the ^CAborted by signal interrupt is because I ctrl c ended it because it wouldn't play the sound, it would just hang forever. It works with my Logitech Headset though. I'm running gnome 3 and the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers. Funny thing is I had HDMI running flawlessly through MATE a few days ago before the OS crashed and I had to reinstall.  Any ideas?

so i installed the latest beta drivers and now pavucontrol is atleast showing that sound is coming out/trying to come out of the device. still no audible sound though.
i can't get aplay to get any sound out of my headset anymore though... but my headset is still working just fine in pulse. any ideas?
edit:::so I completely removed my de along with xorg, pulse, alsa and everything.. basicaly back to a square 1 arch install, and installed mate from there.... still having the same problem...
could it be a problem with the latest kernel update? it was working on an old install a few weeks ago on the older kernel. i don't remember going to all this trouble to get hdmi sound last time.

  • Sometimes no sound with HDMI under Windows 7

I'm running bootcamp with windows 7. After booting windows on the mac mini 2010 there is no sound via HDMI. After rebooting the system with mac os the HDMI sound works. After bootin windows again the sound works in windows too. When I shutdown windows and switch power sound is off again.
Maybe its an issue with the nvidia audio driver in windows 7?

Same problem here. Did you ever figure it out?

  • MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 : No Sound with HDMI

    Hi,
I recently bought a MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 for a media PC , installed Windows 8 and after a lot of hassle finally have everything installed...everything works great except I can not get sound through the HDMI port. Windows shows that the HDMI audio is disconnected (cable not plugged in) even though the video works fine through HDMI....just no audio!
I have installed and removed the Realtek HD Audio drivers, as well as the ATI HDMI audio drivers numerous times, in various order and my HTPC does not recognize that I have HDMI sound at all. The only thing that is enabled is "Realtek  Digital Output" which corresponds to an optical jack that isnt even connected.
I have also tried to disable the HD audio from with in the bios to see if that would default to HDMI but alas, still no success.
I recently utilized a trinity APU to update my bios to 2.0 and finally installed a richland APU (A6-6400K) if that makes any difference.
Any Suggestions? I am at my wits end!

Thanks for the reply Flobelix, but I am not sure that is the case for two reasons:
    1) I definitely have an additional audio device that appears under my device manager that accepts the ATI HDMI Audio drivers, and displays them under sound devices. Even if I don't install them, windows identifies an additional audio device it determines as HDMI sound as well. I can also disable the Realtek Audio within the BIOS options and I still have an additional sound device which windows recognizes as a HDMI audio device.
The problem is that windows just doesnt recognize that it has a physical connection.
    2) On the FM2-A75IA-E53 webpage (....msi.com/product/mb/FM2-A75IA-E53.htm) they even advertise their HDMI v1.4 as:
    HDMI v1.4 (AMD)
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is new generation fully digital video/audio interface which can transfer 1080p High-Definition video and Audio output in single compact connector. Supporting HDCP copy protection such as Blu-ray Discs, HDMI provides you with the highest-quality home theater experience.
    Features
    - Next-Gen Multimedia Interface
    - Deliver Full HD Video & Audio output In Only One Cable
So I would assume this motherboard does indeed support HDMI audio.
Has anyone else encountered this problem with this board or a similar MSI board?

  • Cannot record any sound with my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra audio interface

Have been using Logic for about 3 months and was able (primarily via keyboards/midi recording) to create some decent recordings (via the 'hard' way, some books, video training and without bothering a lot of people with many of my questions). Time has come to start with analog audio recording and here my problem starts. Have recently purchased the Fast Track Ultra audio interface from M-Audio.
Drivers are installed correctly. The device is saying that it functions properly. It gets recognized by my iMAC. It gets recognized in Logic and can enable the device in my audio preferences. I can clearly see in the control panel of my USB audio interface it is creating sound and meters are going up and down.
I get sound in my head phones (which are connected to the audio interface) but within Logic no sound is coming in while with the build in microphone everything seems to work fine. Have played around all kind of settings in my audio/midi configuration utility but no result.
Who can help me out ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jozef.

Have done a test within Garageband and it works correctly overthere

  • No sound with Intel HD audio [solved]

    Hi,
I recently set up my laptop with archlinux, and I'm getting no sound. I have the drivers for my chip installed, there is nothing unusual in dmesg, and alsamixer detects the card fine, but even after I unmute the card, I get nothing. when I start up kde, I get this message:
    Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.
It may be as simple as making /dev/dsp a symbolic link to the correct device, but I'm not sure which device that would be.
    alsamixer tells me:

    Chip:SigmaTel STAC9221 A1
    Thanks in advance.

  • No sound with input to audio line in

All of my other audio works fine. I can play CDs and video files like AVI and sound is perfect. I am using the Apple pro speakers. You can't get audio from the line-in on the speaker jack either. If you go to the audio prefs it shows line in and port is audio-line in port. The input level meter shows activity that looks like the audio currently playing. If you unhook the audio cable (monaural) the sound level meter goes to zero. The output shows external speakers and port is built-in audio. I am trying to listen to the TV audio while I watch the composit video on my monitor. The video part works perfectly. It is like the audio in is not connected to the audio out. Any ideas??

I was a bit confused by your description of what is going on with your system, so I'm sure you;ve already done some of this stuff. Having said that, here are a few suggestions...
    1. Did you change anything in the Audio MIDI Setup application? It is located in: Applications: Utilities
    2. Did you hit the Mute button on your keyboard?
    3. Did you plug the cable into the correct port on your Mac?
    4. Did you double-check your setting in System Preferences: Audio? Input and Output?
    5. Are you coming out of the Audio Out on your sound source?
    6. Have you tried any other external audio source with success?

I tried the solution in the wiki. The sound would work when I issued the aplay command, but then when I set the .asoundrc file, sound would not work (after logging out and logging back in). I also tried this solution from another thread, but I mistakenly forgot to make backups of the two respective files and now I have no sound at all. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
    Edit:
Also tried this, didn't work either.
    Edit2:
Finally got it solved! All I had to do was go into alsamixer and unmute the "S/PDIF" channel, follow the instructions from the wiki (see link above), and I finally got the sound to work.

  • HDMI no sound with Windows 7 upgrade

I am unable to get sound with HDMI , but visual is working, after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7.  G70 series laptop, s/n 2CE92870KS.
Under control panel/device manager/display adapters, what is listed is mobile intel (r) 4 series express chipset family.
Under control panel/device manager/sound video games, what is listed is coexant high definition smart audio 221 and intel high definition audio hdmi.
Under control panel/sound/playback, what is listed is coexant high definition smart audio 221.
I am floundering greatly trying to figure out why the intel high definition audio hdmi is not listed under sound/playback.  I would greatly appreciate any help.  Thanks

    Hi Jim,
Try this to see if it helps.  Download the Chipset driver and Graphics driver on the links below and save the installers to your Desktop.
    Chipset
    Graphics Driver
Next, in Device Manager, open Display Adapters, right click on the Intel graphics chip and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then select uninstall.  When done, do the same for the for the Intel High Definition Audio Codec found under Sound Video and Game Controllers.
Now return to the Desktop and install the Chipset driver and then the Graphics driver.  When complete, reboot the PC and see if this has helped.  Check in Device Manager that both the Intel Graphics and the Intel Hi Definition Audio codec have reinstalled successfully and whether you now see the HDMI Audio option under playback devices ( found in Control Panel, Sound ) as shown as the top option on the screenshot below ( ignore the fact that it's ATI, i just mean the TV icon option ).
    http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w146/rproffitt2000/?action=view&current=7Speakers.png&newest=1
If it shows up correctly, try the HDMI connection and see if it now functions properly.
    Best wishes,

I tried plug monitor to receiver, monitor wrote "monitor going to sleep". I tried different definition but unfortunetly result same.
How van i use my monitor with hdmi receiver?
    Bes regards.

I have looked at the specs for both the monitor and the receiver. You should be able to use any standard HDMI to DVI-D cable to connect them. I verified that the monitor HDCP compliant, so this shouldn't be an issue. I recommend trying a new/different cable just to eliminate this as a possible cause of the problem. The only problem that you will run into when connecting these components in this fasion might be sound. HDMI carries audio while DVI-D does not, you may need to find another source for sound than your monitor.
I work on behalf of HP, but my opinions are my own.

  • Problems with sound (pulse audio) configuration

My sound system is somehow not working properly. Only one playback at a time is working. Either flash player, a media player, a game. But never both at the same time. I want to use Cinnamon + Pulse Audio. I don't know what I need to install to get it working (pulseaudio, also, oss, ....) I assume the problem is that I installed several sound systems at the same time.
Could you be so nice and help me to determine and fix the problem? I have no clue where to start. I read the appropriate Wiki articles but I'm not sure what exactly I need to do. All I want is a working and autostarting/respawning pulse audio ...
    Thank you in advance!

  • [Solved] Pulse Audio won't work on newly installed system with Gnome

About a year ago I got a new computer and more or less retired my old one with my first arch install. Recently, I decided I would set it up as a Linux system for my sister. I first updated the computer, which broke it royally (since it was last updated before the /bin symlinking happened) but I eventually got it fixed. However, after doing that, Pulse Audio wouldn't work, then I broke X and decided to do a full reinstall.
Now, on this clean install, Pulse is again not working. I have set up Gnome and gdm to work, and everything works great except Pulse.  The wiki says that Pulse with Gnome 3 requires no extra setup, so I have not edited conf files at all. I have, however, installed "pulseaudio-alsa", which created this conf file:
    # Use PulseAudio by default
    pcm.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    hint {
    show on
description "Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)"
    ctl.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    # vim:set ft=alsaconf:
which seems fairly standard. Anyway, I tried removing it and had the same problems. When I have Pulse Audio running and try to play sound, I get the error:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1022:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy
which is obviously trying for ALSA, or from mplayer:
AO: [pulse] Init failed: Connection refused
    Running "pacmd list" nets me:
    Daemon not responding.
    and pavucontrol gives me:
Fatal Error: Unable to connect to PulseAudio: OK
when I try to start it.
No pulseaudio commands seem to work (e.g. pulseaudio -k). They don't raise any errors, but also it doesn't have any effect on the server.
The only asound conf file is "/etc/asound.conf", clearing ~/.config/pulse does not fix the issue.
Journalctl does not seem to give anything interesting (Stale PID is the only message when starting Pulse), though admittedly I'm just vgrepping all of journalctl since I don't know how to narrow it down more, nor does the output from pulseaudio -vvvv. There are a lot of errors in pulseaudio -vvvv, but they all appear to be related to loading devices that don't exist, and so I assume not a problem, I can post it if necessary. Sometimes when I kill Pulse the process refuses to go away and I have to reboot in order to clear the process out, but I don't think that's related.
If I kill Pulse or keep it from starting on boot, I can play sound, but only through ALSA, and while I didn't have the problem I expected (I can still play multiple things simultaneously) there's still the issue that the volume buttons in Gnome will no longer work and that the volume levels ALSA reports are basically nonsense to a human being.
I basically just blurbed everything I thought of/found on the wiki or forums, and I'm not really sure where to go from here. It's a fairly old computer, so that could be related, and I'd be willing to dump Pulse if Gnome could integrate well with ALSA, but obviously fixing Pulse would be the preferred option.
Any suggestions on where to look next? I've run out of ideas.
    Thanks.

Wonder if you have a conflict between two audio cards ... for example, I have a friend with some PulseAudio problems caused by conflict between the HDMI audio from his graphics card and his onboard sound. Something would switch PulseAudio to the wrong card and it would just quit after getting itself into a twist. Unsolved, I'm afraid, but have a look at commands such as:
    aplay -l
    pactl list sinks
    pactl stat
(Latter two will need PulseAudio coaxed into life first)
and of course, the Arch wiki.
If there is a conflict, blacklisting kernel modules might also be needed.

  • (Pulse)Audio? not working (Intel HDMI)

    Hi,
so I installed Arch Linux again and have problems with the sound. I think there is a problem with PulseAudio, as test sounds from settings (cinnamon) and using 'aplay -D plughw:0,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' work. But when I open music/videos in VLC, Firefox or Clementine, there is no sound, nor are system sounds output.
I tried using headphones and everything works just fine.
I've been searching for a while now and found nothing that could help me. I can't figure out, what's wrong.
Previously I used an AMD graphics card and had no problems with sound and HDMI. Also I can't remember doing something special when I installed and used Arch back then. Now I use the HD3000 graphics included in my Intel Core i7-2600k. I need HDMI because I use an A/V-receiver.
    Thank you in advance

There is already a default sink set under ~/.config/pulse, content: "alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.hdmi-surround-extra1". Don't know what to do with that. I thought it was set by pavucontrol and should be right?
    speaker-test -c 2 -t wav -D plug:dmix:"{CARD 0 DEV 7}"
works (while pulseaudio is killed, right!?) in multiple instances, fuser gives
    $ fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D7p: iuno 3431 F...m speaker-test
    iuno 3486 F...m speaker-test
    iuno 3491 F...m speaker-test
    /dev/snd/timer: iuno 3431 f.... speaker-test
    iuno 3486 f.... speaker-test
    iuno 3491 f.... speaker-test
    I see no problem there?
I don't really know what you mean with the linked post. But I think a summary might be useful, as I really messed up writing in this thread.
    When pulseaudio is killed:
Like mentioned above, speaker-test works with C0D7
VLC with Preferences - Audio - Output module set to 'Alsa audio output', Device set to 'HDA Intel PCH, HDMI 0 Audio Output' works
Clementine with GStreamer Audio Engine - Output plugin set to 'Audio sink (ALSA)' does not work
While trying with ALSA-only I found this out:
    $ fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/controlC0: iuno 652 F.... firefox
    iuno 4167 F.... vlc
    iuno 4259 F.... clementine
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: iuno 652 F...m firefox
    iuno 4259 F...m clementine
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D7p: iuno 4167 F...m vlc
    /dev/snd/timer: iuno 652 f.... firefox
    iuno 4259 f.... clementine
Concluding Clementine and Firefox use the wrong device. I guess c0d0 may be the default device for alsa? But for pulseaudio it shouldn't matter, right?
Choosing 'HDA Intel PCH, ALC893 Analog Output' as device in VLC results in no sound, obviously, and 'C0D0' in fuser.
However, trying to play back compressed audio with VLC, alsa-only, everything like above does not work. fuser shows the same (C0D7), vlc shows no error playing back .m4a or .mp3 files but it stays quiet.
.oga (vorbis) files I found in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop do work, though. While VLC is playing, I can't run speaker-test (error: -16,Device or resource busy)
When PulseAudio comes in , some things change, obviously
I'd like to name two states. State 1 meanns sound is working, state 2 means sound is not working. State 1 is default.
First of all, no matter what I do, fuser always gives
    $ fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/controlC0: iuno 5552 F.... pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D7p: iuno 5552 F...m pulseaudio
Forcing VLC to use 'Alsa audio output'-module, and 'HDA Intel PCH, HDMI 0 Audio Output' as device results in device or resource busy error.
Setting device to 'PulseAudio Sound Server' or 'Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)' both work. The 'Module' setting in preferences does not matter. I could either choose ALSA or Pulse with the same effect*. Long story short, audio output works, still not with compressed audio files. This means the state switches to state 2, as long as I keep the .wav file running! -> clementine and firefox also could play back sound, vlc can now also play back compressed audio - as long as I keep at least one of them running. When all sound output is paused, I fall back to state 1. Only playing back a .wav file in VLC or (p)aplay could save me back to state 2. I have to start other apps immediately, when in state 1 as pausing playback instantly causes a fallback to state 1. Opening pavucontrol, while in state 2 keeps me in state 2 as long as pavucontrol stays open. I used this as a dirty workaround for the last days.
State changes are also blocked the other way round. While in state 1, trying to play sound from clementine or opening pavucontrol results as staying in state 1, also when I play a .wav file with vlc.
Sorry that was much text, but I hope it's clearer now
*correction: This setting needs a restart of vlc to take effect. When the 'Module' is set to ALSA, pavucontrol lists 'ALSA plug-in [vlc]: ALSA Playback', when set to pulseaudio, the entry is called 'VLC media player: audio stream'. Same for clementine, when I change from ALSA to pulseaudio in the settings. Firefox always uses ALSA. However, it does not have effect on the state-thing. I still need to enter state 2 with the methods mentioned above

    Hi.
The only easy way I found to make hdmi audio work and  on my 4850 was with pulseaudio applet (gnome-media-pulse) and the open radeon drivers (xf86-video-ati). With catalyst I can't, even in windows. Anyway radeon driver doesn't support your card yet  " http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature  ".
Before this, I remember that with smplayer I could select the hdmi audio driver and it worked.

  • [SOLVED]Problem with sound in HDMI

    Hello good society of Arch
Now I have problems with sound from HDMI. I use Arch as an tvPc, wasting movies and tv shows on it. I use ALSA and it works well, except of a few files that I have, then there is picture but sound is either twisted or not played at all. It does not matter whether I use vlc or mplayer, I'm experiencing the same problem.
I have not found anything about this with google, other problems have been either hdmi sound working or not, not like it is with me, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.
I know that the files are ok, I can play them in anther pc I have (also using Arch on that pc).
Does anybody know what the problem might be? What do I have to look at to find out what the problem is? This have been like this for some time now, but I haven't looked into it before, because I don't use TV that muts, but the wife does and when she stats blaming Arch, I have too do something about it.
I have never encountered problem with Arch that i cant solve by using this forum and google
    Thanks

I will look at this when i come home from work, thanks.

  • HT1454 i connect my iPad to my tv with hdmi cable but the surround sound from the receiver is not working why is this?

i want to play my ipad on through my tv and receiver to get surround sound (not using the tv speakers) I connect the htmi cable to my tv and ipad do i need more cable to get my surround sound to play the audio?  i thought hdmi did it all.

if you have a 6th or 7th gen classic, you'll have a have the video out cable from apple.  only the 5th gen will play with a generic 3 connector video out cable.
