Gigaworks S750 Speakers connected to them.
I noticed today when trying to play a video file that there was constant crackling in the background throughout the file. To try to isolate the problem, I tried a different file, and have found that this happens with ALL video files. Audio playback on mp3s or CDs is OK.
I'm using Entertainment Mode, EAX effects set to Theater, CMSS enabled and Crystallizer disabled, and all other settings as default. The configuration is set to 7. to match my Gigaworks speakers.
I have tried using both the latest and latest beta drivers for the card, without success.
Any help to resolve these problems would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    H.

Thank you for the response. I have checked it, and it says (i've dutch language) something i would translate to English as "System sound output". Is that preference for all discs? I would assume so. But DVD-player plays some discs without sound, and some with sound. So maybe it is codec related? But i would not know how to check that... (when i try to see what codec, audio says it is dts, and i assume dts audio should be no problem?)

  • No sound when playing imported files...

Hey all. Super noob with garage band, but searched around and couldnt find the answers.
After opening the audio files, and dragging in a song, we hit "PLAY" button and can see the track progressing, but hear no sound. What are we doing wrong?
    Thanks.

No waverform that I can see, if you mean some visual measure of sound. I do not think the track is muted, the volume is turned up both on the track bar as well as the main time measure bar. As far as output, just fooling around I opened up Preferences and for audio output it had identical options, one on top of the other. They were both titled Built-in Output, so I switched to to other, and no luck.
If I select the Garage Band samples, they will play though.

  • Buzzing sound when playing media file on HDMI

Since about a week or so now all the media files I play I hear this buzzing sound every so often. I test this out with .avi file and .mp3 and I hear the same buzz. Does anyone know what could it be? It used to work fine before, I'm not sure what changed.

    Dah,
Thanks for the suggestion, that might have did it. I just moved the TV to a different surge protector and it seems to be good for now. Gonna leave it like this for a while and see if the buzzing return or not.
    Thanks

  • No sound when playing .avi files

    Hi everyone,
I tried to fond the solution to this problem with the search options but didn't find anything.
I purchased Quicktime 7 Pro for windows to convert avi files for my iPhone.
At first I had troubles getting more than a black screen, but this was solved with the divx codecs. But since then I still get no sound from avi files. Even the audio half of the A/V controls are disabled... Seems it happens even with mp3 audio encoded files...
Does anyone know what codecs (?) are missing and where I have to install them ?
    Thanks for reading,

  • PSE13: no sound when playing AVCHD videos

In the PSE 13 Organizer I'm not getting any sound when playing AVCHD files:
These files play just fine in PSE12
These files play just fine in Premiere Elements 13 and 12
The files are from various cameras (Sony RX100M3, Sony and Panasonic camcorders)
Other video formats work fine (e.g., .wmv, .mov files from an iPhone, .avi etc)
Any ideas? A quick search indicates this problem has occurred occasionally over the last several years across various versions of PSE.
    Thanks

    Hi Anewsha
    I use .mts.
To clarify : The problem occurs in the organizer part, where sound
disappears after palying 30 seconds. I run a fairly powerful computer, Core

I no longer have sound when playing my clips through adobe premiere elements 12. How to I correct this problem? I have checked all audio levels and there is no mute on etc. I updated to 12.1, but still no sound in any clips. Even not on old files which used to work.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 running on? Can we assume that this audio plays back OK
on the same computer when you are using a computer player independent of Premiere Elements?
What are the properties of these clips that worked before but do not know with regard to sound
For now, I will assume that you are working on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Have you checked the Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO settings? Do you have any 3rd party audio devices incorporated in your computer environment?
Please delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if that does not work, then the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. The Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit path is
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and, in the 12.0 Folder, is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Make sure that you are working with Folder Option "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives" active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Do you have installation files or installation disc with the purchased serial number in case we need to resort to uninstall/reinstall?
We will be watching for your follow up.
