No sync -thinks it is a camera

Last night I changed my Lock Screen image to a drawing I had made.
As I had downloaded new apps and had also imported new photos on my MBP, I decided to sync this morning.
When I connected, both iTunes and iPhoto started up - iPhoto wanted to import one item, and that item was the jog I had chosen for the lock screen!
ITunes "sees" the iPad but doesn't sync or backup.
I tried it on our iMac also - same results.
I shutdown both the MBP and the iPad and rebooted. Same behavior.
I changed the lock screen photo. Same results, still seeing my drawing for import.
I let iPhoto import the photo and told it to delete it -yep, it is gone and now iPhoto dissent try to import anything, but iTunes still doesn't initiate sync.
Anything else I can try?

What computer did you use to first et up the iPad? If you told that machine not to just activate it but sync it, then that's the machine you need to sync to. Other computers will not be allowed to sync it up. You might need to reset the iPad completely and reactivate using your Mac of choice.

  • Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes... getting beyond P/Oed!!!

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

  • Multicam Sync - multiple files from each camera

I've been using FCPX for a while and it's multicam system just works.  However, I'm now working on a collaborative project where the NLE is Premiere Pro CC and I need to get lots of multicam sequences ready to edit.
There are five cameras and due to the length of the sequence there are between 5 and 9 files per camera as well as 4 full length audio tracks.
In FCPX I can set all clips from camera 1 to angle 1, camera 2 to angle 2 and so on.  When it syncs the clips everything from camera 1 is on the same track, all lined up.  Same for camera 2, 3, 4 etc.
In Premiere Pro it seems to be creating a new track for every clip from every camera and I'm ending up with 40+ tracks that need collapsing.
What am I missing?  How can I tell Premiere Pro that clips 1-5 all belong to a single camera and put them all on one track, likewise the clips for camera 2 and so on?
I looked through the documentation and lots of video tutorials on Youtube etc and no one seems to address it.

Thanks for your answer.  Extremely disappointed that Adobe can't get this simple stuff right.
CC isn't exactly living up to things very well today.  Much easier (and quicker) to the M/C in FCPX, maybe I can XML it across later.
Also, PP CC crashed on me 9 times in 2 hours (the dialog that says a serious error has occurred).  Not going well.  FCPX (and everything else) is rock solid, so it's not a hardware problem.
It's a shame.  There's been enough improvements in other things I'd actually begun to think a CC subscription may be worth it, but I think I'll stick with CS6 after all.

  • Hi, I had a clear up of contacts from my iphone but then when I synced the phone they all came back? how do I overwrite the sync with my updated contacts?

Hi, I had a clear up of contacts from my iphone but then when I synced the phone they all came back? how do I overwrite the sync with my updated contacts?

There may be several that were bought with your Apple ID. but somewhere in the updates there must be one associated with that other ID.
You can update one by one, until you find the one that requires the other Apple ID.

  • Designated folder for syncing photos from my DSLR camera to my iPod was moved. Where has it gone?

After installing iOS6, I noticed the folder I had designated for syncing photos from my DSLR camera to my iPod was moved. I'm under the assumption it was moved and not destroyed because the photos have remained on my iPod and I have since synced my device. Where has the folder gone?

    I'm gonna punt....
When you synch, is your DSLR connected to your computer?
HINT:  The camera probably shows up as a removeable disk, and your pictures are in a folder called "DCIM", or perhaps a subfolder of DCIM...

  • Took fotos with iPod touch, now laptop thinks iPod is a camera and won't sync with iTunes

I have been loading vinyls onto iTunes using EZ Vinyl Tape converter. I have sync'd OK until recently when problems encountered with EZ. However there are some tunes on laptop to sync. After using the iPod touch as a camera I now cannot sync.  The laptop thinks the iPod is a camera and does not initiate iTunes, instead the laptop gets a totally blank screen and I cannot do anything, not even switch it off. I have scanned laptop for bugs, viruses etc using norton. I am totally stuck now.

  • Itunes recognizes my ipod touch, but my computer still thinks it's a camera (and the drive only has pictures as a result; no music).

I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7, and wanted to transfer my music from my old laptop onto it. Itunes on my new laptop would only let me transfer purchases, and not music that I got from CDs. So, seeing as I didn't have any sort of storage device handy to back up my old itunes library onto, I decided to just transfer my music straight from my ipod touch to my new laptop. I had done this many times before both for myself and for friends, so I was familiar with the process. What you do is you make sure that hidden files can be viewed, and you select "manually manage music..etc" in itunes so your device shows up as its own drive in My Computer. Then you click on that and you should find your music folders. Unfortunately, because my computer recognizes my iPod touch as a digital camera, the folders only had my pictures, and none of my music. I tried to update the driver and change it to usbaapl, the Apple Mobile Device USB driver. However, my device manager keeps saying: "The best driver software is already installed" or something like that. The driver Windows automatically installs is MTP USB device. I've tried uninstalling it but as soon as I plug my ipod back in it just re-installs the wrong driver again. So, is there any fix to this problem or will I just have to go invest in a flash drive to transfer my music?

Startng wth the iPhone and iPod Touch,  Apple stopped supportng "disc mode" (and that's why your iPod Touch isn't "Aplle format" or "Windows format").  You access the musc, apps, calendars, etc. through iTunes, and you access the photos through the camera interface.
Windows is not "installing the wrong driver" you are just assuming that the device operates in a way that the newer devices no longer support.  There are some 3rd party aps that will allow you to sync music from your iPod to your PC, but I have never used them so I can't tell you how well they work.  I do seem to recall that XPlay2 was one of the names that supposedly supported doing that though...

  • My iPhoto opens, but doesn't detect or sync any of my iPod camera roll when I connect it to my laptop. How do i fix this?

So my friend lent me her apple cable to connect to my laptop since my one stopeed working a few weeks ago, and as I tried to sync my iPod touch camera roll to my iPhoto, iPhoto devices came up with "Apple Device" instead of my devices name. And as I clicked it, none of the photos of my camera roll appeared and I wasn't able to sync my photos.
I've tried to update the software on my macbook and restarted it as directed to, but none of the software updates actually worked or changed so I'm not sure why. Also I can't update my iPod software because I need to delete my photos off (after syncing them to iPhoto) in order to have enough space on my iPod for the update. Not to mention, to be able to update my iPod software, I need to update my iTunes software, which isn't working.
Please help! My technical knowledge is very lacking and I have little patience as of now ugh!
Thank you so much! It is much appreciated!

  • Touch thinks it is a camera and doesn't work - please help!!

I've looked at the other threads posted here but nothing seems to work. My Touch is still recognised in the Device Manager as a camera and the screen on the Touch itself still thinks that I need to connect the USB cable to my Touch, even though it is already connected. I've tried updating the drivers with the driver in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\ folder, but that doesn't work either. Any other tips please?

lol you guys must be macking around with those cracks on the Internet...try to put your iPod to recovery mode and it should be fine, follow this:
    - Make sure the phone/touch is on. The phone/touch must also be docked or plugged in to your USB cable.
    - Press and hold the Power and Home buttons on the phone until the screen shuts off.
    - Release the Power button immediately. Keep pressing the Home button.
    - You should see a number of horizontal lines invade the now-off screen, and it will be slightly disturbing. If you just see just flat blackness turn your phone back on and try again.
    - Your computer will recognize an "Apple Restore (DFU) Device". Open iTunes and it will complain about needing to restore.
    - Now just restore and everything will be back to normal.

  • IPhoto syncing videos taken on my camera

I am having trouble getting the videos that are taken on my camera to sync to my iPad. I checked on the help, and is says that maybe the video format needs to be changed. Anyone have any suggestions?

In iTunes there is an option in the Advanced Tab to Create iPad or Apple TV Version or videos. That works for some video formats to convert the video format to one supported by the iPad. Another is to uses a conversion program such as HandBrake (Mac).

  • Home sync thinks there are duplicate names when there are none

Home sync keeps complaining about some directories having the same name except for some capitalized letters which is complete bogus.
Example: I have a directory called "W3C Css geniales layout" and there is no other directory or file with the same (stupid ) name anywhere on my computer. The other example is "Moviessamlonlab". in this case there is another directory called "Movies-Tony". I suspect that homesync has problems with Spaces and hyphens in directory names. Renaming the directories helped. I still think this is a bug since any directory name that I can create (without the os complaining) is valid and should be considered valid by any other program! I have an intel core 2 duo macBook with OS X 10.4.10

    Hello there,
I'm having the same problem here,
    tried deleting ~/Library/Mirrors/*,
tried changing/resetting to "me":wheel the user/group of the files on the client AND on the server,
tried changing the permissions to 775,
tried a "touch" on every file
    tried a chflags -R nouchg
all of these amounts to the more files are touched on the server, the more conflicts occur.
The weird thing is that files ARE synchronized both ways correctly,
I just keep getting a Synchronization conflict on EVERY file (59014 files) at every background sync...
    Any help here ?

  • Os x thinks partition is a camera

After installing boot camp, I partitioned my external hd to have one partition as fat32 so I could have some more space, but now every time I open up iPhoto, the import photo screen comes up for that partition even though there aren't even pictures on it. How do I make it so the computer doesn't think the partition is a camera?
MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   also running windows xp

The difficulty is that it's formatted in FAT32, which is a format used by a lot of Camera Cards. I don't think you can avoid this problem without reformatting it. iPhoto does not treat disks formatted as Mac OS Extended in this way.
I'm curious as to why you think you'll get more space from formatting in FAT 32? You do realise that while the Mac will read and write to it, it's not at all uncommon for files to lose their suffixes and become apparent 'Unix Executables' when stored on FAT32 disks
