No Space to shrink in C windows 8.1

I have around 50GB in C, 30 unused and would like to shrink around 15GB for booting a new OS, when I try to shrink it gives me 0 space available to shrink, not sure if this is because there is not much space in the Drive, I tried defragmenting but it seems
this does not help, I also tried to disable pagefile but for some reason it gives me an error as if I am not the admin, can anyone help please?

If you’re running System Restore and/or Hibernation, you could temporarily turn them off.
If you still cannot shrink the disk sufficiently, remove it and connect it externally to a different Windows computer (not XP) and run the shrink. If the other computer is using an SSD, you will have to enable and start the Disk Defragmentation service,
but don’t forget to stop/disable the service after running the command.

100GB sounds like a good choice.
For Windows 7 alone usually about 40GB are recommended. Plus the amount of disk space for the programs and files you use in Windows.

TTBOMK the only way you can increase the Windows partition is to repartition the drive back to a single partition
Then reinstall Mountain Lion
Restore all data from backup
Create new larger partition with Boot Camp
Install Windows
Restore data from backup

Not enough space to create shadow copy Windows 8.1

I receive "There is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on storage location." error on Lenovo IdeaPad when trying to create System mage Backup. When I check "Disk mgmt." console all volumes shown to have 100% free space.
Does anyone have a remedy for this problem?

It's kind of impossible for all volumes to have 100% free space if you're running Windows from one of them, eh?
But to get more space on a volume to make shadow copies do this (excerpted from my book). Note that this assumes you're using a Start menu replacement tool, but the same concepts apply when using the Start just substitute "Press
the Win key" for "Click Start".
Here's how to increase the depth of your System Restore history:
Click Start, type protection into the search box, and click
SystemPropertiesProtection.exe when it comes up.
Click on your C: drive in the Protection Settings
box to highlight it.
Click the [ Configure ] button.
Choose the ( ) Turn on system protection setting if it is not on.
Assuming you have sufficient disk space, increase the Max Usage slider
until you have allocated at least 20 GB of storage for System Restore settings. This will give you a nice, deep multi-week System Restore history if ever you should need it.

There was a significant change from 4.3 GB to now 10.2 GB. I still have all the same apps, photos, songs, etc. So what's up? Why does my space not recover after I delete things?

This is what I did to resolve the issue. First I did a simple Reset (Home and on/off until the Apple logo appears) and it didn't help. Then I did a Restore with a reload from the backup and that also accomplished nothing. Then, I did a Restore as new with NO reload from backup and that resolved my issue.
IF you choose to try the same thing, here are some cautions. Make absolutely certain that all apps, music, movies, etc. are present in the iTunes library. Also make absolutely certain that all "regular" data, such as pdf files, Word files, etc. are present and accessible somewhere on the computer's hard drive. Be aware that you will probably lose all game data (scores, etc.). I did not investigate a solution for that because I don't play many games and I really don't care about the game history. Finally, be forewarned that it is a bit tedius recreating all your folders and putting each app where you want it.

Reaching free space with SAP DB on Windows

I am using SOLMAN with SAP DB on Windows and (funnily enough) reaching the free space on my computer (no arching mode is activated).
Can some one tell me how to proceed in this case (can I put away the log files or the data files that are not being used). How can I extend the free space without much effort?
Is there some useful transactions (like db02 in oracle) to manage the SAP DB?

I have been trying to increase my disk space for windows xp on my Imac and I am running parallels 6. before opening windows I go into configure in parallels and open the hard drive and try to move the allotted disk space from 32 gig to 64 or any other increased gig and then apply and I get the error message: resizing failed unable to resize last volume. The file system of this volume might be damaged or not supported. How do I increase the size?? I just also did a disk repair utility with Apple on the Apple side of my IMAC. Please Help!! I had uninstalled SQL server on the windows side and needed to uncompress files to install this and then I ran short on disk space.

This sounds to me that your Parallels XP file system is corrupted and not the OSX file system.
Have you checked the XP file system while running the Parallels XP yet ?

Spaces/Desktops: would like browser windows to be where I left them on restart

I have assigned various applications to various desktops. In the case of Chrome, I prefer to have different webpages in different desktops. So I use launchpad to move the window with Flickr in it (for example) to the desktop I keep Aperture in, and I move the windows with music-related pages to the window I keep iTunes in, etc. But then when I restart (and I do have the restore windows function activated), all the Chrome windows get removed from the different desktops I'd assigned them to. They're either lumped back together in one tabbed window in a single workspace, or else they don't reopen at all. Surely there's a way to turn off my computer, and restart it to find it the same way I left it. Can anybody tell me how?
It seems to me that the option to assign applications to desktops is a nice start, but what's really needed is the option to place a different set of aliases (to specific documents, folders, and websites) on each desktop. After all, what defines a workspace is the *topics* in it -- the actual content -- rather than the programs we use. Or maybe there is some such option, and I've not found it?

I just came across a solution. I think this might work for you, even though it seems kludgy:
Your situation may vary, but I'm using a MacBook Pro with an external LCD monitor and want to use both displays, each with their own desktop space
Open Mission Control and add a desktop by moving your cursor to the top right of your display and clicking on the new window that appears from the right
You should now have 3 desktops at the top of your display when Mission Control is open
In my case, my laptop's display is Desktop 1 and my external display is Desktop 3
Now, on the dock, right click on an app you're trying to stick to a particular desktop and choose Options -> Assign to Desktop X where X is the display you want the app to stay on
In my case, I want Mail to always show up on my laptop screen, which is Desktop 1, so I choose Options -> Assign to Desktop 1. The reason I say this is kludgy is because I never use Desktop 2, but it has to exist in order for the Dock -> Options -> Assign To menu to appear. If I just have Desktop 1 and Desktop 2, that option does not exist when I right click on an app in the dock.

Im getting a headache when i press space in the xcode main window the page scrolls up and down real quick, but why?

In Xcode in the main window where the code goes every time i press the space bar the page scrolls up to the top then back to the curser again really fast. If i hold my finger down on the space button then the page goes mad and i cant read anything. Please help. I am just now running Lion.

How much space should I allocate for Windows?

I have decided to install Windows 7 onto my computer. My only use for the Windows partition would be for gaming, e.g. Battlefield , some 007 games, Wings of Prey, etc......
Otherwise, I don't think I will use Windows for much else.
I may use an External hard rive, but having some of the games on the internal hardrive could be helpful.
I'm Downloading a copy of Windows 7, 64-bit.

You should make the Windows partition at least 50GB for Windows. I don't know what programs or what data you will have. So add enough space for your programs, updates, patches, and data to 50GB and you will be safe. I have 200GB but 120GB may be enough for you.

I am using MacBook Air and having both the operating system installed (Windows and linux).
My windows partition "BOOTCAMP" is having 79 GB (30 GB is still free) and Macintosh HD is of 32 GB (only 19.6 MB is free).
I am not able to login to Linux operating system because of low disk space.
I am able to login to Windows OS. I want to clear some dispace in Macintosh HD.
I would request for some help in this regard.

It is not clear how many operating systems you have, two or three. If you have a Bootcamp partition for Windows you can not have three partitions because Bootcamp won't work with more than two partitions. If you want to remove the Bootcamp partition to free up hard drive space you must use Bootcamp Assistant to remove the Bootcamp partition and return your hard drive to a single OSx partition.
So try to better explain what you have and what you want to do.

Consumption of a lot of page file space with Solution Manager over windows

HI guys,
I have installed Solution Manager 4.0 SP10 over Windows 2003 Server, Standard Edition. The server has 4 Gb of RAM and 10Gb of page file.
Before to start Solution Manager the memory used is 500Mb and the used page file is 1Gbytes, but when I start Solman, the memory used grow up to 3.8 Gbytes and the pagefile to 7Gbytes.
Is this behaviour normal?, should I need near to 8Gb to run SolMan in memory?
does someone experience or tips regarding this is issue?

All SAP guides talk about aprox. 10Gb in Win and aprox. 20Gb (max.) in Unix.
You are right (also....;-) ), but my question is regarding the consumption of this page file, for example, we have XI 3.0 installed in AIX (ABAP+JAVA like Solman), and we have 8 Gbytes of RAM installed, in scenario we have in average 1.5Gbytes of free memory and not swap space used, that means in average XI use 6,5 Gbytes of memory (including DB instance, oracle 9.2), with at least 15 users connected, in contrast Solman has only one user connected and only 6 dialog wp and use almost 10Gbytes (adding RAM and SWAP space).
Is normal that Solman 4.0 need so much memory to run?
Do you know some way to decrease the swap consumption?.....
I know, I know.......I'm asking almost for magic solutions......

How do I change animated space background of Restore to window in Mavericks

Hi, My wife just bought an iMac 21.5 with OS 10.9.2. She doesn't like animated images on screen, makes her woozy, so she wants to get rid of the animated space background that appears behind the pages displayed on the Restore to... menu item window. We can't find a preference for it.

Select a desktop image. (static) no animation.
Might want to reset the Change picture time from that pop up menu in the same Preferences window.

How do I shrink a QT window?

I'm using QT to play some soundFX for a presentation and would like to "shrink" the window that it comes up in, if possible. Is this possible? Right now I have a bunch of 2-3 second SFXs that, when opened in QT, open as full-sized windows. Is there a way to make them smaller?

That (Apple Key + h) will Hide iChat and any chat window it has open.
Clicking on the iChat icon in the DOCK brings it Back
Apple + Shift + w will close the front window which will also close the chat
Apple + w will end the chat
I don't think the last two are what you want.
