No sounds in Mail

Suddenly sounds (new mail, mail sent etc.) disappeared. I don't think I changed any relavant settings. Anyone know what might have caused this?

Thanks How - unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Wish it did...
I tried the suggestions in another thread for assigning Mail to open the aiff files under Mail/Contents/Resources but they didn't work either.

  • How to customise "Sounds" in Mail??

    Hello everyone...
I have used Mac OS X for quite a long time but have never get around to using Mail until recently at the office... (Been using Entourage...)
How do you customise "sounds" in Mail? i.e. Not only for 'New Incoming Mail' (which I saw, can use a System Alert Sound or others...) What about other sounds like 'Sent Mail' and 'Error'...?
    Thanks and cheers

You need to replace the aiff files packaged in Mail.app.
Some details and a link to a howto here.

  • Lost sound on mail attachments

I lost sound for mail attachments when I installed Mountain Lion.  Have sound for everything else.  Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean about sound for an attachment in Mail. However, the sounds in mail are controlled through Mail > Preferences in the menu bar up top. Under the General tab you can control the sounds:

  • Can I change sounds ?  Mail, messages

HOw can I change the sounds for mail, messages and alerts on my iPad 2?

Settings>General>Sounds> and then tap the item that you want to change - New Mail, Sent Mail, etc and then select the sound that you want to use in the next window.

  • Text feedback (instead of sound) from Mail

I prefer to work with the sound off. Is it possible to make Mail to give me text feedback instead of those sounds. Like "No new messages on server". Or "Could not connect to server"? Like most of mail clients are used to do...

I have been using that facility as my "Sent Mail" no longer gives a whoosh, _which I miss_, and the Mail Activity feature at the bottom of the sidebar does not give any information on sending either.
To add to my suspicion that my Mail application may be losing its integrity, I have had the experience of late of getting "Error. Message could not be appended to the Outbox." this is intermittent and clears with restarting the Mac/Mail or both.
Repairing disk permissions with Disk utility and running Disk Warrior and Tech Tool pro has had no effect , neither did a particularly cheeky trashing of my apple.mail.plist. Further than that I have no wish to go without detailed instructions!!
The same application works without these problems on my alternative firewire Start up disk and also whenever I create a "Guest" account. I've obviously managed to damage this application all on my own.
Things got a bit fraught after the last 10.5.5 and Security Update (Accounts greyed out etc.,) following which I moved my AIM Yahoo and Gmail out of Mail and I access them, better, from their own sites on-line.
I wonder if they took something with them which should have been left behind.
I just have mac Mail and my ISP mail in the Mail application at present.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

  • How to get iPhone sounds for Mail.app on Snow Leopard?

    Hi,
I like the "new text message" sound called "Chime". I would like to use this sound for new mails in Mail.app, too. Is there any way I can download this sound on my MacBook Pro (from some webpage?)?
The sound "Glas" is available both on Mail.app and on the iPhone, but note the "Chime" sound.
    Cheers

  • How to get swoosh sound when mail gets sent

How to get the swoosh sound back when mail gets sent?

I'm talking about my iMac desktop. I have OSX 10.9.5. I used to hear the swoosh sound when I sent an e-mail. Suddenly it's gone, and I can't find out how to get it back. I miss it!

  • No sound incoming mail native app

i don't get any sound alert when i get a new message using the mac mail app on my new macbook pro retina
i get the notification bubble but no sound
i have checked the sound settings on both OS preferences and mail app, everything is on but the sound is not working
i do get a sound when i send an email but nothing when it's an incoming message
sound notifications DO work in other apps...imessage etc etc

    Hi kevmadk,
I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with Mail. It sounds like you have been on the right track in your troubleshooting. In order to rule out any issues with the actual alert sound file itself, you may want to try changing the alert sound to a different/custom sound and testing, as noted in the following article:

I had the exact same thing and spent a lot of time with tech support about it. This is going to sound odd, but I (at least think ) have solved the problem by turning up the vollume! By the way, this is as of 5 minutes ago, and I just now decided to kill some time browsing support forums. (Is a bad habit...)
Look around under the Sound preferences section under
the blue apple logo, then System Preference then Sound (Its the second row, last column of the little icons there). Just set the sliders for sound output volume higher than they are now and at least try that.
I was looking at an operating system restore with backup and recover before I "gave it one last try".
    Good luck

  • Lost Sounds in Mail using POP acct.

Of all the threads I've researched here about losing my Mail sounds none are related to POP accounts. I'm not sure why that makes a difference but every thread addresses IMAP acct. and a solution to this problem. Having a POP acct. I do not have control over the "idle" feature which all these posts refer to so if anyone knows why/how I might have lost all my mail sounds feel free to chime in. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and Mail 4.4 on a Macbook Pro. I had all my sounds up until yesterday when they all disappeared.

There are two places for you to check your sound:
First, in Mail, open Preferences (under Mail menu) > General > make sure you have something checked under "new messages sound".
And, check System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects > do you have something chosen there? Then move to "Output" and make sure you have your speakers (internal unless you have external speakers) highlighted.
Hopefully those will get your mail sound back.

  • Double sound for mail notifications

Hi!  Since I've upgraded my iphone 3g to ios 4.2.1, I've been having double mail notification sounds.  Here's how they happen.  I basicaly hear the sound (and-or vibration) I usually hear when I receive an email, only when I go to check it out, there's no email, even when I open the inbox to manually check it out.  A minute later, I hear the sound again, and the email is received.  It's as if there's a sound to predict an incoming message, and does it every single time.  Not a big problem, but annoying anyways.
I already tried restoring, but did back up from my settings.  I want to see if there's a solution other than a restore + set up as a new phone...  Anyone can help?

Settings > Notification Center > Mail > Select the mail account (if more than one) > Alert Sound > None

  • No sound from Mail or iChat after 10.4.4?

So I think the 10.4.4 update broke sound output from Mail and iChat. iTunes works, Adium works, anything else that plays sounds works, except Mail and iChat. Strange thing is, I can go into Mail and change the new mail sound and as I click through the sounds from the menu, I can hear them play, but I don't hear the sound when I receive a new message! Same with iChat; I can change the sounds in the preferences and actually hear them, but they don't play when the application events are supposed to trigger those sounds.
BTW: This is using internal speakers only.. I don't have external speakers.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I tried to search but I didn't come up with anything definitive.

    This magically fixed itself

  • How do I turn off sound for mail notifications?

Just got my first iPhone (I know, welcome to the 21st Century). I've had Android before this. I have it synced to my work e-mail, but I don't want a sound playing every time I get a work e-mail, because then my phone annoyingly chirps all day at work, when I already get an alert on my computer for the new mail. I only want to be able, when away from the office, to do a quick check and see that I have a new e-mail.
In Sound, I selected "None" for New Mail, both for the Alert Tone and the Vibration. In Notification Center, "Mail" shows up in the "Do Not Include" list. Yet still, my iPhone plays a tone every single time a new e-mail comes in. What am I doing wrong?

Settings > Notification Center > Mail > Select the mail account (if more than one) > Alert Sound > None

  • Staticky sound - Is Mail the culprit?

Sound on my Mac is staticky. All sounds, even the startup sound. Sometimes I can get it to go away, but not by any consistent action. I've tried resetting pram and the pmu and nvram. I've tried restarting and shutting down and then starting.
The last time I got it working, it worked in iTunes and World of Warcraft and I assume everywhere else. Instead of putting my computer to sleep overnight, I left it awake. The next day, I tried iTunes and sound was fine. Then I started Mail and the sound immediately went all staticky (and I'm still trying to get it to work properly again). What did Mail do?
MacFixIt has suggested that there are lot of problems with iTunes 6.0.1 (I can read the topics, but not the articles since I do not subscribe). Could this be a manifestation of that? If so, how do I revert back to iTunes 6.0?
I have VirusBarrier X and it reports that my computer is clean (no surprise there . Software Update also reports that my computer is up-to-date.
Also I have Klipsch external speakers, but this problem is present whether or not I am using them.
    Any suggestions?

One thing to check: System Preferences - Sound, is the "Play user interface sound effects" checked?

  • No sound on mail attachment

I have a video sent to me via e-mail from a cell phone. I opened the message using my iphone and the mail app. The video downloads and plays via quiktime, but there is no sound.
Doing the same thing on my laptop, the video plays with sound.
    Any help out there?

The sound is probably not encoded with a codec supported by the iPhone
