No Thumbnail Available

Was looking forward the new DVR features including the thumbnail views of recorded shows.  I've noticed however that every time I try to use the thumbnails it says the no thumbnails are available.  This so far is true for all of the shows that I have recorded.  Is there something that I have to do to activate the thumbnails?
Thanks
Steve G

Nope. Doesn't seem to work for most people. Hopefully gets fixed soon.

  • Are full res. thumbnails available from the camera/flash card?

Just wondered, as that would be a useful extension when not wishing to download obvious rejects.

It depends on the RAW file, some have excellent previews (full res! and others at the same time), some only have tiny ones (160x120, which might sound useful, but really is pitiful).
It would in fact be faster to get the previews, because they're (AFAIK) compressed as JPEGs, not RAW. Far easier to render, and far smaller because of the compression.
The RAW file format can cause problems though - some of them have the index-dictionary right at the end of the file, so you have to hope you can do a 'seek' to the end of the file on the card - I have no idea if OSX can do this on a CF card filesystem - otherwise you'd have to read the whole thing in anyway, which would make it pretty useless

  • How to keep thumbnail from backup?

    Hi everyone!
I've been looking all over, but I can't find (either in iPhoto or another program) a way to keep thumbnail for backuped iPhoto library on CD.
Is there a program that would keep the backuped library's thumbnails available to iPhoto (with the CD name references of course), so I can track my ever growing library on CD/DVD?
    Cheers!
    Dual G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Yes there are a couple One program, iView Media or iView MediaPro that can catalog image files and then have the thumbnail files available even if the files are offline. Using that program don't fall into the trap that so many others have and that is not giving each CD/DVD disk a unique title. If you don't then you'll never know which "Untitled CD" has which photos. You've got to give each a unique, identifiable title.
Another application, QPict can do the same as iView although not as powerfully but it works, letting you see thumbnail images of files that are on offline media, i.e. CD or DVD disks. It's pretty basic but will do the job. It can even catalog an iPhoto library or iPhoto formatted disk.

  • Thumbnail in Datasheet view

I created an Asset Library and have several pictures posted in the library.
I have then created a site column to lookup the picture title.
I have a list that uses the site column to lookup the name of the picture and add it to the list.
I am wondering how I can have a thumbnail view of the picture in the standard view and the datasheet view.
It would also be great to have the thumbnail available when exporting to Excel.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Joshua Lance

    Hi Joshua,
I understand that you want to export to excel with thumbnail of the images in asserts library.
As SharePoint stores the URL for the images in the columns, so when we export the view to excel, all the thumbnail fields will display the URLs of the images in Excel.
So if you want to view the URLs as images in Excel, then you can get the URL to de displayed as images by using code:

  • Lr5.3 - No thumbnails previews when importing DNG's from Pentax K-3

    Hi all,
It worked when I first updated Lr to latest version (5,3) but for some reason it's not showing thumbnails anymore when importing pictures from SDCard.
I tried re installing with no success.
I dont know where to look for, I am under MAC OS Lion - 10.7 -
    Best wishes for Christmas,
    DimC

    Suzanne,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
It doesnt show up in the import dialog screen, that's my issue exactly.
When I click on import, the import screen opens and I dont see any thumbnails for the pictures, only the generic DNG thumbnail.
When i import pics from either my K-5 or K20D there is the thumbnails available and I can then choose which pics to import.
It's not about thumbnails when the pictures are imported and availble in the library but to answer your question, the images on my SDCard are on the DCIM folder, same as when it was working fine.

EDIT : I did a mistake by clicking on "CORRECT" for Suzanne's post, my bad.

  • Is there a way? Some iPhone/iPhoto questions

to order the photos so that the latest photos in the past 12 mos are displayed?
The default seems to be oldest first, making it a chore to see recent photos. I have about 4600 photos on there and it's a lot of trouble to see the recent ones.
Also, imports from iPhone to iPhoto sometimes imports dupes even though Do Not Import has been selected. Is there anyway to eliminate these without individually selecting them and deleting?
A sips query could be use to determine dupes, but that would be outside of iPhoto and might screw up the indexing scheme.
Last item: earlier iPhoto created thumbnails that were indexed with and displayed with the full scale images. How can these be easily deleted?
    Any ides greatly appreciated.

I don't believe this can be changed with the iPhone but you don't make use of Albums with iPhoto transferring all or select Albums to the iPhone?
All album photos will be available in the main iPhoto Library with the iPhone - just as with iPhoto but you can select an album and view photos in that album only - it will still be oldest first but makes viewing select photos only with the iPhone easier along with the ability to sort through or view all photos available in all albums at the same time by selecting the Photo Library.

Are you deleting photos taken by the iPhone after being imported into iPhoto? I always delete all photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll after the iPhoto import process and any of these photos I want available on the iPhone, I create a new iPhoto album or place select photos into an existing album, etc. and then these photos are transferred back to my iPhone via the sync process.

Not sure about this one - are you using iLife 08 and if so, are the same thumbnails available/shown now?

  • Using Prelude as simple DAM

    Hi,
I wanted to check if it is possible to use Prelude as a simple Digital Asset Management system.
We keep all of our older raw footage on offline hard drives (mostly red carpet interviews). I am looking for a simple solution where I can import basic file infos into a database, add some metadata to it (which event location, names of people in video, which hard disc, ...).
I understand from the previous post that Prelude only searches the currently open project, but does that mean that all assets have to be on-line as well? Or can I simply add all footage to the same project (which I would only use to search for files) and then search for, lets say, a name, and Prelude lists all footage where the meta-data includes this name and I know which harddisc to pull and find the file on?
I have researched several specialized DAM solutions, but most are optimized for images and do not support video well. That ones that are out there for video assume that you need your content accessible 24/7 and are optimized for that. So maybe Prelude would offer a work-around?
    Thank you!

    Michael,
Thank you for addressing our questions.   Due to my internal purchasing
process, I still haven't received my copy of Prelude, but I'll try to
answer your queries as best I can.
When you think about a DAM as part of Prelude I'm curious to understand
what key features you'd like to see there. For example, if Prelude were to
simply remember every asset and all associated metadata for each asset
into a database and make is searchable, is that sufficient?    Yes and no.
Yes, if this would help to reduce load time.  No, if it means not seeing
the clips.  We need to see the clips because, for us, such a database
could easily reach tens-of-thousands of clips and we can't remember them
all.  I work in government, where we have multiple producers creating
assets, and are required to keep media because they are considered public
    documents.
The speed issue might be helped if you could select when to turn on clip
loading or viewing.  I would think that loading metadata would be faster
than loading media, so what if you could tell the system to load all the
metadata from a library before doing a basic search on it.  Then, based on
the clips that are selected, switch to view mode for just those clips in
order to refine the search.  The feature should be switchable, because
when loading media into the system for the first time, you might want to
start by viewing clips and metadata.
An additional feature I would like to see is for Prelude and Premiere to
work together in the opposite direction from what you addressed in your
email.  For example, if you could add notes or markers in Premiere that
would automatically update the metadata of the original clip.  Or, perhaps
Prelude could track when clips are used by automatically adding a metadata
field to the original clip that included date and the project name where
it was used.  The more automation here, the better.
Also, since we are generating file based masters of our completed
programs, it would be nice for Media Encoder and Prelude to interact so
that we can add appropriate metadata and track which masters are stored on
    the server.
Would you need to share this database with others?  Yes, internally.
What would you expect when your media is archived or moved offline -
should Prelude know about that somehow?   Yes, we would need to track the
location.  It would also be helpful to have a low-res thumbnail available
    for offline clips.
Would you like to have archival/backup features as part of Prelude that
update the DAM properties as well (maybe with labels for whatever drive or
LTO you've put your media on)?   YES!  This approach would be a nice
solution to the previous question.  Also, Don't forget off-loading media
to blue-ray.  There are very robust devices which are network enabled and
can generate blue-ray disks. For example, the Rimage products can create
data, or playable disks with printed labels for either archive or finished
products.  Here is another point where connectivity could be applied if a
program was being sent to Encore.
What other features would you consider critical to your workflows?   The
items we feel are most critical are viewable clips, and searchable
    metadata.
It would be nice if Prelude could search a "Master Project" and send
selected files to another project, so that you could return to the "Master
Project" and do additional searches.  In addition, the ability to append
    projects might be useful.
Also, for a "Master Project," it might be smart to be able to designate it
as "write only" from the start, in order to protect it against accidental
erasure.  If you do that, please include an auto spell check prior to
    saving any individual entry.
Any features feel like 'must haves' related to cloud workflows?  No, I
think of the cloud as another archival or backup location, perhaps because
we do not use it.  Our IT manager considers it too expensive at this time.
If there is functionality that I am unaware of, I'd be interested in
    learning what it is.
Feel free to ask additional questions.  Also, if you are willing I may
send some to you when I start working with the program.
    Thanks,

  • Images do not show a Thumbnailwhen being imported?

Whilst importing NEF images from a Nikon D300 the images there is no preview thumbnail available in the "import" panel, just a "dotted outline" with no image.
After importation all seems OK Am I missing something?

All I know is that I have had the same problem with my D200 for ages. I found that changing the USB mode from PTP to Mass Storage brings the import thumbnails back. But it also introduces other problems, such as Auto-rotate not working.
    Andy.

  • BLOG WEBSITE IN IWEB

I created an ARTIST page by using the ENTRY page -- that has thumbnails (artwork) and an artist statement -- the artist statement continues on another page that opens to more artwork and the complete artist statement. When I add more than 5 thumbnails it seems to drop the 6th one onto an ARCHIVE page that does not show thumbnails. What can I do to keep posting the art thumbnails?

Also, if you adjust that indicator all the way over, it will always show ALL of your entries.
I've got a variation on this theme where I wanted to only show the most recent 5 entries on my main page, but have all the thumbnails available in a "visual archive".

  • Why can't I see my photos

My wife has photos and I can view/edit some of them but not all of them....thumbnails available but the actual file is not.

    What folders are they in?
In Finder do a Get Info on them, see what rights you have... & if you can add your rights by unlocking the lock.

  • Question about converting my RAW files to DNG

I've shot with Nikon, Olympus, and Panasonic so I'm familiar with all their proprietary RAW formats that each uses. I'd like to convert all my RAW files to DNG and then use that on import into LR going forward. I noticed that the DNG files from the Panasonic or Olympus images don't display a thumbnail in my finder folders (Mac OS X) so I tried some experiments.
I used the "convert to DNG" function in LR for some RAW files from each of the 3 cameras. Only the images taken with the Nikon D5300 show a thumbnail image in my finder folder. The Oly and Panny shots only display the DNG icon. Next I used the "export to DNG" function thinking that might make the thumbnail available but it was just the same. I would like to be able to see the images in my finder folders and also be able to open them to view in "preview" but only the Nikon converted DNGs will open in preview and not the Panny or Oly DNGs. Am I doing something wrong in the preferences? I've attached a screen shot of my preferences settings for DNG in LR and the thumbs that I'm seeing in my finder folders.
These are the settings I have set in preferences in LR
This is my Nikon NEF image converted to DNG    and my Panasonic RAW image converted to DNG (same thing happens with Olympus ORF files)

I probably missed this detail in what you’ve posted, but do you see the thumbnails of the three cameras’ raw files in Finder if you don’t convert to DNG?
What has happened in the past is that the Apple raw interpreter doesn’t read thumbnails of DNGs it doesn’t like, where at least one thing it didn’t used to like was embedded lens corrections for mirrorless cameras.  Are the Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless—meaning there is no optical viewfinder and everything is seen on an LCD screen or perhaps an electronic view finder?  If so the reason these are different is that the camera is doing the lens distortion corrections automatically and this information is stored in the raw files and in the DNGs but Apple doesn’t know how to use these embedded lens corrections or doesn’t know how to read the newer DNG spec that does allow for this information to be embedded in the DNG, at least.
Apple could just extract the embedded jpg preview and ignore the other parts of the file it doesn’t understand, but it apparently doesn’t do this.
What I’m not sure about is if the Apple raw interpreter still has this problem or if you’re on an older system without the latest updates for camera raw decoding by Apple.

  • Is there anyway of recovering lost footage?

I have a project on imovie that still has the thumbnails available to view but there is a yellow exclamation mark in the corner of each one and I'm unable to play, export or do anything with the footage? I think that maybe the back-up files have been deleted or something? I was just wondering if there is anyway of recovering this as the original is no longer available?

Yes we did a back up, but it's a new computer and we can't find it anywhere on it.  We had to "authorize" it through itunes, but still nothing.  Thanks for the help

  • Iphoto slow problem - photos are organised in folders not film rolls

I'm suffering from the iphoto slow problem and have been trying to find a way to stop iphoto from loading all the photos every time.
My photos are arranged in folders, so I don't seem to have the option to stop the photos being loaded by film roll.
Does anyone have any other ideas ?

I'm not sure what that means. Whether you have albums or not, iPhoto still considers a single import batch as a roll. If the rolls are not collapsed, then everytime you launch iPhoto, it assumes you want to be able to see your entire library, and it goes about the job of making all the thumbnails available.

  • "view content preview in thumbnails" option is not available in view settings for "finder" for one user

"view content preview in thumbnails" option is not available in view settings for "finder" for one user

I hope this discussion can be revived. I have the same problem. There seem to be quite a few Japanese sites that don't bother specifying their encoding. Perhaps they are older and from a time when it was not necessary to adhere to standards. Examples: http://www1.plala.or.jp/CUE/cave_yozawa.html, http://chigaku.web.fc2.com/saitama/sanchi/youzawa/youzawa.html. Happy to upload screenshots, but how?
Is there a way to tell Safari what encoding to use if the web page fails to do that?

  • File preview in Finder not available, only thumbnails. How to fix?

When selecting a file and clicking the space bar, I used to be able to get a preview of the file on the screen that allowed me to scroll through the file (I guess this uses a rendering engine of the application that supports the file format, e.g. MS Powerpoint or Word, so this is not an issue related to the Preview app). This is not available any more. When selecting a file in Finder in Mavericks and then hitting the space bar I only get a thumbnail of the file displayed, usually the first page of the file if it is a document. The preview facility as it was before is extremely useful.

I never knew of this feature with the space bar before. But I just tried it and it does open the selected document in a little preview window. Is this what you want to see?
When I pressed the space bar on this file, this window opened and I was able to scroll through the 3 or 4 pages worth. As you can see I have the option to open it in MS Word if I want to.
This is the same window that opens up when you click on "Quick Look". I don't recall if "Quick Look" is in the menu bar of the Finder Window by default. But if it's not, just right click on the menu bar of the Finder Window and add it to where ever you want it.
Also, see where it says View and gives me 4 options? I use the 3rd option as it gives me a smaller preview of the selected file.
    Hope this helps.
