No Sound with themes...
Is it normal to have no sound for a theme? I dropped a movie onto the passthrough theme and my sound is gone. Thanks.
How about extracting the audio from one of the clips before creating the theme, then placing it in the same time frame as the created theme?mrtotes

External Usb Audio Card Popping and Cracking sound with Satellite L500

My name is Boyan and I am from Bulgaria and about an year ago I've bought a satellite laptop from the l500 series ( i can not state which exactly is the model at the moment because my computer is not currently with me and on my user manual the only thing which is stated is that it is for L500/L505/ L500D / L505D . But by memory I think it was the Satellite L500D-ST5506 which is currently not at my dispossal because I gave it for repair for the same problem which I will state down below)
The problem with my laptop is that when I plug a Usb Audio card in my laptop I have a cracking sound when live sound is played trough the speakers/headphones from the external card. I've tried numerous audio cards and speakers/headpohnes which work perfectly fine with other computer, including laptops but the same problem keeps on showing up in the headphones/speakers of my laptop when I am using an external audio card to connect them to the laptop.
The problem is prominent only when the sound signal passes trough an external audio card and it is very annyoing since I use my laptop to create music and i've bought an expenssive audio card and speakers which can not be used with the laptop. I've tried 3 models of audio cards:
M-Audio Fast Track Pro
Behringer uca 222
and a simple external 3d sound usb audio card and the problem still appears.
At first I thought that the problem should be software and I should install new drivers although windows 7 automaticaly recognizes and intalls the drivers for the devices and I have sound in them (but with cracks and popps) so i tried using the official drivers sold to me with the audio cards but with no luck: The problem was still there. I tried finding new drivers of the audio cards on the official distributors websited and i've downloaded them but the problem was still there. Then i tried to delete every audio driver on my computer and just use the external audio card for sound but this dint help eighter. I've updated my drivers for my build-in audio card as well but again - no luck.
After that.the frist thing I did when (2 weeks after i bought the laptop) was to contact the store from which i bought my audio card and they stated that the problem may be eighter latency or high voltage from the laptop so they adviced me to try to lower the latency from the settings or to try and see if the problem remains if my laptop is only running on battery. I've tried both things and they didn't help. The audio cards worked without a problem on every other computer I've tried them on except mine. So they said to me that the problem couldnt possibly be from the audio cards .
What I did next was I gave my laptop to the official distributor of toshiba in my country so they can fix my problem. What they said to me was that the problem is caused from the version of windows which was pre-installed on my laptop and that it wasnt compitable with the audio cards (which was bizzar sounding because I've tried them on the same windows and they've worked, just on other computers). So I got back my laptop and changed my operating sistem from Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 32bit and on all of those versions the problem was there: whenever I activate a Usb Audio Card and audio signal passes trough it I heard cracks and popps. I even tried isntalling Windows XP but the laptop wants spesific SATA drivers for the installation of Windows XP which although i did find - they didnt help me install XP and I didn't want to go in to the BIOS of the computer to try to put a new one and so on because I am not so sure about that and I could lose my warranty so I said to the official repair store for Toshiba in my town to put XP on my computer to fix the problem but they can't because they are not liscened to operate with software which doesn't have a recipt for its purchase ( which i didnt because i bought my windows xp long ago and i've lost the recipt)
I gave it for repair for the second time telling them that the change of my operating system did not solve my problem and what they did was they changed the whole motherboard on my computer, stating that the build in realtek audio device on my computer is not good enough to support an usb audio card or it maybe broken and they have to change the whole motherboard because the build in card is glued to it, so they did that but my problem wasn't solved. They told me that although I am using and external usb audio card the signal still passes trough my internal one and I have to disable it so i tried disabling it trough the control panel but this did not solve the problem and i do not have an option from BIOS to disable my build-in audio card. Another thing which I thought maybe causing the problem is that the two audio cards aren't working on the same bit rate and Hertz so I set both cards to 16 bit 48000hz DVD Quality (Also tried other options on the 3 cards i have) but...the same thing happend.
They told me that this is just my luck and that the build in audio card doesn't support this external audio cards and I should had been more careful when choosing my laptop at first.
I couldn't accept this awnser for several reasons:
1) This audio cards work on lower version of windows and are supported by much older models of Realtek and much older computers (one of them was bought 2000!!!!! and my laptop is from 2010!!)
2) The guys who were fixing the problem apperantley didn't go in so deep in to my problem because they didn't know what actually the problem was they just knew that there is a problem with the audio card and the computer interacting with eachother, they didnt know that there is cracking during live play from the external audio card.
3) I can not accept the fact that Toshiba is manufacturing models with chipset audio cards which can not support a simple external Usb Audio Card. This is totally unacceptable for me and I truly hope this is not the case!
4)They didn't try my audiocards on an other laptop from the same series stating that they do not have one at their dispossal at the moment so I will go tomorrow to a local store and try the audio cards by my self on the same computer in the store.
What I did now was I gave back my laptop for repair asking for a statement of the problem in wrtting with all details of the problem so I can go to court or ask for a new laptop but I will be charged with some money because according to them there is no problem in the laptop and the problem is that my external audio cards arent compitable with the build in internal chipset audio card. If I give my laptop for repair and there is no hardware problem I will have to pay some money. I will do this but I am now mad, since this will not solve my problem and I am loosing time and money.
What I am asking here is, if you can not help me solve my problem and advice me what to do to fix it, please provide me the details of the chipset build in audiocard on my motherboard, so i can investigate if it is compitable with my external audio cards and contact the audio card dealers to ask them for their opinion. Or if you can tell me with what it is compitable with and with what not, it would be great. I personally think that this laptop should have no problems at all with running a simple external usb audio card but I am asking you, if you know something more about that.
If the problem is from the build in chipset then Toshiba is manufacturing (or at least selling) audiocards which aren't at a normal standart but sadly I cant do nothing about it except complain to Toshiba and never deal whith such productgs anymore. In the other case if this is not true, then my laptop has a problem which is different and I will have to go to court with the repair mans for not fixing my laptop or not giving a new one when I have warranty which will not be Toshiba's fault and It will in a way solve my problem.
I hope you understand how Important this is for me and I hope I resolve the problem as soon as possible.

I've succesfully installed Arch Linux. My past two attempts have met with failure, all because of my own failure to read and follow directions correctly. This time everything is installed correctly. I am running Kdemod3 on my laptop with Arch and everything works great. I LOVE Pacman and the simplicity of Arch's configuration files. It's super fast and all together simple. My only remaining problem is this:
My sound with ALSA is not functioning. I followed the installation instructions at the arch wiki and after unmuting all of my channels I still would not get any sound. My sound module is snd_hda_intel and it is detected, loaded and the whole nine yards (as far as I can tell). My user is a member of the 'audio' user group also. I looked at the troubleshooting tips on the bottom of the Wiki but decided not to try them as they do not seem to pertain to my card (snd_hda_intel) but I will try them if anyone would like me to.
If anyone has any ideas, they'd be greatly appreciated!:D Anything I can provide that you need I will be more than willing to provide.

Acquiring 24-bit sound with a third-party sound card... truncation issues.
I am having a very strange problem when using LabVIEW to acquire audio
data via the Windows API from a Creative Professional E-MU 1616m sound
card. The goal is to acquire sound in 24-bit resolution.
When capturing sound in 16-bit mode (as set in the LabVIEW software),
the E-MU 1616m behaves as expected, with a 105dB SNR and approximately
-130dB noise floor, after dithering. However, when switching to
24-bit capture mode, a very severe truncation occurs. This sends
the harmonic distortion and noise through the roof. After
investigating fairly deeply in our LabVIEW code, I am wondering what
might be the problem.
I have compiled a number of screenshots which showcase the problem in more detail.
Here is a background of the experiment:
For these tests, both the analog and digital audio was generated by an
Audio Precision System Two system, and was passed directly into the
respective line-level or digital audio inputs. Digital audio was
tested using both coax and optical cable. In the sound card
control software, the audio was sent directly from the input channel
into the WAVE IN L/R (via the Windows API, I assume). The
sampling rate for the profile was 96kHz.
The sampling rate in all LabVIEW functions was set to 96kHz. The sample rate set in the AP Digital generator was 96kHz.

In this test, everything looks fine. The audio input is at
Full-scale for the E-mu's ADCs. It is exhibiting expected 16-bit
performance (with dithering).

Now we instruct the driver to capture sound in 24 bits. Notice
that the noise floor and THD+N go up considerably. Effects of
truncation become visible on the time-domain display.

Now we drop the input level to -20dBu. The performance
starts to look a little messy but is still acceptable. Note,
however, the high peaks on the odd harmonics.

Now we try to capture at 24 bits. The effects of truncation are extreme at this low signal level.

Now we are at extremely low signal levels. Individual
quantization levels can be seen on the signal. Dither is also
present. Performance is still good.

However, when increasing the resolution to 24 (which should increase
the number of quantization levels), our signal is reduced to a square
wave. Obviously something is wrong.

Now on to the digital tests. We start with full-scale. We
used an AP outputting a properly dithered 16-bit signal over an optical
cable. The soundcard is instructed to receive in 16 bit
mode. It looks good.

Using the same input, we change to 24 bit receive mode.

Now we set up the AP to output a properly dithered 24-bit signal at
full-scale. The dips in the frequency domain show us that
something is wrong.

Now we decrease the amplitude to a low level. Well-implemented dither is shown here clearly.

However, receiving in 24-bit mode reduces the signal to a dithered square wave.

Here is the low-level signal with the AP generating a 24-bit
signal. Dither is applied, but vanishes in the e-mu 1616m.
It seems the dither level has been changed. This is the cause of
our dips from before.

And finally, we transmit and receive in 24-bits. Here are the results.
We have achieved similar results using several of your breakout boxes and soundcards.
Attached are all screenshots, as well as the main VI (AP Test.vi) and
the dependent vi's. There are a number of SVT vi's in the
project, but they can be ignored since they are not related to the
problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I took a look at the code you attached, but it appears that you may have left out the subvi that actually acquires the sound. When you say Windows API, I assume that you are calling a DLL at some point. How are you configuring the inputs (or what function are you using)? It could be (and this is just a guess) that when you specify 24 bits, the DLL returns the data in a very specific format. If you don't interpret the bits that are returned correctly, LabVIEW may not know what to do with them, as LabVIEW does not have a native 24-bit datatype. If there is any documentation for these function calls, our answer might there...

I have surround sound with my LCD TV. Will my new iPad into HDML connection and Utube, iTunes etc. produce surround sound?
ATV definitely supports AC3 DD 5.1... etc, but definately not through AirPlay, only streamed through the inet.
I also found, in the case of Netflix, that the AC3 is preserved in the highest bandwidth mode but not available in the lowest. (frankly i did not test the intermediate bandwidth)
I was quite pleased with the sound and picture from Netflix.
I am not so patiently waiting for AirPlay to support AC3 DD or DDPlus because I record my home video in %.1 surround (AVCHD) and can preserve it through Final Cut Pro and DVD or Red Laser, but cannot use the intended cable replacement (AirPlay) to play them.
Bummer..
I think/hope if more people request surround sound via AirPlay Apple may then follow through on this otherwise good idea.

I bought yesterday the Mpeg2 option. The problem is that the mpg files have no sound sound when i play them. Theses files come from windows recorded with a sony HD camera. If i use the program Mplayer ( freeware ) everything is ok. Can you tell me what can i do to have sound with quicktime mpeg2

What Klaus1 is attempting to point out is that the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component is a video only component. As such, the audio is compatible only if the audio format in the multiplexed file is already QT compatible with your system configuration. An MPEG file normally consists of MPEG-2 video (handled by the component you purchased) which is multiplexed with MPEG-1 layer audio (MP1, MP2, or MP3), AC3, or PCM audio. If all you want to do is make your file playable with audio in the QT X and/or QT 7 media player, then the easiest approach is to simply convert the non-playing audio compression format to one that is supported. In most cases that would be an MPEG file type containing MPEG-2 video (from the source file) re-multiplexed with MPEG-1, Layer 2 (MP2) audio. This is a very common combination compatible with both Mac and PC platforms.
Since you already have the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component installed, all you really need is the free MPEG Streamclip application. Simply open the file in MPEG Streamclip, select the "Convert to MPEG with MP2 audio..." option, and provide a new name for your target file. The Streamclip application will then de-mux the file, convert the audio (probably AC3) to MP2 audio, re-mux the MP2 audio with the original MPEG-2 video and copy it to the newly named MPEG file container. Since the video is not re-compressed by this action, the work flow is reasonably fast. Further, if you have a lot of files to convert, you can even set up a batch list of files to be converted. MPEG Streamclips is a very handy application and highly recommended if you plan to do much trimming/limited editing of MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 content on a Mac. -
I have a e9150t with a blu-ray dvd player. I can't get any sound with my external speakers. The only way I seem to be able to get sound is with blue tooth headphones. I tried disabling all but the external and making them the default but they still don't work. They work with everything else so I know it's not them.
There should be two or even more options in the sound properties. One will be a generic one the other one should be a HDMI or hi dif one. I think you deleted one by accident. I think if you uninstall the sound driver, restart the machine and reinstall the sound driver it should put them back.
You can uninstall the sound driver by going to the control panel, programs and select the sound driver to remove it.
To install it go to start, all programs, my toshiba, toshiba application installer. Select the sound driver. Hope this works. -

I'm back with a new problem. On a Gateway laptop running Windows XP, I have no sound with Flash. Sounds are coming through on Media player and with web sites home page. When I play a you tube vid or email vid there is no sound? ????

However, the little speaker icon had disappeared from the tray about the
same time my audio problems had started and has never returned so there may
be deeper issues.

However, Audition remained the more high end sound editing tool. Soundbooth was locked to a multiple channel editing approach. In Audition, single editing is easy - you simply click the L or R at the right end of the sound channel to lock it and then you can edit the other channel only.
Soundbooth has been discontinued and Audition now has taken its place from CS6 to the Creative Cloud.
The above is some background info. To your current situation, you can use a workaround like:
* Export your audio file to separate channels by File > Export > Channels to mono files.
You will get 2 files with _L and _R suffix.
You can then edit them separately. You can go from Mono to Stereo by the following step.
Or
* Choose - Edit > Insert > Channels into New Multitrack file.
That will separate the Left and Right Channels and add them to a new multitrack file.
You can then click the Edit link at the top right of the channel to edit it.
You can then save that file as a new audio file.

I just purchased my first flat screen TV. It's a 23L1350U. My chin is still on the floor as to the quality of the picture. I've been using a 27"Zenith for the last 35 years and thought it still had a good picture. The picture on this flat screen is just awesome!! But, I will have to say that it is no good with cable. VERY poor picture that Comcast is giving me. So, I bought an outside antenna hoping to get the 4 netowrks so I can get off of cable. The problem is that I don't have sound using the antenna. I get a 4-5 bar signal on the 3 stations I receive so that's not a problem. I went throught the menu looking for something to change that will give me sound but everything I have tried hasn't worked. Why am I getting a razor sharp, crystal clear picture but no sound with the antenna but a lousy picture with sound on cable? I do have it set to antenna in the menu. If I can get this to work I want to get a BIG Toshiba for the living room using antenna. Thanks to all.
Yes, I am using coax for both. I am wondering if my signal might be "overdriven" since the TV tower is located up on a hill 600 feet just behind my house and I'm getting too strong of a signal. I was able to get buy a set of old rabbit ears that has a 300 ohm twin lead that I connected to a 75 ohm balun that slid onto the coax connector on the back of the TV thinking that I might be able to reduce the signal a bit from the outside antenna but I still didn't have audio. Even hanging a just a two foot piece of coax from the coax connector gave me a strong 4 bar signal but still no sound. I visited a TV repair shop and asked them and they said I must not have the settings in the audio section in the menu set right. I tried making changes in the audio menu but nothing works. I tried resetting the TV using the menu but to no avail. A call to Toshiba didn't help as they told me to send it to them for repair. My 35 year old Zenith NEVER gave me any problems but I buy a new Toshiba and right away there are problems. Kinda dissapointed. Meanwhile I'm still using the old Zenith becuase the Toshiba on cable is almost unwatchable. Looks very unfocused with shadows and ringing in the picture. Hard on the eyes. I hate like heck to go with Comcast's HD at $12 more a month when I watch 90% of the time the 4 networks that I can get with the antenna. I wanted to get off of cable. I might ask one of my neighbors if I could try the rabbit ears on their sets to see if they have that problem too.

I have tried all suggestions provided by nviel which seemed to be along the right track but I still have no sound with flashplayer using IE8 and Vista Home Premium. My regedit settings are correct when I go back thru them. Adobe's site didn't want me to go back to flashplayer 9 that was fully functional. I have no problem loading the program which seems to be another common problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times!!!
I did have sound from all speakers not long ago but now sound is limited to the main/front outs. Using realtek alc888. As usual enabling environment effects/echo makes sound come from all other speakers but I have never liked any of the effects/echo. Usually have at least three sets of speakers hooked up at all times and they all work with other applications as they used to all work with flash???
This happens in both firefox and IE7.
My main front outs are hooked up to the "big stereo" which are not on all the time and would really like to get sound from the side and rear speakers again.
This may be a windows update problem too but I am not sure??? -

Do you have any sound? Do you hear the startup chime? Does iTunes play audio, for example? Is the same true of the built-in speakers and the headphone port? If you use the Accounts System Preference to create a new user and log out and then log in as the new user, does the new user get sound with those applications?
If you "zap the PRAM" you will reset the general system volume, but those applications may each have a volume of their own. If the system volume is up and the application volume is down, you still won't hear anything. You can reset the PRAM by restarting and holding down on the Apple-option-p-r keys all at the same time. Keep holding them down until you hear the startup chime for the third time. Then let go of the keys and allow the iBook to continue starting up.

I started having this problem last week. A lot of sites with embedded video players play without sound for me (youtube, etc.). This doesn't happen every time and I've found that it happens most often when I set the video to play in HD(720). Sometimes I'll hear sharp sreeches or cherps instead of sound. Sometimes, after waiting 5 mins and trying to play the video over and over, it will suddenly start working.
I'm running in Winodows XP s.p. 3 32 bit and my broswer is firefox, though I don't believe it works in chrome either.
What I've tried:
Reinstalling firefox
Reinstalling flash player 10
Changing my speakers settings to 2/2.1 speakers.
Installing flash player 9
I've had the most success unintalling flash player 10 and installing flash player 9. All my sound issues are fixed! However, now I cannot play video at all on some sites, because they require flash player 10!
