  • Can I have the iPhone make a sound when it finishes syncing?

I run iTunes on a virtual machine(VM) so that iTunes is accessible even when my laptop is off. To sync I have the host system to autoatically connect the iPhone to the VM running iTunes when I plug it into the USB port. This works great, except I unless I remotely connect to the VM ( the host is headless) or sit there and watch the iPhone sync, I don't know when it's done. What I'd like to do is plug it in, go about my business around the house, and listen for a beep or other distinctive sound that tells me it's finished syncing.
TThe sound needs to come from the iPhone, as the VM host system does not have any speakers attached to play sound through. Is there a setting anywhere in iOS to have my phone play as sound when it's done syncing?

Well get yourself hired in APPLE and do the favours to us for this new concept
Once sync is finished you don't  see the sync logo next to coverage bar at the top

  • "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing 30GB iPod

"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing classic 30GB IPod.
We have a few thousand songs and about 50 videos on the above ipod. Just yesterday, we received the "disk cannot be read from or written to" message when trying to sync and charge the ipod.
Our software is up to date, and we restored the factory settings, to no avail. The ipod actually starts to sync, but after about 20 mins. we receive this message and only 103 songs and 21 videos have been synced. We have a second newer ipod with 80GB which syncs from the same itunes account with no problems.
We recently added photos, so we tried to sync the 30GB ipdo without the photos, but still received the subject error message.
    Please help!

Sounds like a hardware problem - a bad disk or, at the very least, bad sectors on the disk in the iPod.
There probably is not much you can do. You can try putting the iPod into disk mode and check the drive using Windows:
    Open My Computer
    Right click the iPod
    Choose Properties
    Go to the Tools tab
    Click the Check now button
Windows may or may not be able to salvage the drive. You do not say if you can still use the iPod without errors; there is the possibility that you will lose data on the iPod during the repair.

  • When syncing my iTunes to my iPad from the laptop, I get a list of missing songs; they are in the library, but not in the music folder on my HD. In particular, I uploaded 3 CDs at the same time, all are in my library - but two are missing from the folder.

When syncing my iTunes to my iPad from the laptop, I get a list of missing songs; they are in the library, but not in the music folder on my HD. In particular, I uploaded 3 CDs at the same time, all are in my library, and all synced to the iPad - but the music from two of them are missing from the music folder. Questions are (a) where might they have gone? and (b) is there a way of "reverse loading" them back to my hard drive from the iPad? Thanks in advance!

    Hi dones49,
It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.
To find the file, use the information in this article to navigate through the iTunes media folders -
Locate and organize your iTunes files
If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

  • Why is the cursor uncontrollable when syncing devices in iTunes?

When syncing any device with iTunes, the cursor will not pinpoint what you want.

Yes I do manually manage my music through Itunes and on my IPhone. Do you recommend I use the sync option in future to avoid this happening again?
Both myself and my other half have the IPhone 3Gs and when we are using our home wifi it seems to drop connection with the router and resort to 3G. This happens fairly regularly now and our wireless is rock solid, it is used for downloading large amounts and a lot of online gaming. We have never had a problem with our wifi for laptops and the PS3s.
The sound on my phone will just stop working, I can unlock after even a few minutes and the key sounds and unlock sound will not be there, I open the ipod and nothing, no sound through the phone speaker or through a cable to my amp and not even to headphones. A reboot usually corrects this but last time I locked the phone and the next morning it was working fine.
I guess I could be doing something wrong or maybe just being picky, its such an awseome device and I want to get the most from it all of the time.

  • Multicam source sequence - audio offset does not work when syncing via audio

Working double sound with Canon 5D footage and syncing via audio is a big help, but the camera sound is one frame ahead of the video.
Merge clips requires each v/a clip pair be selected individually AND can't be slipped after merging - so that's no good.
Create multi-cam source sequence works a treat AND offers an audio offset BUT that does not appear to work when syncing via audio (I understand why you might think we wouldn't need it but...)
    Unlesss I'm missing something?

I have the same problem. Syncing video via audio in multicam works perfectly on my 3 cam shoot but audio offset does not work. Had to do that on the sequence timeline afterwards.

    Hello WGT52,
It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

with that one, it's probably worth starting with the following document:

    Hi SouthMountainSound,
It sounds like the tracks may be missing from your iTunes library. When tracks in iTunes display a it means the file cannot be located; it may have been moved or deleted. If it cannot be located, this may cause the issue of not being copied to your iPod. For this issue, we will need to refer to the following article:

Alternatively, if your media was downloaded from the iTunes Store, you may be able to download it again free of charge:

  • Some Music playing on iPhone, but fine when sync'd...until

I came across something quite strange with my iPhone this afternoon.
Some of my albums/songs were not playing. On some albums, only a few songs played. And sometimes, whole albums were dead. And to test the files, I sync'd it up to the mac, and played the tracks through iTunes. The songs played fine.
The problem could've very well have been an issue with the tracks, until the played over iTunes. That theory, out the window.
I've restored once, rebooted several times, and nothing is fixed.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Justin

    Allan,
Hi. The music was from another source, other than the store. i thought of this too, so I tried to convert one of the dead songs(at least, dead on the iPhone itself), into AAC, from MP3... and at least now the playhead moved... but still no sound.
If it was just a corrupted file, or maybe a compression issue... I'd be okay with simply getting a non-corrupted/fresh copy of the song and re-importing. But, the thing that confuses me, is that the songs are playing just fine when sync'd, through iTunes.
And, as far as I know, there is no alias system for songs exported out onto the iPhone, to link back to the master(like in iPhoto). So, these songs are playing... just not through the iPhone iPod.

  • OS X 10.8 - No sound when receveing mails, messages or reminders

    Hi,
Since my new MBP Retina bought last summer i've noticed that from time to time there is no sound when receiving an email or a message.
Obviously i've checked the preferences, all is ok.
No problem on my iPhone or iPad.
    Any idea ?

    HI,
I was talking mainly about the Messages app rather than the Mail App.
The New Messages (As Mail Calls them) can have a sound set in Mail Menu > Preferences > General section.
I am not as familiar with Mail as I am iChat and Messages and cannot say for certain if the Mail App plays the sound when you are in the General Section and testing the sound (or Changing it)
The System Preferences > Notifications does not play the sound linked to the app when turning the Sound Option On.
I have noticed that sometime in the case of iMessages in the Messages app that is syncing with an iPhone and iPad that the iMessages are sometime received quietly on one device or another.
For me my iPad is the most silent but it is also the least used.  (Then I realised I have not updated the Apple ID password on the iPad).
I also notice that when I use the "Get Mail" button to test the sound and I have no new mail I get a different sound to anything I select.
Broadly speaking both Mac and iOS device should play whatever sound is linked to new mail or new Messages depending on App.
Having checked further I am am not sure if we were talking about the same thing and also whether my System is behaving as it should or like you suggest there is a random issue with apps playing alerts sounds.

  • 24p to 30p SOUND IN SYNC?

Is there a way to convert 30p footage to 24p while keeping the sound in sync and not slowed down.
When I conver the 30p footage to 24p the whole thing is slowed down, including the sound.
How can I resolve this issue?
    Thanks.

    and yeah yeah I will
I still have a problem, understanding what you like to achive:
this is your (? no, not really - my comment about © was meant seriously) bad take:
I seperated the audio, I made a split at the beginning of bad scene
I searched for good - which seems the saxophone sequence ...
splitted the audio, "Robby!" as synch-point (a+v)
shifted audio to be in synch with following sequence
    => a 'hole'!
as you can see, the audio and video 'drifts' - video longer than the purple bar.
    no you want …wot?
to 'stretch' audio fitting the bad video'?
    plus pitching voices?
possible, but no trivia task, Dear ...
