No stereo at line in

Pavilion p6157c - Windows 7
When trying to input a stereo signal from an outside source to record onto the computer, only the left channel is heard.  The computer plays stereo fine from Windows Media Player, but the Line In at the back of the machine only picks up the left channel.  I've tried a number of different stereo cords, but none of them make any difference.  What could be the problem?  I've checked within the Realtek Audio Manager for something that might not be set correctly, but everything is fine there.

I reviewed all the pertinent articles and none solve my problem.  As a matter of fact, they mostly deal with whether sound is produced at all, and not the problem of only one side of the stereo signal.  All of my settings are configured correctly.
I'm figuring it's a problem with the physical line in jack, which would be a problem I wouldn't be able to fix without purchasng another computer.
I had a problem last year with my front headphone jack, and HP couldn't fix that, either.  They don't make that part anymore, so I was told, although I know those same front jacks (Mic and Headphone) are constantly used in even their newer products.  I ended up switching the mic for the headphone, since I don't use the front mic input jack.  Now I have a working front headphone jack.
I'm disappointed in the lack of quality in the parts used, and in HP's unwillingness to go the extra mile to solve a customer's simple problem.

  • Audigy Line-in Stereo as Mono prob

I have an original Audigy which I am recording stereo through line-in but no matter what recording program or operating system (98SE & Win2000 dualboot) the left and right channels are mixed to mono. They both have the same signal on them. It plays games, music, etc. in stereo just fine. It was working a few days ago so I'm worried the sound card went bad.
I'm I missing something simple? Any thoughts?
    -thanks

<SPAN>It's a little complicated but I'm using the line-in to record two separate phototransistor voltage changes on two channels but that really is independent of the problem because both the Sound Forge and Sony Audition software left and right channel monitor levels are indicating equal levels even though they are set for 48kHz stereo sampling.<SPAN> It has worked okay for quite awhile before and the input levels are very low so I don?t think it was zapped by high input levels.
<SPAN>I did get it to work momentarily after messing with Dxdiag sound tests and the Audigy control panel speaker tests but after rebooting the computer it was back to no good.
<SPAN>I will have to say that I did install a new motherboard but the drivers are all up to date.
<SPAN>Can this be related to hardware/driver issues? I just assumed that a stereo signal coming into the card and showing up as stereo on the software was a very basic function.

The audio sockets used on the slot cover of Sound Blaster cards accept (/8-inch) miniplugs.

Line-In is stereo. Mic-In is mono.

  • Line in being recorded as mono

Alright guys, here's the deal. I've asked this before in a wordier way. I've searched through the board's past, with countless people having the same problem and not really getting a full response. See for yourself:http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ine+in%22+leftorhttp://forums.creative.com/creativel...e+in%22+stereoAnyway, here's the problem. I'll try and make it simple.
With the SB Audigy 2 Value, recording anything that outputs as stereo via LINE-IN doesn't record as stereo sound. It ends up only in the left speaker (left channel). The LINE-IN is supposed to record in stereo. YES, a stereo signal is being recorded. YES, the cable and connection is stereo. YES, all settings are set to line-in recording with stereo sound. YES, I have the newest drivers. YES, the programs I use all record in stereo. Has anyone EVER managed to record something in stereo? This could be... synthesizer output, guitar with stereo effects, a minidisc or cd player, anything that outputs stereo sound. When I say stereo, I mean two seperate channels (left/right). Not only one of them. For the love of god, somebody please give me a straight reply. This is driving me nuts. All I want to do is record stereo sound. This is necessary for basic recording.

you're welcome...and sorry if i sometimes sound a bit unfriendly....it's not my intention(but that was on another post, it's depending on how people ask...lol)
good to hear that you can use the full soundcard quality for recording.
Hint: try to record as wav 96KHz 24 bit, that's the highest quality for recording with mediasource.(after wav record you can convert it to any media compression format that you want, but wav 96KHz 24bit rocks your amplifiers...)
oh yeah another thing, above that left right volume meter you see something like avrl(auto recording volume) but only use it if you're lazy, because when not using it, you've a fixed input level(the rec slider at for example 50&#37;=0DB), recording can better be done on lower volume then too loud, lower recordings can always be edited to put peak of rec file to 0DB, when you record too loud you get clipping, everything above the 0DB will be lost.
So newbees prefer to use avrl, but the negati've part of it is: sound get louder on low level output, and it gets lower on high output, and we don't want that when making high quality recordings..
But you'll find it out, give yourself time to learn all the good possibilities for this A2zs win-soundcard.Message Edited by www_96KHz_tk on -7-2005 :3 AM

  • Creative Zen Nano Plus audio line-in recor

Im planning to buy Creative Zen Nano Plus GB.
. Does Creative Zen Nano Plus audio line-in recoreder offer excellent quality of sound music when you record a certain music through a CD player's line-in?
    2. Please rate the quality of recorded sound music from to 0.
    3. Does the recorded sound quality the same as when you just download the music file through your PC's USB connection?
    thanks.

Is there something I need to set in the player to allow it to play out of it's line-in function?
You connected the ZNP's headphone out to your car|shelf|portable stereo's line-in, right? The line-in on the ZNP itself is only used to record external audio sources onto the player. The stereos may need to be set to play back from their line-inputs if they don't detect the signal and switch automatically, but that should be explained in the corresponding manuals.

  • Problem with my x

yesterday i connected my stereo system to the card (via the headphone jack) to rip a tape. the stereo was also connected as a speaker system. after i finished ripping the tape and unplugged the stereo from line-in, i've noticed (or i just think i have) a change in the sound produced by the card. i tested it with a democd, it carries all of the frequencies (unlike my sb li've that didn't have any basses on the right channel when it burnt), but still i'm not confident about the sound. is it possible that the card's broken and gives worse sound than it should, although it still reproduces all of the spectrum?
i'm going paranoid, it's like hearing voices.
i can recall every note from the music i listen to, and the sound just... isn't right.
    i have an x-fi xtrememusic.

Thanks--I restored defaults but now I'm getting nothing through the RCAs (as opposed to distortion.) ?Not sure if I haven't reset properly or if some previously faulty component might have decided to die completely

  • Connecting my MP3 Player to a Ste

I want to connect my mp3 player to my "CX-CD375 Coby Micro Stereo System" but the only jack it has is a headphone jack. So I can't connect it. Or unless there's another way. I already tried a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable but it didn't work.
    <IMG height=49 src="http://www.pigselectronics.com/graphics/small/cbmsms.JPG" width=200> 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable.
I think I'm going to have to buy a new stereo. I found one that has a Y Audio input, will that work?
    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...duct_id=365445
And another one that has a AUX Input but I don't know how I would connect it to that. It said that It'll play music from an external device.
    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3953053

Connecting to the headphone jack of a stereo won't work, as this is an output.
If the other stereos have line-ins, aux-ins etc. chance are they'll have 2 RCA/phone sockets, so you'll need something like this cable:

  • HT3382 Is it possible to connect MacbookPro display to a TV video (RCA) input?

I would like, if possible, to connect the display image of my MacbookPro (15" late 2008) to a TV which has a video input port (yellow RCA), and associated stereo audio line input ports.  Is there any adaptor or system that will allow this?
    Sam

For video, you need two items. A Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor, such as
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A>
and a VGA to composite video adaptor, such as
    <http://www.amazon.com/PC-To-TV-Video-Converter/dp/B001CJOLBW>
For audio, you'll need a 3.5mm jack to RCA stereo cable.
(Note, the links are just examples of the type of device you need -- I don't know how well those particular ones work.)

  • Using G4 iTunes to connect to pre-amp

Is the headphone port my only way of sending iTunes to my pre-amp? If not, can I use the firewire or a USB port (or something else)? Will I get better signal quality by using the latter?

    Sorry for the late reply,
At the lower area of the back of my G4 MDD Dual there are 3 Holes for mini jacks.
1- (has ear phone icon indicator) for phone jacks
    2- (audio icon) Line in
    3- (audio icon) Line out
From manual, G4 Audio Specs G4 MDD Dual:
    Front headphone jack
    Built-in speaker
Stereo audio line in and line out minijacks
Apple speaker minijack for connection to optional Apple Pro Speakers
which G4 do you have ? perhaps, a different model ?

  • Electronic,Digital,OK..Need info on coverting albums to itunes compatible.

To whom it may concern: Being an older guy, and just recently having been given an 80 gig ipod for christmas...i ripped my entire cd collection to i tunes and promptly put those bad boys in storage. My question is: I have approximately 300 albums....and i know there are many manufacturers of USB turntables out there, is it possible to rip albums to music files on a windows xp system...and then convert those files to be compatible with my ipod? I only ask this because i am about to purchase such a device to at least get them to some type of music files...and i would like to put those on my ipod (rather than some other type of mp3 player). Cmon...we're talkin the entire Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zepelin, etc...etc, you get the idea. Why should i have to buy all that again??

... there are many manufacturers of USB turntables out there, is it possible to rip albums to music files on a windows xp system?
Yes, you don't even need any extra kit provided your stereo has line out (or a headphone socket at a push) & your PC has line in. Grab a copy of Audacity and off you go. Connect the kit, record what you play, then have fun chopping it up into individual tracks & sorting all the tags out. If you save the final tracks as mp3's they'll play on your iPod and just about anything else. I did the same with some of my rarer vinyl and some old live concerts I had on tape, but it takes time to do so my bet is you won't get around to all 300....

  • Drive and play by HK?

    Hi,
Harmon KArdon released recently the drive and play:
    http://www.harmankardon.com/drive-1/default.aspx
Anyone using it? How does it work? Is it FM transmitter only? They talk about wireing it, but I can't understand how.
I've been searching info on their web site with no luck.
    Thanks

Drive and Play work in one of 3 ways:
    1) Wireless FM Transmitter.
    2) Wired FM Module (Optional on US Models Standard on Euro).
    3) AUX Line In.
    1) and 2) work together... ie If you have 2) and pull the antenna cable out of the Drive+Play Main Unit then it work as 1) Wireless FM Transitter. You set the Frequency for FM via the 5 preset freq, or use a custom frequency of your choice from the Dri+Play FM Settings Menu.
    3) is a Hard Wired direct connection from Drive+Play to your Car's Stereo AUX-Line-IN. You turn it on via the Drive+Play Settings Menu.

  • Itrigue 5.1 5600 & Sony DVD Player Advice

    Can anybody help.
I really love the look of the Creative Itrigue 5600 5.1 Speaker Kit and was hoping to install in my living room as a home cinema solution.
Will it connect to my Sony DVD Player through its single digital connection ?
Are the speakers any good in this type of setup ?
Can I extend the cable length if necessary ?
Do I need any additional bits ie decoder or does everything i need come in the box ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Karl.

    Karl,
This DVD player only have digital output and stereo analog line out. There's a few option available for you. If you are bend on getting the I-Trigue 5600, you can either get the decoder that I have mention earlier to help decoder the signal from the DVD player to the speaker or you can connect the speaker to the stereo line out RCA jack from the DVD player Line out section. After which, use the CMSS upmix feature that's inbuilt in the speaker system to upmix the stereo sound to a virtual 5.1 surround effect. This of course isn't true 5.1 channel from the DVD sources.
Another option would be to get a digital speaker system like the Inspire GD580 that have the ability to decode DTS and Dolby without additional set of decoder box.
