No support for 60 fps MP4 on Mac.  Really? iPhoto does this, so does Live Gallery on Windows

I know Adobe has the technology to support this...they do in Premiere just fine.

I did not use the files available for download from this site. The original disks that came with my boards contained software for Windows 2000.When I upgraded to Windows XP, I rang the local?office of Creative and arranged to have the Creative?software for Windows XP?deli'vered by mail. I received a disc with all drivers for both boards and the remote control. It has the only way that I got it going on XP. The irony of buying expensi've, good quality boards is that the hardware outli'ves the operating system that it was built for originally. And to reward customer loyality, the hardware makers, stop supporting their own?flagship models in the hope that we will eventually buy their latest, more expensi've products, which in most cases is just a marketing exercise?at re-naming old?products, while increasing the prices of product lines which have poor customer demand. How many?Audigy 7. models have they been so far?99.5% of customers can not tell a SoundBlaster Li've Platinum 5. from an Audigy 7., based solely on hearing alone, since?both cards?have such similiar real world performances.

I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.

Is there some step I am missing or some connection I need? I am on the internet. Thanks!

I have now recently downloaded 10.0.2 which is confusing in itself, as, as far as I can ascertain that is actually version 11, but I'm not even sure about that.
Version 10.0.2 is the newest version and the successor to GarageBand '11 (version 6.0.5).
The '11 is referring to the iLife '11 suit of multimedia application - the older GarageBand was a part of this bundle.

  • Frustrating lack of support for Mission Control / Spaces on Mac OS

I'm posting this on the InDesign board, but this question applies equally to all apps in the Creative Suite.
Is there any way to make InDesign/Creative Suite work properly with Spaces (a feature that has been around for years now)? It is incredibly frustrating to not be able to use this excellent organisational aid with any of the Adobe apps. There seems to be a whole mishmash of problems with it, from pallettes disappearing and moving to a different space to the document you are working on, to entire apps not being visible in Mission Control. Not to mention problems when trying to hide/unhide apps.
When I'm working with any other apps on my system, I can take advantage of Mission Control, but have forego these advantages when using the Creative Suite. Isn't it really about time that Adobe put some effort into supporting these OS-level features. Whether you favour Mac OS or Windows, you should be able to take advantages of the system you prefer to work on.
Is there any word on whether CS6 will support these features? (I'm not exactly holding my breath).
    Thanks.

There is no word on anything about InDesign CS6 yet. (Those who know can't say, and I'm not aware of any substantive leaked information.)
I think that Spaces/Mission Control support is probably predicated on the Carbon to Cocoa conversion. So until InDesign is a Cocoa app, this is unlikely to improve. Personally I manage to avoid using Spaces to any significant degree, so I don't really notice these things. Have you tried Photoshop, which is a Cocoa app? Does it behave better?
I don't know to what extent these issues are specific to the app, or all tied up in libraries that are common to all the Adobe apps.

  • Premiere Elements 8 & native support for Samsung AVCHD MP4 video?

I'm excited about the release of version 8 of PSE and PE, but my big unanswered question is stated in the subject line: will Premiere Elements 8 natively support the MP4 files produced by my Samsung HMX-H104 ?
I've been entirely unsuccessful with this file format and PE7.
I've read throught the product descriptions and FAQ and Adobe makes reference to cameras from flash-drive camcorders, but doesn't offer any specifics. Native support looks like a crapshoot. Anybody with some insight to contribute?

Thanks for pointing that out -- yeah, I see my error. I just did a little bit of web searching and it's not AVCHD. This seems to pretty well summarize it:
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Samsung-SC-HMX10-Camcorder-Review-34476/Format.htm
"The Samsung ... outputs video in the H.264/MPEG-4 format (the file extension is .MP4). This highly-compressed video codec should not be confused with the competing AVCHD format. AVCHD is a type of H.264/MPEG-4 codec, but the version Samsung employs is different, with both benefits and drawbacks.
"...the MPEG-4 video ... is adequate. ... this type of MPEG-4 is space efficient and less processor-intensive to edit than AVCHD."
    ...and...
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Samsung-HMX-H105-First-Impressions-Camcorder-Review-3 6130/Compression-amp-Media.htm
"The Samsung HMX-H105 records video in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, the same as models from the previous years. MPEG-4 has clearly been adopted as the format of choice for HD camcorders, split into two camps. Sony, Canon, Panasonic, and most recently JVC, all use AVCHD, which is a subset of AVC/H.264. AVCHD experienced some serious stumbling blocks in its first few years, as existing hardware and software choked on the heavy data loads. It has, however, gotten much better in the past year. AVC/H.264 is also data-heavy, at least compared to old standard definition camcorders, but the format is easier to read. QuickTime can work perfectly with the files, and has the benefit of being free and dual-platform."
I know this aspect has all been covered to death on these forums in the past, with respect to PE7 (which chokes on any Samsung .MP4 file I throw at it). While I've bookmarked the workaround posted by you in this thread (thanks!), I was hoping to avoid the extra steps à la native compatability with PE8.

  • How can Firefox state that it is going to discontinue support for 3.6.17 when Mac OS 10.4.X cannot accept Firefox 4? This whole situation is crazy. Someone at Firefox please correct this insanity.

WE cannot download Firefox 4 because it is not compatible with Mac OS 10.4.11.

  • Support for Canon raw files in panther and iPhoto

I can't get iPhoto 6 to import the raw files (.cr2) from my Canon 400D.
I can use image capture and also Elements 4 with Raw support, so I am not sure if its the operating system level (panther) or something else.
I did use iPhoto with my previous Canon with .CRW files and that worked fine to import them, organise them and then edit etc externally in Photoshop.
Is there any way out there to do this without upgrading the OS or iPhoto, I appreciate I have a way to continue working but miss the convenience of the easy import.

Suggest you buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Deleting photostream photos from Mac within iPhoto does not remove photos from all devices.

I have photostream activated on my iPhone 5s (iOS 8.1) to backup all my photos to iCloud. This works great! When I open iPhoto, the stream is automatically updated and my photos appear. If I also delete a photo from my iPhone, the stream is once again updated and the photo disappears.
However, if I delete the photo via iPhoto via the Photostream tab on my Mac, the photostream is not updated and the photo remains on my iPhone, as well as online via icloud.com. i.e it works one way, but not the other.
    Am I doing something wrong?

However, if I delete the photo via iPhoto via the Photostream tab on my Mac, the photostream is not updated and the photo remains on my iPhone, as well as online via icloud.com. i.e it works one way, but not the other.
When you delete a photo from "My Photo Stream" in the iCloud section in iPhoto on your Mac, it will be removed from "My Photo Stream" in iCloud, and should be removed from the Photo Stream on all devices. However, the photos already downloaded to the devices from My Photo Stream will not be deleted. If automatic download is enabled on your iPhone, the photos will stay on your iPhone,

  • MST Support for MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 - DisplayPort 1.2 - Will it ever happen? (with sources)

So back in October, I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro Retina (MBPr), fully loaded with top of the line specs.  I was soooo excited to have Thunderbolt 2 tech which Intel AND Apple describes as having DisplayPort 1.2a compatibility - which up to this point is unfortunately NOT the case.  The point of the information/questions and requests in this article is to engage a conversation about the issues of not having MST support after Apple falsely mislead their consumers to think otherwise - especially when it is clear the MBPr is capable.  Please read on...
Apple advertises that the Thunderbolt 2 ports on BOTH the MBPr and the new Mac Pro (NMP) will have 4K Display support with the famed 20gb/sec Ports (DisplayPort 1.2 only requires a little above 17gb/sec).  Now that the 10.9.1 update has been released, we have failed to see MST or Multi-Stream Transport enabled on the MBPr Late 2013.  Now, as for the New Mac Pro- it DOES have MST enabled in 10.9.1 with the AMD GPUs.  For all of you out there that's questioning what this means, short answer is basically the Mac Pro will be able to power a 4K Monitor at 60Hz through the Thunderbolt 2 Port but the New MBPr is stuck with only HDMI 1.4 support which tops out at 4K 30Hz. 30Hz is unacceptable for anything but movies or a photo slideshow.  At 30Hz the cursor will jump across the screen, eliminating any of the benefits of 4K.
    BUT it gets worse...
Apple can be seen advertising that the new MBPr 15" model can power a 4K monitor THROUGH the Thunderbolt 2 Port here: http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt - This article quotes the following:
"Now with Thunderbolt 2 built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect the latest 4K desktop displays and get double the bandwidth for your peripherals. And the two generations of Thunderbolt technology are compatible with each other."
Does this not let the consumer assume that the newest MBPr will be able to drive a 4K display through the Thunderbolt 2 Port?  I would say yes it does, but at the time I wrote this, the TB2 Ports can't power a 4K display because, as previously stated, MST is disabled in Mavericks for the 15" MBPr Late 2013.
NOW, later on Apple posted the following article on 4K support here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6008
4K support on the MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013)
MacBook Pro supports 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates with the built-in HDMI port:
    3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate
4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)
In the article above the New Mac Pro is listed as having support for a 4K Display with the Thunderbolt 2 Port (or MST DisplayPort 1.2a Technology) at 60Hz with no problem.  This leads myself and many others to believe that MST will NEVER be enabled on the newest MacBook Pro Retina with Nvidia GPUs. Yes, 4K IS supported but ONLY through the HDMI 1.4 port, which has the limitation of only 30hz.  This two-faced advertising is extremely upsetting to a LOT of people, including myself.
Interestingly enough, THIS IS NOT a hardware issue.  If one ventures into Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp and connects a 4K Display via the Thunderbolt 2 (or through DP1.2) Port, the Display registers at 60Hz, thus proving that the Thundberbolt 2 Hub Controller is completely capable of MST DisplayPort functionality.  Clearly this a driver issue with Apple, Nvidia or Intel or any combination.  What Apple has done here is forcing any professional that desires stable and clear 4K technology through their MacBook Pro Retina to do so only using Windows 8.1 on their own machines!  Definitely an oxymoron if you ask me...
Later on when the Mac Pro was ready for ordering, Apple placed the Sharp PN-K321 as a compatible option for a 4K Display.  On the Store page featuring the (over three thousand dollar) Sharp 4K display, located here http://store.apple.com/us/product/HD971LL/A/sharp-32-pn-k321-4k-ultra-hd-led-mon itor?fnode=53 Apple states the following:
"Note that 4K DisplayPort operation is only compatible with the new Mac Pro (Late 2013)."
All of that being said, and I'm terribly sorry for my wordy ranting...
This brings me to a final two requests to ANYONE reading this post:
    a) Has anyone working with the new 10.9.2 Beta Update seen evidence that DisplayPort 1.2 capabilities will be enabled for the new MacBook Pro Retina (Nvidia 750M) with the promised "Graphics Driver Updates" within the next Mavericks update?
    and
    b) To others that purchased or were/are thinking of purchasing a new MacBook Pro Retina with TB2 Ports: If you are just as upset as me about this crushing blow to consumers that just purchased a $3,000 laptop that were promised something that wasn't delivered - I urge you please, write to Apple and let them know they are making a mistake.  You can do this though the support page or through http://www.apple.com/feedback
Thank you for your precious time, and if anyone has anything to contribute to this issue, please jump in....

    GOOD NEWS!
The Mavericks 10.9.3 update adds official support for Thunderbolt 2, 4K!
I'm not sure if you will be able to daisy chain anything to the 4K display.  I've read that the design of Thunderbolt 2 includes support for DisplayPort 1.2 multi-stream (MST), which allows this type of daisy chaining with 4K, but we don't know if Apple has this supported on it's machines.  Apparently it's been buggy in development because the graphics driver needs to work correctly with the Thunderbolt 2 host controller.  I'm sure they will work it out if they haven't already.
The above is all via found information on this topic, but you can follow some more discussion here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1713876
One more note on Thunderbolt worth sharing: always keep your fastest peripherals closer to the computer in the chain. If you have a TB1 device directly connected to the computer, anything further down the chain will be limited to TB1 speed/capability regardless of it's native speed.  Always connect TB2 devices first, and save anything TB1 for the end of the chain.

  • Support for multiple libraries...?

Hi, I have a question as how is the best way to manage y music libraries given my usage scenario.
First let me set the context of what I have. I have over 35GB of ripped music, that resides in an external drive. Currently this music is available through my iTunes application, but it is NOT part of my lybrary (meaning I imported but did NOT copy it into the library). I do NOT want to have 35GB of music in my notebook's HD.
My iTunes library is in my local HD (music folder). This is a small file that basically has the 'podcasts' and the 'artwork'.
What do I want? I would love to keep all my music and videos on the external drive, and have my podcasts in my local HD. This way when I am on the road, I can update the podcasts, without having to carry with me all my music.
This all works fine the way I have it now, except that every time I rip a new CD or buy music from the iTunes Store, they go to my local HD and not my external drive.
Any ideas on how to work this out? I would love support for multiple libraries, but I don't thnks it's possible as far as I looked into it.
    Thanks SO much!

This all works fine the way I have it now, except that every time I rip a new CD or buy music from the iTunes Store, they go to my local HD and not my external drive.
Set the 'iTunes Music folder location' (Preferences>Advanced>General) to the music folder on your external.
The next time you rip a CD or purchase music, it will be stored there.
Note: the 'iTunes Music folder location' is not the folder where your music is, but the location where iTunes stores imported music (and added music when 'Copy files to.....' is checked)
If you ran iTunes once with your external drive not attached/mounted, this location is reset to the internal drive.
iTunes 7 has support for multiple libraries. Press and hold the Option-key on launching iTunes until a window pops up which asks you to choose a library or create a new one.
Libra and iTunes Library Manager both work with iTunes 7 and older versions. They also save the preferences for every library you created.
    Hope this helps.

  • The "support" for app store (and itunes) is utter crap?

When I try to guy anything from the app store, I get a message telling me to complete the purchase through itunes support.  there is no itunes support, and the link to this support forum from mac appstore support is broken.  ***?  I can download the software from pirate bay for free in 5 min, but there's no official way to get app store support from apple?  I submitted an email and got a reply saying I'd get a reply in 24 hours.  I wonder how long amazon would be in business if they had 24 hour delayed email sales support for the things they sell.  What decade is this?
There is no error, but the way, just a friendly message telling me to use itunes support to complete the purchase, and itunes support tells me I can't get itunes support and suggested I send an email.
Wow.  This is such a stark difference from the support I used to be able to get when Apple sold software in their stores.
This is obviously more of a rant than a question, but I am curious if anybody else can actually get sales support for items they are trying to buy from the app store, or if everybody is as ****** as I am.

Interesting speculation.  Not really the subject matter though, but FWIW, I don't use a bank card, I use paypal, and after this occurred, I went into itunes and made sure i could still buy things, so I bought an audio book.  I then weint into paypal and made sure nothing there was obviously broken, and there wasn't anything I could see that was.
The problem I have is not that app store doesn't work (although, that's *a* problem), but the real issue is that *app store support* is broken.  Or rather, it does't exist.
This is the new customer experience for all apple software, and rumor has is, hardware too (one day).  This is so far below average that it really makes me wonder what the helll is going on at apple these days.

  • Please develop rendering support for traditional mongolian script.

A major barrier for me to move from Window to Mac is that Mac doesn't have rendering support for my own language: traditional Mongolian, whereas Microsoft does it pretty well. For example, for this major news website in traditional Mongolian: http://www.mgyxw.net/, IE is able to show everything but Mac cannot. Please develop this support as soon as possible (and also the keyboard input support as Microsoft did).

Could you post a screen shot?  It looks to me like the text of this site is not in standard unicode, but in some sort of  private use area encoding.  If that is the case, you can be sure Apple will never support display of this page.  Have you installed some special custom font to see it?

  • Enum class not supported for switch() statement in 12.4 beta?

    Hi fellow 12.4 beta testers,
It would appear "enum class" isn't supported for switch() statements in the 12.4 beta. This compiles fine under clang and g++. Will this be fixed for the final release? This currently causes compile errors for us, since __cplusplus >= 201103L evaluates to true, so our code uses "enum class" instead of plain "enum". It looks like the C++11 standard says it should be supported:

Thanks for reporting this problem! I have filed bug 18499900.
BTW, according to the C++11 standard, the code is actually not valid. Section 6.4.2, switch statement, says an implicit conversion to an integral type is required, which is not the case for for a scoped enum (one using the "class enum" syntax). This limitation was raised in the C++ Committee as an issue to be fixed, and the C++14 standard makes the code valid.
As a workaround, or to make the code conform to C++11, you can add casts to int for the enum variable and the enumerators.

  • Ukrainian language support for virtual keyboard

I'm very interested to be able to write in Ukrainian language on BlackBerry 10. However, the Ukrainian layout is missing. Thus, I created a new feature request which you can find here: https://www.blackberry.com/jira/browse/BBTEN-858.

No news from my side but there's an article on ITC.ua which states that Ukrainian mobile operator MTS announced Ukrainian language support for BlackBerry 7 and 10 to be delivered by this summer. Not sure, however, whether it will be included in all ROMs or in some custom MTS one. Here's this article: http://itc.ua/news/smartfonyi-blackberry-poluchat-podderzhku-ukrainskogo-yazyika/
