No Source List, No Events List - no way to view stored photos

Hi, When I open iphoto, I see a gray screen and the only photos visible are the ones I downloaded in the last session. There is no tab for "events," no source list, no libraries tab, no way to access any previous events and photos. They are in there somewhere, because when I download again, photos that were stored on the cameras after they were previously download are listed as "duplicates."
First, why is this happening, and second, if anyone knows how I can gain access to my thousands of previous photos, how can I ensure that the "Events" tabs and Source lists are always visible? Help!
Thank you for your assistance, Mac geniuses!

I have just spent the last 4 days trying to figure out where the menu went. I have rebuilt my libraries several times. Gone back in the time machine, etc.. I was blaming my new installation of Snow Leopard and iPhoto 09. Boy do I feel dumb ... and thankful that I finally found your post.

is there a way to view my photos if my phone was stolen and has been turned off?

No. All you can do if you have Find My Phone setup is erase the device or lock it. It must be connected to Wi-Fi in order for the commands to take effect.

    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • Is there a way to view private photos from Flickr on my Apple TV (2nd gen)?

I've just started using Flickr as a central platform from which to view family photos, in part because of the number of ways there are to access them, e.g. iPhone, iPad, web, and Apple TV.
Now, however, it appears the only way to get photos from Flickr to show up my Apple TV (2nd gen), is to make them public. I do not wish for all my photos to be public; is there any way around this restriction?

I am not aware of any workarounds to this restriction.

I am not at home, but I need a phone # off my contact list. Is there a way to view my contact from my account? Since our contact are on a server, you'd think that would be possable.... but then again, we're talking about skype here.... not much common sense in managment!
    Thanks!

Your contact list can only be accessed using Skype application installed on your computer/device.
However, if you Skype account is linked with Microsoft account, then you can login to Outlook.com on the web and tere you should alos be able to see your contact list.

  • Map View, Best way to view only desired locations?

I have large areas peppered with dozens of thumbtack locations, and would like a quick way to view only photos whose thumbtacks are shown in the current map view, without creating a new Smart Album to do so.
iPhoto has this ability, and hoping someone here knows a work-around in Aperture.
It would be nice if manually selecting multiple thumbtacks worked, but only one at a time seems possible.

What do you mean by "view only photos"? The only way I know to restrict the Images shown in the Browser is to use a filter.
In all views including Places view the Browser shows the contents of the currently selected container with the current filter applied.  You can apply filters based on the Rule "Place" by selecting from the tiles at the top of the map view.  You cannot select more than one item at a time, but you can manually add additional "Place" rules to the filter.
You can also apply filters by clicking the small blue-circled arrow that shows when you hover your cursor on the pin label that pops up when you hover over, or select, a pin.  This works with only one pin at a time, however.
You should be able to select all Images associated with each pin you click by pressing and holding the Command key while clicking pins one after the other.  You could then create a new Album which will show just those selected Images.
I know of no way to create a filter from multiple selected pins.
Léonie's method of zooming out to create new pins will allow you to create a filter based on the newly created pin.  Note that the pins change dynamically with the zoom level of the map.  But you are still limited to one pin per filter unless you manually add "Place" Rules.

It would be nice if clicking the "small blue-circled arrow" would react to multiple selected Location Pins, rather than just one!
By "view only photos," I was hoping there is a similar function to iPhoto, in that the current map view, and the Pins shown within that view, can be used to quickly "find" images.
Aperture does have this functionality, but only through creating a new Smart Album.  This is located in the "Gear" icon, bottom left in Places view.
leonieDF, Perhaps the "Hide Place badges" option would help?

  • Is there a way to adjust ios7 to show just list of events, not hours?

Is there a way to adjust the new IOS7 calendar DAY VIEW so you just see the list of events for  the day; so you don't have to scroll down all the hours of day? (want it back the old way!) Can it be adjusted?
Its really annoying the current way; when you glance at your phone you don't see all the appointments for the day, have to scroll up and down, and I end up missing things and its time consuming. Same annoying thing in WEEKLY VIEW.  Is there a way to change that in preferences or something?
If not, lets all write in feedback and ask them to change that back!!

Open the link and the shipping number will be on the Safari page that opens.

  • Is there a way to view ical events as a list?

Is there a way to view ical events as a list?

If you just want to export events then Bento will let you access and export your calendars. I think they still have a free trial version available. If you want to manipulate the actual ical data Bento will let you do that too.
Not sure if there's any other solution. Maybe someone else will have a good suggestion too.
    Good luck!

  • Events list on Source

Can anyone hlep me to show the list of events on the Source list on the left?

    Thanks for that
Sorry to be thick but how does someone else open my library please?
Do you know someone with Aperture 3.6, who could do that for you?
Then drag your iPhoto library to an external drive or memory stick, large enough to hold your library plus some working space.
The drive needs to be formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled), with the "Ignore Ownership" flag enabled, like described in this document.
Your friend would connect this drive with the library to her/his mac and launch Aperture. Then use the command "File >Switch to library" and select your library. Now import one new photo to the library, to force Aperture to update the events.
Then quit Aperture and eject the drive.
Connect the drive to your mac and test the copied library in iPhoto (use "File > Switch to Library"), if it still works well, before you replace your regular library by it.

  • How do you get a list of events in a Calendar in Mountain Lion?

I use a lot of calendars in Calendar to organize events. I am trying to consolidate these calendars because I have been having weird issues such as two calendars being linked to each other in a strange way. I want to move events into new calendars and delete the old calendars once I am certain they are empty. To do this, I want to be able to list all events in a given calendar. (Not page through month by month.) You used to be able to do this by searching for "." This no longer works.  How can I get a list of all events in a single calendar?

If you are moving from an On My Mac Calendar to another On My Mac calendar or to an iCloud Calendar, you can use this AppleScript:
    tell application "Calendar"
move events of calendar "Source" to calendar "Destination"
    end tell
When I tried to move from an iCloud Calendar, Calendar got a server error.
Further testing and it will move to an iCloud, but not iCloud to iCloud. Also, it doesn't move, although it looks that way. Once you close and open Calendar, it has the events in both locations.

  • Event list view in iCal3?

i went to the apple store to see iCal in 10.5. i still have 10.4 on my various computers between home and work. i was asking about how to view the list of events in a list window, like in iCal 2 in 10.4. in iCal2, i click on the small icon that looks like a bulleted list in the lower right side of the ical frame. it displays the list of events in cronological order. some of the other open source calendars (chandler, sunbird) have this display option also, which i find quite useful.
i am on the verge of buying 10.5, in part for some better calendar features, particularly the mail & iCal linking or maybe they call it data detectors in mail... however, i wanted to see more of the iCal features. i couldn't figure out how to get the list mode in iCal3 that i can get in iCal2. i asked a number of employees at the apple store. and no one could figure it out. the best they could do was get a search results window which looks similar to the list view in iCal 2, but no one could figure out how to just show all the events in that window as just a list, like iCal2.
does anyone know how to display a list of the events in iCal3 or if iCal3 can do a list mode like iCal2?
    thanks-

I was just tring to figure this out myself. After about 45 mins of trying to make it work, and trying various searches, I gave up and came to the discussion forums. Lo-and-behold, I'm not the only one with this question. I suggest that we all provide some feedback to Apple on this :
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ical.html
This is a feature that should really be put back in. The least that they could do is provide a search method for all events on a specific calendar.

  • ICal day view upcoming events list--can it be turned off?

Just upgraded to 10.7 and the changes to iCal (v. 5.0.3) are horrifying. I plan most of my daily work on iCal and really need the Day view of the calendar to fill most of the window and show more details on my calendar items as it did before in 10.6. As it is now, the left half of the screen is now taken over by a list of upcoming events which gives the daily view too little space, so all my calendar items and notes are truncated. Makes it very difficult to work with. Is there a way to turn that upcoming view off? I don't understand why it's there. If I've selected "day" as my view option, it stands to reason that I don't need upcoming events for this week. The rationale behind that being there taking up all that unnecessary space is beyond me.
Barring that, anyone have any suggestions for an iCal replacement? I have a long list of other complaints but this one is a big one. If I can't fix this, I need to move on to something else.

Same question here... over a year later!  Mine's about iCal 6, but it's the very same issue.
Cannot stand the scrolling list of events.  When I select a day view, I want to concentrate on that day's events-- and not see a long list of other events for other days!
Rick, did you ever find a solutiion?  Maybe there's a hidden Terminal command to turn it off.  I kept looking for dot within the pane divider to collapse it, but it's not there.  Nor is there an option under Preferences!
Long live Snow Leopard and the old iCal!

  • Sortable event list in iCal?

I have several different calendars set up in iCal. Is there any way to see all events from one calendar (or a selection of calendars) in an editable, sortable list?
I don't see a way to tell if a calendar is empty or not without doing a search, or attempting to delete the calendar first. (iCal lets you delete the calendar if it's empty, but warns you first if it has something in it.) Searching is not an efficient method. If I search for "a," a common vowel likely to be in lots of messages, it still won't bring up my appointment to "Pick up some red plums," so I end up having to repeat the search for each vowel in each calendar.
I've also had duplicate issues when using .Mac. It's really frustrating when you have no idea how many duplicates there are, since you can't see the entire calendar all at once.
A simple sortable list view, like in Mail, would solve both these problems.
I sent feedback to Apple on this, but I'm wondering if anyone here knows of a built in way to do it that I've just missed, or maybe a third party program that would add this functionality.

Don H., I feel your pain.
I just picked up my new MBP from the Apple Store tonight. They imported all of my data, and when I picked up the computer, they took me through each app to make sure all my data had imported correctly. When they showed me iCal, it looked perfect--all of my stuff was there, hour by hour, in Day view. It basically looked just like it did in Snow Leopard. My friend's birthday is today, so I was delighted to see that Event at the top of the hour-by-hour list--that's how I knew my data was there.
When I opened iCal at home, it looks completely different. I now have this horrible formatting with a giant monthly calendar and a list of events on the left. The hour-by-hour list (which is what I use iCal for) is so narrow that I can't read any of the entries in their entirety. I dragged the border as far as I could to maximize the width of the hour-by-hour list and it's still only a little over an inch wide.  Meanwhile, the list of events that I DON'T need is 4 to 5 inches wide.
I've looked through all of the help menus and the only options for "viewing the calendar differently" are Day, Week, Month or Year.
What I don't understand is, why did it look normal while I was at the store, but completely different when I got home?  If it had looked like this at the store, I could've asked for help while I was there. I'm disappointed in the new format but can't figure out how to get back to what it looked like at the store. Wish I could help. I'll keep watching this discussion to see if you get help. Good luck.
