No Sound with "Trim Back" or "Trim Fwrd" keys

Hi,
When using these two keys in the Timeline, I hear no sound. I do hear sound when using the arrow left and arrow right keys. But I need to hear sound as I am trimming. Is there something I can do to hear sound when using the "Trim Back" and "Trim Fwrd" keys?
thanks
Dual 2GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   FCP 5

I do not hear any sound in the Trim Window when using the [ & ] keys either. I do hear sound when using the JKL keys, but again that is just playing the sequence - not trimming. I must be doing something wrong. It doesn't make since why it would not play sound when trimming.
Actually, that's just the way that FCP operates - no sound when trimming.
As for what I meant when I said you might be able to use the Trim Edit window, use Dynamic Trimming (as Jerry mentions).
Or, if you prefer to step thru frame by frame for precision's sake (which is what it seems like), a workflow I use is:
Switch to the Ripple tool (tap the R key twice)
Double-click the first of your clips to load it into the Viewer
Step thru until you've reach your desired In point, then press I
(Your timeline should 'ripple' accordingly (unless you've got clips on tracks above)
Press Shift-O to jump to the current clip's Out point
Step thru until you've reach your desired Out point, then press O
Press Down Arrow to load the next clip from your Timeline into the Viewer
Repeat from step 3

  • EXS24 : how can I launch and stop sound with key (instead of holding key)

    Hi,
I'm using EXS24 to launch sounds (like pads) : I've created a specific instrument with one sound on each note (with differents zones). I've checked the box "One-" to have the sound that continues without holding the key, but I would like to be able to stop the sound with the same (or an other) key.
    WIthout stopping the other sounds.
How can I do this ??
    Thanks for your help !
    Etienne

You can make groups, have your "sample off" key assigned to a short audio file of silence (or just turn the volume parameter of that sample to -96 in the zone editing area of the EXS.
Make the polyphony of the groups to 1. So you hit your one shot and it is playing through, when you hit the 'blank' key it plays instead - which is playing nothing.
Depending on what you need, you can copy the blank sound into different groups (hold option and drag) - but this would stop all groups with one key. So if you need independent control, you can copy the same blank sample to different keys, and then group those individually with the different sample triggers.

  • Problem with trimmed project

The project in Premiere Pro CC for Mac was trimmed by project mahager, then when I open trimmed project, clips in sequence was in nonexistent part of original video file.
    Like this:
What is that? How can I fix it?
    thank you in advance.
    Yermek

This is a problem I have from time to time with Trimmed Projects.  Even though the media is there, for some reason Premiere can't see it.  It's maddening because it's very hard to duplicate and thus troubleshoot.  But when it happens, there's no sensible explanation.
Our discussion on this problem is here:
Re: Trimmed Project sequence not working
Here's one thing you can try that sometimes works:
    1. take all your media out of the trimmed project folder and put it in a different folder somewhere else
    2. launch the trimmed project
    3. the offline window comes up automatically with a list of missing clips. UNCHECK the align timecode box and manually reconnect all the trimmed clips.
    4. zebra stripes gone. sequence plays.

  • Sounds with fades not playing back consistently

Have other people encountered this, and maybe found a fix or workaround? The new fade tool seems to be extremely buggy. Sound chunks with fades on them only seem to play back fades some of the time. Very often the part with the fade doesn't play back at all, with the sound starting abruptly at the end of the fade. This happens even on the simplest sessions, and seems to happen often on bounce/export, even if the sound usually plays back fine in the session.
This is a huge problem, it makes the new fade tool pretty much completely unusable.

I'm not using edgecommons. I'm using buzz! for the sounds.
Checking other threads on sound was very helpful in getting the sound set-up. I've been unable to find a thread about sounds not playing after upload except certain formats not playing in some browser. That shouldn't be my issue since I have the sounds in multiple formats, but I'm obviously overlooking something so...

  • I restarted my iphone and when it booted back up i received a loud pining sound with a message stating please give me back my iphone.  it popped up for a second and went away.

I just restarted my iphone because of lag and when it popped back up there was a loud pinging sound with a message that appeared that stated give me back my iphone. It  went away after a few seconds and the sound stopped.  I restarted 4 times since then to see if it happened again but it never occured.
After doing a bit of looking around online i noticed that messages like these appear through the find my iphone app.  I bought the phone new a year ago from my provider and broke it right out of the box and everything so i know didnt buy a stolen phone or anything.
Help or adice on the issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response.  I thought about maybe i was somehow messing around in icloud but i dont quite recall doing that but with new toys you never know what you may press.  I just wanted to see if there was some sort of glitch going around perhaps.
I've changed my passwords for all my accts to be on the safe side as it is looking like there is no glitch that may cause this.
it's beginning to look more and more like it was caused by a person.
    thanks a bunch.

  • Xfinity X1 with Sonos Playbar - nightly reboot of X1 causes sound to come back on

Hi, I have a Sonos Playbar directly connected to my Xfinity X1 cable box via TOSLINK (I prefer to connect it this way versus connecting the Playbar to my TV since it enables me to get 5.1 surround, which my TV can't pass through). This works very well except for the fact that when the Xfinity X1 box does its nightly reboot, the sound starts feeding back through the Playbar even though when the TV had been powered off the sound had stopped. This can be "fixed" by putting the volume on the Playbar down to zero before falling asleep, but I'd prefer that it not occur at all, since it's a rude awakening (pun intended) to be woken up if/when I forget. Any advice? Thanks,Chris

You are currently doing the only "fix" I am aware of unless you are willing to invest in some 3rd party products.
First of all, I do not use the Comcast remotes. I am a HUGE advocate of 3rd party universal remotes and I own a wide variety of them. That allowed me buy a 3rd party TOSLINK switcher (roughly $32) which I added to my Playbar. The switcher I bought has four inputs which can be controlled by IR remote along with the power on/off. So not only does my X1 box work in 5.1 with my Playbar, so do all of my other sources and it is fully controllable from remote including sound on/off.
So your answer is yes you can do it if you are willing to spend a few $$$. A Harmony 650 remote is roughly $50-$60 and is fully capable of handling this along with much more. As I mentioned earlier, the TOSLINK switch I bought was about $32. Once properly programmed the setup works perfectly and it is super simple to use.

  • No sound with quicktime MPEG 2 program

I bought yesterday the Mpeg2 option. The problem is that the mpg files have no sound sound when i play them. Theses files come from windows recorded with a sony HD camera. If i use the program Mplayer ( freeware ) everything is ok. Can you tell me what can i do to have sound with quicktime mpeg2

Can you tell me what can i do to have sound with quicktime mpeg2
What Klaus1 is attempting to point out is that the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component is a video only component. As such, the audio is compatible only if the audio format in the multiplexed file is already QT compatible with your system configuration. An MPEG file normally consists of MPEG-2 video (handled by the component you purchased) which is multiplexed with MPEG-1 layer audio (MP1, MP2, or MP3), AC3, or PCM audio. If all you want to do is make your file playable with audio in the QT X and/or QT 7 media player, then the easiest approach is to simply convert the non-playing audio compression format to one that is supported. In most cases that would be an MPEG file type containing MPEG-2 video (from the source file) re-multiplexed with MPEG-1, Layer 2 (MP2) audio. This is a very common combination compatible with both Mac and PC platforms.
Since you already have the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback component installed, all you really need is the free MPEG Streamclip application. Simply open the file in MPEG Streamclip, select the "Convert to MPEG with MP2 audio..." option, and provide a new name for your target file. The Streamclip application will then de-mux the file, convert the audio (probably AC3) to MP2 audio, re-mux the MP2 audio with the original MPEG-2 video and copy it to the newly named MPEG file container. Since the video is not re-compressed by this action, the work flow is reasonably fast. Further, if you have a lot of files to convert, you can even set up a batch list of files to be converted. MPEG Streamclips is a very handy application and highly recommended if you plan to do much trimming/limited editing of MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 content on a Mac.

Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • When external speakers are plugged in to headphone jack, sound randomly goes back to internal speakers or digital audio setting, then back again

I have an essentially new MacBook Pro with Lion and all updates applied, and am wondering if this is a hardware or software problem.  Essentially with something plugged into the headphone jack, things work as they are supposed to for a while, then the sound will switch back to internal speakers, or sometimes 'digital out' (I can watch it change in the system settings), and then often switch back.  It doesn't seem to follow any sort of pattern or be related to any specific application that could be open, and happens with different sources of audio (iTunes, streaming from the web), and different external speakers or headphones plugged in.

Sounds hardware related. If it's brand new, and you're still under warranty I would have it checked out.
I have not experienced this on my computer.
As I understand it, you have analog RCA outputs from an 1/8" to left and right RCA outputs. when you're randomly using the computer, it'll switch to internal speakers, then to digital audio, back to your stereo analog external speakers.
This should not be happening and if it's happening with streaming content (I am unaware of anything that streams in 5.1 digital audio) then this must be something that an apple specialist should look at and consider.
Does this happen with the headphone jack out? when you hold your finger over the headphone jack area does a red beam come out of it *blinking* or just on? This will be a good indicator that your audio hardware is faulty. are you running HDMI out?

  • No Mic Sound with Pulseaudio, works fine with Alsa.

Have a Acer Aspire One D225E that I've set up with Gnome 3. Everything seems to be working except I'm not getting any sound out of my microphone. I've messed around with the sound settings in the gnome settings app with no success. Using alsamixer, I've made sure the mic channel is unmuted.
I'm able to record sound with Audacity using Alsa and play it back fine. When I switch to pulseaudio however, I get nothing. This wouldn't be a problem, except skype only allows you to use pulseaudio to record if you have that installed.
I've checked the wiki troubleshooting section on Pulseaudio and found the section on Acer Aspires, but solutions in the link led to a dead end. Nothing has worked so far that I've tried.

  • Recording sound with Soundbooth

I managed to record sound with the system 'sound recorder', but when I try to record sound in soundbooth with the same mic (simple cheap mic) there is nothing showing on the meter and nothing records. Can somebody please explain to me what is the problem?

While Premiere and Soundbooth both support a Windows audio standard called ASIO, both also include a driver that will let you use audio devices that do not support this format.  The driver is configured by default, but may not always select the proper input port - depending on the audio device and what Windows reports to the application.
Fortunately, it's not too difficult to tinker around and find the right setting.  In Soundbooth, choose Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware...  In the dialog that pops up, you should see a drop-down labeled "Default Device"  If you are running Soundbooth CS4, you should see "Soundbooth 2.0 WDM Sound" listed here.  Click the Settings button, and in the new dialog, click the "Input" tab.  Here you'll see a list of input ports for your selected audio device.  Make certain your microphone port is enabled, and click OK a few times to get back to the main program.  Click the Record button and make sure the microphone input is selected in the Port: dropdown.  Try recording and see if this solves the problem.
If it still does not record, or you do not see the proper input to enable, you may need to verify the proper audio device is selected, or if you're running Windows Vista, that the input port you want to use is enabled in Window's Audio settings.  You can find this by right clicking on the speaker icon in your system try and choose "Recording Devices."
    Good luck!

  • No sound with Blu-Ray

I have a e9150t with a blu-ray dvd player. I can't get any sound with my external speakers. The only way I seem to be able to get sound is with blue tooth headphones. I tried disabling all but the external and making them the default but they still don't work. They work with everything else so I know it's not them.

There should be two or even more options in the sound properties.  One will be a generic one the other one should be a HDMI or hi dif one.  I think you deleted one by accident.  I think if you uninstall the sound driver, restart the machine and reinstall the sound driver it should put them back.
You can uninstall the sound driver by going to the control panel, programs and select the sound driver to remove it.
To install it go to start, all programs, my toshiba, toshiba application installer.  Select the sound driver.  Hope this works.

  • No Sound with Flash 10

    Hi,
I'm back with a new problem. On a Gateway laptop running Windows XP, I have no sound with Flash. Sounds are coming through on Media player and with web sites home page. When I play a you tube vid or email vid there is no sound? ????
    Thanks for your help.

I did the ten step codec cleaning, I think you posted that originally if not
I'll dig up the link, sorry I'm at work.  After that I ran malwarebytes (no
malware), then I accessed the audio properties under the control panel and
monkeyed with them, they'd been changed to modem#0 from my normal semantec
harware.  I changed that and rebooted and everything was seemingly okay.
However, the little speaker icon had disappeared from the tray about the
same time my audio problems had started and has never returned so there may
    be deeper issues.

  • No Sound with QuickTime 7.0.4 video streams on Intel

I just ran the latest QuickTime software update (7.0.4 Pro) and now I get no sound when viewing streaming video. This only happens on my MacBook Pro.
