No sync between two computers since last update

running Mail 2.0.5 (746.2) / 10.4.3 (8F46)
Did in the past: synchronize/copy (actually used rsync) all my Library/Mail files between two machines (including preferences asf) and have the same settings and mails on both machines.
Since the latest update this no longer works. Instead, each time mail starts on the machine onto which I copied, it complains that something is corrupt and that it has to update all the indices. (I have >100,000 emails; therefore, this is slightly annoying.)
any advice on how to synchronize between two machines (without going through .mac which is not an option for me due to the slowness)?

The fact of the matter is that PSE is aimed at the casual/hobbyist user, and will always have some limitations because of that.  There are workarounds to "push the envelope", but they will always require constant vigilance and effort.
You can get some tips (and warnings) about storing the catalog on a network drive here:
http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Storing_the_catalog
To answer your immediate concern, you basically want to have one and only one copy of the catalog somewhere that's accessed by both computers.  That catalog should be listing photos that are stored in one and only one "master" image location.  Then you can use SyncToy to keep the images in sync to that master image location, and use Organizer to update its thumbnails whenever the original images are changed.  N.B.:  the Organizer's catalog does not support multiple concurrent access.

P.S.,  I've never used the sync to photoshop.com, so someone else will have to comment about that.

  • How to keep playlists in sync between two computers?

I have a MacBook Pro and a regular desktop Windows 7, and I have all of my music on both of them. However, I constantly keep adding new songs to different playlists all the time, and this makes it hard to keep everything in sync with both computers and my iPod because I usually sync from my Mac.
Right now I export the updated playlists on one of the computers and import it on the other, but it's quite the hassle just to keep some playlists in sync. I tried using home sharing, but it just keeps downloading duplicates everytime I try to import, I would've thought it was smarter by just adding the new songs but appearently it isn't.
So, anyways, is there any easy way for me to automatically keep playlists in sync between two computers?

I am indeed subscribed to iTunes Match.  Are you saying that with Match, it will sync my playlists?  I will have to check this when I get home.  That would really be a nice surprise!
I sync my iPod to iTunes on my Windows 7 box, but use iTunes on my Mac for synching my iPhone 6 and iPad 2.  Normally, I'd be modifying a playlist on the Win 7 box, adding or rearranging songs.  However, occasionally, I might download a song to the iPhone while out and about.  Then, when I'm back at the Mac, I'd do a sync and add that new song to one of the playlists.  Should Match then be keeping the playlists on the two machines in sync?
As for the library replication, I had to do that when I first signed up for Match.  I was WAY over the 25k song limit, so I made a copy of the library, and in that copy deleted enough songs to get me under the limit.  Also discovered scripting and did some really neat things with that tool.  Still have the option when I start iTunes to use the old library, just in case there's something there I need to copy to the smaller lib.

  • Question about syncing between two computers

I feel a bit silly, because I feel as though I should know this, but I'm not sure because it has never applied to me until now.
My main computer is a Vista machine, and everything is sync'd with that. However, I bought a MacBook last night (WOO-HOO!) to use as a secondary machine, and I'd like to get all of my contact and calendar info into that machine as well.
    I'm envisioning the following scenario:
    1. I will put at least one contact and at least one calendar event into Mac Mail and iCal in my new, empty MacBook...
    2. I will connect my iPhone to sync with the MacBook and iTunes will offer me the magic "merge" option.
    3. All of the information in my phone will be sync'd to my new MacBook, and I will have two computers and an iPhone all with the same info.
Are there any holes in my vision? Will this work?
    Thanks,
    -SB

    This should work as provided.
If something goes wrong with the sync process with your MacBook and this data is lost on your iPhone, you have your Vista machine with this data to recover from.
If you aren't already doing so, be sure to create a backup of this data on your Vista machine - contact information and calendar events - which should be done when syncing any device such as an iPhone with such important information stored on your computer.

  • Keychain syncing between two computers

I'm not sure where this post belongs as the issues seems to span different aspects of my computers. Originally I thought it was a mobileme issue but support was unable to help and over the last year I've tried many internet searches and asked many people, the latest of which is here
Basically, I'm trying to sync 2 computers and an iPhone with mobileme. I can sync 1 computer and the phone but never both computers and the phone. In fact the phone is always OK so I doubt that the problem is there. I've set up mobileme to sync various items but there are 2 issues that seem to relate to keychains being saved on only one or the other computers - never both:
iCal on computer 1 is totally blank no calendars or events are loaded from mobileme. Setting up the mobileme server is fine but NEVER allows the password to be saved - the password field is always blank after closing and opening iCal prefs. iCal on computer 2 works perfectly and has been set up in exactly the same way as iCal on computer 1.
I have 4 Mail accounts. Whenever I open Mail on computer 1 I need to reenter the passwords for Mail accounts a and b. Whenever I open Mail on computer 2 I need to reenter the passwords for Mail accounts c and d
Other than this sync between the 2 computers will collapse completely after a few minutes, hours or days and I will get Keychain Error message....
.... or sometimes a File Sync error relating to iDisk when I try to turn iDisk sync back on.
One or other computer will log out of mobileme and I will get a mobileme password error saying I've entered the wrong one. I then log back in which breaks the sync on the other computer. The longest I've had the computers syncing is a couple of days, but the keychain issues with Mail and iCal mentioned above are constant. If I get bored (as I often do) and just leave one of the computers out of mobileme sync for a while the 2 Mail accounts will ALWAYS need to have there passwords reentered. If the Save to my keychain checkbox is checked the error message will NEVER go away - the only way to get the Mail account to work for that session is to leave the checkbox unchecked. Quitting and restarting Mail will result in the passwords having to be reentered.
With both computers synced with mobileme I will get the error at some point and every time I get this error, I have to re-sync data with mobileme and restart iDisk sync.
I have deleted iCal prefs on both computers, deleted me.com keychains on both computers, repaired keychains on both computers, opened iSync and reset sync history on both computers, but nothing has done it yet.
Any help and suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Couple suggestions
    1. Disable Automatic Sync on both computers. So when you do connect it does not go into an auto sync right away and allows you to check all the proper tabs to ensure they are set correctly per computer.
When you connect iPhone and get a summary screen you should see advanced options below with a box called automatically sync, uncheck and apply.
    2. On one computer if you go to the Music tab when Iphone is connected it should be set to sync music. Which will be fine for the computer you want music to go to and from.
As far as when you connect to the second computer
The music tab when iPhone is connected should be unchecked and should not really sync with music at all.
You can keep automatically synced checked if you like and prefer. The un-checking just gives you more time to check areas before you do normal syncing.

  • Sync between two computers

May I "sync" my iWeb entries so that I may update iWeb on either my main machine (a MBP) and my mini?
And, if so - how? Many thanks.

As long as the domain file is under 2 GB there's a way to automatically sync the domain file on two computers as your work. That's to use DropBox, a free service up to 2 GB. Old Toad's Tutorial #20 describes how to set it up (for iPhoto but it would be the same for an iWeb domain file). As you work on a domain file with computer A the file will be updated on computer B if it's online or as soon as it goes online the next time.
As the tutorial warns *you can't have two people working with the same domain file at the same time*. But for one person with two computers it would work very nicely. You can have two people editing a single document like a text document at the same time but not with packages containing many files that get changed within.

  • Syncing between two computers

I have two laptops, one stays at home and one I travel with. I have my Itouch 2G synced with my home laptop and now I want to sync it with the one I travel with. The problem is, when I go to sync the applications on the travel laptop, it tells me all existing applications will be replaced with the one on this laptop. There are no apps on this laptop, I want to put them on there not remove them from the Itouch.
How do I resolve this issue?
PS. I've tried this before with a work laptop and it wiped out everything I had on my Itouch

Use the Transfer Purchases command to move applications between the computers.

  • Cross Sync between two computers has caused a problem

I have two macs set up under my ME acount. One older powermac G5 and a newer Macpro
Somehow or rather I have managed to have the settings from my older mac overwrite the settings in my newer mac I think through a sync process.
My systems settings have been copied from one to the other.
I run time machine and would like to recover all of my old settings.
Can anyone suggest which of the old files I need to restore?

  • Sync between two computers and iPhone

I am probably not the first to notice that but I am slightly annoyed that I cannot sync my phone with my home and work computers. As a result my work computer and iPhone is now completely depleted of all my contacts. The guys at O2 said that only one computer can sync to the phone.
Pretty poor show I must say. Apple could really have thought about something more user-friendly; i.e enable the phone to be a storage devise rather than a mere carrier of data. I don't think I would have bought the phone if I had known all its snags beforehand despite the fact that it has some great features.
Hope an upgrade will solve all these issues. I am sure it would make a lot of users happy.
    Oli

I think you meant to say "merge"
I am trying at the moment with fingers crossed.
One has Leopard the other Tiger. I hope it works.
Oh I turned on airplane mode and disconnected from the internet just to be sure sync doesn't get stuck.
Asked me to resolve 6 conflicts.. that's a good sign. It is taking a long time though. I hope it won't take so long every time I go from one computer to another. Otherwise it is easier to pass the files via iChat.
The file for address book is addressbook data in library/applicationsupport/address book
for iCal I make an export VCal file and then on the other computer delete the calendar and import the new one.
On the computer with Music I set it to manage manually.
OK I think I will have to do it like that because this took forever then it said it would have to modify 836 entries on my calendar for what was almost the same file.
The photo sync is annoying but I just turn off iPhoto when it asks to find my library (or you can make another program be the default program when you attach a camera and that program will come on then you can just quit it). I find the auto photo sync annoying as it takes so long and I would rather do that manually.

  • Can I use an Itouch to sync between two computers?

I want to sync Calendar data between my Ibook, which uses Entourage and my desktop G5, which uses Ical. Can I do that without having to buy a MobileMe accout?

The Touch has to be connected to a computer at least once to set it up. I remember being very disappointed when I got mine. It was delivered at work and I had to wait until I got home to set it up. All it would show on the screen was the indicator to plug it into a computer. I don't know if you have to register it with Apple, though. And, as far as registration goes, it's not like they're going to check to see if you put in your real name. Of course, this might cause some problem later if you needed to find your serial number from Apple.
I don't think you need to have an iTunes Store account. However, you won't be able to use YouTube without it.

  • Can one iTunes library be kept in sync between two computers?

    Hi,
Just got a new Powerbook to supplement my iMac G5. I'd like to maintain one iTunes library on both. Is this possible? I understand I can copy my current library from the iMac to the Powerbook. But is it possible to then keep them in sync? That is, if I buy a few songs from the ITMS while traveling with the Powerbook, is there an easy way to sync with the iMac when I get home such that both libraries have the same songs, playlists, etc? I'm guessing one approach would be to copy the entire library over, but I'm hoping there's a way to just copy the updates/additions. Any advice?
    Thanks!

  • Ical won't sync between two computers

I have an Imac at work and an Ibook at home. Items entered on the Imac will always appear on both calendars and sync properly. Items posted at home on my Ibook, will NOT appear on my Imac at work. I also sync my address book and Safari Book marks and those always work fine . What do I need to do so that the items entered on my Ibook at home will appear on my Imac at work?
    Thank you.

Be sure to try...MobileMe: How to reset sync data
As stated in that article: "If you reset the sync data, be sure you reset it from the computer that has the most up-to-date information on it. If at all possible, before performing these steps, you should back up your data."

  • Sync between two computers and iPhones?

We have 2 mac laptops, both running the latest OS. We also have 2 iPhones. How can we have the same calendar on all devices and have the ability to edit that calendar from any computer or iphone?

With a MobileMe account or a CALDAV server.
It cannot be done with a "local" calendar that way, it needs to be "live".

  • Syncopation Bug? Last Played "Time" between two computers

First all: I get NO response from Sonzea email "support", the creator of Syncopation. I've sent two emails over past four days.
    Now.. here's the issue:
I've successfully used Syncopation to keep two iTunes lib's in sync on two computers for a long time. It's always worked great. Hadn't used it for a while, but now when I use it the "time" is off by one hour between Sync software on the two computers.
This manifests itself in two ways:
1.) the "Last Played" time is different by exactly one hour when a sync is done. It is "less" by one hour on the computer being synced (the other being the "master"). After a sync it tells me I need to sync ALL 4023 tracks again because it sees the "Last Played" date different between the two. You can sync repeated and it reports that all EVERY TRACK needs updating- it never thinks it is synced.
2.) BUT, when I reverse the sync and use the OTHER computer/library as the master it tells me the two libs ARE IN SYNC - even when I see that the "Last Played" dates if different by exactly one hour!
I'm running the latest version's of Syncopation and Mac OSX.
Anyone other Syncopation users see this? Ideas? Comments?

I'll just update to mention that I just noticed that the "Remove Duplicates" script isn't actually removing all the duplicates. I'm down from 3-4 copies of everyting to just two, and now I need a way to get rid of this one extra duplicate. Anyone know of any other ways to do this?

  • Sync Mail between two computers

After Leopard upgrade, I switched from Entourage to Mail.app, so I'm new to it.
I use two Macs and POP accounts. How can I sync Mail.app between two computers in Leopard? The Sync Service of Smart Folders is not enough for me.
May I use a sync app like Folders Synchrnonizer?
    Thanks
    Stefano

Both my wife and I have multiple macs and work at home and on the road - we've tried all sorts, and there are 3 approaches that work:
    1) IMAP
I know you think this isn't the ideal solution for you, but it is unbelievably simple and rock solid once you get it working.
Set your POP mail addresses to forward all mail to your IMAP address (I use .mac which is brilliant, I don't know about Gmail).
Your mail is server based, so your laptop, desktop, iPhone, webmail from a PC etc. are all always in sync.
You will still get your mail from your old accounts.
You can set rules on any of your machines to filter your mail into folders according to which address they were originally sent to.
HOWEVER the mail you SEND will be FROM your IMAP address, so your clients / friends may get confused if you don't want them to use your IMAP address as your main address.
    2)
Leave POP mail on the server.
In Mail preferences, highlight your POP account and click on the "Advanced" tab.
Select "Remove mail from server" to a 1 day if you come home each night.
If you are away for longer, make it 1 week or Never.
This way, if you download mail on your Laptop, when you get home that evening, your desktop will download the same mail again, as it has been left on the server.
    It's sort of fake IMAP.
The downside is you can end up with a full mailbox at the server very quickly as you are now leaving messages on it, and you may have to empty the server yourself sometimes (in the same menu you just adjusted).
Also, if you are away from your laptop too long, you may download and later delete-from-the-server messages on your desktop, leaving your laptop out of date.
Use Mac Sync to keep your rules, mailboxes and preferences synced up.
This is the way it's designed to work, so it should work fine.
    3)
    Drag the Mail folder.
Assuming you're only using one Mac at any one time, you simply move the main mail folder to whichever machine is current.
    Quit Mail on both machines.
On your target mac, go to youruserfolder/Library and rename the "Mail" folder to something else like "Mail Old". This is just so you have a backup.
On your source mac, go to youruserfolder/Library and copy that entire folder (not just the mailboxes) either to a drive to transfer to your target mac, or straight to it if you have it networked.
When you start up mail you will find the messages, folders, mailboxes etc. are the same as they were on your source mac.
Now you use your target mac (say your laptop) for a while.
When you are going back to your original source mac (e.g. your desktop), you now repeat the process in the other direction, replacing your desktop's mail folder with your newer laptop's version.
It's really important you use one mac at a time and swap the folder each time you switch.
If you rename the previous version before you overwrite it, you know you have a backup if things get out of sync.
It works really well if you only take the laptop out occassionally, or if you use it exclusively for days at a time (i.e you go away) and you only need to do the transfer every so often.
Also, it helps if you don't have thousands of emails - if your Mail folder is under half a gig, you can do this quickly using a USB keyring or similar. Any bigger and the transfer can get a bit slow.
I use option 1, and felt it was worth changing my email address for.
My wife uses option 2 when she is using her laptop in the day and she can run her desktop each evening the download the mail left on the server.
But she sometimes gets trouble with her popmail server filling up (she gets lots of video and audio attachments) so if she's going away or not planning to use her desktop in the evenings, she reverts to option 3 and removes messages from the server "right away", updating her desktop's mail folder at the end of the week and just using her laptop until then.
    Good luck!

  • How do I sync the same library between two computers?

I have an iMac and a Macbook Air, and I am constantly buying music betwen the two computers, and my iPhone. I want to be able to sync up my iPhone on both computers, but it keeps telling me I have to resync my entire phone, which is just crazy. How can I sync up itunes? I have .mac to sync my contacts, mail, etc.

I have an iMac and a Macbook Air, and I am constantly buying music betwen the two computers
Constantly? The MacBook Air is brand new.
Even if you sync iTunes between two computers With something like this -> syncOtunes, you will still get this message if you sync to the other computer. The libraries may be have the same music but they are not the same library.
