No space on my mini

I just received my mini as a gift a couple of months ago and everything was great at first. All songs I got from itunes (only about 50 total) went straight to the mini and I was only using about 228MB of space. My mini is a 4GB. Well now I cannot add any more songs to my ipod, I receive a message that there is not enough free space. My ipod is showing 3.49GB used. I actually erased all songs from the ipod so I could start all over and it still says the same thing. Can someone please help me? I really don't want to have to send it back. Thanks.

Several issues going on here, Jen.
You'll need to 'Add' the songs back into your iTunes Library:
First, make sure that iTunes is correctly looking in the right Folder for your song files:
--- Be certain that you know the current location of your music files (best to confirm this)
--- In iTunes choose: Edit==>Preferences==>Advanced tab
--- Select 'Change' and browse to the music folder in your PC drive (if it isn’t already)
--- Click OK to save that setting
--- If a dialog box pops up asking if you want iTunes to rename the files, click "yes"
Then:
-- In iTunes: File==>Add Folder to Library
-- Browse to your main iTunes folder and select it
You can now determine how large the songs are - both individually and in total. If the individual size of the files are 'normal' (usually 3-6MB in filesize and 2-6 minutes in length), then you do not need to 'Convert' the songs. If they are in a larger, Lossless format, then converting them can be done.
If the song files are fine, then you most likely have an iPod 'memory management' issue. This seems to happen from time to time. I have not read a good explanation, but I suspect that the iPod's operating system isn't the best at memory management.
These are the ‘standard’ fist steps to this type of issue:
First, make sure that you have emptied the Recycle Bin or the ‘Trash’ when the iPod is connected and seen by the computer.
Then try Resetting Your iPod to correct this problem. It may take several attempts.
If that does not solve the problem, then Restore Your iPod and put the music back on your iPod, from iTunes.

iOS device backups are stored in your iTunes library.
Move your iTunes library to an external drive.

  • Aavailabe Space in iPad mini with retina display 16 GB

    Hello,
I am considering to buy iPad mini with retina display 16 GB model. After searching a lot, I couldn't find the space available for the users. Can you please tell me the available memory for users (apart from the OS)?
It would also be helpful if you also post the memory available for users in iPad Air 16 GB.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vaibhav Sharan

You'll have approximately 13 gig and change to use after you take out the operating system.

  • Green Line and black Space on Mac Mini TV

I am getting a green line  and a black open space on the side of my Mac Mini TV when I set it up.  I have tried every different resouloution and it is still there.  The problem is that when I click Detect Displays, nothing happens to the screen.
Please help, I just got this today and I want it to function properly ASAP for a Project I am doing.

What kind of connector is it using?
DHCP seems to be a problem, do you have a DVI or VGA adapter & does the TV have that?

  • How to get iPad mini photos onto a usb device to free up space on ipad mini

How can I transfer Ipad Mini photos to a USB device to free up space on Ipad Mini

You can't directly. Your best bet may be to use a cloud service such as DropBox, Media fire or Box to store them prior to deleting. From any of those services you can download to a computer and then to a USB drive or other external storage.

  • Does TC give Extra HDD space for Mac Mini?

I use MAC Mini and its HDD is getting close to full. Purchasing Time Capsule means I have extra more HDD for Data? or Is just for the Backup. What should I get for extra HDD space?

Time Capsule is designed for your backups.
If the Mac Mini needs more storage space, you might be able to pull the internal hard drive and add a higher capacity drive. A shop can give you the details on this.
Another option would be to add an external drive to the Mini connected by USB or FireWire. Buy as much capacity as you can, especially if you plan to add movies, music, photos. etc.  Drives seem to have a way of filling up much faster than might have expected.
If you decide to get the TIme Capsule for backups, it will backup both the Mac Mini and the external hard drive.
(If you do not have backups, there will almost surely be a day when you wish you did).

  • I'm having problems with the install of iTunes 10.7 it seems to be going well and then at the very end of the blue bar it doesnt seem to complete? All of my software is up to date and plenty of space on the mini?

I'm having problems installing iTunes 10.7. It seems to be going well and then at the last part of the blue bar it just doesn't complete. All software is up to date and there is plen of room on the mini? I have tried like 4 times and am ready to throw it out the window.

I noticed some problems with the Apple Support sites here the last day or so.
Try again using > Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

  • Making more HD space on my mini

    Hi guys
Can anyone tell me what would be the best make space on my mac. I have 17.99Gb space out of a 74.21GB capacity on my HD. I already have an external 250GIG HD. But I am wanting to make more space on my mac. I have already transferred big files like images and video's that I need to my external HD. But I am wondering how else I can free space on the mac HD without having to install additional software to do this?
    Thanks in advance.

If you don't use GarageBand, there is a lot of stuff in
Library > Application Support > GarageBand
that could go -- or be moved to another drive.
Note that this "Library" is the one inside your Macintosh HD icon, not the one inside your Home folder.

  • ICloud Drive "steals" space from my Mac Mini

I have the new Mac Mini with 1 TB HD, 200GB in iCloud Drive and an external 2TB HD. Whenever I copy files to iCloud Drive, Finder indicates that the space available on the Mini decreases at the same rate, as if I'm duplicating the files in the Mini itself. For example, I currently have 650GB available in Mini, if I copy 10GB of files (photos, films, documents etc) to iCloud Drive, the free space on the Mini will drop to 640GB. The same thing happens with Google Drive, but that doesn't happen when I copy files to the external HD. Why is that? Am I doing anything wrong? It is a "bug" of Finder or OSX?

When you add a file to the iCloud Drive on your Mac
It's moved from it's original location on your hard drive to the iCloud Drive folder on your hard drive which is an invisible folder inside your Home/Library/Mobile Documents folder:
You still have only one version on your hard drive only it is located in that invisible folder.  Also it is copied into in the online iCloud Drive:
If you delete the file from the local iCloud Drive  it will be removed on the online drive.

  • Please Help! Why do I have so much OTHER space on my Ipod Mini

    Hi
For some reason I have over 1gb of OTHER taking up space on my Mini- What is it and how do I get rid of it? My Friend has the same model and doesn't have it
    Thanks Alot
    Vicki

    Hi Vicki,
Try resotirng your iPod to factory settings. Typically, that fixes this kind of issue, since restoring deletes all of the contents off your iPod.
For instructions on how to restore an iPod, check out this Knowledge Base article:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Does that fix the issue, or do you still have too much "Other" space on your iPod?

  • Not enough space on mini for playlists

ITunes says there is not enough space on the mini for my playlists so it creates it's own selection and makes it's own playlist. Why can't I just copy a few playlists that fit on the mini instead of what it's doing? Can anyone help?

I was indeed. Went into the settings and had it only copy the playlists, not the library itself. Thanks for helping Peter...

  • Best USB 2.0 Hub to use with iPods and Mac Mini 2009?

I am using my Mac Mini as my iTunes station, and I have five iPods
that are connected to my master iTunes Station.
Recently I needed to add a USB drive to add more space to the mini.
Along with a wireless keyboard ( that uses a USB transmuting dongle)
I am short two USB ports. Can anyone recommend a good USB hub
that is compatible with iPod Touch, iPod Mini, IPod Shuffle, iPod Classic 30GB,
and iPod Classic 160GB for iTunes synching and charging?

Anyone have any luck with this hub:

looks like the White Belkin one, but is on Amazon for about half the price, and
other than being brown, I don't see a difference?

  • Downloading High Def Mini DV through Macbook pro to external hard drive

Hi, I am making a 90min High def documentary with the hopes of selling it comercialy. I purchased a Sony hdr-hc7 and we shot 28 hours of footage with another 30 hrs to come. My plan is to rent a tape deck to download the DVM-63HD Mini DV Video Cassettes through my Macbook pro to an external hard drive.
My question is will I lose the High Def quality because I only have one firewire 400 input and will have to daisy chain the tape deck through the back of the external Hard drive. I asume that I'll need about 2000 gbs of external storage for the project, correct? Also, will my system be able to handle the editing, compresion and then creation of a master (maybe renting a Blue ray disc burner).
I have a macbook pro 15" with 1gb ddr2 sdram 667 mhz speed. There is a Bank 0 and a Bank 1 slot for ram that list have ing 1gb of ram (does this mean there are 2gb of ram?). Also, the firewire is 400mb/sec. Graphics card is an ATY,RadeonX1600. I'm using final cut pro 5.1.4. that I bought with finalcut studio pro.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
If you use Apple Intermediate Codec to capture, you'll need 12 to 15 meg/second of space, that's an hefty 45 to 48 gig. for one hour. ( an external hard disk about 58 X 48 gig: 2784 gig ...)
As I read in FCS2 additionnal documentation regarding work in HDV and other formats, you can capture HDV natively (same hard drive space than regular mini DV), but you will need more processor power to display and scroll content than media captured with AIC.

  • Can I recover mini hard drive?  1.66 core duo - fatal error w/ DU, AHT - OK

I had an internal hard drive issue after an interupted system update on 12/25 (two things were downloading, and I think it ran out of disk space). The mini (1.66 core due, 1 GB, superdrive, 10.4.?) would not restart, and had folder w/ a question mark. I could not find the drive w/ DU on the startup disk.
I was able to access the drive via firewire from my old G4 tower, and recovered all the data (using Prosoft Engineering's Data Rescue product - $99). The disk utility program on the G4 (OS 10.2.8) found no issues on the failed drive, and after I partitioned it and erased it with DU, the AHT on the mini install disk also found no issues.
The disk utility on the install disk says the drive has reported a "fatal hardware error to disk utility". I erased the drive via firewire on the G4, and was able to add 5 GB of photos to it and retrieve them w/ no issues - so the drive seems fine. Please help, I am very frustrated w/ Mac right now. I ordered a new mini (2.0 core duo from J&R, even w/ new mini announcement pending) to get moving again fast, but that one came on Jan 2nd with a faulty DVI port and has to be returned. I am now stuck on my old G4 only.
There were some useful posts I found - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1528568&tstart=4
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8340380&#8340380
But they don't fit exactly. On the format post, I don't have the "options" button available when I erase the failed HD (to fill it with all zeros). I've tried erasing it, but when I put the install disks in, it won't allow me to install to it.
Question: Is there any other way I might be able to install the OS onto my drive?
My fallback option is to buy a firewire external HD and just use that (maybe I can use my internal one as extra space, just not as a boot disk?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Who carries around a Mac mini?

My question is more a complaint than a question.
I'm really disappointed with the new Mac Mini because of the lacking DVD drive!
Not that I couldn't see that this may be the future. I am a proud MacBook Air owner since generation 1! I always liked the idea of making a portable device as light and small as possible. I've never felt the need for a external optical drive since I could do DVD or CD Sharing with my Mac Mini in case I needed access to a drive.
But leaving out the DVD drive of the only affordable desktop Mac leaves me trapped. I planned to swap my old mini for a new one so I would have a MBA for my computer needs when I am on the go and a new fast Mac Mini as an always on Desktop Computer at home (hooked up to my 24'' LED cinema display).
The Tech Specs  of both Mac would tell me:
"But if an app you need isn’t available from the Mac App Store, you can use DVD or CD Sharing. This convenient feature of OS X lets you wirelessly “borrow” the optical drive of a nearby Mac or PC. So you can install applications from a DVD or CD and have full access to an optical drive without having to carry one around."
The last part of the last sentence is kind of ridiculous for the mini. Who would carry around a Mac Mini? Copy and past the specs from the MBA? Not a good idea - obviously! Somebody at apple should look at this an change the wording.
But back to my point: If I am not willing to throw my Cinema display out and replace it with an iMac (which would make no sense alongside a Mini) I would have to get an external drive! And that is way more annoying than "carrying around a DVD drive in my Mac Mini"! Especially when there is obviously still space in the mini's housing where the DVD drive could go (that's my conclusion from looking at the pictures ifixit posted today).
The world is not yet ready for a regular household without a computer dvd drive: My car stereo has a CD drive. The kinds music machine have CD drives. I have old DVDs I want to watch...
I am sorry for not asking a question... But maybe somebody at Apple at least reads this and arranges the wording in the tech specs to be changed!

What you do is maybe that is not the typical usage of an Mac Mini...
And you are right, I don't need the DVD drive that often. But I simply don't get over the fact, that I'll have to buy an external drive when it would  still perfectly fit into the Mini... It's A) not cheaper for me and B) I'll have another electronic device taking up the place on my or in my desk.
I would not complain if the new Mini was even smaller than the old one... or in the near future, when Mac OS X may run on System on a Chip Systems... A Mac Mini at the size of the current Apple TV... I would not complain about the DVD Drive not being integrated...
And, yes indeed... I thought of getting an iMac instead and hook my Cinema Display to it... But would not be able to use the SSD of my current Mini... or at least, it would not be easy!
But thankx for your thoughts anyway!!!! Apreciate it!
