No thumbnails after burning photo's

Dealing with a very strange issue.  A customer is running a new MBP 10.6.8 ilife 11 full updated.  She burns a set of photo's which burn fine but when she tries to view them the thumbnails are missing.  The strange thing is that when you double click on the missing thumbnail the main picture will appear.  So I took the iphoto library to another machine and again burn a set of pictures.  Took that burn to a totally different machine (full 10.6.8 ilife 11) and still the same issue no thumbnails.  I downloaded a program call iphoto library manager and went about rebuilding the customers library file.  That did not help.  I decided to try buring pictures from my workstation machine and after the burn tried to read them on the customers machine and again the thumbnails are missing but the main pictures are there.
I proceeded to backup the customers machine, wipe and reinstall OS.  Used data migrate to migrate of the data and ran software updates.  Burned another dvd and again the same issue.  I took one of the burned DVD's and tried it on a Mac Mini (10.6.8 iLife 11) and long behold the thumbnails are all there.
At this point I have no idea what is going on.  If anyone else has had this issue before and found a way to fix it please let me know.
Thanks

This is a bug in iPhoto 11 that seems to only occur when burning a disk of photos. Hopefully another contributor will have info about any fix.

  • After burning photos to DVD Keywords are lost or mixed up

    Hello,
I burned many a photo to DVD last night and today I checked the DVD only to find most of the Keywords I assigned were now non existent except for a large group that should have read "Self Portraits" but now reads "House".
are my keywords gone and scrambled?

    Hi Warriorant,
this is a current bug. Hopefully iPhoto 6 will fix this problem.
Are the keywords in the library that iPhoto opens still correct?

  • How do I finalize a DVD after burning photos from Aperture??

I have made a slideshow on Aperture and exported it to my desktop. I have burned a DVD-R but there is one problem...I need to finalize it. How do I do this to be able to play on my DVD player?

Well the .mov file was on the desktop, and I went to finder/new finder window/ and made a new folder. Put the DVD-R in the recorder and clicked "burn". The .mov file burned successfully to the disc but cannot be played back on an external device.
What is the external device you are trying to play the DVD in? Just burning a .mov file to a DVD doesn't create DVD that is playable in most DVD players.
If you are trying to create a DVD that can play in a DVD player take a look at iDVD.

  • I have finally figured out how to export an iphoto album so that I can maintain the proper order of the photos after burning the file. How do I keep each individual photo title and description after exporting and burning?

I have finally figured out how to export an iphoto album so that I can maintain the proper order of the photos after burning the file. How do I keep each individual photo title and description after exporting and burning?  Presently after exporting and burning each photo is identified by the file name rather than each individual title description.

File name and Title are not the same thing.
Filename is attached to the Jpeg file in the Finder.
Title is attached to the photo within the Jpeg file - as is the description. These are written to the Exif and IPTC metadata on export.
So: File -> Export. Kind: Jpeg or Tiff and Check the box at 'Title and Keywords'. This will write the Title, keywords and descriptions (though not explicitly stated) to the metadata. This can then be viewed in any app that understand this material.
You can choose, if you wish, to also use the Title as a Filename - that's an option at File Name

  • When copying pic from iPhoto 09 to a file, to burn a CD, after 35 photos it stops copying and I get "Unable to create/users/dividrublesr/ documents/I don't know what is going on.

When copying pic from iPhoto 09 to a file, to burn a CD, after 35 photos it stops copying and I get "Unable to create/users/dividrublesr/ documents/I don't know what is going on. Forgive me for any mistakes, I am a first timer.

Given that the file is selected then the next possibility is that you're exporting two files with the same name. When you do this the export breaks down as the second file would overwrite the first. Check the filenames.

  • I made a DVD with photo's and music. On my Powerbook G4 he plays perfect. But after burning the project on my LaCie d2 lightscribe and show the project on my TV than after 10 min. the music stops for a few seconds.

I made a DVD with photo's and music. On my Powerbook G4 he plays perfect. But after burning the project on my LaCie d2 lightscribe and showing the project on my TV than: after 10 min. the music stops for a few seconds. On the screen of the DVD-player I can see that after the word 'play' the clock starts again with counting the time. I tried everything: * burning slow. * all programs stopped, except iDVD. * all other apparature uncoupled. Is this a problem of my iDVD-program or my LaCie burner?

mishmumken is correct about the 99 slides.  There's an 99 chapter limit in each slideshow for DVDs and each photo is considered a chapter.  iDVD gets around that by renaming slide 100 back to 1 and goes on.
The pause can be minimized (but not eliminated) by burning to disk at the slowest speed available: usually 4x or 2x.  Save the project to disk (File ➙ Save to Disk menu option) and play the disk image with DVD player to check out the transition at 99 and 198.  Then burn the disk image to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed possible.  Also use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Burning Photo's

    Hi All,
If I burn photo's from inside iPhoto with iPhoto's burn feature, will the entire library burn with it, thumbnails, data etc.? Will I be able to edit the photo's after they are brought back into iPhoto? I understand that I will have to re-burn the edited photo,s back to a CD to archive them.

    Robert
Yes using the Share -> Burn Command will do this.
Yes, but, obviously, the modified files will need to be reburned.

  • Can´t view photos in full screen after loading photos to dropbox? what to do?, can´t view photos in full screen after loading photos to dropbox? what to do?

after loading photos to dropbox i can´t view them in full screen in iphoto ... i can only view them small ... when i click on them this sign "!" appears... do you know how to fix this????

If you're loading photos to drop box why do you expect to see them in iPhoto?
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.

  • Pixelated images after burning

A friend of mine is using iDVD to create a slideshow of some photos. The photos look great, and after burning, when playing on either tv's or even other computers, no matter the screen size, all the images, as well as the text that pops up, is all pixelated. But on her computer, they look fine.
She is using RAW images, could this be the problem? She has tried burning for both Widescreen and Standard, with no fix.
I told her to use jpegs, haven't heard back if that worked or not, but thought I'd ask.
    Thanks!
    Jordan

You gave your friend excellent advice. Most Jpegs will work fine. If you wish to add RAW image files as well then I'd suggest doing so to the dvd-rom section of the dvd (and there is a preference you can select within iDvd that will automatically do this for you).

  • How do I save/burn photos with their intended orientation

When I upload photos they display with the proper orientation ie: landscape or portrait. When I burn photos or load them to a web site they all transfer in landscape format. I am using a canon program to upload and it is supposed to auto orient the images. Is the Mac by passing this? Is there a simple setting I need to change?
I am new to Mac and I find this very frustrating as my customers will not be happy having to look at hundreds of photographs sideways. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Photoguy99

You may have to use an image editor software for either singular or batch correction of the rotation, where you would 'save' or 'save as' to assure a corrected file reflecting this rotational change is permanently retained.
Some time ago, I refused to further use camera maker image editing software; perhaps as long ago as Jag 10.2. There were other options in OS 9.2.2 & Before, which worked wonderfully and still do.
For OS X minor edits, I've used a third-party freeware and the author has made several revisions available, I've found it helpful, yet have barely used only a small fraction of the tools I see built in.
    •ToyViewer for OS X: (freeware)
    http://homepage.mac.com/t_ogihara/software/OSX/toyv-eng.html
There are other image editors, to include the OS X's own Preview app; perhaps it may be adequate. In some older Preview versions, the rotation tool failed to function, so that enforced my idea of using ToyViewer. Retail image editors and upscale software offer more detailed control over images, or similar controls, at a price.
With the idea of minimalistic and realistic photography, I've never had a desire to photoshop anything... One could take a terrible 'image capture' and after hours at a workstation, create a masterpiece of fiction. My background is in film photography and natural outdoor environments.
The ability to do batch corrections, to say, rotate all images -90° dropped into a folder, could be done in several ways; some may include creating a script, or finding one another user has made, & apply it.
While I have a Lumix/Panasonic camera and a Nikon DSLR, I've not used either of the makers offered software to edit or manipulate images I've captured with these cameras; and prefer to attempt to most accurately or satisfactorily get the correct image at the 'time of exposure' which means I only rotate the incorrectly saved horizontals to a vertical format, with software after downloading. And no other edits.
With a long film-related photography background, nice vintage equipment and a small collection, I have doubts about digital in several capacities; however convenient and hazard-free digital imagery is in the home or office environment. The fun and alchemy is missing, and so can the honesty in the resulting product.
    Good luck and happy computing!

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • After burning a slide show, I get a skip in audio

After burning a slide show, II get a skip in the audio about every 5 min. of run time.  I imported the pictures from i photo and the music from an itunes play list. When I play the entire thing in preview it runs fine with no problems, but after burning to a dvd, I get a skip every 5 min.  I burned to hp DVD-R (16x) and Memorex DVD-R (16x).  Still the skip.  I have burned to Best preformance, High Quality and Professional Quality.  I have even slowed the burn time to 4x.  Still the skip.  I noticed the bar at the bottom of the screen always reads 5 min. for the audio duration and when it goes back to 0 is when it skips.   The run time when I put the cursor on the audio well reads the correct 3min:35sec.

SlideShow function in iDVD - is limited to 99 photos per show.
Creating the SlideShow in iMovie HD6 or FinalCut - doesn't limit this but offers 100% control over process (audio and transitions)
Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - will degrade picture quality as they only deliver every second line over to iDVD.
I never use "Share to iDVD" in any iMovie version.
    • iMovie up to HD6 - Just close it and import movie project from within iDVD
    • iMovie'08 to 11 - "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (not HD) will give as good quality as they can do

  • IPhoto images after burning a disc

I burned a part of last year's images to a disc but do not get the result I wished.
As seen in in the screenshot below, I selected two maps with albums. Map "Trips" (=n°4) contains 2 albums; the map "Friends" (=n°5) has 7 albums:
On the contrary after burning these 2 maps and 9 albums the disc displays only 'numbered' maps in consecutive colums:
What I expected and wished for were these maps to display the names of the selected maps/albums instead!
Column 4 should mention the maps original names "Trips" and "Friends", column 5 their corresponding albums (respectively 2 and 7), and column 6 their respective thumbnails.
How come and why those differences in data between my selection in the iPhoto Library and the ones on the burned disc? In any case I would like to understand the way a disc processes the selected images.
For sure it is highly impratical to have a disc processed and burned without the proper names identifiying the maps/albums. In any case iPhoto's own helpfiles are of no help on this issue.
As I am postponing the burning of other maps and albums I would truly appreciate any helpful reaction.
    Would 'Toast' resolve my problem?
    Thanks

    Thanks TD and OT.
As the problem in itself is solved now, I'd still like to know how that burning process came to handle the data of my pics the way as displayed on my previous screenshots, and on the new screenshot shown below, which is so different from what a normal iPhoto screen shows.
    Therefore still these questions:
1 What causes and is the technical meaning, of creating maps with numbers in a random ranking? As such they make no sense I understand. I mean: why not created as a series of consecutive numbers in sequence?
2 Why are "M(asters)", "P(reviews)" and "T(humbnails)" not identical, as their format varies? So, M and T contain 4 maps, and P contains 2, although all three relate to the same library? And also between M and T there are differences.
3 As far as I see, the first part of the figures in the sixth column is correctly related to the year of the images'   creation in 2012. What about the rest of these digit sequences? Theve have a sense, but what?
This is the new screenshot meant above:
Can you solve these? Thanks for reading (these dumb questions?).
    Sincerely.

  • Pause after 99 photos on a slideshow

I created a 335 photo slideshow, then burned a dvd. When I play the dvd on a standard dvd player, the music pauses for a second after each 99 photos. If I play it on a windows based pc, the slideshow stops after 99 photos. When I look at the details (on a windows based pc), it notes a "title" entry after each 99 photos, so I'm thinking it relates to the pauses (and stops) in the slideshow. What's the cure?

    I’m afraid there isn’t one. That’s a limit of DVD’s. At the 99 point there’s a change of chapter.
