No support for USB 3 devices on MBA 2013

When I bought the first MacBook Air (mid-2013) I was disappointed to discover that none of my USB 3 devices (external HD and flash card readers) worked with it. Then even USB 2 devices stopped working. I brought it back to the Apple store and was given a new unit. USB 2 devices work with it, but not USB 3 ones. Now, reading this forum and other discussions made me realize that Apple, in a typical Applesque fashion, released a faulty product and will not admit that it created a problem for its gullible consumers – the USB 3 ports on Mac Book Air are underpowered and thus unable to support many USB 3 devices. It is likely that much later Apple will release a firmware update that addresses this issue, once the complaints from user reach a certain critical threshold. But until then we, the Apple suckers, must wait and hope.

Ive got 96 hard drives, of various brands. Ive had no less than 50 of them hooked to the Macbook Air.
If you have a western digital drive (likely), try a different Hard Drive.
There are no USB 3 issues with the Macbook Air.
Again, you didnt mention what USB3 device you have an issue with.
*That link you posted is a year old and the OP hooked the HD to several other Macs and it still didnt work..., meaning he had a faulty HD.
Other mentions were oddball OWC enclosures with power issues, not related to the Mac at all, and Verbatim memory sticks
So, the post you make a link to isnt at all relavent to any issue with the Macbook Air, current 2013 or 2012

  • Support for USB cameras in VBAI?

NI have a free driver that allows Vision 7.1 to access USB 2 cameras. Is there anything similar available for VBAI that would allow me to use an industrial USB 2.0 camera?

The free NI-IMAQ for USB Cameras driver is meant to support simple USB webcams that use DirectShow.  For machine vision or scientific imaging applications, most USB cameras don't have the performance or the features needed, like triggering.  The primary "customer" for the free driver has been universities that use webcams in labs.
With that said, there are a few industrial USB cameras out there that can be used for machine vision.  The problem is tha there is no industrial USB camera standard that covers them all (like there is with FireWire), so companies like National Instruments would have to provide and support different drivers and software tools for every indutrial USB camera.
A better solution is IEEE 1394 (or FireWire).  They offer the same performance as USB 2.0 cameras and are around the same price.  On top of that, almost every large industrial camera manufacture has a line of industrial FireWire cameras (including Sony, Basler, FLIR, and Cohu), and they all conform to the same DCAM (or IIDC) standard.  WIth this standard, our one driver, NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Cameras, works with all of them.
Vision Builder AI is designed to solve machine vision applications without programming, while USB cameras usually don't provide the triggering or advanced modes necessary for machine vision.  Because machine vision and USB cameras don't usually go together, we didn't provide support for USB cameras within Vision Builder AI.  My question to you, another_novice, is why would you like to use a USB camera with Vision Builder AI?  Are there particular features in a certain USB camera that you can't find in other cameras?  I would really like to know so we can get a better picture of how our customers are using our products.
    Thank you.

  • Support for ShopBlackBerry purchased devices?

I am on ATT and purchased a BBZ10 STL100-3 from shopblackberry.blackberry.com and am having problems. The support webpage located at: https://store.shopblackberry.com/DRHM/store?Action=DisplayContactFormPage&SiteID=bbrryus&Locale=en_U... says --------- (snip some) Technical Support Get expert phone support for your BlackBerry smartphone purchased through ShopBlackBerry. Call us at 1-866-957-0761* * Telephone numbers and hours of operation are subject to change. Any applicable local and national telephone rates may apply. Toll free support phone numbers may not be accessible by mobile phones in all countries. Please check with your carrier for availability and / or charge rates. --------- Sounds simple enough. However when calling at 5:20pm CST I spoke with a female named "Charlie" so stated: "I'm sorry sir. You must go through your provider for support. They will give us a "Validation" code so that we can help you and you won't be charged..." So which is it? Is the webpage wrong and I have must use ATT support for a Z10 I purchased via the BlackBerry website, or is the CSR incorrect? My problem: I've changed my security question and reset my password on the bbid.blackberry.com website but can't login via my Z10 anymore. The Z10 keeps saying "incorrect password" and the security question it asks is one that I've changed. Thanks. -- James

In regards to your comment that I would probably have to get support from my provider, I'm unsure why the service provider would be involved. BBID is a service, but a service provided by BlackBerry. Isn't the carrier (ATT) just be a transportation method for the BBID sign in data? IE if one takes the ATT sim out of the Z10 shouldn't one be able to still sign in one's device to a BBID via the wireless connectivity of the device? (I don't know BlackBerry's relationship or interdependence (or co-dependence) with carriers but I'm willing to learn.)

    1. I have successfully reset my BBID password and security question on the BlackBerry website. (I believe I was required to delete the BBID on BlackBerry's site to accomplish. As a side note I find it strange I have to sign in via a BBID just to back up my device via a USB cable to my Mac but that's another message.)
If the red part is indeed true (you say only that you "believe" you had to do it...I cannot therefore know if indeed it is accurate), then you must WIPE your device. It has been reported here that destruction and recreation of the BBID causes it to not be recognized when re-integrated to the device unless a device WIPE is done, even if it was recreated with the exact same credentials. My guess is that there is some sort of hidden "token" that is changed in the process, and that token no longer matches, and the only way to clear it from the device is a device WIPE.
Also, I didn't know that there is such an option to do that...the method I've known is via a link that came in the original BBID registration email, but it may have changed as I've never actually had to do what you are doing.

  • Skype Update Broke Support For USB Video Capture D...

We use video to USB adapters to integrate Skype into our classroom set ups and the most recent upgrade seems to have broken support for these types of devices. The only solution we've come up with so far is to downgrade to 6.1.0.129 and turn off auto updates (which is a band-aid at best). Any idea why Skype chose to do this and what might be the best way around the issue? The issue is with everything from cheap StarTech USB dongles all the way up to Black Magic Design's Intensity Shuttle. Our class capture cameras do not support USB unfortunately.

I believe at least starting with 6.2 the video support was being reworked in one way or another, possibly from the ground up.  It appears a lot of compatibility especially with virtual video devices/overlays was lost.  I don't believe that was intentional. The only thing you can do is continue to use 6.1 until a future release restores compatibility.

  • Snes emulator for mountain lion with support for usb controller dongle

    Hi,
I recently downloaded an snes emulator online and found that it does run the super nintendo game fine though it doesn't have support for the usb dongle for the controller. By any chance does anyone know a emular plug in or emulator for mountain lion that has this support for a usb joystick.

Thanks for the reply. Still curious if Apple did right by their customers as the support rep implied that they would. I can't confirm either because I discovered tonight that I can't upgrade to Mountain Lion yet until Mariner Software decides to make one of their products compatible with 10.8.  Starting to think I need to find an alternative to their product.

  • Support for Windows CE devices with StrongArm

Will there be support for the Windows CE devices with the StrongArm processor (like the Compaq iPaq) in Oracle Lite?
    Peter Bakker

Which version of Oracle Lite are you on ?
You must be talking about a Windows Mobile 5.0
device. If yes, then Oracle Lite 10.2.0.2.0 and later
should work on that.I appreciate your help Vino on my issue.
You're right, i meant a windows mobile 5.0 device. What i'm confused about is that, i have oracle lite 10g Release 2 installed on my machine however i don't find in the cabinet packages an installer for windows mobile 5.0 device. Should i use the cab file for SDK420? or there is a specific cab file for windows mobile 5.0?
One last question. Do we have two version of Oracle lite 10g Release 2 (one is 10.2.0.1.0 and the other is 10.2.0.2.0)?
Again thanks a lot Vino :)

  • EA6500 support for Wi-Fi devices on WPA (TKIP)

Although EA6500 states support for WPA devices it appears that some B devices (like HP Wi-Fi printer PSC 2510) are not supported. The lack of support seems due to the lack of WPA with TKIP encryption, only the newer EAS encryption appears to be available.

    pompekw,
You should consider cascading your WRT54G to a new router. That way you can keep your legacy devices.
I have legacy devices too. And that's what I do. If your WRT54G is broken, you can pick up a refurb wireless router that supports WEP and WPA TKIP and B/G for $20. And then you just cascade it to your new router. Use Lan-to-Lan cascade (or bridge mode instructions depending on whether or not the secondary router supports bridge mode). If your WRT54G still works, you can use it as the secondary router (which is what I do).

    USB-X45-4GB-E

I have tried a generic one. Copy works but wireshark capture to usb0 fails.
Could it be that switch supports only cisco specific usb drive.

  • Extended Support For Siebel 7.8 post June 2013

    Hello All,
Considering siebel 7.8 is retiring this year, what are the support options available post retirement. One of our client wants to replace siebel with another tool and have used very limited support in past from oracle. What do you think is the best solution during this transition phase of switching from Siebel to another tool.
Basically, I am looking for cost efficient and limited support options.
    Thanks in advance!

  • No BIOS support for USB? Cannot boot from USB HDD

    Hi,
I was attempting to install a couple of operating systems (Linux, Windows Vista CTPs) on my external hard disk (USB 2.0, Firewire). And I cannot seem to - because there does not seem to be any way to specify USB device support in your boot sequence. It seems the BIOS configuration is limited to these 5 basic icons (no text underneath to even let you know what they stand for) - which seem to stand for HDD, CD/DVD, network, etc, but no USB hard drives (I don't believe FDD counts)?
Windows Vista's installation for example complains that the BIOS does not support booting off my external hard disk - as does linux.
    Or am I missing something . . . ?
    Regards,
    -krish

    Hi Krish
As far as I know it is not possible to boot from external HDD. If you want to install more different operating systems you can do it directly on the notebook HDD or even install them as virtual machine. I use VMware Workstation and I have install two different operating systems there (W2K and Linux).

Places to find support of various sorts for Apple stuff:
    Apple Store - Genius Bar
Apple Support (complimentary for 90 days after purchase) - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
However, as I said, "The drivers for a third-party dock or hub would be supplied by the manufacturer of the dock or hub," so Apple support folks probably won't know about availability anyway.
