No text in iDVD

I created a project in iMovie '11 (720p) and then share to media browser.  After completion I opened up iDVD, went to OneStep DVD From Movie under File.
After burning the DVD everything was fine except for the opening page.  The title (text) was missing.  Where did I go wrong?

It's best to use this workflow to avoid creating bad DVDs:
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Problem with RED LINE under text in iDVD 5?

Can anyone help me. When I complete an iDVD project, there is always a RED LINE under the text on the menu. When the DVD is burned and I play it on my DVD player, there will be this annoying RED LINE flashing underneath the text. Does anyone else have this problem? Please let me know if there is a setting that needs to be changed. Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you include some additional information on your setup, similar to what's in my profile? Also give your HD size and free space, exact version of the system and iDVD, the theme you're using and which text, title or button, that you're having the problem.

  • Modifying animated text in iDVD themes

In themes with animated text, such as "Pass Through" (a v6.0 theme), what text object is used to define the actual text that is animated? and if that text object is deleted, how can it be re-added? (presuming that the undo function cannot be used due to a save since its deletion)

Can't answer your question directly, but would suggest re-doing your iDVD project with your new knowledge. Perhaps play with your theme to get it how you want before importing the videos.

  • Unwanted text after iDVD burn

After burning a Slideshow in iDVD the text 'Drag photos or movies here' appears on the diagonal across all pictures in the slideshow when played on a DVD. This does not appear in the Preview phase on the computer before burning is commenced. How do I get rid of this unwanted tex?
    G4 iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    John,
Under iDVD General Preferences item 'Show Drop Zones' had been enabled, hence the text was superimposed on the selected picture. Once 'unticked' the text disappeared.
Thanks! That's something I had missed in the past because I had always added a background photo. Unchecking that box and using a theme like 'Full Frame' gives a nice gray background for those who want a simple DVD menu.

  • IDVD5, "The application iDVD could not be opened because the required ha."

First post in these subject forums. I am posting the same text in iDVD and iMovieHD which were from iLife'05, but I won't post there.
I loaded iLife'05 and also managed to get iDVD5 loaded although the packaging indicated that I needed to have a 733mhz G4 or faster processor and I have a Prismo Powerbook, 500 mhz and it was successful or maybe not.
Then I opened iDVD, I got this Error message..."The application iDVD could not be opened because the required hardware could not be found"...which makes sense as I have an external Lacie (CD-R,-RW, DVD-R,-RAM,-RW,R,+RW,R DL) burner that I bought about a year ago that my wife also uses on her G4 tower.......... and I did not have it connected. So I connected it and when I opened iDVD again and it still reads: "The application iDVD could not be opened because the required hardware could not be found." Shut down and reboot, no difference.
This probably does not have any bearing on the issue but in the System Profiler for "Disk Burning" there is a parameter "Burn Support" which is "Yes (Unsupported)", should this be "Yes (supported)"?
Question #1: Does iDVD5 only work with an Apple "superdrive" or does it work with other third party "DVD burners" ?
So I used iMovieHD from iLife'05 to create a project of an old family vacation (from an old 8mm Sony Handycam) and wanted to create a DVD, for archive reasons and to view on TV with a DVD player, but I could not do anything because of different errors now in iMovieHD.
File > Share...(a window opens and I choose iDVD and then click the "share" button) and this error comes up:
The movie could not be sent to iDVD, because of an unknown error.
"Please make sure that iDVD is properly installed, that your project disk has write permission, and that you have enough disk space. (Error 0)"
Next I tried: File > Burn Project to Disc......and this error comes up.
    No Disc Burning Drive Found
"If you have an apple-supported disc burner, please check your connections and try again."
The project file is 5.89GB and I have 57.97GB free on the hard drive so I don't think that space on the hard drive is an issue.
Question #2: Is the issue of not being able to create a DVD from iMovieHD related to the iDVD issue although the error messages in iMovieHD and iDVD are different?
Question #3: How are Video DVD's from the Hollywood Studios able to make DVD's longer than 2 hours?
Thanks all for your help in advance. John

    Klaus1, thank you.
I will verify again to make sure that I have the correct driver installed for the LaCie drive and I know positively it was connected via firewire.
That being said, after reading a lot of postings on the web, I am getting the impression that these iLife05 applications need a native Apple superdrive on order to burn a DVD. I do not have any other third party apps loaded on it yet it, but I will load some that can burn to a DVD. If I am successful in getting the non-Apple apps to burn a DVD with the LaCie, I will try again with iDVD5 and if I still can't get iDVD to do it, then maybe my assumption would be valid.
    Thanks again!

  • Blurry DVD's burned in iDVD

All my iDVD's turn out blurry. Does anyone have a remedy for this?
    *My Movie:*
An animation made in individual frames in Photoshop CS3.
    I started in Photoshop using the video preset "HDV/HDTV 720p 29.97" 1280x720.
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels
I imported the the final frames as an "Image Sequence" into QuickTime Pro.
I exported the animation at 16:9 using an the "Animation" Codec at the highest quality on all settings.
The final video is a .mov and it is 4 min long.
The video looks great if I play it through QuickTime.
It looks awful if I make a DVD of it (especially the text)
    *My iDVD Settings:*
    Video Mode: NTSC
    Encoding: Professional Quality
    DVD Type: Single-Layer(SL)- 4.2 GB
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    *My Computer:*
Brand new imac. Latest updated version of iDVD.
    What am I doing wrong?
Any help on how to make a sharp looking DVD would be very much appreciated!

    Hi
    My guess.
You are using. Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie. (iMovie will render)
    Result
    • Severly pixelated DVD movie
    • Original iMovie project is HARMED
    Medicine
    • Re-import Your photos and re-edit Your movie (SORRY I have no better tasting medicine)
    • CLOSE iMovie
    • Open iDVD and start a new project
    • Import Your iMovie project
    • iDVD - WILL NOW DO THE RENDERING and so much better
*More to read about iDVD quality.*
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 8 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on:
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS: They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD08
    Pro Quality (only in iDVD08)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD08
    2. Project info: Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD08.
    Region codes:
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes:
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Chapter markers causing iDVD encoding error

    TIP:
I discovered that the text used for a chapter marker in FCE can cause the DVD encoding in iDVD to fail. I kept getting encoding errors at the end and tried multiple fixes without success.
The solution was to remove the apostrophe that was inserted into one of the chapter marker names. The encoding worked at the next attempt.
Moral of the story - change the text in iDVD and not in FCE (or at least be careful in FCE).
    Cheers!
    David

    Peter,
    Welcome to the iDVD forum!
Make sure all your iMovies have sound tracks.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301876
And I'd try creating a new user and see if that user can successfully burn the project. You will need to move the project and assets to a public folder.
Make sure you have 20GB free on your startup drive.

  • IDVD and PDF and readable letter types

    Hi,
Am working on a iDVD project.
I have a MS Word text in a pdf pulled into iDVD via iPhoto.
But text in iDVD gives poor reading results, the text shows fuzzy.
Futura 14, I have been trying with some other fonts, but still poor results
Anybody any experience with lettertypes and reading on iDVD ?
    Any tips ?
    Thanks
    Tom

DVDs are low resolution devices - only about 640x480 pixels for NTSC.
Don't expect much ability to 'hold fine detail'.
See http://homepage.mac.com/profpixel/texttest.html for an experiment I conducted a while ago.

  • How to add audiotracks so they can be selected by the viewer?

I am using iMovies 11. Its really easy to use but i still got a question about audio.
My goal is, to allow viewers to switch between the original recorded audio, a music track and if they want, a overlay of both. If i got it right, there must be three seperate audiotracks. I tried it, but iMovies always "only" creates the overlay of the inserted audios. Is there a way to keep them seperate and then, if exportet to, lets say MP4 format, let the viewer choose between them?
    Thanks.

    Hi
I doubt that even FinalCut Pro-X helps and iDVD as well.
Only way around this is a DVD space consuming solution.
    • Each language on it's own video
resulting in a four language version take x4 space or will have to keep in to a quarter of time.
iDVD - Do not care about Gbs at all - Only on Duration
Duration = Movie time PLUS Menu time (can take 15 minutes or even more from movie time)
    a SL-DVD can take
    • 60 minutes - on Best Performances
    • 120 min - on Professional Quality and on High Quality (BUT KEEP TO Pro Quality as result wil be so much better)
    and about x2 on DL-DVDs
Resulting in a 4  movie DVD
    • SL-DVD about 29 min max per movie
    • DL-DVD about 59 min max per movie
and if more languages = less time for each movie.
BTW - this is the same method applied if one want's texted versions - iDVD can not handle that either. Only DVD Studio Pro could do things like this but it can not be bought new any more and the learning curve to use these functions are far from lean. Steep would be a  mild way to describe it.

  • IDVD 08 quits when editing text

When I use the dropdown text menu to change the font, size, etc. of the DVD title in the
opening theme/menu, the app quits. I am using an iDVD 05 theme. I usually do not
use themes but I found one that suits the project and now...no joy.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm wondering if you might have a duplicate font issue.
try going into Macintosh HD >Applications > Font Book, then look for
fonts that have a black dot beside them. Highlight these fonts, then from the menu bar select > Edit > Resolve Duplicates to turn these fonts off. Hope this helps but if not come on back.

  • Adding text pages in iDVD

Is there any other way to burn text pages in iDVD 5, than to import them in .pdf or other picture formats ?
Wouldn't it be easier to simply type or paste text on a blank page ?
    Thank you for your help.
    Liberty

The only way would be as you've already mentioned or select a text only page if one is available. There's no way to add text to a blank page in the iPhoto Book.

  • IDVD 7 Poor text quality

    Hello!
I am trying to use iDVD 7 to create a photo slideshow but my text is showing up terribly after I burn the DVD. Even the automated title text is poor quality and pixelated. I was originally trying this on iMovie but I was getting the same problem so I switched to iDVD and fixed some of the other problems I was having, but my text is still terrible. It's not quite unreadable but it is very unsightly. I would appreciate any input, especially if it doesn't require purchasing more software, which I don't have the authority to do here at my work. Please help! Thanks!
    Dwayne

I think we're not understanding one another. At first I had used photoshop to add text and then added them to iDVD. But those were coming out terribly and so I learned that you could have iDVD automatically insert notes which you input in iDVD or the names of the photographs overtop the images. This functionality is accesed either in the window wherein you can add or delete images from the slideshow, in the Settings menu, or under iDVD/Preferences/Slideshow. Its called "Show Titles and Comments." So I went back into photoshop, got rid of the text I had added and then turned on this feature. So now iDVD automatically places a grey rounded rectangle near the bottom of my photos with the name of the image file. That is the text that is giving me trouble, and the text that I can't seem to adjust.
Thanks again for your guys' help. I really, really appreciate your time and effort! I hope this description gives you a better idea of my problem.

  • Adding text to my magic idvd

I want to add some text to my idvd that is a word document and don't know how to add it to the magic idvd. I've tried dragging it and it won't work. I'd like to add some word files to the piece but can't seem to figure it out. Seems like it should be straightforward but I'm having trouble. Any ideas?

You can't add text - other than in menus. You could convert the text into images and create a slideshow of those images.

  • IDVD 08 Change text in scene selection sub menu

Created a project in iMovie08 (prolly for the last time, switching to HD), exported to quicktime, imported to garage band, chaptered and added audio in garage band, shared to iDVD, iDVD created Scene Selection sub menu (phew.....thats intuative). When you go to the sub menu, it says "Revolution". How do you change that text to something that relates to the project instead of the style of the tool???

I seem to be the guru for this issue.
While you're on that menu, expand the theme and click on the different menu types. Then try to change the text.
