  • After lastes update i can not text from yahoo (SMS) i can see someone has sent on & i can not view

I use Yahoo to send text messages. After logging into yahoo mail, on the right side of compose message is a drop down message with three options Email, Instance message or SMS (text). When I select SMS it starts like it is going to open the text box and nothing happens. This started on 1/13/12 after the most recent update of firefox.

    Hi,
In Yahoo, please try toggling the '''Options''' > '''Messenger Options''' > '''General''' between '''Small Window''' and '''Tab'''. This setting affects the Instant Message as well as SMS. If Tab is already selected, it'll open on the right of the last tab. On different days you may have to change the options and sometimes also do a '''Ctrl''' + '''F5''' refresh, but one or the other of the options seem to work alternatively.

  • I downgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7, do I have to reinstall firefox? Text in Yahoo email and Craigslist getting smaller and smaller automatically.

I recently purchased a new laptop which came with Windows 8 (appears you can't find a new one with Windows 7 any more). Reinstalled the latest version of Firefox from the official Mozilla download site. Gave the laptop to my wife and she HATED Windows 8. So I purchased a license of Windows 7 and had Fry's downgrade my Windows 8 laptop to Windows 7. All going well for my wife except her Yahoo email and Craigslist adds get continually smaller and smaller. Did the CTL + trick and reset, but was wonder if I need to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. My thinking is that the Firefox configuration may think it's still on a Windows 8 machine. Would that eliminate the continual need to CTL+ every time the text gets smaller?

[[Unistall Firefox from your computer]] During the unistall process if you want to remove your Firefox user data and settings, put a check mark in the box that says Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations. If you select this option, Firefox will not preserve your bookmarks, saved passwords, and other data if it is installed again.

  • Blocking an International Number and a Yahoo text message number ?

Is there anyway to block a number from the UK and a number through which I'm getting texts through yahoo ? Edit: I've tried blocking them and the either one is too long or the other is too short due to the 10-digit rule.

There is nothing more annoying than being contacted by someone you want to have no contact with. With that being said, you do have the option to block certain numbers and email addresses from contacting you on your mobile device. However, call blocking is limited by:
Incoming call and message blocking is not available on International numbers.
Limited to five 10-digit phone numbers only.
Verizon Wireless Financial Services Call Center or collection agency numbers cannot be entered or blocked.
Caller ID Block, where not recognized, may not be blocked.
Call Blocking should not be provided to suspended accounts.
The Call Blocking feature only blocks inbound voice calls and incoming messages from a number on the block list.
All blocked individuals receive the blocked Picture/Video message in their inbox, including the subject line. However they will not be able to view content body (text and multi-media items).
International numbers may not be added.
Call Blocking cannot be added to past due accounts.
Exactly what do you mean by  "a number through which I'm getting texts through yahoo"?
Are you receiving emails from an unsolicited person? If this is the case, you can in fact block e-mail addresses.
We do offer Internet Spam Blocking using Spam Controls with options to block all Internet spam, email spam, or spam from specific email addresses.
You can  reply to the sender with a request to stop sending messages.
You can  register at https://text.vzw.com/customer_site/jsp/messaging_lo.jsp and use the > Preferences > Text Blocking and select from options to block all Internet, all email, specific domains, specific email addresses

  • Yahoo's sign-in seal won't display in Firefox but will in I.E.

My Yahoo sign-in seal worked fine 'til this morning. It'll change the color but won't display the same or new text. Yahoo tech said it's a Firefox problem because it works in Internet Explorer. He dbl-checked that I wasn't on a phishing site.
    Any ideas to correct this?

  • Large spacing between text

I have large spacing between texts in plenty of programs in my Mac. It will show up in certain sites in Safari, Opera, and Firefox. Also in ITunes, Text edit, yahoo messenger, those are the only ones I've noticed. The spacing is only between lines of text and the spaces in between can be almost 2 inches big. I noticed too that in yahoo messenger and in text edit the font will be in 10 pt, but the cursor will be 72 pt big, but the text typed remains at 10 pt.
I do recall a time before I updated to Tiger that I deleted some fonts or maybe a plug-in. I'm not sure if this is a missing plug-in issue or a font issue. I've tried fixing the font settings in each of the softwares/browsers mentioned above and it didn't make a difference. Please help!! It's incredibly annoying and still haven't found a solution to this problem.

Thank you!! I went through Font Book and I didn't have duplicates for Courier in there, but I do have Suite Case and noticed that I had tons of duplicates and damaged fonts. I haven't gone through each damaged font yet, but I did quit suitcase and the problem was fixed. I decided to get rid of Suitcase anyways, because I don't like the software. Thank you so much for helping me with this problem. It's been such a nuisance for several months now.

  • My OVI Mail locked by Yahoo :@

    Hi,
I have been using an OVI mail for my small business since a year or so with small but bearable problems, My business is not that old that's why I defined a very recent Date of Birth when signing up for that account. But when OVI mail got powered by Yahoo, they locked my account assuming that it's a child's account. I can access it from Outlook though but cannot from the web. Below is the text from Yahoo:
"Please get your mom or dad!
Note for Parents and Legal Guardians:This account is locked due to the birth date that was entered at registration or the age given on one of the account's Public Profiles.
In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, Yahoo! must recognize all accounts with a birth date that indicates the user is a child, and we must receive parental consent before allowing such accounts to be opened and used. This account was not created with parental consent.
To create a new Yahoo! ID for your child, we need to collect certain personal information about him or her. We require your consent for the collection, use, and disclosure of this information. You can give this consent by setting up a Yahoo! Family Account.
If you're setting up a Family Account for the first time, we'll need a major credit card for age verification. You will not be charged!
If you are (MY EMAIL [email protected]'s parent, and would like to help your child create a new Yahoo! ID:
Create a Family Account for your child and add yourself as the parent.
Please read our Yahoo! Privacy Policy to learn more about how we treat information about your child, and our Online Safety Tips for keeping your child safe.
Hi (MY EMAIL)@ovi.com,You need your parent or guardian's permission to use Yahoo!. Please find your mom or dad and show them this screen.
    Parents not there right now?
Check out the cool stuff at Yahoo! Kids.
If you're an adult, you or someone in your family may have used a child's birth date when signing up for Yahoo!. For security reasons, it is Yahoo!'s policy not to alter the birth date listed in our users' account information. If you would like to create a new account with the correct birth date, please feel free to do so."
Can someone kindly explain me W.T.F is that? Hundreds of my clients have this Email address and I don't wanna create a new ID. I badly need help. Is creating a new ID the only option? If so, then I have to say goodbye to OVI and Yahoo mail.

@mysterious1 - OK, thanks for the update.  I'm going to ask around to see if we can fix this going forward, for you and others.  One other question--was 1/1/2000 the exact date of birth you chose when you setup the account?  Partially, I'm just curious.
Just FYI - New Ovi accounts can't be created with a date of birth indicating you are < 13 years old. But it seems like we could handle existing accounts with such a date of birth better.

  • New MBP, and am having memory trouble errors with MS Word 2004

    Hi,
I know this has been talked about before, but I'm not sure where to post this question. I have a new MBP, with a full version of Word (no previous trial software installed). I have been trying to copy and past basic text files from Yahoo mail, to create a book of emails of sorts. My file size has been approaching my memory capacity (basic setup). Does it not create a swap file and let you keep going if you approach the limits of the onboard memory? I understand it will run a bit slower, but I'm only moving text files and nothing else. Why the proverbial memory/disk full error messages? Does it have anything to do with the software being non universal code?
Do I need to get rid of temporary files, as Im copying and pasting alot? If so, how?
Anyone have the same trouble, and have a clear solution? I could also swear my MPB is running alot slower with Word than I would have expected.
Any help you can give me would b appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I’ll try to answer your questions briefly without going into too much detail. First of all, I think the error message you are seeing is generated by MS Word and not your operating system. That particular error, and other similar ones, are quite common in Word in particular situations and are the result of a known bug.
As far as I know, there is no fix, but there are several work-arounds. The bug has to do with the number of temporary files that get created when working with large Word files. As you might guess, the larger your file, the larger the temp files, and they will quickly fill up your existing RAM, which then causes the error that generates the message. You have to delete the temp files---you can do that by saving and closing your file, then restart it. There are some scripts you can run, but that is beyond what I want to get into here (and usually is not necessary).
The other problem is that by copying and pasting text from Yahoo Mail, you are not pasting simple text---you are pasting all the HTML code, formatting, and everything else that is contained in that text. And Word saves it all, then adds its own formatting and other code---leading to corrupt files sooner or later.
And then, to make it all worse, if your file is as large as you say it is (close to system memory in size), that is one huge Word file, and Word does not handle really large files very well, especially Word 2004, but all versions of Word, Windows versions included, have trouble with large files.
Word does in fact run slowly on even the newest MacBook Pros because Word is not yet compiled for the Intel Macs and does not run natively as a universal binary but runs under Rosetta, which translates Word to run on Apple computers running Intel CPUs. If you are working with small files, it isn’t too bad, but big files will slow it down to almost a crawl at times, or it will even stop responding for several seconds between each command.
You can work around these problems by breaking your file into much smaller ones, save often (and close the file once in while), and save as a text file, rather than as a doc file.
An alternative is to use another word processor or text editor to save your copied text---there are many that will work as well as or better than Word for what you want to do. Pages is a good alternative----I have to collaborate on Word files every day, and I prefer to work on my MacBook Pro (although I also use Windows-based computers about as frequently, too), and except for the most complex Word files with tables, charts, and pictures, Pages works very well, and you can save the file as a Word document, too, if you need to.
Hope that answers some of your questions----and always remember….I could be wrong.

  • IE 8 cropping one pixel of left side of Flash

I have a mysterious problem with Flash in Internet Explorer 8.
We have previously been using the code listed below to center Flash campaign sites on the page. The page did not have any doctype declared (not pretty, I know), but it worked fine across all browsers...
Then came IE 8. Suddenly 1px of the left side of the Flash/SWF is cropped of. I found that adding a doctype to the page fixed the problem, but that caused the content to no longer center vertically (in some browsers).
If I replace the Flash with a simple JPG image, it displays correctly - so this is related to the #¤%@ SWF / IE8 combo.
What are you guys using for centering your sites?
    Some observations
    Without doctype declared:
Works in Firefox, and IE 7
IE 8 and IE 8 in compatibility mode crops 1 pixel from left side
    With HTML 4.1 Transitional doctype:
Is not vertically centered in IE 8 compatibility mode, IE 7 or Firefox
IE 8 in compatibility crops 1 pixel from left side
    With XHTML 1.0 Transitional doctype:
    Works in IE 8
Is not vertically centered in IE 8 compatibility mode, IE 7 or Firefox
    The code causing the problem
(doctypes are left in commented out - just to show which ones I've tested with)

Well, I found MY problem. It was a center tag. I had <center></center> around my Flash movie. So I put it in a table and now it's works. I looked over your code, but I don't see a center tag so maybe this won't help you. You did help me to fix mine so if I can help in any way let me know.
Update: I noticed that you centered your data cell, maybe you could try centering the whole table.

  • Emails will not send when out of UK

I have two 'normal' email accounts (BT and another provider) and a mobile me account, all set up on my iP3G, and my incoming and outgoing emails seem to work pretty well in the UK, either via WiFi connection or otherwise (3G, Edge etc).
BUT when I travel to Europe (France, Belgium so far) my emails just will not send, whether connected by WiFi or via the local phone carrier. I can receive emails OK, but they won't go out. I have tried the trick of including the outgoing server of my UK carrier (O2) as an additional server for each of the accounts, and putting all the outgoing server details on all the accounts as fallbacks, but still no joy.
I've tried referring to Apple website's UK email server details page, but this seems to have contradictions in it, with server details differing from those given by O2 and BT. Who is right?
This is seriously limiting my 3G's usefulness as a business device, as I'm still effectively isolated when abroad. Is there something like port numbers that I need to change, or have I missed something simple (which I'm quite happy to accept!!)?
    Cheers
    CB

One account is Yahoo! and you are not allowed to change the config - Apple has it all set up for you (host name not shown just text alias "Yahoo! SMTP Server" though it is something like smtp.yahoo.com or mail.smtp.yahoo.com - I could check this online through Yahoo! mail help but I wouldn't rule out Apple having a separate server with Yahoo!). For what it's worth SSL is OFF, Authentication; Password, and Server Port = 0.
The other account is my personal business exchange account (Fasthost.com). Hostname is exchange.xxx.co.uk, and SSL is ON (Fasthost requires it). I do not see anywhere I could set Authentication password or Server Port. I also have Domain set as EXCHANGE. Presumably because it is EXCHANGE and not SMTP?
It seems that I have a separate config because I am using Exchange. You may be on to something - could be in your mail setup.

    Hi Dave,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. If you keep using your email address after cancelling the broadband, it'll stay active for up to 90 days without usage, then you'll receive a marketing email advising you should sign up to premium mail if you wish to keep the address. It will contain a link which you can use to switch the account over. Your sub-accounts will be switched over with the primary address. Hope that helps.

The older computer has os x version 10.4.11, it has ichat on it. I was wondering if ichat was not compatible with imessages on the newer devices, can someone tell me, thanks.

    Hi,
iChat Is compatible with the Messages App on Mountain Lion and Above.
BUT... Only in the accounts it already has.
That is to say that if you have iChat 5 in Snow Leopard you have the ability to have AIM and Jabber Accounts (which include GoogleTalk and Facebook Chat IDs).
If you have iChat 6 in Lion then you also have the Yahoo option.
All have the LAN based Bonjour account.
If people with Messages are only using the iMessages accounts  then iChat cannot join these conversations.
As you mention iPads and other iOS devices I presume you mean this option which will not work for you.

Please help. (I also cant play videos in my browsers)

  • Messages from Mac to Mac?

How do I establish contact with a fellow Mac user through Messages, Version 8.0 (4218)?   Both of us use only Macs, not an iDevice.   I have my correspondent's email address, but Messages will not send to that address.  I have established contact through Messages to two users of the iOS, but not yet with any Mac users.  Can it be done?

    Hi Again,
Just to be clear it does not have to be an iCloud linked Apple ID.
It just has to be a valid Apple ID.
Messages is built on the iChat Engine.
iChat started life as an AIM client app that did text only.
In Version 2 it became AV capable.
iChat 3 brought us Jabber accounts
iChat 4 brought us four way Video chats and iChat Theatre.
iChat 6 added the text Only Yahoo option
Messages in Mountain Lion (version 7) changed the interface away from the Buddy List to the main windows and it's tabbed chats (you can elect to display the Buddy lists)
It also add the iMessages account.
Messages 8 loses iChat Theatre (RIP)
Google advertises you can add Facebook Buddies and Facebook do the reverse.
This is no big deal as you can add Jabber Buddies to any Jabber list in any Jabber capable app.
What these two service do seem to list is the ability to add AIM buddies to the lists.
AIM also say you can add Facebook and Google Buddies.
However it is less clear if this works away from a web Login to each of these servers.
With other Jabber servers you sometimes get access to what are called Transports or Gateways that enable the adding of buddies from different services to a Jabber Buddy List
A set of instructions can be found here  (where it says Jabber app it means a Jabber specific one like Psi that can do the Servie Discovery for the transport).
Actually this one is with pics from Psi
I have based some of this based on the .org part of the ID that is behind the blanked out bit in your picture.
