No system sound after quitting Soundtrack Pro 1.1

Hello everyone,
I am using Soundtrack Pro 1.1 (UB) and I have noticed that, when I quit the program (normally way), my system sound disappeared, not even a "click" that I used to hear when I got a new mail... The only way (to me so far) to get back the system sound is to restart the machine... :..(
The Soundtrack Pro 1.1 works just fine, no problem with music editing... Just the system sound has gone to nowhere...!
Can someone suggest me something in order to fix this issue? And I thank you very much for your time and instructions.
Cheers,
James

Hi James,
I've been using Soundtrack Pro for a while and I suspect that this is a symptom of some issue in 10.4.6. I've had that happen on 10.4.6 even without Soundtrack Pro, and I never experienced this before 10.4.6 was installed on my machine.
Easy fix: Start Audio MIDI Setup (in Applications/Utilities) and change the sample rate of the audio device (e.g. change it from 48K to 44.1K then back to 48K) and it will start working again (at least that seems to fix it for me).
I hope that helps

  • Portege 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro

I'm a novice when it comes to laptops, so here is the problem: My 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro. Didn't have sound when I bought it with another operating system on, report says no sound device installed.
Does this mean I need to get a chip for the laptop or is it a driver I need & where can I find the part or the driver for this.
    Please help.

Usually if the sound driver was not installed you will get no sound but also a yellow exclamation mark should appear in the device manager.
If the sound card chip is damage I presume you will be not able to see the yellow exclamation belonging to the sound card in the device manager.
You bought this Portg as a second hand unit. Am I right?
So possibly the sound card is faulty.
The computer uses a ESS ES1978 (Maestro-2E) and ES1918 sound chip.
Check if you can find an XP sound driver in the internet.

  • What happened to all the cool sound effects from Soundtrack Pro?

I've recently had to upgrade my imac and macbook pro and my Final Cut Studio 7 isn't compatible with the newer verison Macs. How can I get access to the sound effects that came with the older garage bands and soundtrack pro applications? I've purchased Final Cut X and Logic Pro, but still seams as if the older verisons have better sound effects.

Have you a backup of your older system?
Then try to restore these folders from your backup to a folder on your Desktop and add all missing loops to your loop library in the corresponding folders:  You'll find them in the "Library" folder directly at the top level of all files on your Macintosh HD:
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro/
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects/
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Final Cut Pro Sound Effects/
After you restored the folders with the loops use the command "Reindex all Loops" in the "Loops" drop down menu in the Loop Library.

  • System Sounds After WebOS 1.1.0 Install

I noticed after installing the latest update that my system sounds were affected.  The "swoosh" sound (when closing cards) didn't work (although I was able to fix that by restarting) and the "bell" sound that occurs when receiving text messages has changed.  It sounds deeper and somewhat hollow.  All other sounds are unaffected.  Has anyone else experienced this?

  • No sound after using quicktime pro???

I converted a video and added it to itunes but it played with no sound. Please help i bet there is a stuipid mistake im making here im pretty mad that i just spent 30 dollars on quicktime pro only to have problems.

This is normal if your source file is a "muxed" audio/video data stream. Use an MPEG based converter for these type files.

  • Soundtrack Pro (randomly?) disables my Black-Magic card I use as Sound Card

I uprgraded to 5.1 FCP and now my woes begin. Before Sountrack worked seamelessly. But now, sometimes it will play back (be audible) through the video card I use as my sound card also - a Black-Magic Decklink, and sometimes it won't. It does play though the internal speaker.
But on a few occasions, with no apparent intervention on my part, the sound does come via the sound card.
I have gone to my general preference, I have gone to Sountrack Preferences. I have tried the manual, but the manual search, you know, doesn't ever list any searches that bear at the moment at hand.
Also, Soundtrack Pro disables the card. for instance, to hear iTunes through the card, I had to quit Soundtrack Pro. Of course Apple wants to charge me for "help" with this. For myself, no idea, very stymied.

I also have the intensity settings in the mac system preferences set to y, r-y, b-y video & analog RCA Audio.
    I am still stumped!

  • Premiere Pro crashes after quit - Mac OSX Lion

    Greetings,
    Symptoms:
I'm experiencing a consistent crash behavior after quiting Premiere Pro (ver 5.5.1 and 5.5.2). The complexity of the project doesn't seem to matter and once it crashes, i get the prompt indicating the app encountered a serious error and will try to save the project. I then get the usual crash report prompt to send to apple followed by the adobe crash report a few minutes later (must be why i see "dynamiclinkmanager" in top for a bit after PP crashes).
If I reopen PP, I'm prompted with a dialog box asking if I want the last project opened. If I say yes, I'm back to a crash before any assets load (unexpected serious error and the app will need to close) followed by the crash reports again for apple and adobe. Basically, i get one chance to make a project and it goes bad when closing the application.
I'm using an install from a DVD, but had also tried the web version. I was able to create a couple projects with the web version (trial) and then when I got the DVD, i believe i used that for updating/authenticating, etc - maybe that's where things went south (anyone else observe a similar pattern?).  I didn't think too much of mixing the DVD content with the web install, so the steps around how i mixed those two sources is somewhat fuzzy.
For reference, i'm pasting the crash report inline. To reproduce, I just had to open PP, click no when asked to open the last project that unexpectedly quit, and then just hit quit and got the crash. I didn't do anything other than accept the project defaults in order to test out hitting command-Q.
If I can provide futher info to help with a repro, please let me know.
Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance,
    Todd

Regarding en/disabling the mercury engine, is there another place to toggle that? I didn't think i had any other choice at this time with my card option (until i get a nvidia cuda card). FWIW, When creating a new project, the options in the drop down menu for "Video Rendering and Playback" is greyed out with "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" as the selected option.
I was also thinking of putting a fresh Lion install on another disk (bah, would prefer to not have to do this since I have other stuff all nice and set up on current OS install), but at this point I'm fine to take the hit and level the playing field w/ a fresh OS, image that for downstream testing if a fresh install is needed again, and then start installing things one at a time until something goes wrong.
It seems (i hope)  this error could be caused by something pretty basic as it is a complete showstopper. Unless somehow what I'm doing is super unique, there would be other folks out there dead in the water, to, but making waves.

  • Sound Soap equivalent in Soundtrack Pro 2?

Does anyone know if there is an equivalent to Bias Sound Soap in Soundtrack Pro 2? Sound Soap clears hum and etc. while preserving the good sound. It has an easy to use interface - particularly important for newbies like me.

I haven't seen SoundSoap but Soundtrack Pro 2.0 has a "Noise Reduction" feature.
    Here are the instructions :-
    Noise Reduction
Some audio files contain unwanted noise, making it difficult to hear the voices, music, or
other content of the file. Soundtrack Pro features two commands, Set Noise Print and
Reduce Noise, that you can use together to reduce noise in an audio file or selection.
    Set Noise Print
The Set Noise Print command lets you select part of an audio file containing only the
noise that you want to remove as a “noise print.” The noise print provides a signature of
the frequencies to reduce or remove from the file.
Setting the noise print before reducing noise is optional. If you do not set a noise print
before using the Reduce Noise command, Soundtrack Pro extracts a noise print from
the selected part of the audio file. If there is an existing noise print, it will be used, even
if it is from a different audio file, unless you set a new noise print.
To set part of an audio file as a noise print:
1 In the waveform display, select the part of the audio file containing only the noise you
    want to reduce.
2 Choose Process > Noise Reduction > Set Noise Print.
The selected noise is stored as a noise print.
    Reduce Noise
The Reduce Noise command uses the frequency content of the noise print to reduce
noise in the audio file or selection.
To reduce noise using the noise print:
1 In the waveform display, select the part of the audio file in which you want to reduce noise.
2 Choose Process > Noise Reduction > Reduce Noise.
The Reduce Noise dialog appears. In the Reduce Noise dialog, you can optionally set
the noise threshold and tone for noise reduction. You can also preview the noise
    reduction with the dialog open.
The noise threshold determines the level below which audio in the noise print is
considered to be noise. Lowering the threshold results in only very low signals being
reduced, while raising the threshold results in more high-level signals being reduced.
To set the threshold of the noise reduction:
m In the Reduce Noise dialog, drag the Noise Threshold slider left to lower the threshold,
or drag it right to raise the threshold. You can also type a value (in decibels) in the
    Noise Threshold field.
To set the amount of noise reduction:
m Drag the Reduction slider left to decrease the amount of noise reduction, or drag it
right to increase the amount of noise reduction.
To change the tone of the noise reduction:
m In the Reduce Noise dialog, drag the Tone Control slider left to preserve more
low-frequency content (bass), or drag it right to preserve high-frequency content
    (treble) during noise reduction.
You can preview noise reduction with the Reduce Noise dialog open and adjust the
threshold and tone of noise reduction. You can also hear the audio file or selection with
and without noise reduction, or hear only the noise to be removed.
To preview the file with noise reduction:
m Click the Play button in the lower part of the Reduce Noise dialog.
To set the preview volume level:
m Drag the Volume slider in the lower part of the Reduce Noise dialog left to lower the
volume or right to raise the volume.
To compare the file with and without noise reduction:
m Click the Bypass button to hear the file without noise reduction. Click the button again
to hear the file with noise reduction.
To hear only the noise to be removed:
m Select the Noise Only checkbox.
To use a noise reduction preset:
1 In the Reduce Noise dialog, click Show Presets.
    The Presets drawer appears.
2 In the Presets drawer, select a preset from either the Factory Presets or User Presets list.
    3 Click Apply.
    Is that simple enough ?
You can also set and add ambient noise.
    Ian.

  • How sensitive is Soundtrack Pro analyze

I send aiff file to Soundtrack Pro to check for clicks and pops. After the analyze the whole file gets red. Almost no green stripes. I just wonder what STP "thinks" click and pops are ? After the fix all the sound is strange actually something like clicking sounds. I am rather confused.

    Hi Folks,
For me 1.0.2 installed and is working fine. If you guys are really stuck, I'd suggest calling Apple's support line instead of just posting on these forums--as I've said before, if I downloaded an update that made my app stop working, I'd be on the phone to Apple ASAP. If you really want a fix, go to the source.
Have you folks even tried calling Apple? What did they have to say?
Here's some info that might be of interest:
In the past I ran into an issue where I inherited a laptop from a colleage that had some info about his apps that seemed to still be valid after I installed my own licenses. To resolve this issue, I ended up blasting the SystemID files and re-entering my own serial numbers, causing new System ID files to be created.
If you want to cause STP to re-set its System ID (it will ask you for a valid serial number again, the re-create the System ID), then I'd suggest archiving & deleting the System ID that STP is using (e.g. /LibraryApplication Support/ProApps/Final Cut Studio System ID) then restarting Soundtrack Pro--this should ask you to re-enter the serial number, and it will re-create the System ID file.
If you try this, please backup/archive any files you delete, make sure you have all your serial numbers handy so you can re-enter them, and be very careful--don't flame me if you do something dumb.
The only reason I mention this is because it kinda makes sense that it might be related, and on that crazy long thread about serial numbers, the one guy that actually provided info about what resolved his problem suggested that removing and re-creating his System ID actually resolved his issue.
    I hope this helps.

  • Help!  Can't Access the Effects Tab In Soundtrack Pro

I'm not sure what it was caused by, but recently when I open Soundtrack Pro, I recieve the following message:
    NSInvalidArgumentException
    *** -[NSKeyedUnarchiver initForReadingWithData:]: incomprehensible archive (0x62, 0x70, 0x6c, 0x69, 0x73, 0x74, 0x30, 0x30)
After booting, Soundtrack Pro seems to run perfectly fine except for the fact that I'm unable to select the "effects" option (neither from the overhead toolbar, nor from the inspector pane on the bottom left of the screen).
I found no results through immediate searches online.  Does anyone know what the issue may be and what I need to do to fix it?

This type of problem can be caused by using an add-on that is not compatible with Firefox 4. For details of how to troubleshoot that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

  • Should I get Logic Express if I have Soundtrack Pro?

    Hi,
I am new to Soundtrack Pro and was wondering if I should get Logic Express. I am looking for even more music and sound effects for video productions.
Does Logic Express offer more music and sound effects then Soundtrack Pro?
What is the major differences between Logic Express and Soundtrack Pro?
    Thanks.
    Andy

I think LE8 might be very useful tool indeed, if you are looking for more sound effects and creating your own music.
Both applications allow audio mixing, but with LE you can also use Software Instruments to create unique sounds or to compose entire songs. Plus, LE is more convenient for audio production, just like SP is more convenient for creating and editing soundtracks for movies/video.
Not sure about the effects plugins, but LE might have a wider collection of them.
I think it definitely won't be a waste of money to purchase LE, because it will extend your sound production capabilities.

  • Is my weedy graphics card causing problems in Soundtrack Pro?

Newcomer to Soundtrack Pro here, just getting to grips with what I can tell is a very powerful application, but I have a very basic question.
I am running a relatively old G5, still with its factory standard graphics card -- nVidia GeForce FX 5200 64MB VRAM -- yet somehow I have been able to get by, first in Final Cut Express for a couple of years and more recently for the last year in Final Cut Studio.
My latest project was very ambitious, at least for me: a 13-minute short film shot in DVCPro HD, for which I upgraded to Final Cut Studio. There was a steep learning curve, but I struggled on and got by with my 64MB VRAM. Then I really hit a wall when it came to the sound mix in Soundtrack Pro. I had more than 70 tracks and it was murder, dropping frames and stuttering. I bought a new external 500 GB hard drive to mix to and that improved things a little, but it was agonizingly slow with terrible audio drop frame playback problems and has resulted in a very uneven mix.
If I finally bite the bullet and invest in a better graphics card -- the 256MB GeForce 6800 Ultra was recommended to me, but they are expensive and hard to come by -- will that help the performance in Soundtrack Pro? I am not sure if it's that, or my inexperience in laying out such lot of tracks that is causing me this log jam. It has been frustrating, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Jim --
Thanks again for the note above. A month later, I have finally found some time to get back to my short film, trying to improve the mix in SoundtrackPro. I've been looking forward to this, because your advice seemed like a great idea. It seems obvious to me now that I should not have tried to mix my sound with my Final Cut Pro media on one drive and my STP file on another. However, I still can't get STP to work for me. Here is what I tried:
I copied all my FCP media (186 GB) from my my (232 GB) internal drive to my 500GB external drive, where I previously mixed the sound into a (62.5 MB) STP file. I then placed all my internal drive media in a new renamed folder, so STP would not get confused and go looking for it there. When I tried to open my STP file, I spent 20 minutes guiding it to find the migrated media in its new home on my 500GB external drive. I did this three times, and each time STP crashed just before it opened.
I don't have room on my internal drive to use STP to mix my FCP media there. I only have 41.GB available, which brings me back to my original problem of severe latency and dropping frames.
My last option, it seems to me, is to forget my old STP mix completely, start over on my external drive by opening my FCP source material there and use that to create a new STP file on the external drive, doing the entire mix all over from scratch. Do you think that could work, or is there some other basic workflow issue I am overlooking?
The good news is my short film has now been accepted into its first film festival -- I sent them a screener DVD made directly from FCP through Compressor. I guess I could lower my sights and use that for festival screening in a less-than-ideal mix. But that would be a shame because I put several hundred hours into Soundtrack Pro, but the levels are all over the place because I could not control the mix.
One thing I have learned: I have newfound respect for mixing and the sound editor's craft!

  • Lag when system sounds play on Retina MacBook Pro

I have a problem on my Retina Macbook Pro (Mid 2012, running on 10.9 Mavericks) that has persisted for quite some time.
Essentially the problem is that whenever an application plays a system sound, the application lags for a few seconds. However, this comes and goes.
For an example of what I mean, the lag happens when I make the following actions:
    - Deleting a file in Finder (Trash sound should play)
    - Using a 'find' prompt in an app like Chrome, Xcode, TextEdit, and entering a string that cannot be found. That is, the lag occurs when I type the character that causes no result to be found. (Beep should play)
    - Pressing 'delete' (backspace) in any app's text field with no text present (Beep should play)
    - If I go to System Preferences -> Sound, and select a new 'alert sound' in the Sound Effects tab, the lag occurs and the Console prints "System Preferences[52828]: Error 268435460 setting AlertSound"
While my computer is in 'problem' mode, every single app is guaranteed to lag when these events happen.
But as I said, the problem comes and goes. It first happened after I had to reinstall one day. I think I screwed something up with preferences, permissions and such, because it took a while for me to fix everything up. But I don't think I quite fixed everything, because this problem started to occur ever since then.
The problem will appear for days or weeks at a time and then disappear for weeks. Just now I'm posting this thread because it had actually gone away for months, and just reappeared today. Nothing that I have found can explicitly start or stop this problem from occurring, it's seemingly random.
Does anybody have any idea why this would occur, and what can be done to fix it other than a complete clean reinstall?
    Thanks!

Sorry wrong post to this thread.
    Now the right post.
No OS X can not use all 8GBs of RAM when the Windows Virtual Machine is running. As long as the Win VM is up and running it take all the RAM you allocated to it. So if you allocated 2GBs of RAM to the VM OS X can only use the other 6GBs. As for the CPUs OS X can use all the cores and or Virtual core as all current Intel CPUs show as double the physical number of cores. So if you have a Dual Core i5 it will look like you have 4 cores. It's done with HyperThreading.

  • Setting Up Surround Sound in Soundtrack Pro 3

Something very strange is happening. I have a surround sound set up using Moto828. When I listen to the channel allocation in Audio Midi Set up it sounds fine. However the same channels don't transfer over to Soundtrack Pro. I also assign them properly in the individual tracks and on the Submix.
What am I missing? If its an issue, I did upgrade the file from a 2.2 File that I was working on another system with.
Does anyone have any ideas of that it could be?
    Thanks!
    Blith

    Hey Blithe
I'm the same guy that answered over at the DP site... for surround and 828MkII use a STP 1-6 output setting on your submixes and plug you speakers into the back of the 828 with Soundtrack channels 1 & 2 => your 828 Main Outs. Analog output 1 => Center; 2 => LFE; 3 => Ls and output 4 => Rs
    Glad you got stereo working!
