No sound with avi files

I have Quicktime 7.2 as well as DivX Player. I have also downloaded FlashPlayer and Flip4Mac
But I cannot read properly some avi videos. Some work very well but I don't have the sound (but I do have the image). What do I need to do???
Thanks
Manu

Install the VLC Media Player, repair permissions & restart.

  • Quiktime 7.7 plays no sound with .AVI files

Quiktime used to play sound for my .avi files, but no longer does.

After the install of Perian 1.1 drag the AC3 codec out of the folder it is in as Perian handles AC3. BTW AC3 is Dolby Digital codec for audio and not the problem with an AVI file.

I have no sound with avi file

Evidently there is some codec missing that Quicktime needs to play avi files in Snow Leopard.  Anyone know what it is or how to get it?  VLC is fine, but I prefer the functionality of Quicktime Pro and would like to be able to view avi files there.  Thanks!

  • Quicklook doesn't work with .avi files

Hello, i've got a little problem right here on my mac. The thing is that I used to have Snow Leopard as a OS and quicklook used to work great, it opened all the extensions I used to work with. The thing change when I format my HDD and installed a clean copy of Lion OS. Now quicklook works fine as it used to but not any more with .avi files. I remember that this feature was working great on my previous OS, and it's really important for me to find a solution because quicklook is an absolutely amazing feature of our Macs.
I've tryed to download plugins, restoring permissions or even trying it with a guest user, but no success.
Please help me. If you need more info about specs or something i'll be glad to give them to you.
    Thank you!!!

Also doesn't work with Grapher (.gcx) documents (an Apple format).

  • Bridge CS4 freezes when I open a folder with avi files

Whenever I navigate to a folder with avi files, Bridge CS4 freezes. I have tried resetting my preferences, changing the file associations, but it still hangs. Both Windows and Bridge are set up to associate avi files with VLC Media Player. The files open and play just fine in VLC. I am running CS4 on a Win XP Pro machine. It used to not be a problem and I could play avi files in Bridge. I'm not sure when the problem started since I don't shoot a lot of video. Any ideas?

Thx for that im gonna try it....but is there a way to do it without using toolbar or cmd-c...? i mean using only the mouse?why does it have to highlight the file even though i click a bit next to it....?using icon view i can right click next to the folder and i wont have a problem but with list view that i prefer using it will highlight the whole row.....and i dont find free space to right click cause i got many files

  • Need Help! No Video Just Audio With .AVI Files

i got quicktime for my iPod, just only for that cause i think that quicktime really *****... i searched this whole site for an answer. i found something i thought would solve my problems with .avi files but my .avi files are mpeg-4 layered, and there's only a descent answer for indeo files? or something like that. i really need help cause i want to convert an ordinary .avi file to iPod extension... please please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. An AVI movie may use one of the Indeo codecs or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", you can try the codecs at http://www.divx.com/ and http://www.3ivx.com/ and see if one of them will work for you

  • How to deal with scratchy sound in AVI file from BetaCam masters

Recently, I got out some BetaCam edit masters of videos I produced in the 1990s. The university instructional technology center transfered the masters to Mini-DV tape, then made AVI files from the Mini-DV tapes. The AVI files sound fine when I play them from my hard drive, but when I use the AVI files in Premiere Pro CS4 and 1.5, the sound is scratchy--sort of like a scratchy record. So then I got the Mini-DV tape and decided to import the program, playing it on my Canon GL1 camcorder and capturing it in PP CS4. But the sound is even worse. Please advise. These programs are too important to not be able to convert them to YouTube and DVD formats.

If things work OK in "programA" but not in "programB" (B being Premiere) that is usually a codec issue
AVI is simply a wrapper... what is the codec?
The first question at the end of this link has a link to the free GSPOT to find the codec
First, work through all of the steps here http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting
If your problem isn't fixed after you follow all of the steps, report back with the DETAILS asked for in the questions at the end of that link

  • No sound for AVI files with Quicktime

I know this is a well discussed topic, but I can't seem to fix this problem.
I upgraded to Quicktime 7.5 and quickly found that I cannot get audio/sound out of my AVI files (most are short clips taken with my Casio Exlim Digital Camera). I tried installing Perian, but that didn't work. I tried reinstalling QT, and that didn't work. I tried repairing disk permissions and that didn't work. Finally, I thought perhaps I had a bad AppleIntermediateCodec file. I downloaded version 1.0.1 from Apple, but it won't let me load it - acts like its an update to an existing file, but the file is not on my system. I am having the same problem. But it's even weirder. Any .avi file I created using my Flip Ultra camera will play with sound. One or two .avi movies I've d/l'd from the 'net will also play with sound. The remainder will not play with sound on QT (7.5). I have VLC, Real and DivX Player loaded, and all .avi files play on those players with sound, no problem.
Now, my Library/Components folder is empty. My Library/QuickTime folder has the following:

  • No sound on AVI files with QT 7.5

    Hi,
I have a bunch of avi files and only a few of them have sound. They all worked fine before I downloaded the newest version of quicktime. Any suggestions? I was the pacifist option but I am not sure I know how to remove/install the downgraded version
    Thanks for the help!

I've got the same problem. None of my AVI files now play sound after applying all software updates (also pushing me up to QuickTime 7.5).
I only found this out after burning some to a DVD and discovering there was no sound on the disc.
The AVI files play perfectly in VLC 0.8.6h. Do I assume something has got screwed up with QuickTime?

  • Export to DV needed to keep sound for AVI files burned with iDVD

I have recently found out that in order to have sound throughout the DVDs that I burn, I must first convert AVI files to DV. This however distorts wide screen video files, thus I am wondering one of two things; the first being if I can convert the files to another type that will not distort the picture and two if there is a way to convert AVI files to DV without changing the picture at all.

  • Sound but no Video with AVI Files

I'm pulling avi files recorded using a Tricaster into Premiere.  I can hear them but I can't see video.
With Windows Media Player they play fine.  I've installed the codec from the Tricaster CD, but it doesn't appear Premiere is using it.
I'm using Premiere CS5.  I did this before on a PC I don't have anymore with Premiere CS4 and had no problems.
    Help!!

  • Audio, no video with .avi file

We have cameras on our buses in which we can save the video to a PC as an .avi video file. (hardware only works on a PC). So now I have a .avi file that we would like to view on our Macs. No matter what program I try, the movie has sound, but no video.
    +According to MediaInfoMac,+
    +Video Codecs Used: WaveCodec+
    +Audio Codecs Used: PCM+
    +File Format: AVI+
    +Encoded with: MEncoder 1.0pre5-3.3.5+
    +Encoding Library: MPlayer+
    +another program mentioned ADV1+
    I have
    * tried both Leopard and Snow Leopard machines
    * Quicktime Pro
    * Perian (made sure the DiVx was unistalled, repaired permission, restarted etc)
    * tried the latest VLN
I don't mind purchasing a program, but I want to make sure it will work. This is an important program to us and we need it to work.
Has anyone run across this type of file?

There is no Mac codec for that video format. Use MPEG Streamclip to convert it to MPEG-4 on the PC.

  • No Sound playing AVI files in Quicktime Pro - help!

Help! I just bought QT Pro for Windows(Xp) to convert my AVI files to Mpeg4 for my Ipod. The Apple Store sales guy promised it could be done. I see video but no sound on all of the AVI files. For example, on 2 of my AVI video files, according to Gspot, the video codecs are "divx 3 low motion" and "Xvid" and they are installed on my pc. According to Gspot, the audio codec required is "0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3" which can play on
    --> {Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (advanced)}
    --> {MPEG Layer-3 Decoder}
which are both installed on my pc, yet I have no sound. I am stuck! The bit rate is 128. Should I be using another audio codec??? Where can I get it? Help! Anyone?

Some of the avi files created on PCs use variable bit rate mp3 souind. QT will not play that type of mp3 in avi files.
One way to deal with the issue is to convert the mp3 to a QT-friendly format. You can try this process, using this freeware Windows program: VirtualDub
Open the problem file in VirtualDub. Set the Video mode to Direct Stream Copy. That will copy the video to the new file with no change. Set the Audio to Full Processor Mode. Then set the compression to IMA compression. Now use Save As Avi in the File menu to make a new file with a new name. Since only the audio is being changed it is a fairly rapid process.
One last thing. To do this you do have to have the Windows codecs for those video formats installed. That is, you have to be able to play them in Windows Media Player. QT uses completely different codecs.

  • Mac OS error 824 with AVI File

Hello, all. So I've done a few searches on this subject, which should be near and dear to your hearts. It concerns a difficulty that I'm having with playing several AVI video files back on Quicktime, and since I plan to use iMovie to edit them, I need to rectify this asap.
Now as you can see from the message topic, I'm being told this is due to an "error 824," and I can't for the life of me find out online what this is. But I do know that my roommate, who also uses Mac, can play the same files on his computer using Quicktime, and I can also play them back on VLC on my computer as well, so I know it's not a hardware problem. I have also removed the XVid codecs from the library folder, and all that's done is ruined my ability to play back other AVI files that need it. (BTW, the files in question use the DVSD codec, as they were shot on a Panasonic camera.)
So does anyone know what's needed here? Let me know. Thanks!

It could be a problem in the new Quick Time (QT). My Updater downloaded the new QT 7.4.5 on 5 Apr 2008. I have been making movies in iMovie then posting them to YouTube. In the beginning I uploaded the movies as MOVs but soon discovered AVI files (larger file and added time to upload) had more clarity when viewed on YouTube. Once the new QT 7.4.5 downloaded all my AVIs had picture, but no sound! I downloaded the Perian component as posted in QT discussions. The sound returned to the AVI files. However, when I Exported an AVI movie from iMovie the picture quality was worse than MOV. There is something wrong with the new QT 7.4.5 when working with AVI, my AVI movies look terrible. These AVI files were all downloaded from my Ultra Flip Video camera with Flip’s codec 3vix. Flip is aware of this problem and acknowledged it last Friday. I sure hope Apple is also aware.

  • No sound from avi files - soundtrack is ms format?

Anyone know how to get qucktime to play avi files where the soundtrakc element is 'ms' format. the video part is mp4 and i think the whole file is divx

I have been having the same problem with DivX files that are encoded with MP4 video and AC3 audio (Digital Dolby Surround 5.1). I always get the picture but no sound. The QT does offer to take me to a web page which offers a variety of codec’s and plug-ins, but it does not specify which one it would desire...:-)
As far as I can see, the only solution to the problem is to have the problematic files recoded with a suitable program. In my case, Visual Hub does the job just fine. It is a waste of time, but what can you do... It would be lovely if Visual Hub had "video pass through" option do avoid video conversion or recoding...
If you do not feel like paying for Visual Hub, try FFmpeg, which is nice, but not very user friendly if you do not know what combinations of audio and video encoding you want as your final product, not to mention “encapsulation” (mov, avi wvm, rm…). VLC can also do the recoding, and it does usually do a good job, but as with FFmpeg, it is not easy to setup.
Good luck and I hope I shed at least some light to your problem.
