  • No sound in powerpoint e-mails

When my wife views some powerpoint e-mails on her PC there is a music accompaniment.
But, when she forwards them to me, the presentation opens with Keynote and there is never any sound.
I notice that there are Quicktime controls but they are not available to use and the volume is all the way down. Can you help?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4)

Does your iMac have an Intel processor? If it does and you have Bootcamp, this is what can be done:
    - boot into Windows and open the pps presentation using Explorer
    - save it as Web page on the desktop (it becomes a folder)
    - open the folder, locate the sound files and drag them onto the Windows desktop
    - boot into OS X
    - double click the Windows icon on your desktop and drag the sound file onto your OS X desktop
    - If the file is in some Windows format, you can use Audacity to change it to a format Quicktime understands
    - if the original file was pps change it to ppt and put the sound file back in.
Of course I can watch the presentation when I'm running Windows but sometimes I just want to be able to see it as many times as I wish in the comfort and safety of OS X

  • How to import sounds in Powerpoint to Captivate?

When I import Powerpoint slides into my Captivate show, the animation displays, but the sound effects in the Ppt slide don't play in Captivate.  The sound file comes from Clip Organizer and is a Wave file and opens with Windows Media Player.
I really need to finish this show, could somebody please help?  Much appreciated!

    Hi there
If the file is in WAV format try this. Click Start > Run, type sndrec32 into the Run dialog and press Enter. This should open the Windows Sound Recorder application. From inside Sound Recorder, click File > Open and navigate to the WAV file. Click File > Save As and choose the Change... button at the bottom of the dialog. Make no changes and click OK. (this action should convert the format to PCM encoding)
Now that you have changed the file try importing into Captivate again and see if it works.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Importing sound from powerpoint 13 to Captivate 7

I am converting powerpoint 2013 using the high defintion feature.  Is there a reason this is not working.  I thought captivate 7 converted all animations and audio.  Is it related to my selection during the recvording process in powerpoint related to sound file type.  Cna this be avoided in the future when I record in powerpoint?  Thanks for your help.

I've seen this issue reported by others. Unfortunately I have no explanation for why it doesn't seem to work. Earlier I tested by recording and importing to create a project from PPT and my audio came in just fine. I'm using a Windows 7 PC with Office 2010.
I know that doesn't help you resolve the issue for the moment, but you do have options here.
Option one is to use Captivate's "video recording" feature and capture system sounds. Then play the PPT and record it as it plays using Captivate.
Option two is to locate the .PPTX file using Windows file explorer. Copy it and rename the copy from .PPTX to .ZIP. From there you are able to extract the assets (such as the desired audio). Then you may add the audio separately to either an object or as slide narration in Adobe Captivate.
Hope fhis helps a smidge... Rick

  • Missing sound in PowerPoint presentation in KeyNote

Sorry if this has been asked - my search came up empty:
A friend sent me an email with a .pps file attached. I used KeyNote to open it, and the slide show is displayed perfectly, but the musical background is not produced. I can't see any KeyNote prefs I have overlooked. Is it possibly something the sender needs to do before emailing it? (I believe this is a file that my friend received, watched on his Windows box and then forwarded to me, rather than one he created so the sound was already saved with the pictures by whoever put it together.)

That is not a feature in the Pages app for iPad.

  • Playing Sound Locks SMART Board Software

Several teachers at our school just got new Lenovo T520's with 64-bit Windows 7.  We have SMART Board Interactive Whiteboards and run SMART Notebook software.  When sound is played by this program, the program locks.  I have been in contact with SMART Technologies, but we cannot tell what is going on. This is what we know:
    - sound works on other programs
    - Conexant audio drivers are up to date
    - the SMART Notebook program works on other machines
        - on our other Lenovo's (T510 32-bit Win 7)
        - some other 64-bit Win 7 machines, various manufactures
    - disabling sound enhancements doesn't keep the program from locking
    - generic Windows sound drivers don't keep the program from locking
SMART Tech suspects something with audiodg.exe, but we can't figure it out.
I don't know if anyone on these forums uses SMART Board, but I thought I'd ask for general suggestions as we are clueless.  any help would be appreciated.

Yes, we got this problem resolved on our computers. I don't know if it's the same on yours, but for us it was that our Lenovo's came pre-loaded with Corel Win DVD.  This program has codecs that contain errors.  It affected other program as well.  Linked sound in PowerPoint would not play either.  That may be the same issue you are having with your pdf files.
I suggest you uninstall any program from Corel or ULead as it uses the same codecs.
So the bug turned out to be neither from SMART or Lenovo, but from a third company who's programs just happened to be present.  This was long and difficult to sort out, but had some great help from SMART Tech.  You can follow the tread at the SMART Exchange Forum, which I suggest you join, if you have not already.

    Hope it helps!
Interesting, I registered my Corel software DVD software which was suppose to allow me to get updates etc. However, the service packs they have for it are not allowed for the OEM versions. Clearly there are updates but we cannot install them when downloaded from Corel. I flags the version is not supported.
I suppose the solution is to purge the Corel software and invest in supported software which can be patched. The release installed is not the latested and they don't provide updates directly. It must be maddening that this is the case of your grief.

  • Audio Playback lost intermediately

I have a new Thinkpad T430s that was preinstalled with Win8, but later, at my request, wiped and preinstalled with Win7 ultimate. From the start, there were problems with the Audio. Startup sounds played OK, but then, any attempt to play an MP3 file or a movie resulted in an error message. This happened regardless of player used (MS Media player, Nero software, and even when playing movies/sounds within Powerpoint Presentations). For example, attempting to play an MP3 file with Windows media Player gives rise to the message "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file."
Strangely enough,  It is sufficient to open the "Sound" applet in the Control Panel - without changing anything! - to resolve the problem for a while, until it reappears at some stage (the problem nearly always appears after a cold reboot, but usually not after wakeup).
I have tried everything I can think of. The only thing that removes the problem permanently is disabling the "High Definition Audio Device" in Device Manager (a device that seems to be using Microsoft drivers), To clarify, this device appears in addition to the Realtek High Definition Audio device (that uses the Realtek drivers)
Uninstalling and reinstalling the latest audio drivers from the Lenovo web site did not change the situation.
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Removed the Realtek Audio software from Lenovo web site (6.0.1.6710/5.10.0.6710)
and replaced these  with older drivers (Realtek Audio 6.0.1.5869.)
This seemed to solve all audio problems, This took out the Dolby Home Theater 4 in the process but at least the audio is 100% robust now.

  • Presentation with Voice Annotation

    To all:
I am about to embark on a project of creating an extensive slide presentation with voice narration. I've used PPT before with good results but without sound. I would like to be able to do my new project in Keynote 3 but I'm not sure how to best handle the addition of voice narration.
I believe there is a way to embed sound with powerpoint and then save out to a QT movie. Keynote has a way of recording sound for each slide but I'm not sure how to best do this and whether or not the sound will carry over. All comments are appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Howard
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I've used both Powerpoint and Keynote for this, and both work, but I find that Keynote is easier to use. I teach college anthropology courses, and this basically is how I make my lectures each week for my online class. I use Amadeus II to record the sound files as Mp3s and name each sound file designating which slide they go with (chap1-1.mp3, chap1-2.mp3, etc). GarageBand would work, but Amadeus has a simpler interface. In PowerPoint you have to use a series of menu options to add the sound file to the slide, in Keynote just drag-and-drop the sound files onto the slides. Once the sound files are in place, go to File>Export and choose "Self-Playing Movie" from the drop down menu. Set a slide duration and build length of 1... this means that once the sound file finishes, the slide will change after 1 second. If you leave the slide duration at 5 (the default), there will be a 5 second gap between the end of the sound file and the slide advancing. The Interactive Movie option means the viewer would have to advance the slide once the sound file is finished, rather than the slides automatically advancing at the end of the sound. Change the video format settings in the "custom" area of the "Formats" drop down menu. I use 600 x 450 pixels, and since my slides are text only, I use 1 frame per second. Once everything is set, click "export". The process of creating the movie file will take a while (30 minutes or more, depending on your computer, the length of the movie and the settings you chose) Be aware that this QT file can be very large. A 25-30 slide presentation with a voice-over that runs 20-25 minutes can be over 200 megabytes, depending on what size you set for the video and the framerate. To reduce the size to something that can be posted on the web or sent through the mail I use QuickTime Pro to re-save the movie using some of the more thorough compression options.
    I hope this helps-
    Katrina

  • Mac office 2011

Myself and seveal other students in class with me are using mac computers, we are unsuccessfully trying every method suggested to get our computers to accept sound from the power point presentations put up on the online presentations for our classes.
They work on a pc, but not on a mac.... I have tried downloading flash player, flash presenter( which I really do not want to have to pay the full price for when the trial version did not work), I have tried the filp 4 thing... nothing seems to work.
Surely the magnificent mac works! surely, when my whole household has now gone over $5000.00 in to switch, the answer is not
buying a 400.00 HP lap top!! say it aint so.... I was a hard sell for the MAC swtich.... tell me you guys are not going to die by no sound via powerpoints via university on-line  course!!!!

  • Nokia 900, screen freezes cannot reboot, etc and o...

    Hi
I am now on my 2nd 900. I bought one back on May 4th. Within a couple of weeks, the screen would freeze up.  You could still hear/use the voice command, but no matter how you tried, you could not reset (hard or soft) and the screen would just stay like that, time not changing, etc. for a couple of hours.
I went back to AT&T and it unfroze itself while I was there.  It was frozen for over 2 hours.  It did it again and again.  On June 10th, I spent over 2 hours on AT&T and then Nokia's tech support line (using another phone to call) they only suggested totally wiping it out and starting again, not what I'd consider a viable solution.
Last week, it did it one more time and I took it to a different AT&T store and they (for the first time) suggested I get it replaced and called tech support for me.  Despite massive documentation on how often the phone had frozen up and calls, emails, in persons, to tech support since I had gotten it, Nokia was only willing to send me a refurbished model (over 30 days, nobody suggested I return it before).  This time the phone was frozen for over 3 hours and when it came back up, it had lost all data for the past week (including a very important test result from the NIH).  Later that evening, all the texts and data reappeared.
The new to me phone arrived yesterday and since there is apparently no backup and restore option, I spent most of yesterday making it look like the one I was returning.  Today, this one locked up again, I went back to
AT&T who just shrugged.  It was frozen for 40 minutes.
The only consistency I can see is MOST of the freezes come after I've received a text message.  As I said, the phone will continue to 'talk' to me and take commands, but nothing works, none of the buttons, etc.
I have no idea what to do at this point, I totally have no faith in this phone or even Nokia at this point and I'm apparently 'stuck' with it for the 2 years of my contract.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows where the underscore character on the keyboard is, that would be a nice feature (don't even get me going on the lack of apps, and no sound in PowerPoint)!!
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Today is Sept 21, 2013. My 15 month old Nokia 900 windows phone will not start. I really liked it.
Reading some of the threads I realize now that I was lucky to have it last this long.
The phone will not start, cycles through vibrate, black screen, white/lightblue screen, nokia screen, then Rethink possible AT&T screen where it stays or recycles around again. Sometimes I get the battery screen with low in the red. I tried all the recomended fixes that I could find here and at Nokia site. No luck.
My phone was fully charged yesterday morning before and was barely used yesterday.
Screen locked last night. Shut it down and then restarted and then the above mentioned problem and would not start.
All of these problems are document on this discussionand Nokia web site but no real solution.
Have tried most of the things suggested on the web site except the wipe out data reboot.
If I did that and it works I might as well get a new phone.
Not so easy to back up your data/info with the Nokia windows phone versus say the Samsung
    1. lost photos - luckily I do not use it that much
    2. lost videos - not that great
    3. music - can rebuild
    3. Lost apps - all free ones luckily
    4. Will have restore/rebuild address/phone book from my last save (unfortunately that was May) and many changes
    5. Lesson learned back everything up more often on a regular basis.
    6. Never used it for email - so that will not be a problem
But what a pain.  And I do not have a phone.
Will be calling Nokia on Monday - wish me luck. My expectations are very low.
Went to the AT&T store today. One gal tried to help but basically the same things I had tried.
Then the blame game. Nokia knew plenty of problems etc, newers models ie 920 are better, but if you check this web site plenty of the other models have these problems
I had a Blackberry for 5 years and it always worked even after much abuse. Even at the end when it crashed, I could remove the battery - hard reboot - and it always started and functioned again. Plus the Blackberry had great software to syncrcronize and/or save. But Blackberry did not keep up with the times.
Attraction of a smart phone was too great. Got the Nokia 900 - Nokia's attempt to catch up with the times. With so many reports of similarly painful problems, I will no longer be recommending the Nokia phones. Nokia will probably be going the way of Blackberry - downward. Too little too late and lots of problems. Shame as I liked the functionality of the phone and ability to have multiple things opened with AT&T network. Really not AT&T's fault that Nokia phone did not last.
But a real pain in the butt now. An body with any alternative solutions let me know.

    Hello hertzog 10.3.9
First of all, welcome to the Apple discussions.
Did you try the MS discussion forum?
Do a google search, as I did for you> an type 'powerpoint discussion forum' there are a lot of forums to search.
I use Powerpoint myself a lot, but had never any issues to deal with.
Let me know if so ...
Discussions is a ongoing process. Hope to see you around anytime you need us, or can offer help to others.

  • I want to use a video projector with powerpoint can I use my mac to drive it- and what about sound?

I want to use a video projector with powerpoint can I use my mac to drive it- and what about sound?

    Hi Scott,
You should be able to. If the projector has a speaker with acceptable sound, that's one option, otherwise powered speakers or a surround system.
What connections does the projector have?
Exactly which MBP do you have?

  • No sound when viewing powerpoint show

I have received an powerpoint show which contains sound. But there's no sound when I view it in Keynote.
I have tried opening it on my work pc, a windows/office2003 combination, and music pours out of the speakers.
I have searched for others with this problem, but the latest post is almost two years old. So was this ever fixed or do I need to do something?
I have already upgraded to the latest 9.0.3 iWork release.

    FYI
The ppt/pps with problems are the ones where the sound file is .wav
For reasons beyond my understanding, Keynote does not support this basic sound format. Comon Apple, this format has been there ever since I remember. I even had a sampler on my C64, which handled this format.
    What gives?
Temporary solution was to install OpenOffice 3.1 on my mom's imac. We both remain clueless as to why we paid for the apple office suite, and then have to install an open source variant to handle ppt's with .wav sound files.
How is a macaficionado/fanboy to explain this to a mac-convert?

  • Converting Powerpoint to Keynote-no sound

Anyone have any tips on converting Powerpoint presentations to Keynote ones? When I open an existing PP pres in Keynote, the sound does not appear to come with it. Any thoughts as to how to solve? Thanks all!

    Loandogs,
This might not be a universal solution but it worked for my files.
David Firth on August 11 07 gave the best hint to go to
    http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30319539/why-no-sound-track-using.asp x
There, the July 21 07 follow-up of Steve Rindsberg was right.
In short: Use Audacity to open your pps or ppt file, export to WAV, insert the WAV in your Keynote file.

  • PowerPoint sound clip from my iTunes library

I know this is a basic question, but I'm trying to insert a sound clip into a PowerPoint presentation. I want to use a song from my iTunes library, but I can't figure out how to do that without importing the song onto a CD. I'd rather not have to insert a CD every time I play my PowerPoint presentation.
How do I either pull directly from iTunes for my sound clip or save that clip to my desktop? I've been able to insert sound clips I already have on my desktop.
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Chris
This forum is dedicated to the integrated application, AppleWorks. Your question seems to be more about iTunes than even PowerPoint. I suggest posting your question in the iTunes forum. Other questions about Microsoft Office would get more specific answers in Microsoft's forums at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups.
