No 'system /administration /login manager" in Gnome

With previous installs I always had login manager.
so I tried to reinstall GDM and got this--
warning: directory permissions differ on var/run/gdm/
filesystem: 1775 package: 1777
warning: directory permissions differ on var/log/gdm/
filesystem: 1770 package: 755
I ran gdmsetup as root and got "command not found"
This is a new install and everything else is perfect.
Can someone kindly tell me how to solve this please?
Thanks

See the "where is the gdm setup gone" thread, and the wiki page about changes in gnome 2.28.

  • Cannot delete login item "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator"

We migrated a server (ldap and file serving) to some new machines, which have new names.  We've got all of the login and file sharing functionality working on the new machines, but wherever we have a mount of a share in the Login Items for a user, we can't get the old machine out of the Login Items.  It's not fatal, but it does make login take a lot longer because it has to fail first.
We can mount the share from the new server, and save THAT in a NEW Login Item just fine -- it's just that when you click on the old defunct one the minus sign is greyed out, and the mouseover says "You cannot change this item because it's managed by your system administrator."  There is a yellow triangle next to the item in the list.  Went into the user's ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist and it's not in the file.  The /Library/Preferences don't have anything that looks like a plist of the right name.
Where do I find it and how do I get rid of it?

In response to ManishBhatt94's post today, I may have some information that may be useful to you. I called Microsoft's 800-642-7676 and spoke with a technical representative with questions pertaining to my particular issue. I also have friend that has the
same issue with her computer running windows 8. A representative from my ISP told me how to go into 1)Tools, 2)Internet Options, 3)Connections, 4)LAN settings and uncheck the proxy settings box. However after restarting or shutting down my computer it reappears.
It will also reappears while I play games on Facebook not allowing me continue until I go back into the proxy settings in LAN and uncheck the box AGAIN and AGAIN. A local owner of a computer repair shop told my friend that it was a virus. After speaking with
Microsoft today I was told the same thing/it was more than likely a virus on my personal PC at home. As most people likely do,  I use wireless internet in my home on the affected computer. Solution; as suggested by Microsoft rep was to have the virus
professionally removed either by someone or to use their remote service for a fee of $149 which comes with several guarantees and does not require you to re-install software or documents. I hope that my response was of some help to you. I also kept trying
to fix this problem but wasted a lot of time. He also suggested to Google the proxy problem to see if ANYONE has any alternatives to fixing this problem!

  • Cannot find Login Screen in System- Administration

    Hi, all
I have gdm and gnome installed and want to change my gdm login screen theme, but I can't find Login Screen setting in System->Administration. Did I forget to install some packages?
    Many thanks.

No, since gnome 2.28 gdm doesn't have any GUI management tool ( as far as I know... )
( this is a bit strange to me too, since gdm is essentially a GUI being )
see the solution in the wiki!
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gnome_2.28_Changes
    section 3.11
    section 4.7
Thanks. I've seen that wiki and it seems if I want to modify gdm login screen, I have no choice but to downgrade gdm, since in Configuring gdm 2.28 section there's no workaround for modifying gdm login screen.

  • Gnome Login Manager??

I have installed gnome extras and cant find the package with Login Manager. How do i changed themes and edit it so i dont have to enter password each time i log on? I have gnome-system-tools installed. Is there another package that contains the Login manager?

The package is gdm. As for customizing, you may want to read this:

  • Login Management screen System.ArgumentNullException: Key cannot be null

    Hi,
We are following the below technical note to configure BAM:
Tutorial: Oracle BAM Plans to collect data from JMS bus
    (Tutorial_2_BAM_Administrator.doc)
Under the section "Creating a BAM user", when trying to create a new user, we noticed that there were two pre-existing entries for the user "aocdom1\aocrac" - one in lowercase and one in uppercase:
    aocdom1\aocrac
    AOCDOM1\AOCRAC
We did not find the "Delete" option in the Login Management screen. So we clicked on the edit option and deleted the username and full name for the user "aocrac" from the fields and saved the information. Now we are getting the below error whenever we enter into the Login Management screen:
    System.ArgumentNullException: Key cannot be null.
    Parameter name: key
    at System.Collections.Hashtable.ContainsKey(Object key)
    at Oracle.BAM.Administrator.ManageLogins.IsUnknownUser(SystemObject soUser, Hashtable& rhtUnknowns)
    at Oracle.BAM.Administrator.ManageLogins
The screen is accepting creation of new users though.
Please let us know how to resolve above issue.

  • Not able to login PIA - An error has occurred. You may attempt to sign in again. If your attempt fails, please contact your System Administrator

One of the user is getting the below error when the person is trying to login ELM system. what could be issue for the specific user and how do we resolve this issue?
"Not able to login PIA - An error has occurred. You may attempt to sign in again. If your attempt fails, please contact your System Administrator"

Its works for other users, its only happened for one specific user only?  I didn't check the APPSRV.LOG file?  what needs to be checked in APPSRV.LOG, I can ask my infra team to check, because I don't have app server access to check log file.

  • The GNOME login manager crashes upon booting

Every time I start up Arch, I get a window with a sad face in a computer saying that there was a problem and I have the option to log out which does nothing. The only way I am able to access my desktop is to open another terminal, manually log in, and run "startx." The login manager appeared one time but I have no clue how it happened. This is a fresh install of Arch that I installed yesterday. I am not familiar with troubleshooting so could you tell me what logs to post here? Here is a log file named :0.log which was located in the GDM log folder. This might say something about my issue.

  • Desktop gadgets are managed by system administrator

    Dear Windows Team,
Some time back I had turned off the gadgets from my desktop. Now when I am trying to show the gadgets again, while clicking on the gadgets, it comes out with a message "Desktop gadgets are managed by your system administrator". It is my
personal computer and no one else is the system administrator.
I have already tried out multiple solutions available for this query , but could not get the problem solved yet.
Can someone help me on this.

    Have a look at Perch
Perch - The really little content management system (CMS) - Perch
It requires a php/mysql database to run but the tables and set up are all automated through the Perch set up files - you just need a server that runs php/mysql. It works on the same principals as the one Ben suggested but its a lot cheaper for a one off site - however if you intend to build more CMS driven sites the one Ben suggested might be more financially viable in the long run.
The nice thing about Perch CMS is it fits in with your workflow unlike Wordpress/Joomla where you have to jump through hoops to change anything.
Plus I think you can take Perch for a spin before buying (or at least you could when I was exploring CMSs) - you can't with Power CMS. I never investigated Power CMS beacuse I would not buy something before trying it. It looks good but it might be a bit dated as it doesnt seem to be in continuous develoment. Perch is in a constant state of development and the guys are working to make it better on a daily basis.

  • Solution Manager: System Administration

    Hello all,
in Solution Manager -> dswp -> Operations Setup -> System Administration I've successfully created and monitored some servers; the problem is that I've accessed a server and in Session Components hit 'Complete'; since then, I can't remotly monitor that server and the only option I have is to 'Display session'. How can I activate system monitoring on that server again?
    Kind regards,
    Tudor Sofron

    Hi Tutor,
there is a possibility, but it's not documented for customers.
Please open a customer message on SV-SMG-OP, open the R/3 connection and provide a user to logon
You can mention my name, I could help the Suppport Consultant in the Global Support Center.
