No text showing in Pages '09

The text is there apparently - but I can't see it. No matter what I try, it does not show any text in the document. It's like, the same colour as the background - even though I set it to a dark colour, what ever.
I just installed this brand new - and it doesn't work already?
How can I fix it ?

OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion and, in addition, same behaviour on OSX 10.9 Mavericks Pre Release on antoher machine.
Clean installs. Virtually nothing else installed. on either.
Pages, '09. v4.3. Downloaded fresh today from the App Store and installed.
Right out of the box. It doesn't work. Only a few bucks, and millions don't have a problem I know. But no less frustrating, as I was hoping to use it for iBook development.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

I cant copy/paste from an article to my web site, get a Mozilla Rich Text Editing demo page will not work.HELP

Tried to copy/paste from an article to my web site and got a "cannot copy /paste " warning and was directed to a security perferences site that said that Mozilla Rich Text Editing demo page will not work.
Tried to find my Firefox profile directory using the start menu and was directed to hit enter to go to web. Feel like i am getting run around.

Let's start with something very basic, and that is, you do not need to use the paste button on most websites. The button just reads what is on your clipboard and sticks it into the form. You can do that yourself using Ctrl+v or right-click>Paste.
For your security, I suggest using those standard Windows keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+x cut, Ctrl+c copy, Ctrl+v paste) or the context menu.
Occasionally you will find a paste button that runs a clean-up script or otherwise does something useful. That is where the (admittedly a bit complicated) instructions come in handy.
To open your active profile folder, you can use:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Which help article are you using for the modifications?
Finally, please be cautious in opening up your clipboard to sites. You may have stuff you copied from other pages or other programs that you do not want to share with most sites.

Master Text Frame for Page Heading

Hello, I am new to indesign and using CS4. Sorry if this is a newbie question.
I am creating a pdf digital presentation and laying it out. I want to create a consistent header on each page in the top left corner and ensure it is in the exact same location on each page. I also want to make sure the text size, font, and color is consistent on each page. Most importantly, if I need to change anything, lets say a font, I want to only do it in one place and not do it on all 20 pages in my document.
My understanding is to add a text frame to the master page. However, how do I edit the text on each page and not have it show on my cover page which is page 1 of my document?

Create a text frame on the master page (make it wide enough and deep enough for the longest heading)
Insert some generic text like "Heading"
Give it a paragraph style
Adjust the paragraph style to your liking
Go to each page you want to change, and CTRL SHIFT (cmd shift on mac) and double click the "Heading"
Change the text to what you want it to look like.
To alter the text colour/font etc. for all of them - adjust the paragraph style
To edit the text style for each heading so they look different in terms of colour etc. - just change the Character Colour via the swatches.
if you do this, then any changes to the Paragraph style should follow through on all pages - except where you've perhaps changed the character colour (or any other hand-adjusted changes to the text.
Also - if you move the Text Frame on the master page they should all move on the corresponding pages, provided you haven't moved them by hand on the actual pages.

How do I remove text boxes from Pages

I have an awful time with Pages on my lap top. I am used to Appleworks 6.2 on my older desktop (PowerMac G4 / OS 10.4.11). If I specify a US letter page I get that in Appleworks, it is then 8.1/2" x 11", without running into pre-existing formats or other similar distractions. I can immediately type a neat business letter.
Not with Pages. On my MacBookAir, with Pages 4.3 and OS 10.8.4, I can type alright, but when I want to print what I typed, only a small part of what I typed shows up in in Print Preview of my typed page. After a bit of backtracking, I notice a blue-lined rectangle on my typed page containing the portion of my typing that appeared in that Print Preview. It is apparently a self-formed "text box", that was not a part of my blank template page and was not inserted by me while or just before I typed.
I did not find any way to delete the edges of that text box. The "delete" option under the pull down edit menu is blanked out. If I click on the "Text box " symbol in the menu bar it does not let me switch off the text box, but instead gives me another text box inside the first one! I suppose this is to allow user to print only a single keyboard stroke of the entire letter. The "Inspector" seems to have no options to set text boxes.
Pages "Help" Menu has nothing of how to delete a text box, or how to prevent it in the first place from screwing up what you have typed in such manner that it becomes unprintable.
Similarly a small rectangular box formed on both the top and the bottom of each page (which could be a space reserved for a header or footer), but again I do not use these on my business letters, and they appear self-formed by Pages, and I would like to know how to prevent them, or delete them.
In other words I like to get a blank page to start with, which will only set up and type what "I, THE USER" enter on my keyboard.
Can anybody tell me how to this with Pages?
(PS. I can do it with even with Thunderbird !)

1. Open a blank Word Processing template (they are listed in the Template Chooser sidebar), you have opened a Layout template that requires Textboxes for you to type into.
2. To select a Textbox hold down the command key and click on its edge or lassoo it, then hit delete.
3. If you don't want Headers or Footers, uncheck them in the Document Inspector
4. Download the Pages09_UserGUide.pdf from under the Help menu and familiarise yourself with Pages' basics. Also look around your Menus and Inspectors which are laid out logically from left to right from broad to details.
I suggest you click inside your textbox first go command a and copy the contents before you delete it and then paste that into a new Word Processing template.

Will not show web page on windows high contrast

Hi,
Am running Windows 7 64bit
my problem is as follows.
I normally run Windows in high contrast mode and would prefer all web sites to be on the dark side.
Occasionally I need to be able to see a web page as its designers intended it to be.
So I want to have the text white and background black and then the ability to toggle between that and the web page's own colour scheme.
Thought I'd found exactly what I needed in the add-on "Toggle Document Colors 1.0"
Am presuming it toggles the status of the "Allow pages to choose their own colours..." tick box.
This setting seems to get lost when FF closes. Even if I set the tick box myself and then close FF it is gone when I reopen FF.
If the box is ticked and a page refreshed it still does not show web page colours ?
Without any addons at all after a reset and only using the colours dialog I cannot get it to behave.
If you start in Windows white mode (normal) things are better even after FF close. Change to Windows black mode (high contrast) things start off ok then after you close FF it will not work
If there is a solution I would love to know it.
Will settle for a workaround.
Considered using old version of FF, but this is not really a good idea.
Really don't want to go back to IE

iTunes does not yet support Windows 8, so there may not be a fix until such time as Apple releases a version of iTunes that does support 8. You can search this forum for "windows 8", though, and perhaps you'll find a suggestion in one of the other threads on the issue.

How to show active page in Spry Menu Bar using images

Hi,
I have already read this answer "how to show active page in spry menu bar" but I am using images, not text. I have mouse-over and mouse-out working in the Spry Menu Bar using image.png and image-over.png, but I cant' figure out how to get the image-over.png to appear on the active page since the spry menu bar is locked on the individual pages. (I tried to put it in an editable comment, but spry wouldn't go for it. :-)
Any ideas. Here is the code:

How to make mouseover effect text show image in popup window or tooltip?

I am trying to display a popup image in a new window when the mouse moves over some text. Or perhaps, the image could display in a tooltip when the mouse moves over some text.
However, I have achieved the functionality of an image appearing above the text when the mouse moves over some text. This is how I did this:
I put this code into the Page HTML Header:

2. where should the {div} content be placed in APEX, if not in the Title field?
Please note that I used '{' & '}' instead of '<' & '>' just so the div would display in this post.

508- Document Properties - Disabled ..."All of the text on this page lacks a language specification"

When i try to do 508 check. I got the following error message
"All of the text on this page lacks a language specification'
I checked "FILE=>Document Properties". All "Document Properties" are disabled.
We are using Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 to create this dynamic for and save it as static PDF file.
Still, we have same issue. I am not sure, how to change or setup the language in adobe livecycle designer es2.

Ah, I don't know that. "Tables" is a collection, not a simple array, and some careless experimentation shows that you cannot simply use .concat to paste them together.
I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of workarounds for a situation like this. Perhaps it's time to read "[CS3][JS] everyItem() and getElements()" -- i.e. Marc Autret's blog posts about this, at the end of that thread.
That is, if you stick to using everyItem()! Perhaps it's easier to build an array "the old fashioned way". This code is based on my earlier assumption you had textframes-in-textframes, but you can rewrite it to cater for groups as well:

Conditional text showing as white space w/ condition indicators On

We are using condition indicators with both a color
and an overline, underline, strikethrough, etc. When
we have the condition indcators on, and do Show All,
some text shows up as white space until we change
the indicators. Unfortunately, the behavior is not
consistent in that when I change an Overline to As Is
with some colors (like the standard Red or Blue),
the text remains whtte. It's only if I alaso change
the color to one of the custom colors we are using
for headings that we can actually see the text.
A similar disappearance is happening with cross
references that use a charaacter tag Hyperlink
with standard Blue as the color (no underline) in
the cross ref format. The text tagged with Hyperlink
disappears while black text (Default para font) shows
up. If we change the cross Ref format to use a different
character tag, it shows up.
Track changges is Off. It has neer been turned on.
Bug or feature?

Sodal, I tried and I got a "Missing arguments for command '\position'."
I had used a field on bottom of page 1 before but I got a "field not found on subform CONT" error.

When accessing some pages, it starts to download .part file and not showing the page

Show Cover Page during Two-Up - Hotkey or Button?

Hi,
I find myself toggling this setting (in Acrobat Pro 8.1) on and off all the time: Menu "View", "Page Display", "Show Cover Page during Two-Up".
That's because I often read PDF editions of magazines where the full-page ads have been left out, thus the order of odd/even pages changes all the time while browsing. But there are graphics, tables and text boxes spanning two opposite pages, so the adjustment is indispensable...
Clicking through to a nested submenu item can get so tedious over time!
So, here are my questions:
Is there a hidden keyboard shortcut for this function?
Or is there a way to add a user defined button to a toolbar?
Or macros? Some other trick to make life easier? :)
If not, does Adobe accept enhancement suggestions and where?

Is there a way to do this from Acrobat Reader within a browser window? I often find myself having to save a PDF to my desktop only to open it in the standalone version of Acrobat because I don't have any access to the View menu while in Adobe Reader within a browser.

Importing Text with continuous pages

I am new to In Design.
I have tried every word I could think of in the help menus to find this:
I don't really get how to add pages in an imported text doc.
Or to have automatically added pages in any doc, for that matter.
I imported a WORD text doc and it comes as a text contained somehow in the cursor.
I click with the cursor inside a new doc and the first page of the text shows.
But I can't for the life of me find how to add the rest of the text of the doc in further pages. I know the text is there in the cursor.
Can someone either explain or point me at the explanation for auto-adding pages in a text doc as needed, like a Word processor would do?
And how to get the rest of this imported doc to show up as text in added pages? Nice would be to be able to import a text and have it show up immediately in as many pages as are needed to contain it.

I'm still learning too (CS3).
Are you using "Place" command? What happens if you hold shift key when you import?
I found in the Help under "Flow text manually or automatically". I got to that from "Threaded Text".
Maybe someone more knowledgeable can add to this.

Putting Moving Instruction text to the page footer can be accomplished by using RawTextbean. In that u can use html code which makes the text move.

I am building a website and viewing in Firefox no bold text showing OK in Explorer

I am building a new PHP web site and when I view it in Firefox none of the bold text shows as bold, it works in Explorer. I have the latest version of Firefox and i am running windows 7. I have read several similar problems on the net but they are two or more years old.
