No "sync ringtones" tab

I have just got an iphone 3g and desperately want to select my own ringtone. I have successfully created ringtone files, and they appear in the Ringtones section of my library in itunes. BUT I cannot drag and drop them onto my iphone. Nor do I have the Ringtones tab to sync between the two. I have checked ringtones in Preferences, but I still do not have the tab. I think maybe the latest version of itunes doesn't allow this....?
.....which still leaves me without any decent ringtones. I have looked at various apps to create ringtones, but will I face the same problem when I come to sync them?? How do I get around the no "sync ringtones" tab problem?
Thank you

For those of yous that have mac;
1.) pick the you song by highlighting it.
2.) click file.
3.) click get info.
4.) click options tab.
5.) check start time and stop time and put in the numbers where you would like the song to start and stop.
6.) click ok
7.) click advanced, on the very top of the tool bar.
8.) click create AAC version.
9.) drag the new shortened part of the song to the desktop.
10.) then drag the new shortened part of the song from itunes to the trash can.
11.) click remove.
12.) click keep file.
13.) go to the icon on the desk top and at the end of the name where it says .m4a erase the a and put in a r.
14.) then move the mouse and click on a blank part of the screen.
15.) click use .4mr
16.) it should then show up in your itunes.
17.) drag it to your iphone, on the side tool bar.
18.) then the ringtone tab should appear.

Yes, the file extension is M4R.  Does it matter where I save these files on my Macbook?  I then opened them in Itunes and played them.  I did find the Tones folder in Itunes but the Tones or Ringtones tab does not show up when I select Iphone (within Itunes).  When I open the Tones folder in the Library, it is empty.  Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Cannot add and Sync ringtones in Itunes

Hi, I have gotten a new 16GB Iphone and it works perfectly with Itunes 8.02.20 except the ringtones I added in itunes, it doesnt sync (or even show up in my Iphone Ringtones tab). I have tried many M4R but it still doesnt work. Those m4r shownin my LIBRARY -> RINGTONES but it just wont sync with my iphone (I already Ticked on the Sync all ringtones under my iphone).
I did hardreset and restore also the same. Any expert pls help. Really appreciate. Many thanks.

It sounds like you bough the song only, not the song and the ringtone.
Ringtones via itunes are available in the U.S. only.
In the U.S. to make a ringtone you:
Buy the song with a bell - 99 cents
Find the song in your library and click the bell
    This bring up the editor.
You edit the song to the portion you want.
Then click buy to purchase the ringtone - another 99 cents.
Then it shows up in ringtones and you can sync.
As I said, this method of creating ringtones is available in the U.S. only.
There are, however, many ways to make ringtones:

  • No "Ringtones" tab and can't drag & drop ringtones into iTunes

I have an iPhone4 running OS4.3, using iTunes 10.2 on a Windows Vista PC. I used an iPhone app to create custom ringtones, and have followed the app's instructions to save the ringtones to my PC and then copy into iTunes. Two problems:
    1) The instructions say to drag & drop the .m4r files into iTunes. I've seen this mentioned in other posts on this topic. When I try to do this, the files won't "drop". I see the "no" symbol (circle with line) when I hover over my music library.
    2) The instructions say to click on my iPhone in iTunes, and then on the "Ringtones" tab along the top of the screen. I don't have a Ringtones tab. There's also no reference to Ringtones in the left navigation pane.
    How do I correct this?
    Thanks

!!! JUST DOWNGRADE YOUR ITUNES VERSION, AND USE THE OLDER ONE - THAT'S ALL. SORRY FOR ALL-CAPITAL LETTERS AND EXCLAMATION MARKS, - IT IS JUST OUT OF EXCITEMENT, AFTER HOURS OF SEARCHING AND THINKING ABOUT A SOLUTION !!!
    Shalom all,
Our frustration and pain is over, for sure… With some help and hints from this forum I’ve found a precise solution to the above mentioned can’t-get-the-goddamned-ringtones-tab-to-appear-in-my-iTunes problem.
Now let me try and get up to the point:
The 10.5.2 version of iTune is worthless (at least, it’s 64-bit modification, which I’ve been using up to this point). By reading a few comments on your forum, I’ve quickly decided to try and downgrade to 10.4.1.10 version (seems to me, 64-bit), which can be downloaded from apple.com site with just a little extra-search.
By the way, I do have Windows 7 64-bit OS on my PC, and “Apple” warns that one MUST use 64-bit installation in my case…
One must uninstall previously installed 10.5.2 (if there used to be one, of course). In such a case, please, also uninstall a “Bonjour” program by “Apple” (don’t know what’s that, but you will not be able proceed any further with, as it was said in my case, higher version of “Bonjour” left behind).
After uninstalling those two abovementioned things, I have installed iTunes 10.4.1.10 , even without being asked for reboot by the end of the installation. But, alas, when I tried running iTunes, it failed with the complain about a “iTunes Library.itl” file (found in C:\Users\<My_User>\Music\iTunes). I’ve just renamed the file (could’ve been removed as well, of course) and restarted the iTunes. This time everything went smooth.
The rest of the story, I assume, you can imagine much better than me. Go to Edit->Preferences and tick “Ringtones”. After connecting the iPhone (well, probably one more iTunes restart will be required in this case, - not sure about that), we will get the “Ringtones” tab set also under the iPhone definition (see “DEVICES” in iTunes).
Next, create an .m4a file out of your favorite ringtone, move it to the Desktop, change the extension to a4r, add it back (drug-and-drop) to “Ringtones” tab at the iTunes LIBRARY. Then make some blessing, take a deep breath and… that’s pretty much done. One important thing not to forget before sync: click on your phone (under iTune’s DEVICES), and click on “Ringtones”, located right under the gorgeous :-) apple picture in the top middle of the iTunes window. Mark “Sync Ringtones” and “All Ringtones” (?) there, of course…
BTW, no need whatsoever to register your phone, - you can just postpone the registration...
Phew… Let’s hope I haven’t forget anything. Anyhow, the idea was to get rid of iTunes 10.5.2 as soon as possible, uninstall it together with “Bonjour” (say good bye to “Bonjour”  ), then install a good old iTunes 10.4.1.10, get over few problems and… The rest of the procedure - you know it by heart, by far better than me…
I’ve been struggling with the problem for less than a day (thanks to all of you, pals), but I can imagine there are still some poor pal chaps around…
Let us help them… Very unfortunately, English is not my mother tongue, as you can see… I wish, it would be different, but G-d decided other way… Please, (1) make some corrections and clarifications to this notes (I could've made it better, but in a crunch now, really), and also, (2) try spreading it among as many guys as possible… If you can pass this solution to “Apple” tech support, - it should be taken to consideration...
And I'll be waiting now for a generous job offer from that great company... :-)
Let me just wish you all a very Happy New Year...
Thank you all, dear friends, and do enjoy the best of your own FREE ringtones……
P.S.: iTunes 10.4.1 (64-bit) can be found here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427 , at the bottom of the page...

  • Ringtone tab is missing

Dear all, as mentioned in my previous post, the ringtone tab is missing from the top and I cannot sync my ringtones. I have included a screenshot this time. Advice please? THANK YOU! (:

Getting ringtones folder to show in iTunes - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2629494

  • I have no Ringtones Tab or Checkbox

So I have been researching how to make and import Ringtones.  Well, I have successfully done it but my ringtones are not synching to my phone.  I have gone into Preferences>to allow the Ringtones tab to appear in the panel, however I do not have one.  I have a Tones box to check, but that doesn't seem to repair the issue.  Why don't I have a Ringtones box, that will create a Ringtones tab?
I have an iPhone 4, iTunes 10 and am using a Mac to sync.  Thanks!

Here is my setup.  Windows 7 64bit (PC), Iphone 4S (64gb), Sprint Service.  I own all the Copytrans programs.
Hello...The Apple store was no help on this and I haven't been impressed with them the last few times I went there for help. Nice to know I spent a lot of money on Apple Care.   I did get a wonderful person that helped me on Apple Care the first time I called but again the last few times were not helpful.  The tech support people all need to be on the same page on how to do the different things with your apple product.
I spent hours trying to figure out how to get the stupid Ringtones folder to show up in itunes. I uninstalled itunes then reinstalled it but no luck.  All I get is a Tones Tab.   I did as you mentioned and I bought one ringtone.  Itunes still did not make the folder for me but my  Copytrans Manager did. http://www.copytrans.net/  Inside the folder was my one ringtone I bought.  I then dragged all my ringtones I downloaded from Zedge over to the ringtones folder and synced it up with CopyTrans Manager which put all the new ringtones on my phone.
After trying CopyTrans Manager and not having any luck with my iphone playing my ringtones on the phone I then dragged the files to the Library on Itunes which put the files in the Tones folder.  I tried to sync them with itunes but it would not work so I used Copytrans Manager to do this which put the ringtones on my iphone.  The only problem now is it doesn't matter what ringtone is set up for a contact it always plays the default Marimba ringtone and none of the other ones.
I think my itunes stopped working again as it will not sync anything I do now.  I back up everything to the icloud.  I like having a copy on the computer and on icloud.
When I select my device name at the top it shows:
    Summary / Info / Apps / Tones / Music / Movies / TV Shows / Books / Photos
On the PC I've gone into Itunes under Edit / Preferences and under sources I have these selected:
    Moves / TV Shows / Books / Apps/ Tones / Radio / Ping / Genius / Shared Libraries
Down below that Show Source Icons and Show List Checkboxes are checked
Parental Tab:  I have nothing disabled
    Under the Advanced Tab:
Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to Libary is checked
Now if I go to the Tones Tab under my Device Name and select Sync Tones / All Tones.  I get a message that says "Are you sure you want to synce tones?  All existing tones on the Iphone (Device Name) will be replaced with tones from your itunes libary."  Fine I select this.
When I do that I loose all my music that I used Copytrans manager to sync with.  My Libary has no music listed but my Device (Device Name) under the music tab shows all my music.  CopyTrans Manager is so much easier to work with than itunes.  I tried to drag all my music from my Device music tab to my libary on itunes but that didn't work.
So I press the sync button on the buttom of itunes and it says:
The iphone (Device Name) is synced with another itunes library.  Do you want to erase this iphone and sync this with itunes library?  An iphone can be synced with only one itunes library at a time.  Erasing and syncing replaces the contens of this iphone with the contents of this itunes libary.
Options:  Erase and Sync / Cancel  I chose cancel
I dont have a problem with erasing all my music and starting over.  I have all my store bought CD's that I can put back on itunes.  I just dont want everything else erased like my apps and photos.  For my photos I use CopyTrans Photo.  I understand my Pictures and music are not on itunes and this is why my libary on itunes and my iphone are different.  what a pain just trying to get a ringtones tab and getting everything synced up.
    Any help would be great.

  • Ringtones Not Listed Under "Sync Ringtones" List

I recently converted one of my MP3s to AAC, found it in Finder, renamed the file extension to .m4r, and reimported it into iTunes. It shows it under the Ringtones playlist and plays just fine. When I plug in my iPhone, however, under the Devices -> Brent's iPhone -> Ringtones tab, no ringtones are listed. I have it currently set to "All ringtones", but none are listed in the list below anyway, and none sync.
Why does my iTunes Ringtones list show one, but my Devices Ringtones list show none?

I also got this problem which I still can not solve.
Are playing time of ringtones you use less than 30 seconds? Have you changed to other computer for syncin? Did it work?

  • I already have ringtone tabs in my iTunes, and the songs that i already converted is also in the ringtone folder.but for some reasons, when i check in my iphone, the ringtone that i already make just don't appear.what do i do now? please someone help me

i already have the ringtone tab, and already move the ringtone that i make to the ringtone foleder.however, ican't find it in my iphone. what do i do now? someone please help me. thanks in advanced

Confirm the following before trying to sync the ringtone to your phone:
That it is really a ringtone: right-click on the file in iTunes, select Get Info, on the Summary tab it must say Kind: Ringtone
That the ringtone is 40 seconds or less in length
That you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings
That you have a checked the box next each of the ringtones you want to sync to your phone
That you checked "Sync Tones" on the Tones tab of your iTunes sync settings

  • Ringtone tab missing

    Hope u can help
My dad updated itunes after seeing that the ringtone tab is missing. The one when u click ur device.
We have tried to de-select, sync, re-select and sync in preferences but are still unable to get the tab.
    Please help
    Cheers

Not sure if this will solve any of your problems, but here's how I got my Ringtones to sync to my:
    iPhone 4S,
    MacBook Pro,
    iTunes 10.5:
Your music files have a specific format that allows iTunes to read them (usually .MP3)
Your Ringtones also have to have a specific format in order for iTunes to know what to do with them (.M4R)
Some of your ringtones might be in .MP3 format (or you might have clipped out a certain part of a song you like from an .MP3 file). In order for iTunes to recognize your Ringtone as a Ringtone file, it HAS to be in .M4R format. I don't know if you can just change the file type manually (i.e.: type in .M4R where .MP3 is). If so, then you can use a batch renamer program like "A Better Finder Rename" for Mac, or some other utility)).
If just manually retyping the format doesn't work, then I would use a program such as WonderShare's "Video Converter Pro" which will let you convert Audio and Video files to other formats.
As soon as I started the Video Converter Pro batch conversion from .MP3 to .M4R, Video Converter Pro started importing the new .M4R files into iTunes (10.5) and magically the "Ringtones" tab appeared on the left side of the iTunes window, as well as along the top with the other iTunes tabs such as Summary, Info, etc.
After that, just go to the Ringtones tab at the top and click whichever Sync button you like ("All" or "Selected Ringtones").
    Hope this helps,
    J.

  • Please help with downloading with syncing ringtones for my iphone.

I just bought my first iPhone and am so confused. I am having trouble making ringtones for my Iphone. I have some I have purchesed from itunes and some from Myxer.com. The ringtones are in my ringtone folder but won't sync to my phone. I have changed the format to ACC, but I don't now how to go any further than that. Can anyone help?

first of all you should not have changed the format to aac they must be in the ringtone format your bought them in (i assume from itunes?)
second, sync your iphone and under the ringtones tab, make sure the box is ticked to sync all ringtones. then sync iphone again. this should work.
but they must be in the m4r format or they wont work.
    hope this helps
by the way, you dont need to buy ringtones from itunes, google is your friend, they are ways to get free ringtones out of your music in itunes. one method is to use itunes its self! google is your friend

  • No Ringtones Tab

No ringtone tab. No problem Go to Edit Tab, Down to Preferences Tab , Put a Check mark under Ringtones. Download ringtone to desktop, doulbe click on ringtone on desktop, Itunes will open. You can now use your ringtone!

Hi Linda, I don't have a check box for ringtones in my preference options.  Have updates ok.  Iphone 4s.  Downloaded the free ringtone maker app from istore.  Created my 20sec tone, showed up in the app list, drag and dropped it to desktop and opened in itunes, but still no ringtones tab.  Sync complete, no difference. Do you have any ideas?

  • Why do I have to remove all music and videos to sync ringtones?

    Hi all,
When I check the "Sync Ringtones" checkbox under my iPhone, I get a message saying "Are you sure you want to sync ringtones? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPhone will be removed."
Whats the deal with that? Do I really have to remove all 16GB of music just to put a new ringtone on??
    Thanks

Inconvenient, yes, but it is one of the ways Apple keeps a lockdown on its Digital Rights Management. You can google and read, because Apple is in the forefront of the DRM wars right now -- but their iTunes system is pretty locked down. They really don't want you to just drag music from one place to another. They want it secured so you can't copy it for someone else and just distribute it. It means syncing back and forth.
An easier way to sync, though, is to just create a new Playlist called "IPhone Music". Drag to that folder any of the music or albums you want to sync. Then in the iTUnes music tab, only check the "IPhone Music" folder. Then disable the Manually Sync option.
Yup I get that, best way to be honest, I was just in a whiney mood before.
About the playlist, I'm doing exactly that. It's working fine, I now just need to source some good free ringtones.

  • Problem syncing ringtones

Why? Why can't I just sync my ringtone without erasing my music and video?

its only happen if you are using different iTunes or laptop etc.. you sure u are using the same itunes that has all your movies and tv shows etc....
